Easily the most recognizable and iconic name in horror is the legendary Vincent Price. Last October, Scream Factory, the horror brand for Shout Factory brought out the Vincent Price Collection that brought six of his films together in one awesome collection. Each of the films sported numerous special features along with the hi-res transfers. We all know that is just a drop in the bucket to Price’s career and now Scream Factory is doing it again with the Vincent Price Collection III.
This amazing collection will feature the first ever Blu-ray presentation of 1961s Master of the World, 1962s Tower of London, 1963s Diary of a Madman, 1970s An Evening of Edgar Allen Poe and 1970s Cry of the Banshee. Each of these films sport a beautiful hi-def transfer making them look better than ever. These films are classics in the horror genre but for those that have sadly missed any of them need to understand it’s a different kind of horror. Some aspects of these make come off a bit silly, but they are designed to tell a story as opposed to just shock you and do so with an elegant style. These are the kinds of films that stand the test of time due to the brilliance of Price and the lost art form they represent. While there are some horror films trying to mimic these styles now, none will ever have the presence of the man himself. You cannot just review these films, you have to experience them as no words will ever to justice to the brilliance of Vincent Price. One of the coolest films included in this collection is that of An Evening of Edgar Allen Poe that features Price reciting four of Poe’s masterworks. Despite the simplistic nature of the feature and short run time it is a piece that brings two pieces of brilliance together in a way that will likely never be seen again. In addition to the films this set features a booklet that includes a variety.
This Blu-ray release of these films together alone is worth adding it to your collection, but each will feature a wide variety of special features including audio commentaries with producer/director Roger Corman, writer/producer/director Kenneth Johnson, new commentary with actor David Frankham, film historians, original trailers, archival materials as well as a 12-page collector’s book with rare photos. This is a classic horror fan’s dream and just like the previous two collection, those that order this collection will also receive an exclusive 18”x24” poster featuring the newly commissioned artwork while supplies last. Fans will not want to miss out on this awesome new collection so be sure to grab your copy of The Vincent Price Collection III available now on Blu-ray as well as the previous two collections still available from Shout Factory.
