A recent CSIRO poll on attitudes to the climate hysteria, (which was quietly released on Melbourne Cup day to reduce attention to it) has shown that Australians who do not think that out Carbon Dioxide emissions are a problem, now outnumber those who are concerned by our release of the harmless gas-of-life CO2.

A Spanish cancer patient has received a titanium sternum and rib cage designed and manufactured by Melbourne-based medical device company Anatomics and printed utilising our 3D printing facility, Lab 22.
Suffering from a chest wall sarcoma (a type of cancerous tumour that grows, in this instance, around the rib cage), the 54 year old man needed his sternum and a portion of his rib cage replaced. This part of the chest is notoriously tricky to recreate with prosthetics, due to the complex geometry and design required for each patient.
So the patient’s surgical team determined that a fully customisable 3D printed sternum and rib cage was the best option.

With almost $20 million worth of scientific equipment, this 94m ship is capable of mapping the sea floor at any depth, collecting weather data 20km into the atmosphere, analysing fish species with sonar and revealing the composition of the sea bed 100m below the sea floor. And it's only hours away from reaching its home port of Hobart.

Biodiversity is the term used to encompass the variety of all living organisms on Earth, including their genetic diversity, species diversity and the diversity of marine, terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, together with their associated evolutionary and ecological processes. But as biodiversity is also a human concept, different people bring their own set of values to bear on it. Dr Steve Morton talks about the different values that humans obtain from biodiversity and the role we will need to play in shaping its future. (07:51)

Scientists on board the CSIRO research vessel Investigator have taken rare video footage of an eruption of the Big Ben volcano on remote sub-Antarctic Heard Island during an IMAS voyage to the Kerguelen Plateau.
Big Ben, which includes the 2,745 m tall Mawson Peak, the highest mountain on Australian territory north of Antarctica, is known to have erupted at least three other times since 2000.
But the remoteness of Heard Island and the neighbouring McDonald Islands, also an active volcano, means eruptions are rarely glimpsed by people and usually only recognised from sparse satellite images.
RV Investigator is circling the islands on the sub-Antarctic Kerguelen Plateau as part of an IMAS-led voyage to study the link between active volcanoes on the seafloor and the mobilisation of iron which enriches and supports life in the Southern Ocean.
Voyage Chief Scientist, IMAS's Professor Mike Coffin, and PhD candidate Jodi Fox comment on the eruption.

We've commissioned Australia's largest facility for printing thin film solar cells. These A3 size devices could soon be coated onto buildings, into windows and on roofs to provide power in a range of different locations and circumstances.

The NSW RFS has been working with the CSIRO and Victorian Country Fire Service in Braidwood over the past week to conduct experimental burns in grassland areas.
The experiments are looking at how fire reacts in grassland in different weather conditions and in different types of dry, or cured, grass.
The outcomes of the experiments will help to clarify the impact that grass curing levels have on fire danger ratings and will also help in planning for hazard reductions.

This material supports that the debris from MH370 may be found as far west of the search area as La Réunion Island and is consistent with the currently defined Search area. Blue, black and red dots simulate items with leeway factors (applied to the 10m wind velocity) of 1.2, 1.5 and 1.8%. The items originated along the black arc (7th arc) on 8 March 2014. White arrows are the winds for the day shown. Magenta symbols are positions of real drifting buoys (with sea-anchors at 12m) on the day. A Spanish cancer patient has received a titanium sternum and rib cage designed and manufactured by Melbourne-based medical device company Anatomics and printed utilising our 3D printing facility, Lab 22.
Suffering from a chest wall sarcoma (a type of cancerous tumour that grows, in this instance, around the rib cage), the 54 year old man needed his sternum and a portion of his rib cage replaced. This part of the chest is notoriously tricky to recreate with prosthetics, due to the complex geometry and design required for each patient.
So the patient’s surgical team determined that a fully customisable 3D printed sternum and rib cage was the best option.

But the remoteness of Heard Island and the neighbouring McDonald Islands, also an active volcano, means eruptions are rarely glimpsed by people and usually only recognised from sparse satellite images.
RV Investigator is circling the islands on the sub-Antarctic Kerguelen Plateau as part of an IMAS-led voyage to study the link between active volcanoes on the seafloor and the mobilisation of iron which enriches and supports life in the Southern Ocean.
Voyage Chief Scientist, IMAS's Professor Mike Coffin, and PhD candidate Jodi Fox comment on the eruption.

Scientists from the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) discovered that - unlike in humans - the immune system of the bat also negates any effects of lethal diseases such as Middle Eastern Respiratory Syndrome (MERS), Ebola and Hendra virus.
