Newark Liberty International Airport (IATA: EWR, ICAO: KEWR, FAA LID: EWR), originally Newark Metropolitan Airport and later Newark International Airport, straddles the municipal boundary between Newark and Elizabeth, New Jersey. The airport is owned by the city of Newark and leased to and operated by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. The airport is about 15 miles (24 km) southwest of Midtown Manhattan (New York City). Newark Airport was the first major airport in the United States and through 2013 was the New York-New Jersey metropolitan area's busiest in terms of flights.
The airports in the New York metropolitan area combine to create the largest airport system in the United States, the second-largest in the world in terms of passenger traffic and largest in the world in terms of total flight operations. In 2014 Newark Airport handled 35.6 million passengers, JFK handled 53.3 million and LaGuardia handled 27 million.
Newark serves 50 carriers and is the third-largest hub for United Airlines (after Chicago–O'Hare and Houston–Intercontinental), which is the airport's largest tenant (operating in all of Terminal C and part of Terminal A). Newark's second-largest tenant is FedEx Express, whose third-largest cargo hub uses three buildings on two million square feet of airport property. During the 12-month period ending in July 2014, over 68% of all passengers at the airport were carried by United Airlines.
An international airport is an airport that offers customs and immigration facilities for passengers travelling between countries. International airports are typically larger than domestic airports and often feature longer runways and facilities to accommodate the heavier aircraft commonly used for international and intercontinental travel. International airports often also host domestic flights. Some, such as Frankfurt Airport in Germany are very large; others such as Fa'a'ā International Airport in Tahiti, are quite small.
Buildings, operations and management have become increasingly sophisticated since the mid 20th century, when international airports began to provide infrastructure for international civilian flights. Detailed technical standards have been developed to ensure safety and common coding systems implemented to provide global consistency. The physical structures that serve millions of individual passengers and flights are among the most complex and interconnected in the world. By the second decade of the 21st century, there were over 1,200 international airports and almost two billion international passengers along with 50 million metric tonnes of cargo were passing through them annually.
Intu Properties plc, formerly Capital Shopping Centres Group plc, is a British Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT), largely focused on shopping centre management and development. Originally named Liberty International plc, it changed its name in May 2010 to that of its major subsidiary, Capital Shopping Centres, after demerging its Capital & Counties Properties business unit to form an independent business. The company owns or part-owns 18 shopping centres in the UK and one in Spain. The firm's shares are listed on the London and Johannesburg stock exchanges and it is a constituent of the FTSE 100 Index.
The company renamed itself as Intu Properties plc on 18 February 2013, which was followed by the rebrand of the majority of its shopping centres under the "Intu" name from May 2013.
The company was established by Sir Donald Gordon in 1980 under the name of Transatlantic Insurance Holdings plc as an offshoot Liberty Life Association of Africa, a business he had founded in 1957. The Company developed into a leading investor in life assurance businesses in the 1980s and divested its remaining life assurance interests (a 29% holding in Sun Life) in 1991. In 1992 it merged with Capital & Counties, a leading shopping centre developer, so securing itself a listing on the London Stock Exchange. It changed its name to Liberty International in 1996 and, after demerging Capital & Counties Properties in May 2010, renamed itself Capital Shopping Centres Group.
Newark commonly refers to
Newark may also refer to:
An airport is an aerodrome with facilities for flights to take off and land. Airports often have facilities to store and maintain aircraft, and a control tower. An airport consists of a landing area, which comprises an aerially accessible open space including at least one operationally active surface such as a runway for a plane to take off or a helipad, and often includes adjacent utility buildings such as control towers, hangars and terminals. Larger airports may have fixed base operator services, airport aprons, air traffic control centres, passenger facilities such as restaurants and lounges, and emergency services.
An airport with a helipad for rotorcraft but no runway is called a heliport. An airport for use by seaplanes and amphibious aircraft is called a seaplane base. Such a base typically includes a stretch of open water for takeoffs and landings, and seaplane docks for tying-up.
An international airport has additional facilities for customs and immigration.
In warfare, airports can become the focus of intense fighting, for example the Battle of Tripoli Airport or the Battle for Donetsk Airport, both taking place in 2014. An airport primarily for military use is called an airbase or air station.

Welcome to the final video of the road trip to New York City! In the first portion of this video we are passing by Newark Liberty Airport, just off to our left on the NJ Turnpike. Then further along we have views off to our right of the Manhattan skyline; afterward, we show us entering and traveling through the Lincoln Tunnel into Midtown Manhattan! This was United 1965, direct service from Orlando KMCO on April 3rd, 2016. Winds were gusting close to 50 mph and we were delayed at MCO for 2 hours. Runway 29 was in use at Newark. The pilot made a firm touchdown just as required. After we left the plane, I asked the pilot and he said they used the autobrake 3 setting which would account for the very quick deceleration. Props to the crew for the awesome landing.

At Akron-Canton Airport, we have two exceptional ways to get to New York, both American Airlines to LaGuardia and United Airlines to Newark. Once you arrive in Newark, you'll get off the plane in terminal B. Exit the jet bridge and look for signs to the AirTrain. The AirTrain will connect you to the New Jersey Transit which you'll use to get into the city. Form this concourse, AirTrain is past security and to your right. (1 Apr 2017) Dozens of puppies took over part of Newark Liberty International Airport on Saturday, part of their training to one day become guide dogs for the blind. The Labradors, German Shepherds and retrievers walked around the terminal, rode escalators and even boarded a United Airlines plane. Trainers say the airport is one of the more complicated places a guide dog can be required to go. Once the dogs complete their training they will live with a foster family for about two years before being put into service.
