VMware's Tom Corn's session at #RSAC. The Software Defined Data Center offers advances in agility and decreased time-to-value, but adopting an SDDC approach also fundamentally provides better security inside the data center. By extending the operational model of compute virtualization to the network, businesses not only achieve greater flexibility but also a much tighter, finer-grained way of securing their applications, data, and other workloads. This approach delivers on micro-segmentation, as well as an automated way of ensuring security policies are always tied to the workloads they are intended to protect. In this session, learn how network virtualization not only forms the underpinnings of an SDDC, but also provides a more secure platform for the data center overall.

Freedom of speech and the distribution of knowledge is the foundation of Wikipedia. Jimmy Wales predicts that the Internet will democratise developing countries by making the world 'flat,' opening markets, promoting cultural understanding and giving developing nations the resources they need to compete in the 21st century. With current total Internet usage of one billion people set to double in the next five to 10 years (with the majority of new users arising from developing nations), Wales asserts that the Internet will combat stereotypes, censorship, media control, and monopolies while simultaneously allowing citizens of developing nations to have a more prominent voice. As Wales states: ""It does not take a lot of technology to foster open dialog and debate. Even the simplest technologies like mailing lists, wikis, blogs can help a lot. What is needed mostly, I think, is more content in local languages, and support from people around the world to help others join in the global conversation.""

http://democracynow.org - Leading security and privacy researcher Bruce Schneier talks about about the golden age of surveillance and his new book, "Data and Goliath: The Hidden Battles to Collect Your Data and Control Your World." The book chronicles how governments and corporation have built an unprecedented surveillance state. While the leaks of Edward Snowden have shed light on the National Security Agency's surveillance practices, less attention has been paid to other forms of everyday surveillance — license plate readers, facial recognition software, GPS tracking, cellphone metadata and data mining

Bruce Schneier is an internationally-renowned Security Technologist and author.
Described by The Economist as a "security guru," he is best known as a refreshingly
candid and lucid security critic and commentator. When people want to know how
security really works, they turn to Schneier. His first bestseller, "Applied
Cryptography" explained how the arcane science of secret codes actually works,
and was described by Wired as "the book the National Security Agency wanted never
to be published." His book on computer and network security, "Secrets and Lies",
was called by Fortune a "jewel box of little surprises you can actually use." His
current book, "Beyond Fear" tackles the problems of security from the small to the
large: personal safety, crime, corporate security, national security.

Davi Ottenheimer, President, flyingpenguin, interviews Bruce Schneier on his latest book.
We don't demand a background check on the plumber who shows up to fix the leaky sink. We don't do a chemical analysis on food we eat. In the absence of personal relationships, we have no choice but to substitute confidence for trust, compliance for trustworthiness. This progression has enabled society to scale to unprecedented complexity, but has also permitted massive global failures. At the same time, too much cooperation is bad. Without some level of rule-breaking, innovation and social progress become impossible. Society stagnates. Bruce Schneier, world-renowned for his level-headed thinking on security and technology, tackles this complex subject head-on. Society can't function without trust, and yet must function even when people are untrustworthy.

America Again: Re-Becoming the Greatness We Never Weren't is more of a coffee-table book, with large color pictures, and chapter photos that require the use of included 3-D glasses. It falls somewhere between I Am America and the Daily Show faux-textbooks America (The Book) and Earth (The Book), which used that organizing principle to their advantage. The premise follows the many apocalyptic views of the past four years, claiming America has gone off the rails and completely lost its way, and that only this book offers the true path to restore America's greatness. Which was never really gone, because it's America.
The best idea America Again mocks is the one contained in its title. In particular, it skewers Newt Gingrich's 2011 book A Nation Like No Other, which claimed, "America's exceptional greatness is not based on that fact that we are the most powerful, most prosperous—and most generous—nation on earth. Rather, those things are the result of American Exceptionalism." That is one preposterously arrogant whopper, which America Again exploits as an illogical chicken/egg position. The subtle difference between a beneficial amount of pride and the unchecked belief in exceptionalism is ripe for mockery.
Stephen Colbert has been playing Stephen T. Colbert since 2005. In those seven years, he's built an impressive mythology to his character, a funhouse mirror held up to shame all other egomaniacal pundits for their hubris. But while the shtick is still reliably funny on television, it doesn't translate as well into print, because a book doesn't have television's immediacy. There's no Super PAC plotline, just a bunch of chapters that respond to issues a bit too late. Colbert and his staff are still extraordinarily funny, but in reaching for a middle-of-the-road coffee table humor book, America Again finds the limits of their comedic talent.

Stephen Colbert needs little introduction! Born on May 13, 1964, in Washington, D.C., he joined Chicago’s Second City comedy troupe. Together with comedians Amy Sedaris and Paul Dinello, they created and starred in both Exit 57 and Strangers with Candy. In 1997, Colbert began appearing in episodes of The Daily Show. In 2005, he was given his own spin-off show, The Colbert Report. He published I Am America (And So Can You!) in 2007. In 2014, it was announced that Colbert would replace David Letterman as host of CBS' Late Show. Stephen Colbert is not only a great comedian but a devout, proud Catholic who does not hide his religious beliefs and deep love of the Church.
In this rare, personal interview with Fr. Thomas Rosica, CSB, Stephen Colbert tells all.

