In a year in which YouTube helped revolutionize Internet video, its no surprise that the site's founders - and many of its stars - were among this year's Webby recipients.
And with time limits virtually unheard of on the web, host Rob Corddrey took the opportunity to keep the evening's speakers in line.
[Notes:SOT ROB CORDDREY]
IF YOU GO OVER FIVE WORDS, I HAVE FULL AUTHORITY TO KICK YOU IN THE BALLS. (Beeped)
Apparently that was enough to keep YouTube co-founders Steve Chen and Chad Hurley tight lipped when they accepted the award for Webby Person of the Year.
[Notes:UPSOUND STEVE CHEN, CHAD HURLEY]
YOUTUBERS, THIS IS FOR YOU.
David Bowie, the recipient of the lifetime achievement award had a difficult time adhering to Courddrey's demands, but he did his best.
[Notes:SOT BOWIE. (jokes about only being allowed a five word acceptance speech)]
Actress Jessica Lee Rose, better known as "LonelyGirl15" for her video diary posts on YouTube was the recipient of Best Actress Webby.
[Notes:SOT JESSICA LEE ROSE:]
"I REALLY DIDN'T THINK IT WOULD BE ANYTHING AT ALL WHEN I FIRST STARTED DOING IT AND NOW IT'S BECOME SUCH A BIG DEAL AND I'M JUST COMPLETELY FLABBERGASTED AT HOW BIG IT'S GOT."
Other awards went to the Beastie Boys for Webby Artist of the Year and Best Viral Video went to the creators of the Diet Coke and Mentos experiment video, Fritz Grobe and Steven Voltz.

John Safran (Chair)
Chris Munro was the Managing Editor of Tracker Magazine, Australia's most read Aboriginal Affairs publication which was shut down in 2014. Prior to this he was the Political Editor for the National Indigenous Television news team based at Parliament House and a reporter for the National Indigenous Times newspaper. Chris currently works as a freelance journalist.
As an investigative journalist, Eric Schlosser continues to explore subjects ignored by the mainstream media and gives a voice to people at the margins of society. He’s followed the harvest with migrant farm workers in California, spent time with meatpacking workers in Texas and Colorado, told the stories of marijuana growers and pornographers and victims of violent crime, gone on duty with the NYPD Bomb Squad, and visited prisons throughout the US. Schlosser’s first book, Fast Food Nation (2001), helped start a revolution in how Americans think about what they eat. His second book, Reefer Madness (2003), looked at America’s thriving underground economy. Both were New York Times bestsellers. His most recent book, Command and Control (2013), examines the efforts of the military, since the atomic era began during World War II, to prevent nuclear weapons from being stolen, sabotaged, or detonated by accident. Command and Control was a New York Times Notable Book, a Time Magazine Top 10 Nonfiction Book, was a finalist for the 2014 Pulitzer Prize (History) and also received the Gold Medal Award (Nonfiction) from the 2013 California Book Awards.
Debbie Kilroy was imprisoned for drug trafficking in 1989 for 6 years. She was stabbed and witnessed the only murder inside an Australian women’s prison, and lost almost everything: her marriage, her home and her children. After her release in 1992, she established Sisters Inside, which advocates for the human rights of women in the criminal injustice system. Sisters Inside has won international acclaim for its work and for a unique structure which ensures it is driven by women inside prison. Debbie was awarded the OAM for services to the community for working with women in prison 2003 and in 2004 she was awarded the National Human Rights Medal. She has a degree in social work and is a qualified gestalt therapist. Debbie was the first person in Australian who has serious convictions to be admitted by the Supreme Court of Queensland to practice law in 2007.
John Safran (chair) is an award-winning documentary-maker of provocative and hilarious takes on race, the media, religion and other issues.

