Geographical Distribution
The Zhuang are the largest of the 55 minority people groups in mainland China, located primarily in Guangxi and Yunnan provinces. According to the 1990 census there were 15,500,000 Zhuang of whom 68,000 or 0.4% are reported to be Christian. Ninety-one percent of the Zhuang live in the western half of Guangxi (in the Zhuang Autonomous Region). Of the remaining Zhuang, 6% are in the Wenshan Autonomous Prefecture in neighboring Yunnan, and 3% in Guangdong.
Zhuang are also found in most of the major cities of Guangxi, making up one third of the population in some. Many Zhuang in cities are fully acculturated and are hard to distinguish from Han Chinese. These have a variety of occupations reflecting the local business community, and some hold political office. However most Zhuang still live in rural villages and are farmers.
Zhuang people can be found in small numbers in Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, Burma, and a few are now in the United States and the UK.

The government reports that only 33 % are illiterate, but another 44 % have only attended part of elementary school. An overall figure of 20 % literacy is probably realistic. The percentage in many villages would be much smaller.

The Zhuang language belongs to the Sino-Thai language group. There are 8 main dialects with over a million speakers of each, and there are numerous smaller dialect groups. With over 50 subdialects, many villages speak their own dialect and can not communicate with villages near-by.
The government has recognized a standard Zhuang dialect by taking a pool of words common to Zhuang living in Wuming, Liuzhou, and Baise. Since all of these cities are in the North of Guangxi, the Standard Zhuang cannot be understood by the 4 million Zhuang living in the South. The language was not written down until the government made an attempt in the early 1950's, but they chose to use a Russian script and it was never accepted by the people. A new Latin script was devised in 1986 and the government through the Minorities Language Commission has encouraged Zhuang to learn this.
Bilingual education was introduced in several places at the grade school level and books were published in this script. It is now generally agreed that this effort too is not working, and several linguists are working on using a base of Chinese characters for Zhuang. A Zhuang/ Chinese/English dictionary is being developed under contact with the government and should be published in the next few years.
Many Zhuang are bi- or trilingual, speaking Zhuang and Mandarin or Cantonese or all three. To most Zhuang there are three languages "My" language, Chinese, and "Foreign Language". Although education in school is supposed to be done in Mandarin the teachers in the Zhuang areas explain things in Zhuang, and since most Zhuang leave school during grade school, they forget the Mandarin they have if they don't have frequent contact with those outside their village

The Zhuang were part of a Tai related group of people covering a large area of Southern China over 2,000 years ago. They were recorded as living in Guangxi when the unification of China took place and prefectures and counties were set up in 213 BC. The animistic Zhuang worship stones, old trees, lands, birds, and "ancestors" believing that all things in nature have a spirit in themselves. Today most Zhuang will worship their ancestors by burning joss sticks in a small bowl in the house, and worship special village deities. They believe that life is dictated by 'spirits', and that some people can control these spirits.
Witchcraft, magic, and mediums are still a part of rural life. In the cities where Zhuang have been assimilated into the Han population they have become atheistic, but there does seem to be a recognized "void" in both rural and urban dwellers' lives. Many Zhuang are also influenced by other traditional Chinese religions (Taoism, Buddhism, and Confucianism).

Jinshan village is located in Nameng township, Qinbei district, of Qinzhou prefecture, of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous region.
The Zhuang are native to Guangxi and there is evidence of Zhuang people living in Guangxi going back over 2000 years.
Located in one of the historically poorest areas of China known for it's corrupt officials and bandits, martial arts have long been practiced in Zhuang villages.
Today they are still being practiced in Jinshan village where they have formed a village boxing troop to teach the children the traditional methods.
However this short documentary instead focuses on some of the older boxers in the area who are primarily farmers living in the old poorer areas of the village.
They recount some of the villages martial history and show some of the architectural features built into the village to stop bandits.
The Zhuang people are the largest minority group in China. Their language is part of the Tai language family and they have their own system of writing which developed from written Chinese over a thousand years ago.
The native Zhuang religion is called Moism (not the same as the warring states period sect of Mo Tzu).
It is the ancient religion of Zhuang people and has many similarities with Chinese folk religion.
The main god is the creator Bu Luotuo and his wife Me Hoa (the Flower Mother). They also share some of the popular gods of Chinese folk religion such as the Dragon Kings and Tudigong (local Earth God).
The Zhuang people have a long history of rebellions against local Han Chinese officials and have historically often allied themselves with various local kingdoms that have appeared in Yunnan, northern Vietnam and northern Burma.
They also have a long history of warfare with various Yao and Miao groups who during the Ming dynasty began invading southwards into Zhuang territories looking to expand their land holdings.
During the Ming dynasty Zhuang and Yao warriors from Guangxi and western Guangdong were hired to create special combat units known as Lang Bing "Wolf Soldiers".
They were sent to the eastern and southern coastal regions to combat Wokou pirates.
They were very successful and continued to be used by the Ming to quell uprisings within China.