The comedian was one of 16 people to participate in the UFW "Take Our Jobs" campaign, which was launched this summer as a challenge to U.S. citizens to replace immigrants in farm work. (He turned the experience into a segment for his show, Comedy Central's "Colbert Report," where he stars as a mock-conservative news anchor whose mission is to get to the "truthiness" of the news.)
Colbert said of the experience, "I have to say, and I do mean this sincerely, please don't make me do this again. It is really, really hard."
Colbert appeared amid a swarm of photographers, listened to behavioral directives from the committee's Chairwoman Zoe Longfren (who warned the audience that "if necessary, the Capitol police are here"), and brought the committee levels of media coverage that the committee hadn't seen "maybe since impeachment," as Longfren commented.

Stephen Tyrone Colbert (pron.: /koʊlˈbɛər/, né: /ˈkoʊlbərt/;[6] born May 13, 1964) is an American political satirist, writer, comedian, television host, and actor. He is the host of Comedy Central's The Colbert Report, a satirical news show in which Colbert portrays a caricatured version of conservative political pundits.
Colbert originally studied to be an actor, but became interested in improvisational theatre when he met famed Second City director Del Close while attending Northwestern University. He first performed professionally as an understudy for Steve Carell at Second City Chicago; among his troupe mates were comedians Paul Dinello and Amy Sedaris, with whom he developed the sketch comedy series Exit 57.
Colbert also wrote and performed on the short-lived Dana Carvey Show before collaborating with Sedaris and Dinello again on the cult television series Strangers with Candy. He gained considerable attention for his role on the latter as closeted gay history teacher Chuck Noblet. His work as a correspondent on Comedy Central's news-parody series The Daily Show first introduced him to a wide audience.
In 2005, he left The Daily Show with Jon Stewart to host a spin-off series, The Colbert Report. Following The Daily Show's news-parody concept, The Colbert Report is a parody of personality-driven political opinion shows such as The O'Reilly Factor. Since its debut, the series has established itself as one of Comedy Central's highest-rated series, earning Colbert three Emmy Award nominations and an invitation to perform as featured entertainer at the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner in 2006. Colbert was named one of Time's 100 most influential people in 2006 and 2012.[11][12] His book I Am America (And So Can You!) was No. 1 on The New York Times Best Seller list.
While at Northwestern, Colbert studied with the intent of becoming a dramatic actor; mostly he performed in experimental plays and was uninterested in comedy. He began performing improvisation while in college, both in the campus improv team No Fun Mud Piranhas[31] and at the Annoyance Theatre in Chicago as a part of Del Close's ImprovOlympic at a time when the project was focused on competitive, long form improvisation, rather than improvisational comedy. "I wasn't gonna do Second City", Colbert later recalled, "because those Annoyance people looked down on Second City because they thought it wasn't pure improv—there was a slightly snobby, mystical quality to the Annoyance people".[5] After Colbert graduated in 1986, however, he was in need of a job. A friend who was employed at Second City's box office offered him work answering phones and selling souvenirs.[25] Colbert accepted and discovered that Second City employees were entitled to take classes at their training center for free.[5] Despite his earlier aversion to the comedy group, he signed up for improvisation classes and enjoyed the experience greatly.
Shortly thereafter, he was hired to perform with Second City's touring company, initially as an understudy for Steve Carell. It was there he met Amy Sedaris and Paul Dinello, with whom he often collaborated later in his career. By their retelling, the three comedians did not get along at first—Dinello thought Colbert was uptight, pretentious and cold, while Colbert thought of Dinello as "an illiterate thug"[32]—but the trio became close friends while touring together, discovering that they shared a similar comic sensibility.[25]
When Sedaris and Dinello were offered the opportunity to create a television series for HBO Downtown Productions, Colbert left The Second City and relocated to New York in order to work with them on the sketch comedy show Exit 57.[25] The series debuted on Comedy Central in 1995 and aired through 1996. Although it lasted for only 12 episodes, the show received favorable reviews and was nominated for five CableACE Awards in 1995, in categories including best writing, performance, and comedy series.

Stephen Colbert answering questions on his startup called CloudFog.Stephen Colbert pitched his new startup @RSAC. I've got an idea how we can make it real, so I sent him the following message:
Dear Stephen, I'we got a business proposition for you. Today, you pitched in a new startup company called FogCloud @RSAC. I have a real idea for that which guaranteed to work at 100%. All I need is genuine fog, 4 Tesla coils, a custom modification of radio telescope, you in a special custom made suit, and 1 hour of your time. We put this image of you doing that on the box being a source of random noise so valuable in encryption business. If we do it for real, the data that we record with you will become the default huge encryption key for our custom made network Ethernet cards/ encryption controller. The customers will have a chance to change the default key, but your picture will make this $100 device sell really fast. If your graphical artist didn't get the idea, please ask him to contact me back at miagkikh@ieee.org and I'll send him a sketch or even write up with the spec for the entire data encryption device I have in mind. Sincerely Yours, Victor Myagkikh.
I can really file for provisional patent for this and along with Stephens agreement to participate in marketing of this product and putting his image on the box, we can sell it up to $1M I think and that Steven needs to do is to wear costume and pointy head.

There are different ways people choose to identify themselves (or not) on the Internet. Attribution can be very important, but pseudonyms and anonymity are also an established part of many cultures -- for good reason. Identification can be helpful or even necessary for certain services, while optional or unnecessary for others. Identifiers are not synonymous with identity and can be used in pseudonymous ways to effect reliable communication with parties whose identities may be unknown.
