Hong Kong skyline is nothing short of amazing, and it's best admired at Victoria Peak.
The city has more buildings above 100m and 150m than any other city in the world.
Hong Kong also holds the title for the world's biggest skyline with a total of 7,681 skyscrapers, placing it ahead of New York City, even though New York is larger in area.

Standing at 552 metres above sea level, the Peak is the highest mountain on Hong Kong Island and a natural signaling post for incoming cargo ships in the nineteenth century. The more privileged early residents, however, found it the perfect retreat from Hong Kong scorching summer heat.
Sedan chair
Governor Sir Richard MacDonnell's summer home (circa 1868) was built there to take advantage of the cooler but humid climes. Soon other wealthy residents followed suit. Many of them traversed up and down the steep Peak paths by sedan chair, which were carried by their personal staff of uniformed bearers. From 1904, the Peak was designated an exclusive residential area reserved only for expatriates although this practice ended in 1947.
Further development of the Peak did not really occur until Alexander Findlay Smith, who had worked for Scotland's Highland Railway, managed to petition the Governor, Sir John Pope-Hennessy, in 1881 to operate tram routes. One of them connected the south of Murray Barracks to Victoria Gap on the Peak. The Peak had attracted its prestigious residents since the 19th century.
The Peak Hotel
Mr. Findlay Smith was hoping the tram route would increase visitor traffic and boost business at the erstwhile Peak Hotel, which opened eight years earlier in 1873 on land he owned. Unfortunately, the hotel was destroyed in a fire in 1938.
With a regular and reliable form of public transportation now available, the Peak quickly became renowned for its spectacular views of the city and the harbour. Today, the Peak attracts some seven million visitors a year, making it one of Hong Kong's top tourist destinations.

We were in Hong Kong. After taking the Star Ferry from Kowloon side to Hong Kong side, we found the bus stop to take Citybus 15 that would bring us up to Victoria Peak. The bus ride would take between 40 min and 1 hour, depending on traffic. This was the cheapest (or most cost effective) way to get up to Victoria peak. You could take the peak tram but that would be much more expensive. Peak tram one-way will cost HK$28 per adult.

Victoria Peak
Victoria Peak (Chinese: 太平山, or previously Chinese: 扯旗山) is a mountain in the western half of Hong Kong Island. It is also known as Mount Austin, and locally as The Peak. With an elevation of 552 m (1,811 ft), it is the highest mountain on Hong Kong island, ranked 31 in terms of elevation in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (Tai Mo Shan is the highest point in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region with an elevation of 957 m).
The summit is occupied by a radio telecommunications facility and is closed to the public. However, the surrounding area of public parks and high-value residential land is the area that is normally meant by the name The Peak. It is a major tourist attraction that offers views over Central, Victoria Harbour, Lamma Island and the surrounding islands.
History
As early as 19th century, the Peak attracted prominent European residents because of its panoramic view over the city and its temperate climate compared to the sub-tropical climate in the rest of Hong Kong. The sixth Governor of Hong Kong, Sir Richard MacDonnell had a summer residence built on the Peak circa 1868. Those that built houses named them whimsically, such as The Eyrie, and the Austin Arms. O melhor local para se admirar a espantosa selva urbana de Hong Kong é no topo de Victoria Peak, o maciço rochoso que está no centro da ilha.
A subida tradicional é feita através do Peak Tram, um funicular com uma alucinante inclinação máxima de 48%, cuja construção data de 1888!
Lá em cima, vários motivos de interesse, de entre os quais saliento uma caminhada pelo Victoria Peak trail, um passeio agradável com vistas inacreditáveis, que circunda o topo rochoso.

Standing at 552 metres above sea level, the Peak is the highest mountain on Hong Kong Island and a natural signaling post for incoming cargo ships in the nineteenth century. The more privileged early residents, however, found it the perfect retreat from Hong Kong scorching summer heat.
Sedan chair
Governor Sir Richard MacDonnell's summer home (circa 1868) was built there to take advantage of the cooler but humid climes. Soon other wealthy residents followed suit. Many of them traversed up and down the steep Peak paths by sedan chair, which were carried by their personal staff of uniformed bearers. From 1904, the Peak was designated an exclusive residential area reserved only for expatriates although this practice ended in 1947.
Further development of the Peak did not really occur until Alexander Findlay Smith, who had worked for Scotland's Highland Railway, managed to petition the Governor, Sir John Pope-Hennessy, in 1881 to operate tram routes. One of them connected the south of Murray Barracks to Victoria Gap on the Peak. The Peak had attracted its prestigious residents since the 19th century.
The Peak Hotel
Mr. Findlay Smith was hoping the tram route would increase visitor traffic and boost business at the erstwhile Peak Hotel, which opened eight years earlier in 1873 on land he owned. Unfortunately, the hotel was destroyed in a fire in 1938.
With a regular and reliable form of public transportation now available, the Peak quickly became renowned for its spectacular views of the city and the harbour. Today, the Peak attracts some seven million visitors a year, making it one of Hong Kong's top tourist destinations.