The Zhuang people (Chinese: 壮族; pinyin: Zhuàngzú; Zhuang: Bouxcuengh) are an ethnic group who mostly live in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in southern China. Some also live in the Yunnan, Guangdong, Guizhou and Hunan provinces. They form one of the 55 minority ethnic groups officially recognized by the People's Republic of China. With the Buyi, Tay–Nùng, and other northern Tai speakers, they are sometimes known as the Rau or Rao. Their population, estimated at 18 million people, puts them second only to the Han Chinese and makes the Zhuang the largest minority in China.
The Zhuang also have their own oral epic, the Baeu Rodo.
The Chinese character used for the Zhuang people has changed several times. Their autonym, "Cuengh" in Standard Zhuang, was originally written with the rare character Zhuàng 獞 (or tóng, meaning "a variety of wild dog").). Chinese characters typically combine a semantic element or radical and a phonetic element. John DeFrancis calls Zhuàng 獞, with the "dog radical" 犭 and a tóng 童 phonetic, an ethnic slur and describes how the People's Republic of China removed it. In 1949, after the Chinese civil war, the logograph 獞 was officially replaced with Zhuàng 僮 (or tóng "child; boy servant"), with the "human radical" 亻and the same phonetic. Later, during the standardization of simplified Chinese characters, Zhuàng 僮 was changed to a completely different character Zhuàng 壮 (meaning "strong; robust").

Martial arts of the Zhuang people of Jinshan village, Guangxi
Jinshan village is located in Nameng township, Qinbei district, of Qinzhou prefecture, of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous region. The Zhuang are native to Guangxi and there is evidence of Zhuang people living in Guangxi going back over 2000 years. Located in one of the historically poorest areas of China known for it's corrupt officials and bandits, martial arts have long been practiced in Zhuang villages. The government reports that only 33 % are illiterate, but another 44 % have only attended part of elementary school. An overall figure of 20 % literacy is probably realistic. The percentage in many villages would be much smaller.
Language Group/Language & Dialects:
The Zhuang language belongs to the Sino-Thai language group. There are 8 main dialects with over a million speakers of each, and there are numerous smaller dialect groups. With over 50 subdialects, many villages speak their own dialect and can not communicate with villages near-by.
The government has recognized a standard Zhuang dialect by taking a pool of words common to Zhuang living in Wuming, Liuzhou, and Baise. Since all of these cities are in the North of Guangxi, the Standard Zhuang cannot be understood by the 4 million Zhuang living in the South. The language was not written down until the government made an attempt in the early 1950's, but they chose to use a Russian script and it was never accepted by the people. A new Latin script was devised in 1986 and the government through the Minorities Language Commission has encouraged Zhuang to learn this.
Bilingual education was introduced in several places at the grade school level and books were published in this script. It is now generally agreed that this effort too is not working, and several linguists are working on using a base of Chinese characters for Zhuang. A Zhuang/ Chinese/English dictionary is being developed under contact with the government and should be published in the next few years.
Many Zhuang are bi- or trilingual, speaking Zhuang and Mandarin or Cantonese or all three. To most Zhuang there are three languages "My" language, Chinese, and "Foreign Language". Although education in school is supposed to be done in Mandarin the teachers in the Zhuang areas explain things in Zhuang, and since most Zhuang leave school during grade school, they forget the Mandarin they have if they don't have frequent contact with those outside their village
History
The Zhuang were part of a Tai related group of people covering a large area of Southern China over 2,000 years ago. They were recorded as living in Guangxi when the unification of China took place and prefectures and counties were set up in 213 BC. Religion and Beliefs
The animistic Zhuang worship stones, old trees, lands, birds, and "ancestors" believing that all things in nature have a spirit in themselves. Today most Zhuang will worship their ancestors by burning joss sticks in a small bowl in the house, and worship special village deities. They believe that life is dictated by 'spirits', and that some people can control these spirits.
Witchcraft, magic, and mediums are still a part of rural life. The government has recognized a standard Zhuang dialect by taking a pool of words common to Zhuang living in Wuming, Liuzhou, and Baise. Since all of these cities are in the North of Guangxi, the Standard Zhuang cannot be understood by the 4 million Zhuang living in the South. The Zhuang were part of a Tai related group of people covering a large area of Southern China over 2,000 years ago. They were recorded as living in Guangxi when the unification of China took place and prefectures and counties were set up in 213 BC. Religion and Beliefs
The animistic Zhuang worship stones, old trees, lands, birds, and "ancestors" believing that all things in nature have a spirit in themselves. Today most Zhuang will worship their ancestors by burning joss sticks in a small bowl in the house, and worship special village deities. They believe that life is dictated by 'spirits', and that some people can control these spirits.
Witchcraft, magic, and mediums are still a part of rural life. In the cities where Zhuang have been assimilated into the Han population they have become atheistic, but there does seem to be a recognized "void" in both rural and urban dwellers' lives. Many Zhuang are also influenced by other traditional Chinese religions (Taoism, Buddhism, and Confucianism).

