A video on media ownership in the U.S, but i suspect all over the west. Sumner Redstone real name is Sumner Murray Rothstein owns CBS Corporation, Viacom, MTV Networks, BET, and the film studio Paramount Pictures, and are equal partners in MovieTickets.com.. Fox news owner Rupert Murdoch also owns many papers world wide. TV, news papers are owned more and by fewer people. A concentration of news papers and media into a few people hands allows what is happening now in the west, a propaganda media that promotes only what thier agenda says to promote. Back in 1983, approximately 50 corporations controlled the vast majority of all news media in the United States. Today, ownership of the news media has been concentrated in the hands of just six incredibly powerful media corporations. These corporate behemoths control most of what we watch, hear and read every single day. They own television networks, cable channels, movie studios, newspapers, magazines, publishing houses, music labels and even many of our favorite websites. Sadly, most Americans don't even stop to think about who is feeding them the endless hours of news and entertainment that they constantly ingest. Most Americans don't really seem to care about who owns the media. But they should. The truth is that each of us is deeply influenced by the messages that are constantly being pounded into our heads by the mainstream media. The average American watches 153 hours of television a month. In fact, most Americans begin to feel physically uncomfortable if they go too long without watching or listening to something. Sadly, most Americans have become absolutely addicted to news and entertainment and the ownership of all that news and entertainment that we crave is being concentrated in fewer and fewer hands each year.
The six corporations that collectively control U.S. media today are Time Warner, Walt Disney, Viacom, Rupert Murdoch's News Corp., CBS Corporation and NBC Universal. Together, the "big six" absolutely dominate news and entertainment in the United States. But even those areas of the media that the "big six" do not completely control are becoming increasingly concentrated. For example, Clear Channel now owns over 1000 radio stations across the United States. Companies like Google, Yahoo and Microsoft are increasingly dominating the Internet.
But it is the "big six" that are the biggest concerns. When you control what Americans watch, hear and read you gain a great deal of control over what they think. They don't call it "programming" for nothing.

(c)1990 CBS Corporation
This video was all I had of a March 19, 1990 edition of CBS This Morning. Beginning the piece is a report by CBS News reporter Richard Roth depicting Louis Farrakhan's rise to prominence from his days as a musician known as Calypso Louie to his rise to leader of the Nation of Islam following the deaths of Malcolm X and Elijah Muhammad; to his heated, race-baiting rhetoric in his speeches and his linking with Jesse Jackson's 1984 and 1988 Presidential campaigns (where he was pretty much Jackson's equivalent of Jeremiah Wright during the 2008 campaign).
Following is an interview between Farrakhan and CBS This Morning host Harry Smith.
Ultimately, Farrakhan's influence waned for a time after the 1995 Million Man March before re-emerging into public notice in 2005 (with his comments suggesting Hurricane Katrina's impact through New Orleans was the result of a destroyed levee and somehow targeted toward blacks; his recent embrace of Dianetics {while denying having converted to Scientology} and his former support of President Obama {supported him in 2008 before blasting him in 2011 following the invasion in Libya -- likely because Farrakhan was a close friend of longtime Libyan strongman Muammar Gaddafi})

Public domain classic black and white television production from the CBS series "Climax!", sponsored by Chrysler Corporation. "Climax!" (later known as "Climax Mystery Theatre") aired on CBS from 1954 to 1958. A commercial introductory clip shows Chrysler's "five great cars": Plymouth, Dodge, DeSoto, Chrysler, and Imperial. This is followed by an introduction by host Wiliam Lundigan to an adaptation of "The Adventures of Huckelberry Finn", starring Thomas Mitchell, Elizabeth Patterson, John Carradine, Walter Catlett, and Charles Taylor. Lundigan is then assisted by Mary Costa in explaining a fascinating new development in car radios by Chrysler and Philco -- transistors. Finally, comedian Red Skelton is an a short skit to promote his upcoming starring role in next week's Climax! production "Public Pigeon No. 1".

Was very pleasantly surprised to find this near the end of a tape. Since this season marks the 20th anniversary of the NCAA Basketball theme on CBS, the timing couldn't have been better (in more ways than one, as it's been a while since I've put anything sports-related up)
With March Madness looming, CBS aired a doubleheader of college action on February 28 featuring Georgetown vs. Seton Hall (Big East battle) and the later game being Purdue vs. #1 Indiana (Big Ten)

