Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) is a qualification obtained in assessing the security of computer systems, using penetration testing techniques. The code for the CEH exam is 312-50, the certification is in Version 8 as of late 2013.
Penetration tests are usually employed by an organization who trusts them to attempt to penetrate networks and/or computer systems for the purpose of finding and fixing computer security vulnerabilities. Unauthorized hacking (i.e., gaining access to computer systems without prior authorization from the owner) is a crime in most countries, but penetration testing done by request of the owner of the victim system(s) or network(s) is not.[citation needed]
The EC-Council offers another certification, known as Certified Network Defense Architect (CNDA). This certification is designed for United States Government agencies and is available only to members of selected agencies. Other than the name, the content of the course is exactly the same. The exam code for CNDA is 312-99.

In the past eight years with Oxfam New Zealand, Jason has helped survivors of humanitarian emergencies, enabled vulnerable people to work their way out of extreme poverty, and forged global campaigns around climate change, fair trade and the Arms Trade Treaty. Jason will talk about ethical consumerism and the power of having a choice and voice. By adopting a wider perspective we not only increase our personal happiness, we build a more equal world where everyone can thrive.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

APPLE CEO AND FUQUA ALUM TIM COOK TALKS LEADERSHIP AT DUKE
Tim Cook spoke to students and alums when he returned for his 25th reunion
"Explore everything. Push the corners of your mind. Just get on this kind of continual learning roller coaster and see what happens."
This was among the advice Apple CEO Tim Cook shared with students at Duke University's Fuqua School of Business on April 26th. Back on campus for his 25-year reunion, Cook took part in an hour-long dialogue with Fuqua Dean Bill Boulding and the students in a jam-packed Geneen Auditorium buzzing with excitement to hear from the leader of the world's most profitable company.
The Apple CEO has embarked on a career far different than he had envisioned after graduating from Fuqua's Evening Executive MBA program in 1988. "For me the journey was not predictable at all. You have to find your own north star and stay with your north star."
As 450 Daytime MBA students prepared to graduate, Cook advised the students to heed Abraham Lincoln's words of wisdom: "I will prepare and someday my chance will come."
Cook shared the three keys to his leadership at Apple: people, strategy, and execution. "If you get those three right the world is a great place."
Students were able to get a unique glimpse into Cook's motivation, inspiration and leadership role models. Raised in the south and a witness to racial injustice, Cook described his admiration for Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King Junior's bravery in risking their lives to fight for what they believed in. He has just three photos in his office: two of Kennedy and one of King.
Cook was asked when to follow strict principles of business theory and when to break the rules. His response stressed the importance of risks and learning from failure. "You should rarely follow the rules. What Fuqua teaches you so well is how to learn and how to collaborate. Write your own rules."
This message resonated with first-year MBA student Shelby Hall. "I know this follows Steve Jobs' belief that Apple creates products which consumers didn't ever know existed," she said. "It was interesting to hear Tim Cook's perspective on how we should balance writing our own rules while applying the foundations of business taught here at Fuqua."
Cook also spoke about some of his recollections from Fuqua. "The people made it an incredible experience. It was great for me to see how bright people approached solutions in different ways."
First-year MBA student Juan Danzilo says Cook's willingness to share his experiences shows a deep commitment to Fuqua. "Tim Cook's presence reflects Fuqua's sense of community. His humility and eloquence is admirable. It certainly was a unique opportunity for MBA students to hear from such an inspirational leader."

"An Ethical Hacker Speaks" by Daorley Downy (2016). Alexander Brailowsky plays Chopin's Prelude No. 24.
FULL TEXT:
This is part of my therapy and a little nonspecific boast based on truth. I'm not good at keeping things about myself secret. I was a white hat or nondestructive and nonmercenary hacker for ten years while doing office work. Nobody knew what I was doing; I won't say what I did or how I did it, but it would blow the mind of any techie humble enough to acknowledge it.
The existence of real ethical hackers is naturally either denied or beyond most programmers' comprehension, and the self-taught things I knew and had to set aside have to my knowledge never been part of any school's curriculum. The staff of Microsoft or any other large software outfit will deny the existence of "good" hackers, but without one or two of them in their back rooms they could not continue. The proof of this is that the old DOS command prompt is still a thing Windows can't get rid of. I had to retire from white hat hacking after ten years coz I'd done all I wanted to and was burned out by it 16 years ago at age 48.
The only clue I'll give is that Bill Gates, Peter Norton and I all have something in common, and Bill and company eventually designed Windows to stop creative freedom lovers like me. It took at least one elite programmer at MS to shut me down. My hat is off to them for being able to do that, even they they are an ass kissing mercenary.
I say to Bill, thanks for Windows and its functionality. But I also say, Bill, YOU FUCKED UP BIG TIME WITH THE WINDOWS REGISTRY. Your anal retentive need to have a record of all a computer's programs and processes has fatally tripped you up.
If Windows 10 produced a major decline at Microsoft, I would not be surprised because there's another thing only I and a few understand. It could be called "the crack of doom" for arrogant, over controlling Microsoft and its obtuse lack of foresight. All created entities and living beings are subject to the crack.
I'm older now and not interested in trying to clean up your Registry mess on my computer, Bill, or pay one of your bootlickers to do it. But I just might have to pay some bootlicker....
An inferior product contains the seeds of its own end. My pride is that everything I created was "chaos, bullet and crash" proof.
All you so-called "programmers" at Microsoft should be ashamed of telling anyone who you work for. It would be better if you switched to an honorable career in garbage collection, but you'd probably fail in that too. You did your best, but it wasn't good enough. RIP, gang.