If you want to make sure you get the best views of Hong Kong, head to Victoria about a 2 hours before sunset. That will give you time to get up the mountain to enjoy the sunset as well as the neon lights lights of Hong Kong harbor that light up after dark! There are several ways to get to the top of Victoria Peak. You can hike (up a TON of stairs), you can ride a local bus to the top, or you can take the peak tram. The following is a list of the top things to do in Hong Kong:
1) Avenue of Stars at Night in Kowloon (星光大道)
Wandering around Avenue of Stars at night is the perfect way to experience Hong Kong in the evening. Overlooking Victoria Harbour, this area has been modeled after the Hollywood Walk of Fame championing all of the celebrities involved in the Hong Kong entertainment industry. None is more famous than the Bruce Lee statue. This is also the perfect place to watch A Symphony of Lights laser show which happens daily at 8 pm.
2) Afternoon High Tea at the Peninsula
Sitting down for afternoon tea at the Peninsula is one of the more posh activities in Hong Kong. Expect to wait in line (we waited over 2 hours) for a table. You can get complete sets which include assorted finger food along with a drink. This is definitely not a budget activity.
3) Views of Hong Kong from Victoria Peak and Tram Ride (太平山)
Taking a tram ride up to Victoria Peak to experience the best vantage point of Hong Kong, Kowloon and Victoria Harbor is one of the top attractions in the city. Many come at night; however, we recommend coming in the afternoon on a weekday when you can enjoy having more personal space.
4) Star Ferry boat ride (天星小輪)
There are many different modes of transportation in Hong Kong; however, none are quite as authentic of an experience as taking Star Ferry from Hong Kong Island to Kowloon or vice versa. It's one of the cheapest ways to get around.
5) Junk Boat Ride
Taking a Junk boat ride around Victoria harbor offers some of the best views of the city. It's especially popular at night to take in A Symphony of Lights performance.
6) Hong Kong Park and Tea Appreciation Ceremony (香港公園)
To get away from all of the hustle and bustle check out Hong Kong Park for a tranquil escape. If you have time participate in a Chinese tea appreciation ceremony.
7) Sampan Boat Tour in Aberdeen (舢舨)
Taking a ride on a traditional Sampan boat allows you to experience what life is like for Chinese fishermen.
8) Eating Dim Sum (點心 - 点心)
One should not leave Hong Kong without first trying dim sum. These small sized bites are treats that are accompanied by a pot of Chinese tea.
9) Taking a night bus tour of Hong Kong Island and Kowloon
Taking a night bus tour allows you to visit distinct areas in both Hong Kong Island and Kowloon such as Mong Kok and Causeway Bay.

From the fascinating attractions in both cities to the amazing local eats we really packed in a lot over a short period of time. Some of the top highlights included eating dim sum, taking boat rides, viewing the symphony of lights, eating Macanese street food, frequenting casinos and marveling at the views of both cities from high vantage points.

Victoria Peak offers the best views of Hong Kong harbor! If you want to make sure you get the best views of Hong Kong, head to Victoria about a 2 hours before sunset. That will give you time to get up the mountain to enjoy the sunset as well as the neon lights lights of Hong Kong harbor that light up after dark!
There are several ways to get to the top of Victoria Peak. You can hike (up a TON of stairs), you can ride a local bus to the top, or you can take the peak tram. The Peak Tram is the most expensive way to get to the top of the mountain, but it's also the most expensive! We took the local bus to the top of Victoria, and we really enjoyed the views of Hong Kong Island on the way the to the top.
This sunset was actually captured from the Mcdonalds that's inside the mall on top of the Peak, and the views from the Harbor were captured from the Lion's Pavilion.

We took a PAL flight to Hong Kong. Tickets were purchased on their 75th anniversary last March. Accommodation is through AirBnB. Airport to Yau Ma Tei: Take the A21 Bus from the airport. Pay around HK $33. We got off at Man Ming Lane station, 9th stop from the airport. First night, we at this traditional noodle house at Mongkok. 2nd Day (Victoria Peak): We took the train from Yau Ma Tei station to Central station exit J2. From Central station, you have to walk up to the Peak Tram, there will be blue signs on the streets going to the Peak tram station. We paid HK $88 (return tickets) per pax per adult for the train, and HK $42 (if I'm not mistaken) for child's fare. We ate at Burger King in Peak Terrace Mall, the mall where the station stops. We spent around HK $130 for 2 meals, we ...
