Anti-Narcotic police arrested drug smugglers with 70 Kg drugs that were hidden in a truck.
One smuggler was killed and three were injured during the police operation.
Iran's drug combat squads have seized more than 115 metric Tons of illicit drugs in 10 months of operations in the Southeastern province of Sistan and Balouchestan, a provincial police commander announced on Sunday.
"We have seized over 115,000 kilograms of narcotics, including opium and opium derivatives, in the first 10 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2014 - January 2015) in Sistan and Balouchestan province," Deputy Police Commander Ali Asghar Mirshekari told reporters on Sunday.
He said that a sum of 73 drug rings have also been disbanded during the said period in the province, and added, "A sum of 10,568 traffickers have been arrested on drug-related charges in the first 10 months."
Sistan and Balouchestan province, where Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan come together, has porous borders, where bandits and drug traffickers operate despite frequent entanglements and intense efforts of the Iranian law enforcement police.
Iran has recently established a central database and strengthened police-judiciary cooperation in a new effort to combat organized crime.
Nearly 4,000 Iranian security personnel have been killed fighting drug smugglers since Iran’s 1979 Islamic Revolution.
The Iranian anti-narcotic police have always staged periodic, but short-term, operations against drug traffickers and dealers, but latest reports - which among others indicate an improved and systematic dissemination of information - reveal that the world's most forefront and dedicated anti-narcotic force (as UN drug-campaign assessments put it) have embarked on a long-term countrywide plan to intensify the crack down on the drug trade since the beginning of the current Iranian year (started on March 20).
According to official estimates, Iran's battle against drugs cost the country around $1 billion annually. Strategies pursued by Tehran include digging canals, building barriers and installing barbed wire to seal the country's borders, specially in the East.
Iran has long complained that the global community, specially the western nations, do not contribute their role in the campaign against drugs, saying that Iran is making lone efforts to block the transit of narcotics from Afghanistan to Europe and the US. Meantime, the Iranian police officials maintain that drug production in Afghanistan has undergone a 40-fold increase since the US-led invasion of the country in 2001.
While Afghanistan produced only 185 tons of opium per year under the Taliban, according to the UN statistics, since the US-led invasion, drug production has surged to 3,400 tons annually. In 2007, the opium trade reached an estimated all-time production high of 8,200 tons.

On 4 July 1986 one Iraqi MIG-29 violated Iran's space to hunt down Iran's Boeing Tankers. Two Iranian F-5 came front of it.
Captain Mohammad Zare-Nezhad locked on target in 18,000 foot but missile didn't fire, Iraqi pilot over-burned MIG-25 and tried to scape but Zare-Nezhad immediately fired by 2×20 mm (0.787 in) M39A2 Revolver cannons and hit MIG-25 over Khoy city. MIG-25 left wing was completely on fire, Zare-Nezhad says.
Iraq didn't use her valuable MIG-25 after that and three months after conflict no Iraqi fighter violated Iran's space.
There was no scramble mission after that conflict for three months, he says.
Both Iranian pilots say, F-5 capabilities is not comparable with MIG-25. Radar base officer control and managed the mission very well and F-5 pilot Zare-Nezhad locked on target while his fighter jet was very close to Iraqi MIG-25 this is why Iraqi pilot couldn't scape.

July 21, 1982 (Persian calendar 1361/4/30)
The Last Flight
Major General Abbas Doran (October 22, 1950 Shiraz, Iran 1329/7/30 - July 21, 1982 Baghdad, Iraq 1361/4/30) was an acclaimed Iranian fighter pilot and a national hero.
He flew for the Imperial Iranian Air Force (IIAF), and continued flying after the fall of the Iranian kingdom in 1979. General Doran piloted an F-4 Phantom II.
Major General Doran, known for flying the Phantom II beyond its limits, lower and faster than anybody in the Iranian Air Force, was good with the M-61A1 Vulcan gun, and had a high number of AGM-65 Maverick kills. He participated in the destruction of the Iraqi Navy during 'Operation Morvarid' in October 1980. One of his greatest values to the IRIAF was being the mission planner, because, according to the IRIAF, 90% of his missions in Iraq were successful. When Israel invaded south Lebanon in 1982, Doran was the first pilot to volunteer in case of necessary strike missions into Israel. Some of his mission plans for striking Israel are still kept secret to this day in case of a possible conflict between Iran and Israel. He is also known for writing numerous letters to the new government's heads asking them to stop executing and arresting former IIAF pilots during the time of war.
In 1982, Saddam Hussein planned to host the 7th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement in Baghdad to show that Iraq enjoyed stability during the ongoing war. The conference was scheduled to take place at Baghdad’s Al-Rashid Hotel and would have been a big blow to Iran, if Saddam Hussein were to hold it successfully. Iran tried to show that Baghdad was not safe, as the IRIAF planned to bomb Baghdad for the first time. This was the last sortie of Doran. He flew on Wednesday, July 21, 1982 at noon. Doran flew to Baghdad in an F-4E and bombed the Al-Doura refinery in Baghdad. His F-4E was then hit by a Roland 2 SAM. His weapon systems officer 'Mansour Kazemian Mahabadi' ejected from the plane and was taken prisoner. Doran knowing that was the most wanted pilot in Iraq and also the key IRIAF mission planner, he chose to die crashing his plane into the Al-Rashid Hotel. His actions caused the summit to be held in New Delhi instead of Baghdad.
After the outbreak of the Iran-Iraq War, General Doran became a hero in the IRIAF. Iraq returned Doran's remains to Iran on 21 July 2002 (Persian calendar 1381/4/30).

