Automotive InDepthFather on the run When the police first came to arrest Ahmed in early 2014 and realized he was a toddler, they took his father -- Mansour Qorany Sharara -- instead. Sharara was detained for four months before a judge released him. Lawyers of other defendants in the case had shown the court Ahmed's birth certificate in hopes of discrediting the investigations that led to their clients' arrests. "Security submitted their investigations 24 hours after the incident took place, naming 116 defendants," lawyer Mahmoud Abu Kaf told CNN. "We wanted to tell the judge that these are invalid investigations and our proof is the inclusion of the child and a man -- who was out of the country when the incident

People6:57 PM ET The U.S. Navy must get ready for new, huge Chinese ships that will try to ram Americans away from their new, fake islands. China is attempting to create a situation wherein the United States to uphold international law will either have to accede to their territorial claims in the South China Sea or openly resort to the use of hostile force, allowing China to publicly portray the U.S. as an imperialist aggressor state. China is betting that the United States will not take this action and that power over the South China Sea and all the resources that lie beneath will pass to Beijing, breaking American influence in the region. The United States must anticipate China’s next move, get inside
Defense OneAs Rob Gronkowski’s party cruise continues to be unapologetic about its debauchery, a few NFL players are wondering if there’s a certain double standard that allows the tight end to party with hundreds of strangers. The argument that Gronkowski supporters will make is this: He’s the best tight end in the league, he’s coming off another good season, his parties don’t hurt anyone and he’s never seemed to be anything but focused come football time. He’s clearly carved out his niche as the party king of the NFL. The argument Prince Amukamara, a longtime Giants cornerback, and Charles James, a Texans cornerback, are making though: It is highly unlikely that public opinion would ever be OK with Cam

TrackrSuzanne Barakat, the sister of a Muslim student killed alongside his wife and sister-in-law last year in an attack in North Carolina, challenged Donald J. Trump to meet with her after a speech in which he spoke approvingly of killing Islamic terrorists with bullets dipped in the blood of pigs. Barakat, 28, a physician in San Francisco, said the comments and other anti-Muslim rhetoric from Trump, including a proposal to ban Muslims from entering the country, have contributed to an atmosphere of intolerance that she fears could have deadly consequences. “It allows for the Average Joe to see Muslims the way Craig Hicks saw my brother and his wife of six weeks and her sister,” she said, referring to the man who killed her relatives last February. Trump has not responded to Barakat’s invitation for a face-to-face meeting, she said.
Miami HeraldYou all had that older sibling who teased you throughout your childhood with stories describing how you were picked up from a garbage dump, don’t you? Yes, I was picked up by this family, the only one which I know as mine, some 24 years ago from the garbage dump where I was left to rot along with other unwanted, disowned objects abandoned by the society. My parents couldn’t produce a birth certificate during my admission in primary school and had to process a formal adoption.
Avantika says...When the schools superintendent in Crystal City, Tex., saw the murky, strange-smelling water coming out of her sister’s faucet last week, she knew this was another problem she’d have to deal with on her own. “Right now, there’s not really anyone in charge to oversee and to make people aware of the condition of the water,” Imelda Allen told KSAT. The mayor, mayor pro tempore, a council member and the city manager were arrested this month on sweeping bribery and conspiracy charges. As of Wednesday, when the water started changing color, all of the charged officials were facing a recall, and the mayor, Ricardo Lopez, had just been arrested for a second time for disorderly conduct during the first city council meeting since his indictment.