Located in one of the historically poorest areas of China known for it's corrupt officials and bandits, martial arts have long been practiced in Zhuang villages.
Today they are still being practiced in Jinshan village where they have formed a village boxing troop to teach the children the traditional methods.
However this short documentary instead focuses on some of the older boxers in the area who are primarily farmers living in the old poorer areas of the village.
They recount some of the villages martial history and show some of the architectural features built into the village to stop bandits.

The main god is the creator Bu Luotuo and his wife Me Hoa (the Flower Mother). They also share some of the popular gods of Chinese folk religion such as the Dragon Kings and Tudigong (local Earth God).
The Zhuang people have a long history of rebellions against local Han Chinese officials and have historically often allied themselves with various local kingdoms that have appeared in Yunnan, northern Vietnam and northern Burma.
They also have a long history of warfare with various Yao and Miao groups who during the Ming dynasty began invading southwards into Zhuang territories looking to expand their land holdings.
During the Ming dynasty Zhuang and Yao warriors from Guangxi and western Guangdong were hired to create special combat units known as Lang Bing "Wolf Soldiers".
They were sent to the eastern and southern coastal regions to combat Wokou pirates.
They were very successful and continued to be used by the Ming to quell uprisings within China.

Of the remaining Zhuang, 6% are in the Wenshan Autonomous Prefecture in neighboring Yunnan, and 3% in Guangdong.
Zhuang are also found in most of the major cities of Guangxi, making up one third of the population in some. Many Zhuang in cities are fully acculturated and are hard to distinguish from Han Chinese. These have a variety of occupations reflecting the local business community, and some hold political office. However most Zhuang still live in rural villages and are farmers.
Zhuang people can be found in small numbers in Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, Burma, and a few are now in the United States and the UK.

The Zhuang (simplified Chinese: 壮族; traditional Chinese: 壯族; pinyin: Zhuàngzú) are an ethnic group of people who mostly live in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region in southern China. Some also live in the Yunnan, Guangdong, Guizhou and Hunan provinces. They form one of the 55 minority ethnic groups officially recognized by the People's Republic of China. Their population, estimated at 18 million people, puts them second only to the Han Chinese and makes the Zhuang the largest minority in China.The Zhuang also have their own oral epic, which is known as the Baeu-ro-do.
The name of the Zhuang (Rao) minority used to be written 獞. However, the character also refers to a variety of wild dogs, so it was considered an ethnic slur. In 1949, the "animal" radical was replaced by the "human" radical, and the character became 僮. Eventually, the character was replaced with 壮, a character already in existence meaning "sturdy" or "strong".
History
The Zhuang are of Tai origin. The Rao (Zhuang,Tai) peoples developed a unique irrigation system which was useful for growing rice. Long struggles with China to avoid destruction (as they were thought as "barbarians" by the Han) led the Tais around 1100 AD to migrate south from Southern China to create the Lao, Thai and Shan peoples of Indochina, and even as far away as Assam, India.
The Zhuang did not record their history until the Eastern Zhou dynasty (475-221 BC) of China. The Han Dynasty (206 BC to 220 AD) thought the Zhuang culture was unproductive, so they reduced local authority and consolidated their authority with Military posts at Guilin, Wuzhou, and Yulin.
In 42 AD, the Trung Sisters' uprising was quelled by an army under General Ma Yuan, who sought not only victory on the battlefield but felt true concern for the Zhuang people. He reorganized the Zhuang Local Authority, improved public works, dug canals and reclaimed land to increase production. His work brought the Zhuang into a more modern condition, and temples in his honor can still be seen to this day.
An influx of immigrant Yao people from Hunan after the collapse of the Han Dynasty caused the region to become unstable as the Yao showed hostility to assimilation. The Guiping area of Guangxi, where the Yao settled, would become a hotbed of revolution against Han rule, causing the Zhuang people to suffer terribly, despite their passive stance on assimilation.
Under the Tang Dynasty, Guangxi became part of Ling-nan Tao (large province) with present day Hainan and Guangdong. The noted scholar Liu Zongyuan was prefectural administrator at Liuzhou. Irked by Chinese expansion, however, the Zhuang moved to support the Tai kingdom of Nanchao in Yunnan. Guangxi was then divided into an area of Zhuang ascendancy west of Nanning and an area of Han ascendancy east of Nanning.
After the collapse of the Tang a new Chinese kingdom known as Nan Han (Southern Han), based in Guangdong, gained minimal control over the Zhuang, but the Nan Han Kingdom was plagued by instability and it was annexed by the Song Dynasty of China in 971. The name of the Zhuang (Rao) minority used to be written 獞. However, the character also refers to a variety of wild dogs, so it was considered an ethnic slur. In 1949, the "animal" radical was replaced by the "human" radical, and the character became 僮. Eventually, the character was replaced with 壮, a character already in existence meaning "sturdy" or "strong".

