Brian's brief chronological list of "highlights" (and of whinging)
- Traveled back to
Bled... the pension where we were staying provided bikes so we rode to
Vintgar Gorge. The bike ride went for over an hour going uphill, we were then rewarded with 1.6km of walking along a gorge... yay! It was really pretty.
-
Ride back only took 20 mins which was great. Had a look around
Lake Bled which was also very pretty.
- Had a mixed grilled platter of meat which was really nice and filling... consisted of 4 types of meat plus a schnitzel each!

Version
This morning we headed to the markets across the bridge to get some fruit and pastries for breakfast. Brian loved it when the locals would give me some change and say "walla", thinking they were magical
.. But really they were saying "hvala" or thank you in
Slovene.. So we ate our breakfast back at the hostel before checking out and heading to the bus station.
The bus to Bled comes every hour, on the hour, so we made the 10am one after getting a bit lost with which bus was which.
Once we reached our stop, we followed the crowd to get off as we had no idea if we had the right stop or not since there were no signs and we couldn't see Lake Bled from where we were.
Anyway, it was the right stop, so we walked a few minutes to our Pension and dropped our bags off. I had planned to go to Vintgar Gorge as we only had 2 days in Bled, but the tourist bus to get there had already left for the day, so the other alternatives was to hike it or bike it..
Since the pension had free bikes that we could use, we decided to ride out to Vintgar Gorge. Man, the ride was so painful and we had no idea where we were going half the time to get there. Brian was trying to follow the signs, rather than the map, and I later found that he went the long, long way round.. No wonder we were on the road most of the time! I even fell off the bike as Brian braked suddenly in front of me.. Now I'm sporting a few bruises on my right leg..
Thanks, hon..
Once we reached the Gorge, we paid our entrance fee and walked along the 1.6km of boarded path.. The colour of the water was absolutely amazing. It was a gorgeous emerald green and also so clear that you can see right to the bottom, including all the rocks and fish that were in the water..
We took our time here as we didn't like the prospect of riding back, but did know that after the first section of heading up the hill, the rest of the way would all be downhill - much easier than the ride in!
So we pushed our bikes back up the hill and saw a
sign pointing to Bled, which was not the way we had ridden in..
Taking our chances that this one would be a shortcut, we decided to take it.
Lo and behold, the ride back only took us about
20 minutes. We went through a small village and cycled by a long stretch of straight road between green fields to get back to the lake..
After consulting my
Lonely Planet guide, Linner that night was at Ostarija Peglez'n, which was just down the road from our Pension.. We ordered the fish soup and a mixed grill to share.. The soup was fantastic, my mouth is watering just thinking about it! As for the mixed grill, it was pretty much meat, meat and more meat..
We went for a short stroll later on around a small section of the lake, the
Island was on the other side, in the distance, so the photographs didn't do it justice.."