RIP, gang.

CARTA: Francisco Ayala: Evolution of Ethical Behavior and Moral Values: Biology? Culture?
(Visit: http://www.uctv.tv/) The question whether ethical behavior is biologically determined may refer to either one of the following two issues. First, is the capacity for ethics—the proclivity to judge human actions as either right or wrong—determined by the biological nature of human beings? Second, are the systems or codes of ethical norms accepted by human beings biologically determined? Tem

Filmed at Church House on 30th November 2015.
Almost all of us want to make a difference in our lives. So we give to charity, recycle, volunteer, or cut down our carbon emissions. But are we getting it right? In a world where ever more data is available, shouldn’t we be paying closer attention to the measurable effects of our altruistic actions? Why, for example do we spend so much time and effort researching hotels and restaurants online while we rarely bother to investigate the effectiveness of the charities we donate to? Are we more concerned with feeling good about ourselves than actually doing good?
Enter William MacAskill, rising star philosopher at Oxford University and co-founder of the Effective Altruism movement. MacAskill’s new book Doing Good Better has won acclaim from the likes of Peter Singer and Steven Pinker. Bill Gates, perhaps the world’s greatest philanthropist, has even described him as ‘a data nerd after my own heart.’ By crunching the numbers, MacAskill has shown that the standard ways of doing good often turn out to be less effective than we think. For example:
- Giving to disaster relief is generally not the best way to help the poor.
- Buying sweatshop produced goods generally reduces poverty.
- Buying Fairtrade achieves little.
- Typical charities do a hundred times less good than the best charities.
We need to be more rational and savvy, MacAskill argues, when it comes to giving, and we need to be willing to accept that the best ways to do good are often counterintuitive: If you want to reduce your carbon footprint, he claims, rather than buy local produce you should donate to offsetting charities. If you want to reduce animal suffering, you should first stop eating chicken, not beef. When choosing your career, working for a non-profit isn’t necessarily the most altruistic choice: you can achieve more good over your lifetime by taking a highly-paid job and donating a chunk of your earnings to worthwhile causes. And in order to have the biggest impact, forget the maxim that charity begins at home: you should give money to organisations that save lives in the developing world rather than those that help people at the bottom of the pile in your own rich country.
But not everyone agrees with MacAskill’s utilitarian approach to altruism. Sharing the stage with him in this Intelligence Squared event will be priest and philosopher Giles Fraser. To Fraser, the important point is that we are people, not algorithms, and our personal attachments and loyalties are an important part of our identities. So if it comes a choice between spending a few hours consoling a bereaved friend, or using that time to earn money to give to a good cause, don’t the fundamental requirements of kindness and empathy – the qualities that make us human – make consoling the friend the correct ethical choice? And can it really be right for an individual to choose a dispiriting but lucrative career spanning decades in order to fund a deworming initiative in Africa?
These are some of the ethical challenges that BBC business editor Kamal Ahmed steered our speakers through. In the front row we had heads of charities, philosophers and philanthropists to take part in the discussion.

Templeton prize recipient and eminent evolutionary biologist and philosopher Francisco J. Ayala proposes that the moral evaluation of actions emerges from human rationality and thus it is a necessary implication of our biological make-up. But the norms according to which we decide which actions are good and which actions are evil are largely culturally determined, although conditioned by biological predispositions, such as parental care. Recorded on 12/07/2015. Series: "CARTA - Center for Academic Research and Training in Anthropogeny" [2/2016] [Humanities] [Science] [Show ID: 29977]

Cliffe Knechtle has a great conversation with college students at a campus in the southwest US.
The "Give Me An Answer" ministry began as an outgrowth of the dialogues Cliffe Knechtle has had with students on various university campuses throughout the United States. These universities include the University of Maine, Harvard, MIT, University of Florida, University of Texas, University of Wisconsin, University of Minnesota, University of California Los Angeles, University of California San Diego, Berkeley, Stanford, University of Hawaii and the University of Washington. Cliffe spoke on these campuses in front of the Student Union or Library at noon for five to ten minutes. At the close of his initial remarks, he'd open up the time for questions and answers, which usually turned into a two to four hour dialogue with students. His crowd size ranged from 25 - 500 students at a time, and between classes, new students would join the discussion. This is an extremely effective way to reach a large number of university students with the Gospel of Christ.

For decades, the spaces we live in have been built by consensus. Planners, architects, councils, consultation; and always the watchful eye of the regulators and elected officials.
But the world's favourite digital spaces are largely in the hands of people like you and me. We have to oversee ourselves—and it's not going very well.
Are we focusing on the right problems? Or just aggrandising the mundane? How do we know what the right problems are? How can we guide ourselves to appreciate the cultural and personal impact of the decisions we make?
It's time for our industry to become ethically aware, if we're to have a chance of doing the right thing.
Cennydd Bowles is a design lead at Twitter, with a decade of experience advising companies on the benefits of customer-focused design. He writes a regular column on design for A List Apart, and is the author of the book Undercover User Experience Design.