The Zhuang are of Tai origin. The Rao (Zhuang,Tai) peoples developed a unique irrigation system which was useful for growing rice. Long struggles with China to avoid destruction (as they were thought as "barbarians" by the Han) led the Tais around 1100 AD to migrate south from Southern China to create the Lao, Thai and Shan peoples of Indochina, and even as far away as Assam, India.

These have a variety of occupations reflecting the local business community, and some hold political office. However most Zhuang still live in rural villages and are farmers.

Since all of these cities are in the North of Guangxi, the Standard Zhuang cannot be understood by the 4 million Zhuang living in the South. The language was not written down until the government made an attempt in the early 1950's, but they chose to use a Russian script and it was never accepted by the people. A new Latin script was devised in 1986 and the government through the Minorities Language Commission has encouraged Zhuang to learn this.
Bilingual education was introduced in several places at the grade school level and books were published in this script. It is now generally agreed that this effort too is not working, and several linguists are working on using a base of Chinese characters for Zhuang. A Zhuang/ Chinese/English dictionary is being developed under contact with the government and should be published in the next few years.
Many Zhuang are bi- or trilingual, speaking Zhuang and Mandarin or Cantonese or all three. To most Zhuang there are three languages "My" language, Chinese, and "Foreign Language". Today most Zhuang will worship their ancestors by burning joss sticks in a small bowl in the house, and worship special village deities. They believe that life is dictated by 'spirits', and that some people can control these spirits.
Witchcraft, magic, and mediums are still a part of rural life. In the cities where Zhuang have been assimilated into the Han population they have become atheistic, but there does seem to be a recognized "void" in both rural and urban dwellers' lives. Many Zhuang are also influenced by other traditional Chinese religions (Taoism, Buddhism, and Confucianism).

The Zhuang are the largest of the 55 minority people groups in mainland China, located primarily in Guangxi and Yunnan provinces. According to the 1990 census there were 15,500,000 Zhuang of whom 68,000 or 0.4% are reported to be Christian. Ninety-one percent of the Zhuang live in the western half of Guangxi (in the Zhuang Autonomous Region). Of the remaining Zhuang, 6% are in the Wenshan Autonomous Prefecture in neighboring Yunnan, and 3% in Guangdong.
Zhuang are also found in most of the major cities of Guangxi, making up one third of the population in some. Many Zhuang in cities are fully acculturated and are hard to distinguish from Han Chinese. These have a variety of occupations reflecting the local business community, and some hold political office. However most Zhuang still live in rural villages and are farmers.
Zhuang people can be found in small numbers in Vietnam, Laos, Thailand, Burma, and a few are now in the United States and the UK.

