Michael John Cloete Crawford "Mike" Rutherford (born 2 October 1950) is an English musician. He is a founding member of Genesis and one of the band's only two original members (the other is keyboardist Tony Banks). He used his full name Michael Rutherford in credits on all the group's albums with Peter Gabriel.
Initially serving as Genesis' bass guitarist and backing vocalist, Rutherford also performed most of the band's rhythm guitar parts - frequently on twelve-string guitar - in collaboration with successive Genesis lead guitarists Anthony Phillips and Steve Hackett. Following Hackett's departure from Genesis in 1977, Rutherford assumed the additional role of lead guitarist on the band's studio albums (beginning with ...And Then There Were Three... in 1978). Rutherford was one of the main Genesis songwriters throughout their career and wrote the lyrics for some of the band's biggest international hits, such as "Follow You Follow Me", "Turn It On Again", "Land of Confusion" and "Throwing It All Away". He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Genesis in 2010.
The Mechanics (1977–1981) are considered to be the first punk band to come out of Fullerton, California.
The Mechanics were a fusion of two bands, the L.A. Brats (Scott, Dennis, Brett and Sandy, which also featured John Crawford, future Berlin bassist) and Head Over Heels' songwriter and guitarist, Tim Racca. Head Over Heels also featured Danny Furious (O'Brien: pre-Joan Jett) and Greg Westermark before they formed punk legends The Avengers.
Since there was no "punk metal" classification at the time, The Mechanics headlined bills with bands as diverse as Fear and The Runaways, and metal groups featuring future Mötley Crüe members Tommy Lee and Mick Mars, George Lynch of Dokken, Matt Sorum of Guns N' Roses, and Snow featuring Carlos Cavazo. Included among their fan base were Blackie Lawless, Jeff Dahl and members of Van Halen.
They are now remembered mostly by Orange County musicians who watched them in their teens like Mike Ness, Dennis Danell, and Rikk Agnew. Though they released only one 45 rpm single during their existence, their songs turned up on other's records, namely The Adolescents ('Frustrated' from Balboa Fun Zone) and The Avengers (their Dangerhouse single 'Car Crash' is a reworking of The Mechanics 'Warm Hollywood Welcome'). A copy of their rare 45' (only 500 were pressed) sold in 2009 for $348.00 on EBay.
Mike is an abbreviation or shorthand for Michael.

Smallcreep's Day is Peter Currell Brown's only novel and was first published by Victor Gollancz Ltd in 1965. The story is a surreal satire on modern industrial life. The novel was written while the author worked at R A Lister and Company in Dursley, Gloucestershire.
The central character Pinquean Smallcreep works in the slotting section of a vast and labyrinthine factory and has done so for years. He becomes curious about the purpose of the pulley that he puts the slots in and one day, having become obsessed by an idea, leaves his machine and goes exploring through the strange world of his factory. On a quest to find meaning in his monotonous existence, Smallcreep experiences many surreal and disturbing situations. Each scene explores some of the author’s ideas about human relationships, freedom and the value of human life. Some of the scenes are hilarious, some depressing and some macabre. The final two pages are taken up with a powerful vision of the futility of factory work and a passionate cry for the lost dignity of the craftsman.

Genres: Action, Comedy, Fantasy, Horror,Smallcreep's Day is the 1st solo album by Genesis bassist and guitarist Mike Rutherford. It was released in 1980 ~ The title suite is based on the dark, surrealist novel of the same name by Peter Currell Brown, adapted by Mike to have a happy ending ツ This will go down as one of the most underrated albums in history. SMALLCREEP'S DAY Smallcreep had worked for over forty years in the factory. Till one day, tired of drilling holes in the same piece of steel and amazed at his fellow workers' lack of interest as to what they were making, he decided to find out for himself. The plant was so large that he roamed for days glimpsing other worlds that were completely different to his; and not one knew of another's existence. At last he came to the end of the line and there before him lay the...
Every generation Blames the one before And all of their frustrations Come beating on your door I know that I'm a prisoner To all my Father held so dear I know that I'm a hostage To all his hopes and fears I just wish I could have told him in the living years Crumpled bits of paper Filled with imperfect thought Stilted conversations I'm afraid that's all we've got You say you just don't see it He says it's perfect sense You just can't get agreement In this present tense We all talk a different language Talking in defence Say it loud, say it clear You can listen as well as you hear It's too late when we die To admit we don't see eye to eye So we open up a quarrel Between the present and the past We only sacrifice the future It's the bitterness that lasts So Don't yield to the for...

What Captain William Rutherford told his seven-year-old son Michael was to stay with him all his life. Born in 1950, Michael was truly his father's son, even serving in the naval section of the student cadet corps at one of England's top public schools, Charterhouse. Mike's future lay in the civil service: it was a subject that he discussed with his father at Captain Crawford's gentlemen's club. But then something happened. Mike discovered rock music. As one of the founder members of Genesis, Mike was to tour the world and achi...

Mike Rutherford - Calling All Stations // Genesis - Bio From album "Calling All Stations" - 1997. Genesis: (Peter Gabriel), (Steve Hackett), (Phil Collins), Tony Banks, Mike Rutherford. Vocal: Ray Wilson. Calling all stations Can anybody tell me, tell me exactly where I am I've lost all sense of direction Watching the darkness closing around me Feeling the cold all through my body That's why I'm calling all stations In the hope that someone hears me A single lonely voice I feel the sensation disappearing There's a tingling in my arms And there's a numbness in my hands All the broken promises All my good intentions don't add up to very much And I realise whatever happened, whatever happened I remember all the moments that I've wasted in my life All the things I was always...

Thanks for stopping by, PLEASE SUBSCRIBE/SHARE/COMMENT!!! I did not write or originally record this song. The other night as I was searching on my iPad for a new song to play at a gig, the chorus of this tune came into my head. Great tune by a great band...also got me on a Paul Carrack (vocalist in the band) kick-go check him out; fantastic talent and discography. This video is of my second time playing the song, flubbed a lyric or two, but so be it; that's live music. I shot it with an umbrella stand-mounted GoPro and captured audio with an M-Audio MicroTrack II. Speaking of live music, if you're ever in Baltimore-come down to Phillips Seafood (http://www.phillipsseafood.com/locations-and-menus/baltimore) in the inner harbor and get great food, drink and service while listening to some...

Anthony Phillips was a founding member of Genesis at Charterhouse School with Peter Gabriel, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford. His musical influence was felt strongly on the albums "From Genesis to Revelation" and "Trespass" and lingered after his departure from the group in 1970. As a solo artist his albums such as "Geese and the Ghost", "Wise After the Event", "Sides" and "1984" all earned him a loyal following. In part one of this two part Cherry Red TV interview, possibly one of the most in depth he has done, he discusses his time with Genesis and his long solo career as a recording artist and composer.