Alain de Botton, FRSL (born 20 December 1969) is a Swiss writer, philosopher, television presenter and entrepreneur, resident in the United Kingdom. His books and television programmes discuss various contemporary subjects and themes, emphasizing philosophy's relevance to everyday life. At 23, he published Essays In Love (1993), which went on to sell two million copies. Other bestsellers include How Proust Can Change Your Life (1997), Status Anxiety (2004) and The Architecture Of Happiness (2006). In August 2008, he was a founding member of a new educational establishment in central London called The School of Life. In May 2009, he was a founding member of a new architectural organization called "Living Architecture". In October that year, de Botton was appointed an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects, in recognition of his services to architecture. In 2011, de Botton was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature (FRSL)
The School of Life is a social enterprise founded in 2008 and based in a small shop in Central London. The School offers a variety of programmes and services concerned with how to live wisely and well, addressing such questions as why work is often unfulfilling, why relationships can be so challenging, why it's ever harder to stay calm and what one could do to try to change the world for the better. The School also offers psychotherapy and bibliotherapy services and runs a small shop which has been described as 'an apothecary for the mind'.
The School of Life is not affiliated to any religious, educational, charitable or other organisations. It declares itself a place 'free from dogma', where participants are 'directed towards a variety of ideas - from philosophy to literature, psychology to the visual arts -- that tickle, exercise and expand your mind' and where participants can 'meet other curious, sociable and open-minded people in an atmosphere of exploration and enjoyment'.
Krista Tippett (née Weedman, born November 9, 1960) is a broadcaster, journalist, and author. She is best known for creating and hosting the public radio program On Being (formerly Speaking of Faith), distributed and produced by American Public Media. The program is currently broadcast on more than 200 public radio stations in the United States and globally via NPR Worldwide, its website, and its podcast. Tippett's first book, Speaking of Faith — Why Religion Matters and How to Talk about It, was published In 2008. Of the book, the author Elizabeth Gilbert wrote, "Her intelligence is like a salve for all who have been wounded or marginalized by the God Wars
On Being (also known as Krista Tippett on Being, formerly known as Speaking of Faith with Krista Tippett) is a weekly public radio program about "religion, meaning, ethics, and ideas", produced by American Public Media. Initially launched as a monthly broadcast in 2001 with Minnesota Public Radio, the program became a national weekly broadcast in 2003 airing on NPR stations across the United States. Operating from a neutral position, the program explores the relationship between religion and the human experience around the world.
Speaking of Faith was awarded its first Webby Award in 2005—the first public radio program to win the juried prize—and a second in 2008. That same year, the program was given a George Foster Peabody Award for its radio and online production of "The Ecstatic Faith of Rumi" in 2007. Tippett believes that "what most Americans want, whether they are religious or not, is for the religious voice in our public life to be more constructive—to reflect the capacity religion has to nourish lives and communities." The radio program also spawned the book Speaking of Faith — Why Religion Matters and How to Talk about It. Written by Tippett, it was published in 2007.
A School of Life for Atheists [06.09.2012]
Alain de Botton is a philosopher who likes the best of religion, but doesn't believe in God. So he's created "The School of Life," a secular community in London. He explains why wisdom and ritual shouldn't be reserved just for believers.
The School of Life was founded by philosopher Alain de Botton, with the help of Sophie Howarth, a former curator of Tate Modern, in collaboration with a number of writers, artists and educators. It is currently staffed by Morgwn Rimel (Director), Harriet Warden, Caroline Brimmer and Angharad Davies. The faculty includes philosophers Mark Vernon, Robert Rowland Smith and Nigel Warburton, writers Tom Hodgkinson, Charles Fernyhough, John-Paul Flintoff, Catherine Blyth and Rebecca Abrams. Ambassadors for the project include Alain de Botton, photographer Martin Parr, psychotherapist Brett Kahr, journalist Rosie Boycott and publishers Patrick Walsh, Toby Mundy and Simon Prosser.

Edward John "Eddie" Izzard[5] (/ˈɪzɑːd/; born February 7, 1962) is an English stand-up comedian, actor, and writer. His comedic style takes the form of rambling, whimsical monologue, and self-referential pantomime. He had a starring role in the television series The Riches as Wayne Malloy and has appeared in films such as Ocean's Twelve, Ocean's Thirteen, Mystery Men, Shadow of the Vampire, The Cat's Meow, Across the Universe, and Valkyrie. He has also worked as a voice actor in The Wild (2006), Igor (2008), The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (2008), and Cars 2 (2011).
