Another of the Kochs’ projects surfaced in Texas, as the state’s Republican lawmakers rammed through a Koch-backed bill that would make it harder for consumers, workers, and small business owners to bring civil suits against corporations. House Bill 274 - dubbed the “Loser Pays” bill - passed the state House with no amendments and no debate after Gov. Rick Perry (R) deemed it “emergency legislation,” rushing it to the top of the legislative agenda. Under the bill, those who sue corporations could be held responsible for the defendants’ legal fees if they lose the case - and in some instances, even if they win. - Alternet

54% of Republicans want to repeal all of Obamacare despite lack of health insurance causing some 45,000 deaths a year

Bloomberg - A 21 percent cut across the board would take about $15 billion from education. A 21 percent cut in Pell Grants would take almost $5 billion from student tuition.

A 21 percent cut at the National Institutes of Health would take about $6 billion from health research.

A 21 percent cut would take $400 million from police.

Center for Budget Policy & Priorities - A 21 percent cut in K-12 education funding would take more than $8 billion out of this area in fiscal year 2011, on top of the deep education cuts that many state and local governments across the country are being forced to make.

Meg Whitman's plan to eliminate the capital gains tax would widen the state's budget deficit by about $5 billion, and for what? One winner would be Whitman, who would save $8-41 million during a four year term as governor.

GOP Kentucky senatorial candidate Ron Paul would like to replace the national income tax with a sales tax. To accomplish this would take about a 23% sales tax. That would be on top of state sales tax and would be a massive giveaway to the rich. For example, in California, Meg Whitman would gain hundreds of thousands of dollars while those in the bottom 20% would have to pay several thousand dollars more a year.

We have to raise money for people and help them raise money." Boehner was forced to stop handed out the checks when two freshmen Republicans, "appalled by it," confronted him and voiced their displeasure. Michelle Bachmann is taking all of this Iran business very seriously. After the British embassy in Tehran was stormed on Tuesday and nations like the UK and France started drawing down their diplomatic presences there, Bachmann took to the stump to suggest America do the same. Except? The United States doesn’t have an embassy in Iran. And we haven’t had one for years now. For so long, in fact, there hasn’t been a US embassy in Iran for the entire lifetime of every single one of Bachmann’s twenty-eight children. But sure, let’s shut it down a second time just for good measure.- Wonkette

Michele Bachman would end individual taxes: Fox News host Megyn Kelly asked Bachmann about a question at a previous Republican debate on how much of every dollar taxpayers should get to keep. Bachmann said that she talked to the young man who asked the question at the last debate. “I said ‘I wish I could have answered that question, because I want to tell you what my answer is. I think you earned every dollar, you should get to keep every dollar that you earned,’” Bachmann said. “That’s your money, that’s not the government’s money, that’s the whole point.”

Legal question: Can someone who claims they submissively follow the orders of their husband and someone they identify only as "The Lord" serve as president under the Constitution?

The Regent Law School Review provides an insight into Bachmann's view on law - and history: "Regent University Law Review seeks to present academically excellent scholarship on relevant issues facing the legal community today from the perspective of a historic Christian worldview. Mike Tipping, Bangor Daily News, ME - At a speech to a conservative audience in Falmouth last week, Governor Paul LePage made a statement that is deeply revealing.

“About 47% of able-bodied people in the state of Maine don’t work,” said LePage.

Currently, around 65% of Mainers over the age of 15 are working or are unemployed and actively seeking work. Of the remaining 35%, almost all are retired, are caring for children or other family members, are pursuing education or training or have a disability that prevents them from working. The law, which passed with overwhelming majorities in the House and Senate, required unwed moms who wished to put their babies up for adoptions to post details about their recent sexual encounters in the newspaper in an attempt to contact the father, even if the woman was a victim of rape or incest. The purpose of the bill was to inform estranged biological fathers that their children were being adopted and give them the chance to intervene.

One of the favorite things of the left is to use your sentimentality, and your proper understanding and belief that we are stewards of this earth and we have a responsibility to hand off a beautiful earth to the next generation. They use that and they have used it in the past to try to scare you into supporting radical ideas on the environment. They tried it with this idea, this politicization of science called man-made global warming. President Obama, you may remember, tried to pass cap-and-trade and tried to get control not only of the health care system but of the energy industry, the manufacturing industry, another two big sectors of this economy, and using this facade of man-made global warming. I stood up and fought against those things. Why? because they will destroy the very foundation of prosperity in our country.- Rick Santorum

Rick Santorum argued that single mothers were the “political base” of the Democratic Party, and that Republicans should work to lessen single motherhood in order to score political points against their Democratic rivals. Sarah Palin thinks Sputnik brought the Russian economy down. In an interview she said, ""Yeah, they won but they also incurred so much debt at the time that it resulted in the inevitable collapse of the Soviet Union," As Talking Points Memo notes, "While the Soviet Union did eventually collapse, that wasn't until 1991 -- a full 22 years after the U.S. put a man on the moon, and the collapse came amid stagnant economic growth after years of unsustainable Soviet defense spending of which its space program was a relatively small part."

GOP Kentucky senatorial candidate Ron Paul would like to replace the national income tax with a sales tax. To accomplish this would take about a 23% sales tax. Contradictions in sworn statements about Rick Perry's fundraising for his 2006 reelection bid raise questions about whether aides to the Texas governor... gave false or misleading testimony under oath. At issue were the circumstances surrounding a $1 million contribution to the campaign, and whether the Republican Governors' Association, which paid out the funds, was used as a conduit to camouflage their true origin.

Perry thinks gays are like alcoholics: In a little-noticed passage in his first book, “On My Honor,” a encomium on the Boy Scouts published in 2008, Perry drew a parallel between homosexuality and alcoholism. “Even if an alcoholic is powerless over alcohol once it enters his body, he still makes a choice to drink,” he wrote. “And, even if someone is attracted to a person of the same sex, he or she still makes a choice to engage in sexual activity with someone of the same gender.”

Who said Rick Perry isn't a federalist? From the Texas Statesman: "Three days after fires started to burn in Central Texas, Gov. Perry said the firefighters could use heavy equipment such as bulldozers to clear fire breaks. 'It’s more difficult than it should be,”he said. “When you have people hurting, when lives are in danger, I don’t care who owns the asset.'"

Texans don't like the government interfering with their business, especially campaign donations, where state laws allow contributors to fork over unlimited cash. Wisconsin's prisons had 22,156 inmates at the end of April 2015—roughly twice as many as Minnesota’s, even though the two states’ total populations are about the same.

As you’d imagine, keeping all those people in prison doesn’t come cheap. The state spends more on prisons than it does on the University of Wisconsin system.

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) said that he supports a constitutional amendment banning nationwide marriage equality... "I personally believe that marriage is between one man and one woman," said Walker, a prospective GOP presidential candidate, on ABC's "This Week." Walker’s truth-tested statements have received the “Pants on Fire” designation ten times, along with thirty-eight statements rated “False” and twenty “Mostly False.” That’s sixty-eight ratings on the false side of the ledger, compared to forty-six statements deemed “True” or “Mostly True,” with twenty-five “Half True” ratings in the middle.