(c)1991 National Football League; CBS Corporation
Here's a partial halftime report from the NFL Today following the first half of the CBS game between the New Orleans Saints and Chicago Bears.
SCORES (Finals and comments; games shown plus Bears-Saints)
Saints 10, Bears 6 (Morten Andersen had just kicked what was then tied for the 2nd longest field goal in NFL history from 60 yards out just before halftime; Bears won 20-17)
49ers 14, Eagles 7 (49ers won 23-7 in match-up of teams that ultimately went 10-6 only to miss the playoffs in a crowded NFC that year)
Falcons 21, Rams 0 (Falcons won 31-14; notable statistic was that Falcon running back Pat Chaffey's 5 yard touchdown run was the first for the “2 Legit 2 Quit” bunch on the ground that season)
Packers 13, Buccaneers 0 (Packers won this “Bay of Pigs” game 27-0)
Oilers 23, Bengals 3 (Oilers won 35-3; dropping the Bengals to 0-8)
Greg Gumbel then mentions that CBS would be carrying Game 7 of the 1991 World Series between the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves (often said to be one of, if not the, best World Series ever as well as the undisputed high point of a disaster-plagued CBS Major League Baseball coverage that was famously referred to as the Vietnam of televised sports; with Jack Morris' Twins beating John Smoltz's Braves) before going to commercial.
Commercials featured include a CBS promo for Wednesday's lineup (which included an episode of Jake and the Fatman and 48 Hours); a CBS movie promo (“Locked Up: A Mother's Rage”); a CBS ID; Ford Escort (changes for 1992); IHOP (back when it used the full “International House of Pancakes” name); a Sonny Stallings for Virginia Senate ad (uploaded separately) and a WTKR promo for George Michael's Sports Machine. After a brief return to the Superdome; ads for Upjohn (focusing on hair loss); McDonald's (McLean Deluxe); Chevy S-10 Blazer (beginning of the Like a Rock campaign); a CBS promo for Northern Exposure; a promo for the Royal Family following the death of Redd Foxx and a sponsor billboard; after which Pat Summerall and John Madden recap the first half

Thurman (26-0, 22 KOs), of Clearwater, Fla., and Porter (26-1-1, 16 KOs), of Las Vegas by way of Akron, Ohio, are both coming off superb 2015 campaigns that solidified the fresh faces among the elite of arguably boxing's most exciting division. With perennial pound-for-pound champion Floyd Mayweather now retired, the 27-year-old Thurman and the 28-year-old Porter are hungry to stake their claim as the future of boxing.

In this candid discussion with Initiative's Kris Magel, David will share how he (and CBS) are working with advertisers to make a more effective use of TV and to directly show ROI on that effectiveness. We'll hear how media companies are working to better understand consumer behavior and provide advertisers with insights to better reach their target audiences.
CBS's David Poltrack is one of the most respected executives in media. He is no stranger to the world of Videonomics: Poltrack oversees all research operations at CBS encompassing audience measurement, market research, program testing, advertising research, and monitoring of the national and international video marketplace.
But the 40 year veteran has not rested on his laurels; CBS has brought new measurement and research abilities to create more comprehensive evaluation tools for its media. This can be seen in CBS's January deal with Rentrak which aims to combine viewing data with product purchase data.

NBC's popular show "Medium" is based on the life of a real medium, Allison DuBois, and Dr. Gary Schwartz (The Afterlife Experiments) has subjected her powers to rigorous scientific testing. Listen as Whitley Strieber explores the "Medium" with Gary Schwartz. Then Linda Moulton Howe reports on the stunning finding that apparent human footprints discovered in Mexico are actually 1.3 million years old.
Medium is an American television drama series that premiered on NBC on January 3, 2005, ending its run on that network on June 1, 2009. The series then moved to CBS on September 25, 2009, airing its final episode overall on January 21, 2011.
Themed on supernatural gifts, its lead character, Allison DuBois (played by Patricia Arquette), is a medium employed as a consultant for the Phoenix, Arizona district attorney's office. Allison and her husband Joe (Jake Weber) are the parents of three daughters, all of whom inherited Allison's gift. The show was initially based on the experiences of medium Allison DuBois, who claims she has worked with law enforcement agencies across the country in criminal investigations.
Medium was created by Glenn Gordon Caron and was produced by his company Picturemaker Productions and Kelsey Grammer's Grammnet Productions in association with Paramount Television from 2005--06, CBS Paramount Television from 2006--09 (after the split of Viacom and CBS Corporation), and finally CBS Television Studios from 2009 until the series ended.
The series aired on NBC during its first five seasons before switching to CBS for the sixth and seventh seasons. The production division of CBS had assumed production of Medium in 2006 after absorbing the television arm of the Paramount Pictures film studio. Paramount's home entertainment arm still held DVD distribution rights in conjunction with CBS DVD.
On December 21, 2010, CBS announced that the show had been canceled after seven seasons. The series finale aired exactly a month later.

In the first public exposure of its landmark study, CBS reveals a Cross-Media Receptivity Model that holds great promise for helping advertisers optimize their media buys within and across all media starting today.
The Media Receptivity Landscape is a segmentation of consumers with regard to their media consumption preferences (Segments, Need States, and Media Content Palates) based on Nielsen TV, Online, Nielsen IAG and Nielsen Catalina information.
By mapping Advertisers' core prospects defined by attitudinal and behavioral demand, not just demographics, learn how the efficiency and effectiveness of advertising can be enhanced immediately.