Language Group/Language & Dialects:
The Zhuang language belongs to the Sino-Thai language group. There are 8 main dialects with over a million speakers of each, and there are numerous smaller dialect groups. With over 50 subdialects, many villages speak their own dialect and can not communicate with villages near-by.
The government has recognized a standard Zhuang dialect by taking a pool of words common to Zhuang living in Wuming, Liuzhou, and Baise. Since all of these cities are in the North of Guangxi, the Standard Zhuang cannot be understood by the 4 million Zhuang living in the South. The language was not written down until the government made an attempt in the early 1950's, but they chose to use a Russian script and it was never accepted by the people. A new Latin script was devised in 1986 and the government through the Minorities Language Commission has encouraged Zhuang to learn this.
Bilingual education was introduced in several places at the grade school level and books were published in this script. It is now generally agreed that this effort too is not working, and several linguists are working on using a base of Chinese characters for Zhuang. A Zhuang/ Chinese/English dictionary is being developed under contact with the government and should be published in the next few years.
Many Zhuang are bi- or trilingual, speaking Zhuang and Mandarin or Cantonese or all three. To most Zhuang there are three languages "My" language, Chinese, and "Foreign Language". Although education in school is supposed to be done in Mandarin the teachers in the Zhuang areas explain things in Zhuang, and since most Zhuang leave school during grade school, they forget the Mandarin they have if they don't have frequent contact with those outside their village
History
The Zhuang were part of a Tai related group of people covering a large area of Southern China over 2,000 years ago. They were recorded as living in Guangxi when the unification of China took place and prefectures and counties were set up in 213 BC. The Flower Cliff painting by the Zhuang near Ning Ming is over 2,000 years old.
Religion and Beliefs
The animistic Zhuang worship stones, old trees, lands, birds, and "ancestors" believing that all things in nature have a spirit in themselves. Today most Zhuang will worship their ancestors by burning joss sticks in a small bowl in the house, and worship special village deities. They believe that life is dictated by 'spirits', and that some people can control these spirits.
Witchcraft, magic, and mediums are still a part of rural life. In the cities where Zhuang have been assimilated into the Han population they have become atheistic, but there does seem to be a recognized "void" in both rural and urban dwellers' lives. Many Zhuang are also influenced by other traditional Chinese religions (Taoism, Buddhism, and Confucianism).

This movie is a musical movie which the Hmong have in fact dubbed over almost all of the songs in kwv txhiaj / lug txaaj (Hmong folk singing), so in a way you'll be listening to kwv txhiaj / lug txaaj all the time except for one song. I found the Hmong-dubbed version, and I had to fix it with the English-subtitled version which took a little while to do. Because I enjoy this movie very much, I would like to share it to my Hmong pals. :)

The blast took place at an apartment block at 08:00 local time (00:00 GMT) in Liucheng county, said state media. Seventeen separate parcel explosions hit Liucheng on Wednesday. Earlier reports said a suspect, believed to have been behind the bombs, had been arrested. But local media now say he has only been identified. During Bo Xilai's governance in Chongqing, a Beijing lawyer
Li Zhuang was persecuted and imprisoned as he defended a victim of Bo's "anti-triad campaign".
After being released, Li Zhuang tried to reverse his case by
suing all the investigation team members for bending the law
from selfish motives when they worked on Li Zhuang and
Gong Gangmo's case.
On Nov. 29th, Li met with the judge of Chongqing No.1
Intermediate People's court, who promised to handle his case by the legal regulations.
Li Zhuang believes that the court has formally started
the procedure in reviewing his case.
After the meeting in Chongqing No.1 Intermediate People's
Court, Li Zhuang returned to Beijing the same afternoon.
When called by the journalist, he said he was too busy to
give an interview at that moment.
(Li Zhuang, former lawyer from Beijing):"I am having a
meeting now. Can you call me again in three days?
I just came back from Chongqing and have a lot to deal with."
According to a Xinhua agency's report, the officers of
Chongqing No.1 Intermediate People's Court met with Li Zhuang by appointment on Nov. 29th.
They heard Li's opinions of previous charges against him
such as "fabricating evidence" and "obstruction to testify".
Li also submitted relevant materials of evidence to the court.
In the meeting, the judge promised that his case would be
handled by the legal regulations.
Outside the registration hall of the court, Li Zhuang was
interviewed by the journalist from Xinhua agency.
Li said that this was the first time any Chongqing court
official met him by appointment.
He believes that the court has formally started the legal
procedure in reviewing his case.
Li also mentioned that the judge had been carefully listening
to his reasons for appeal during the meeting for over an hour.
In February, 2010, Li zhuang was sentenced to a 1.5-year
imprisonment by the second instance of Chongqing No.1 Intermediate People's Court.
As the defense counsel of Gong Gangmo who was involved
in Bo Xilai's "anti-triad" campaign,
Li Zhuang was charged with crimes of "fabricating evidences"
and "obstruction to testify".
As soon as Li was released, he devoted himself to appealing
and requested a retrial of his case.
On Nov. 23rd, Li Zhuang visited a special reception office of
Supreme Procuratorate to submit his petition materials.
Li was told that his case would be treated following
the due process.
On Nov. 15th, a week before submitting his materials,
Li Zhuang required the Supreme Procuratorate.
He intended to prosecute the investigation team members of
Li Zhuang and Gong Gangmo's cases from Chongqing public bureau system for bending the law for selfish motives.
On Nov. 18th, Li Zhuang told NTD that since being released
last June he had written 17 letters of accusation to different
central agencies of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).
These included the Supreme Court, Supreme Procuratorate
and the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection.
However, he didn't receive any response from any of them.
As the 18th National Congress concluded, Li believes some
changes would take place in the situation of Chongqing.
Li said, "The court system of Chongqing was sitting on the
fence in the past year;
as the 18th Congress closed something will happen there;
let's just wait and see."
After Bo Xilai and Wang Lijun, the two most important
officials involved in the "anti-triad campaign", were arrested.
Several months have passed since Chongqing had its
new leader group.
However, Li Zhuang's case has yet to be redressed and
numerous unjust cases are still left unsolved.
Li Zhuang remarked that, there are many officials promoted
during the "Sing Red, Strike Black" campaign.
They are still at their posts with full power.
Some of them are even the heads of key sectors.
Currently those people are defending their power at any cost,
including impeding the rehabilitation of unjust cases
because they are the ones responsible for those cases.
Mainland media recently reported some "thawing signs"
in Chongqing.
Insiders revealed that the police had secretly started to
redress the unjust cases and gradually recover the reputation and income of those punished by mistake.
Till now, over 900 policemen had been rehabilitated.