Izzard has cited his main comedy role model as Monty Python, and John Cleese once referred to him as the "Lost Python".[1] In 2009, he completed 43 marathons in 51 days for Sport Relief despite having no prior history of long-distance running.[6] He has won numerous awards including a Primetime Emmy Award for Individual Performance in a Variety or Music Program for his comedy special Dress to Kill, in 2000. Izzard's website won the Yahoo People's Choice Award[7] and earned the Webby Award.[8]
On 6 September 2012, Izzard presented the medals to the athletes who had won the 800m T54 race at the London 2012 Paralympic Games. In 2013, Eddie Izzard embarked on a world tour entitled Force Majeure, with dates that run through 2015.[9]
Dress to Kill is the title of a performance by Eddie Izzard, and is a continuation of the British comedian's surrealist, ideas-based comedy. The VHS was recorded during a performance in San Francisco, California, United States. However, the tour was a global one. During this tour Izzard also wrote the book Dress to Kill with David Quantick (photographs by Steve Double), which was published by Virgin Books in hardback in 1998 and in paperback in 2000.
Izzard's humour includes observations on the American concept of history, beginning with his throwaway line "I grew up in Europe, where the history comes from" and continuing through diversions about the belief that all Europeans live in castles ("we just long for a bungalow or something") and the attitude of Americans toward historical landmarks. Additionally, Izzard takes time to explain his background as an executive transvestite and how it affected his desire to join the military. This is explained through a proposal for the Army's "first battalion transvestite brigade...with fantastic makeup and a fantastic gun."
The centerpiece of the performance is a retelling of British history from Stonehenge through to the Reformation. This is done with Izzard adopting a very Italian accent (and miming riding on a Vespa) to signify the Pope talking to Henry VIII ("who is Sean Connery for this film") and explaining that he can't marry as many wives as he wants to. This is set against the backdrop of Martin Luther pinning his 95 Theses on the door of Wittenberg Cathedral, a paper that reads "Eine Minuten bitte. Ich habe einen kleinen Problemo avec diese Religione." "He was from everywhere," explains Izzard to great cheers from the audience. Similar to his use of Sean Connery as the voice of Henry VIII, he uses the voice of James Mason as the voice of God.
Izzard, a self-proclaimed film buff, also describes the plot of The Great Escape in somewhat manic fashion. He is particularly fond of Steve McQueen's role in the film, and goes to great lengths to explain how inaccurate his escape through Central Europe actually is ("within fifteen minutes he's on the borders of Switzerland. This is from Poland! And if you don't know the geography, it goes Poland, Czechoslovakia, Holland, Venezuela, Africa, Beirut, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, and then Switzerland.").
Diversions are also made in relation to the Heimlich maneuver and the American Dream, while the performance ends with Izzard re-telling the story of how he didn't lose his virginity. An encore is then performed, featuring Izzard delivering the plot of the film Speed in French and explaining how his schoolboy French serves him in France itself.
One of Izzard's most well-known routines was performed during Dress To Kill: a satirical depiction of Church of England fundamentalism, wherein Izzard explains how Church of England fundamentalism would be impossible because people would be shouting out "You must have tea and cake with the vicar or you DIE!" and "CAKE OR DEATH?!" The latter phrase has become so well known that it is now the name of an Eddie Izzard fansite and has inspired a Christian website called Anglican Memes for those who "like gentle fun being poked at the church but are not interested in church-bashing or posting anything offensive."