Star Trek Gadgets and Technology Documentary | Fact or Myth | Geographic TV.
Star Trek is a 2009 American science fiction action film directed by J. J. Abrams, written by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman and distributed by Paramount Pictures. It is the eleventh film of the Star Trek film franchise and is also a reboot that features the main characters of the original Star Trek television series, portrayed by a new cast and the first in the reboot series. The film follows James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) and Spock (Zachary Quinto) aboard the USS Enterprise as they combat Nero (Eric Bana), a Romulan from their future who threatens the United Federation of Planets. The story takes place in an alternate reality[3][4] due to time travel by both Nero and the original Spock (Leonard Nimoy). The alternate timeline was created in an effort to free the film and the franchise from established continuity constraints while simultaneously preserving original story elements.
Development for Star Trek originated in 1968, when creator Gene Roddenberry announced plans to produce a prequel modeled after the television series. The concept resurfaced temporarily in the late 1980s, when it was postulated by Harve Bennett as a possible plotline for the movie that would become Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, but was rejected in lieu of other projects by Roddenberry. Following the critical and commercial failure of Star Trek: Nemesis and the cancellation of the television series Star Trek: Enterprise, franchise executive producer Rick Berman and screenwriter Erik Jendresen wrote an unproduced film, titled Star Trek: The Beginning, which would take place after Enterprise. After the split between Viacom and CBS Corporation, former Paramount president Gail Berman convinced CBS to produce a feature film. Orci and Kurtzman, both fans of the Star Trek series, were approached to write the film and Abrams was approached to direct it. Kurtzman and Orci used inspiration from novels and graduate school dissertations as well as the series itself.
Principal photography commenced on November 7, 2007 and ended on March 27, 2008. The film was shot in various locations around California and Utah. Abrams wanted to avoid using bluescreen and greenscreen, opting to use sets and locations instead. Heavy secrecy surrounded the film's production and was under the fake working title Corporate Headquarters. Industrial Light & Magic used digital ships for the film, as opposed to the previous films in the franchise. Production for the film concluded by the end of 2008.
Star Trek was heavily promoted the months preceding its release; pre-release screenings for the film premiered in select cities around the world including Austin, Texas; Sydney, Australia; and Calgary, Alberta. It was released in the United States and Canada on May 8, 2009, to positive reviews. Critics praised the character development as well as the storyline in the film. Star Trek became a box office success, grossing over $385.7 million worldwide. It was nominated for several awards, including four Academy Awards at the 82nd Academy Awards, ultimately winning in the category for Best Makeup, making it the first Star Trek film to win an Academy Award. The DVD and Blu-ray for the film were released on November 17, 2009. Following the success of the film, its cast members signed on for two sequels, making Star Trek the first of a planned trilogy. A sequel, Star Trek Into Darkness, was released on May 16, 2013 with Abrams returning as director and Orci and Kurtzman returning as screenwriters (with the addition of Star Trek producer Damon Lindelof as screenwriter). A second sequel, Star Trek Beyond, is scheduled to be released on July 8, 2016.[5]

Terrytoons was a studio in New Rochelle, New York that produced animated cartoons for theatrical release from 1917 - 1971. Terrytoons was founded by Paul Terry and operated out of the "K" Building in downtown New Rochelle. The studio created many cartoon characters including Heckle and Jeckle, Mighty Mouse, Gandy Goose, Sourpuss, Dinky Duck and Luno. The "New Terrytoons" period of the late 1950s through early 1970s produced such characters as Hector Heathcote, Hashimoto and Deputy Dawg as well as The Mighty Heroes. Ralph Bakshi got his start as an animator, and eventually as a director, at Terrytoons.[1] Terrytoons were originally released to theaters by 20th Century Fox. The Terrytoons library was later purchased by the CBS Corporation.

Discovery: how media lies documentary film - CNN CBS FOX NEWS channel distorted contents
This eye opening long documentary film elaborates on the discovery of American media lies by comparing how news are delivered to the US population and to other countries around the world. The film provides a striking comparison of U.S. and international media coverage of the crisis in the ME zeroing in on how structural distortions in U.S. coverage have reinforced false perceptions of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict for example. This pivotal documentary exposes how the foreign policy interests of American political elites--oil, and a need to have a secure military base in the region, among others--work in combination with lsraeIi public relations strategies to exercise a powerful influence over how news from the region is reported. Through the voices of scholars, media critics, peace activists, religious figures, and Middle East experts, the documentary carefully analyzes and explains how--through the use of language, framing and context--the lsraeIi occupation of the West Bank and Gaza remains hidden in the news media, and lsraeIi colonization of the occupied terrorities appears to be a defensive move rather than an offensive one. The documentary also explores the ways that U.S. journalists, for reasons ranging from intimidation to a lack of thorough investigation, have become complicit in carrying out lsraeI's PR campaign. At its core, the documentary raises questions about the ethics and role of journalism, and the relationship between media and politics.

MAYWEATHER VS. CANELO - ranked as the highest-grossing pay-per-view of all time, with nearly $150 million in U.S. pay-per-view revenue reported to date. The news was announced today by Showtime Networks Inc., a division of CBS Corporation (NYSE: CBS.A and CBS), in conjunction with event promoters Mayweather Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions.
