Recently I did a full review on the Knipex Cobra Pliers, and there seems to be some confusion about the differences between them & the Irwin Groovelock Pliers. I decided to show you, rather than just write out a reply & even went down to Lowes to buy a brand new pair for comparison purposes.
The Knipex Cobras are one of, if not the most popular and well liked self locking pliers on the market today. They work extremely well, and they perform where others fail.
The Irwin Groovelock pliers do look similar to the Cobras, but there are many differences that make the two completely different in real world applications. In this video I will show you exactly what my thoughts are on them, and why I do not think that they are the same.

Carrying on the tradition of top quality pliers, Knipex has decided to couple two of their most popular pliers into one very useful set. In this video I will show you first hand the ins-and-outs of the Knipex Minis --- the two smallest sizes of the Pliers Wrench & Cobras.
Despite the very small size, functionally & cosmetically both pairs are identical to their larger counterparts. The operation of them is still as simple as pressing in the adjustment button and sliding them open and closed to your desired setting. Once you let go, they are locked in place & ready for work.
The nice thing about this particular set, is the fact that Knipex included a nylon carrying pouch at no extra charge with a sewn-in belt loop. For the technicians on the go, this is an excellent idea since you can keep both pairs on your side & will always have them at arms length when you need them.
Although both pairs are extremely useful, they are completely different. The Cobras will literally "lock on" to a fastener & not let go --- allowing you to remove the most stubborn, seized, or corroded nut or bolt with ease. The Pliers Wrench has a very unique design that will not mar the surface of fasteners due to it's flat jaws (no teeth) & they have a cam action which literally gives you a 10-to-1 power increase & they close evenly when you clamp down on something. This will keep them in place, they will not slip, and you will be able to do things like straighten sheet metal, press in bushings, or even do everyday things like tighten plumbing fittings with ease.
The Knipex Minis are a great set to have on your side, in your truck, or even at home in the toolbox. Because of their extremely small size & unique features, they will definitely have some huge advantages --- despite being so tiny.

Knipex
Knipex is a German manufacturer of pliers for professional use. The headquarters are located in Wuppertal-Cronenberg. For four generations, Knipex has been an independent, owner-managed family company.
History
The company was founded in 1882 by C. Gustav Putsch as a forge. In the early days manufacturing was focused on pincers and blacksmith’s tongs, initially handmade then increasingly produced using drop forging hammers and various machines. In 1942 Carl Putsch, the second generation representative, registered the “Knipex“ brand. Especially since the 1950s the program has constantly had additional types of pliers added to it. Karl Putsch took over as manager in 1954. Manufacturing operations became increasingly automated and product innovation took ever greater importance. Starting in the 1990s various subsidiaries joined the Knipex Group. The fourth generation took over the company’s reins. Foreign sales offices were established, and nowadays more than 60 percent of output is exported to numerous countries worldwide.

Pliers
Pliers are a hand tool used to hold objects firmly, possibly developed from tongs used to handle hot metal in Bronze Age Europe. They are also useful for bending and compressing a wide range of materials. Generally, pliers consist of a pair of metal first-class levers joined at a fulcrum positioned closer to one end of the levers, creating short jaws on one side of the fulcrum, and longer handles on the other side. This arrangement creates a mechanical advantage, allowing the force of the hand's grip to be amplified and focused on an object with precision. The jaws can also be used to manipulate objects too small or unwieldy to be manipulated with the fingers.
Pincers are a similar tool with a different type of head used for cutting and pulling, rather than squeezing. Tools designed for safely handling hot objects are usually called tongs. Special tools for making crimp connections in electrical and electronic applications are often called "crimping pliers"; each type of connection uses its own dedicated tool.