Fred Rogers on Children's Television: Quotes, Education, History, Life, Legacy (1990)

Fred McFeely Rogers (March 20, 1928 – February 27, 2003) was an American television personality, educator, Presbyterian minister, composer, songwriter, author, and activist. Rogers was most famous for creating, hosting, and composing the theme music for the educational preschool television series Mister Rogers' Neighborhood (1968–2001), which featured his gentle, soft-spoken personality and directness to his audiences.[1]
Initially educated to be a minister, Rogers was displeased with the way television addressed children and made an effort to change this when he began to write for and perform on local Pittsburgh-area shows dedicated to youth. WQED developed his own show in 1968 and it was distributed nationwide by Eastern Educational Television Network. Over the course of three decades on television, Fred Rogers became an indelible American icon of children's entertainment and education, as well as a symbol of compassion, patience, and morality.[2] He was also known for his advocacy of various public causes. His testimony before a lower court in favor of fair use recording of television shows to play at another time (now known as time shifting) was cited in a U.S. Supreme Court decision on the Betamax case, and he gave now-famous testimony to a U.S. Senate committee, advocating government funding for children's television.[3]
Rogers received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, some forty honorary degrees,[4] and a Peabody Award. He was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame, was recognized by two Congressional resolutions, and was ranked No. 35 among TV Guide's Fifty Greatest TV Stars of All Time.[5] Several buildings and artworks in Pennsylvania are dedicated to his memory, and the Smithsonian Institution displays one of his trademark sweaters as a "Treasure of American History".
Rogers was born in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, 40 miles (65 km) southeast of Pittsburgh, to James and Nancy Rogers; he had one sister, Elaine.[6] Early in life he spent much of his free time with his maternal grandfather, Fred McFeely, who had an interest in music. He would often sing along as his mother would play the piano and he himself began playing at five.[4]
Rogers graduated from Latrobe High School (1946).[7] He studied at Dartmouth College (1946–48),[8] then transferred to Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida, where he earned a B.A. in Music Composition in 1951.[9] Rogers was also a trained general aviation pilot. [10]
At Rollins, he met Sara Joanne Byrd, an Oakland, Florida native; they married on June 9, 1952.[11] They had two sons, James (b. 1959) and John (b. 1961).[12] In 1963, Rogers graduated from Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and was ordained a minister in the United Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A..
Rogers had an apartment in New York City and a summer home on Nantucket island in Massachusetts.[12][13] Rogers was red–green color blind,[14] swam every morning, and neither smoked nor drank.[15] He was a vegetarian on ethical grounds, stating "I don't want to eat anything that has a mother."[16] Despite recurring rumors, he never served in the military.[17][18][19]
His office at WQED Pittsburgh famously did not have a desk, only sofa chairs, because Rogers thought a desk was "too much of a barrier".

Shirley Maclaine – During the sixties roles in ʻThe Apartmentʼ and ʻGambitʼ garnered a swag of Academy Award nominations but it wasnʼt until ʻSweet Charityʼ in 1969 that she got to showcase her ability as an all-round performer. After winning an Oscar for ʻTerms of Endearmentʼ, she went on to star in comedies such as ʻSteel
Magnoliasʼ, ʻIn her Shoesʼ and ʻRumor Has Itʼ, about a woman who thinks her family were the inspiration for The Graduate.
Mira Sorvino – Even though her father discouraged her from going into acting, Mira Sorvino knew from an early age that she was destined for a career in films. The Harvard graduate has since certainly proved her talent in tackling a wide diversity of roles, including an Oscar winning turn in Woody Allenʼs ʻMighty Aphroditeʼ.
Lisa Kudrow – It was her role as ditsy Phoebe in ʻFriendsʼ that made Lisa Kudrow a star, the show lasting nine seasons and making her and her cast-mates the highest paid sitcom actors in Hollywood, and netting her an Emmy Award in the process. Since the show finished she has become the most successful of her ʻFriendsʼ costars, in making the transition to film.
Courtney Cox- Arquette – Well known both for her role as Monica in ʻFriendsʼ, Courtney embarked on a film career while on a break from the popular sitcom to star in ʻScreamʼ and its sequels, where she met her husband David Arquette. Since winding up ʻFriendsʼ, Courtney and her husband David have been working on an independent film called ʻNovemberʼ, with a budget a fraction of the size of her Friends salary.
Jennifer Tilly – She may have made a career out of playing breathless bimbos in movies like ʻLiar Liarʼ with Jim Carrey, but Jennifer Tilly is no fool. She proved it by outfoxing 600 other women in the Third Annual Ladiesʼ Poker Championship hosted by Las Vegas in 2005. A year later, she was back to defend her title.