Li Zhuang:
"What is Li Zhuang's case? It is, when they were making
achievements to attract the world's attention and applause,
Li Zhuang entered into their plot. Li said, Of course,
this plot was not set up for me to expose.
Their aim was prestige, attention, performance,
which are political purposes, economic purposes."
Li said, Bo Xilai and Wang Lijun arrested a lot of private
entrepreneurs, whose huge wealth was confiscated,
This was to serve Bo's political purposes;
The rest of the money was used to win people over
such as the constructors of a luxury restaurant,
offering suits to policemen and so on.
Li Zhuang: "Like Chen Mingliang, Li Qiang, Peng Zhimin,
Guan Chuan, Li Jun, each have tens of millions of yuan.
One had auctioned a piece of land
at 100 billion yuan.
A Chongqing Finance Bureau official revealed to me
privately that he had received 930 million yuan.
So they had confiscated 30 billion from this triad leader,
90 billion from that leader.
Where did the money go? The Finance Bureau only
received 930 million yuan, less than 1 billion."
Li Zhuang refuted reports of the Chinese Communist
Party mouthpiece Phoenix television that
he was not interrogated by torture,
but had confessed in the circumstances.
He explained that authorities really did not torture him,
but that he wanted to be released soon by pleading guilty.
Li Zhuang: "Go to find the wife of Gong Gangmo,
there were photos hidden below a bathroom basin,
which can prove that the police were at the scene."
He said that Wang and Bo had agreed to release him before
the Chinese New Year if he admitted guilt in the first trial.
But in the second trial, he was told that his statement
was false, then the sentence was changed to 1.5 years.
So in court, he had exposed
the unknown truth of Bo Xilai's father.
Li Zhuang: "In 1936, 61 CCP members all had written
statements to renounce the CCP in Kuomintang prison in Caoliang, Beijing.
And the first one was Bo Yibo. You can go and see.
The bailiff then pulled me out, not letting me say it!"
In summing up, Li Zhuang said, singing red songs is only
a fig leaf or a shield, blocking doubts towards Bo Xilai.
If Bo had been successful and had gotten to reign,
the consequences would have been terrible.
Li Zhuang: "One third of you here may be beheaded,
anyone with money is in danger."
Media reports said that Bo Xilai's case in focus
will be on trial in August or September.
Li Zhuang said he had to look at the published
evidence then, it being too early to talk now.
In an interview with Hong Kong media, he once said,
Bo's crime is even bigger than that of former
Minister of Railways director Liu Zhijun,
because Bo was not only corrupt,
he had also implemented fascist tyranny in Chongqing for many years.
Li Zhuang also said that after 18th NPC, the secretary of
Central Political and Law Committee did not enter the
Standing Committee, and his powers were weakened.
Li Zhuang: "I have met secretaries of Politics and Law
Committee in many provinces.
They can for once have the final say on behalf of the
police department, Procuratorate, and court.
Now if you go to them, they will say sorry, Mr. Li, we could
not send orders, but only are in charge of coordination."

