Irelands Territorials: The FCA. Part One.
The
FCA was
Ireland's part-time Territorial
Reserve Army from 1946-2005. This documentary was made in
1988 , when Ireland was in the midst of a very deep recession, money for
Defence and particularly Reserves was very short. At this time the establishment strength would have been in around 18,
000. Most towns would have had a recruiting centre, many young men got a chance to experience life in the Forces. Uniforms and weapons at this time were a living museum, however, the force had very high morale and a very dedicated
Officer/
NCO Corps. The economic changes in the
1990s brought huge changes and by the time of Re-Org
2005 the force had become a very motivated reserve. Those interested in the FCA can now buy a book entitled: "The FCA-A Pictorial
History"