In this video I will show you first hand the ins-and-outs of the Knipex Minis --- the two smallest sizes of the Pliers Wrench & Cobras. Despite the very small size, functionally & cosmetically both pairs are identical to their larger counterparts. The operation of them is still as simple as pressing in the adjustment button and sliding them open and closed to your desired setting. Once you let go, they are locked in place & ready for work. The nice thing about this particular set, is the fact that Knipex included a nylon carrying pouch at no extra charge with a sewn-in belt loop. For the technicians on the go, this is an excellent idea since you can keep both pairs on your side & will always have them at arms length when you need them. Although both pairs are extremely useful, they are completely different. The Cobras will literally "lock on" to a fastener & not let go --- allowing you to remove the most stubborn, seized, or corroded nut or bolt with ease. The Pliers Wrench has a very unique design that will not mar the surface of fasteners due to it's flat jaws (no teeth) & they have a cam action which literally gives you a 10-to-1 power increase & they close evenly when you clamp down on something. This will keep them in place, they will not slip, and you will be able to do things like straighten sheet metal, press in bushings, or even do everyday things like tighten plumbing fittings with ease. The unique camming action allows the jaws to close perfectly evenly & the pressure is the same the entire way across....this really helps preventing slippage or rounding of corners.
Another great feature is the ratcheting action that occurs by slightly loosening your grip on them, rotating the pliers, and reapplying pressure. There is no need to physically remove & reposition the pliers in order to turn a fastener effectively.

Carrying on the tradition of top quality pliers, Knipex has decided to couple two of their most popular pliers into one very useful set. In this video I will show you first hand the ins-and-outs of the Knipex Minis --- the two smallest sizes of the Pliers Wrench & Cobras.
Despite the very small size, functionally & cosmetically both pairs are identical to their larger counterparts. The operation of them is still as simple as pressing in the adjustment button and sliding them open and closed to your desired setting. Once you let go, they are locked in place & ready for work.
The nice thing about this particular set, is the fact that Knipex included a nylon carrying pouch at no extra charge with a sewn-in belt loop. For the technicians on the go, this is an excellent idea since you can keep both pairs on your side & will always have them at arms length when you need them.
Although both pairs are extremely useful, they are completely different. The Cobras will literally "lock on" to a fastener & not let go --- allowing you to remove the most stubborn, seized, or corroded nut or bolt with ease. The Pliers Wrench has a very unique design that will not mar the surface of fasteners due to it's flat jaws (no teeth) & they have a cam action which literally gives you a 10-to-1 power increase & they close evenly when you clamp down on something. This will keep them in place, they will not slip, and you will be able to do things like straighten sheet metal, press in bushings, or even do everyday things like tighten plumbing fittings with ease.

DIY: Removing Ear Crimp Hose Clamps
Video tutorial on how to cut a single ear or double ear crimp style hose clamp. I do show a couple different methods in this tutorial, each method will be dependant if you have the tools on hand. If you plan on using the high speed rotary tool method, DO NOT USE it on flammable fluids, this does create some heat, as well as sparks which could cause a fire. People request this video a lot, so I figured I'd make a quick video showing the gear that I carry in my truck every day - vehicle EDC gear basically. Some cool stuff, some normal stuff. Maybe will give you an idea of how to organize your vehicle and what to keep in it. It covers emergency supplies as well as normal every day carry stuff.
Some of this stuff is specific to a Tacoma, specifically the 2016 tacoma, but most of it is just for whatever.

Video tutorial on how to cut a single ear or double ear crimp style hose clamp. I do show a couple different methods in this tutorial, each method will be dependant if you have the tools on hand. If you plan on using the high speed rotary tool method, DO NOT USE it on flammable fluids, this does create some heat, as well as sparks which could cause a fire. These crimp clamps are only intended to be for one time usage, once cut they cannot be removed again. They can be found on a variety of applications such as vacuum lines, coolant lines, fuel lines, hydraulic lines, washer fluid lines, etc.

-side cutters/diagonal cutting pliers

-safety glasses

Procedure:
-in order to remove this style of clamp, it does have to be cut to release the tension and be remove
-the ear can be mechanically cut by using the specific tool intended for these clamps or using a pair of bullnose pliers/end-cutting pliers or side cutters/diagonal cutting pliers can be used to cut the ear
-if you are limited for room, do not have leverage required to cut it, or are having trouble cutting it in general you can use a high speed rotary tool with an abrasive cutting disk
-I do not recommend using the high speed rotary tool with an abrasive cutting disk on flammable fluids
-be sure to wear safety glasses when using this method, gloves are also great protection as well
-once the ear is cut using either method, even a double ear crimp clamp only requires one ear to be cut, the clamp can be spread open
-you can either bend the clamp open and remove the clamp, or slide the clamp back
-now you can remove the hose off the fitting