After three years of extensive training, Li won his first national championship for the Beijing Wushu Team. Jet Li was selected by the government to represent the country in over 45 countries by performing martial arts at various state functions. The most famous, in terms of history, was his 1974 performance at the Rose Garden of the White House for President Richard Nixon, after he had just reopened American diplomatic relations with China. For the next five years (1974-1979), he remained the All-Around National Wushu Champion of China.
Shortly after retiring from the sport at the age of 17, his film career kicked off with director Chang Hsin Yen and Shaolin Temple. Today his film credits include Lethal Weapon 4 opposite Mel Gibson, Romeo Must Die, The One, Kiss of the Dragon, and Hero. Li's upcoming release is Tou Ming Zhuang (known in English as The Warlords) with Andy Lau and Takeshi Kaneshiro. He most recently wrapped photography on The Mummy 3: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.

The blast took place at an apartment block at 08:00 local time (00:00 GMT) in Liucheng county, said state media.
Seventeen separate parcel explosions hit Liucheng on Wednesday.
Earlier reports said a suspect, believed to have been behind the bombs, had been arrested. But local media now say he has only been identified.
The cause for Thursday's blast was not clear, and no casualties have been reported. It is also not know if the blast is connected to the multiple explosions on Wednesday.
Thursday's fresh explosion took place at a six-storey building in a residential area. Xinhua news agency said the force of the blast had caused debris to rain down on a road opposite the building.
Local police issued a statement calling on the public to be wary of accepting parcels sent by strangers or packages "sent by non-proper channels".
The local postal service has halted all deliveries until Saturday.
The parcel bombs on Wednesday targeted a prison, a train station, a hospital and a shopping centre among other locations.
State media said besides the seven dead, another two people remained missing and 51 people were injured in afternoon's blasts.

Interview with Stefan Hell, Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry, Göttingen, Germany:
Professor Stefan Hell is director at the Max Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry and head of the department of NanoBiophotonics in Goettingen and widely considered as the father of super-resolution. His inventions of 4Pi and STED microscopy were turned into the first commercial super-resolution microscopes available by Leica Microsystems in 2004 and 2007. Doing his PhD at Heidelberg Instruments which was later purchased by Leica Microsystems, he had the feeling that the only remaining interesting problem of light microscopy was the diffraction barrier. He was convinced, that there was a way to overcome this barrier and never gave up despite all the hardship of convincing people that breaking the diffraction barrier is really possible. His motivation to do this was curiosity and the conviction that there must be a physical way. However, he always knew that if he succeeded, this was going to be important. The first super-resolution image after his theoretical work naturally gave him pleasure and satisfaction. His personal relationship to the developers of Leica Microsystems from his time as a PhD student facilitated a lot the collaboration with the company for the development of the commercial 4Pi and STED microscopes. "That was a relationship of trust and understanding." He remembers the moment, when Leica's R&D; department had made the conscious decision about developing super-resolution because they had realized that in the end resolution is the most important property of a microscope. "I think, Leica was the first company to recognize that", remembers Hell. Future opportunities for super-resolutions techniques, he sees in the development of suitable fluorophores that allow different state transitions which is key to any current super-resolution technology. Naturally the most important application field for super-resolution is life science, but in his opinion there is also potential in material sciences. Former Beijing criminal lawyer Li Zhuang
was convicted by Chongqing authorities
to 18 months imprisonment for
"inducing witnesses to perjure by eye blinking."
According to China's Criminal Code, article 306,
in criminal lawsuits, defenders/legal representatives
shall be sentenced up to 3-year in prison
if they are found to destroy, forge evidence
or help a litigant do so, or intimidate
or induce the litigant to change testimony.
Guangxi rights lawyer Yang Zaixin was attacked
for defending rights activists, Falun Gong
practitioners and victims of forced demolition.
He was a defense counsel of a criminal case last year.
He said that he videotaped the whole process
in his research with the witnesses. In the court later,
in front of the prosecutor, the victim and the judge,
the witness said exactly the same as
what he found in the research.
A few months ago the witness was arrested by police,
and his family was questioned. A short while ago,
Guangxi police said that Yang Zaixin was wanted
for providing false evidence.
Yang Zaixin: "It is now happening to me.
I have now prepared the clothes, tooth brushes, etc.
In case I am jailed. I carry them with me. I have
to face such persecution, endure the hardship."
Yang Zaixin has soon handed in all of his evidences
or videos to his law firm and asked fellow lawyers
to try rescue him in case he got arrested.
Yang Zaixin: "It's terrifying, it is hard for the court
to carry out an unbiased trial because to be unbiased
both prosecutors and defenders need to present
evidences to the table and the judge can then rule
accordingly. But now lawyers are often arrested,
especially rights lawyers, for gathering evidences."
Yang Zaixin noted that if lawyers themselves were
afraid of collecting evidences to benefit the litigant,
the interests of all Chinese people would suffer.
Yang: "We believe what the authorities did was
in the interests of some individuals or a small group,
but it has destroyed Chinese lawyers'
sense of justice and responsibility.
Ruining China's lawyer system equates to
ruining its legal system,
and so are the overall interests of Chinese people."
Hundreds of lawyers have been imprisoned
in China for the so-called ''perjury'' since 1997.

Overseas media recently reported on the difficulties
to work as a criminal lawyer in China.
NTD reporters took a few phone interviews
with Chinese criminal lawyers who might be
at a risk of becoming the next Li Zhuang.
How are such Chinese lawyers being treated?
New York Times reported on May 6 the 3 difficulties
a Chinese criminal lawyer has, i.e., meeting litigants,
collecting evidences and checking existing evidences.
Now there is a fourth: being a criminal lawyer.
New issues were raised after the Li Zhuang's case,
such as lawyers' immunity in evidence collection.

Born in Beijing, Jet Li began studying wushu (the Chinese term for martial arts) at the age of 8. After three years of extensive training, Li won his first national championship for the Beijing Wushu Team. Jet Li was selected by the government to represent the country in over 45 countries by performing martial arts at various state functions. The most famous, in terms of history, was his 1974 performance at the Rose Garden of the White House for President Richard Nixon, after he had just reopened American diplomatic relations with China. For the next five years (1974-1979), he remained the All-Around National Wushu Champion of China.
Shortly after retiring from the sport at the age of 17, his film career kicked off with director Chang Hsin Yen and Shaolin Temple. Today his film credits include Lethal Weapon 4 opposite Mel Gibson, Romeo Must Die, The One, Kiss of the Dragon, and Hero. Li's upcoming release is Tou Ming Zhuang (known in English as The Warlords) with Andy Lau and Takeshi Kaneshiro. He most recently wrapped photography on The Mummy 3: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.
Li is a Red Cross ambassador and founded the One Foundation, a Chinese-based organization whose goal is to develop China's nascent philanthropy industry. One of the main program areas is to help young people cope with mental well-being and find a balance in life.

水势越来越大，多一步就到顶了，我叮嘱孩子仰起呼吸，保姆已经喝水了，再一个浪过来，保姆和小女就被水冲走了。于是大声呼喊"救命救命"。当时我们下榻的是"四季酒店"，很多员工都认识我，听到我呼救后都拼命冲进水里把我的小女救起来。然后我抱着大女艰难 回到岸边。非常的近了，水再高一点，我就没了。
海啸退了后，当时那里200来人，大家不分国籍，信仰，都互相竭力帮助彼此。所以我说 ，如果我经历这样还能平安无事，那我就应该重新改变我的生活了。因为李连杰已经死过一 次了，接下来要做的就是把爱带到世间，为人类尽力而为的做一些事，所以我创建"壹基金 "。
AR：你个人非常信奉藏传佛教，在中国信奉它是否容易？谈下您对西藏问题的看法？
李：很多西藏名人都是我老师，我不方便说他们的名字。他们是我的老师，但是不意味着我认同他们的政治观点。我觉得最主要的是我个人没有什么政治立场，但我确实觉得中国、西藏、台湾应该统一。放眼心胸，全球都是一个大家庭。所以当谈到台湾问题，谈到西藏问题，我的回答是，你不需要听我的看法，你问联合国，有多少国家认可台湾是中国的一部分，多少国家认可西藏是中国的一部分。这个不需要我李连杰说什么的，联合国已经说的很明白 了。
AR：你曾经会见过达赖喇嘛，你怎么看他的？
李： 2000 年我见过他，在宗教信仰方面我非常尊崇他的观点，他的确是上师。不久我接到一个他身边的人打来的电话说：达赖想知道你对北京申办08年奥运会的看法。 2000年的时候是在，这个故事我是第一次讲的。我说，想想看，北京是为了想展示一次盛大的体育盛会奥林匹克运动会给全球，你为什么反对呢？你不想北京有这个机会？然后我就说了我的想法：如果你告诉世人你想展示的是爱心，你是转世活佛，你知道你在做什么。我记得几个月之后，我听说达赖告诉他的一些支持者和朋友，叫他们停止，停止反对北京申办奥运会。我说，你不要反对，你应该支持北京。他确实停止了反对，他做了。
AR：阿杰，你现在是中国片酬最高的演员了，真难以置信你在那么多方面都能取得骄人成 绩。
李：我交很多税的。