March 5, 2015 (Persian calendar 1393/12/14)
An Iranian diplomat kidnapped by gunmen in Yemeni capital, Sana'a, in 2013 has returned home after being released.
Nour Ahmad Nikbakht's نوراحمد نيكبخت plane landed in Tehran's Mehrabad Airport on Thursday. He was greeted by Iranian officials and his tearful relatives and family members.
Nikbakht was kidnapped on July 21, 2013, on his way to work from his home in the diplomatic quarter of Sana’a, when unidentified gunmen blocked the road, forced him out of his vehicle and abducted him.
Special efforts for Nikbakht's release
Following his arrival in Tehran, Nikbakht met Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian حسين اميرعبداللهيان, where the recently released diplomat thanked the Islamic Republic officials for their efforts to secure his safe release.
“I was kidnapped by armed terrorists on my way to the embassy from home. I was then held hostage," he said, adding, "“The officials at Foreign Ministry and Intelligence Ministry and other related organizations made great efforts [for my release]. I express my sincere gratitude to all of them.”
Amir-Abodllahian, for his part, said Iran had set up a "special committee involving all the relevant parties" to work toward Nikbakht's freedom. "The efforts led to a special taskforce established by the Islamic Republic’s Intelligence Ministry."
"Through a series of complex and arduous operations inside a restive region of Yemen Mr. Nikhbakht was freed from the clutches of the terrorists," Amir-Abdollahian added.
No terrorist demands met
Iranian Intelligence Minister Mahmoud Alavi محمود علوي told reporters at a press conference later in the day that Nikbakht’s release was secured without Iran meeting any of the preconditions set by the terrorists.
Alavi said Nikbakht’s freedom comes as “terrorist groups have taken people from various countries hostage, beheaded them, burned them alive and released the footage on the Internet while their respective countries have been unsuccessful in liberating the hostages from the grips [of the terrorists].”
Alavi added that hostage takers must know that the Islamic Republic will never give in to any demands of ransom seekers, adding that the Intelligence Ministry would safeguard the interests of the country and not allow its reputation to be tarnished.
Iran shows intelligence might
In an interview Foad Izadi فواد ايزدي, a Tehran-based political analyst from the University of Tehran, also hailed the release of the abducted diplomat, saying the move indicates the prowess of the country’s Intelligence Ministry.
He added that the successful operation could not have happened overnight and the release of the Iranian diplomat was the result of a months-long endeavor.
“This shows that Iranian organizations and government agencies are capable of conducting operations and engaging in activities that can actually result in positive outcomes," adding that such capabilities are "basically the tools of conducting business internationally.“

October 14, 2015 (Persian calendar 1394/7/22)
For the first time ever, Iranian television has broadcast footage of a secret underground tunnel, stocked with missile and launcher units. Officials have said it is one of several such bases in the Islamic republic of Iran.
Located at a depth of 500 meters (1,640 foot) or (547 Yard) under the mountains, the footage shows a very long tunnel which appears to be about 10 meters (33 foot) or (11 Yard) high. It is one of many missile bases in Iran, according to the Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh سرتيپ اميرعلي حاجي زاده, commander of the Islamic Republic's Revolutionary Guards' aerospace division.
"The Islamic republic's long-range missile bases are stationed and ready under the high mountains in all the country's provinces and cities," he said as quoted by the Guards' website.
"This is a sample of our massive missile bases," he said, adding that "A new and advanced generation of long-range liquid and solid fuel missiles" will replace the current weapons in 2016.
He issued a warning to anyone who might threaten Iran by suggesting that they had better “Have a look at the Islamic republic's army options under the table."

February 27, 2015 (Persian calendar 1393/12/8)
Building a new hi-tech submarine with the capability of launching missiles was already in February 18, 2015 news as follows:
The Iranian Navy is building a new hi-tech submarine with the capability of launching missiles and torpedo.
The submarine, named Be'sat بعثت, which is now in designing stage will be 60 meters long and has the operational power for missions in the depth of 300 meters.
Iranian military experts plan to mount 6 launchers for firing torpedoes and marine cruise missiles on the new submarine and equip the subsurface vessel with mine-laying capability.
The submarine will weigh over 1,300 tons.
In recent years, Iran has made great achievements in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems.
Iranian Army Commander Major General Ataollah Salehi announced in December that the Navy forces would launch a newly optimized submarine in the near future.
"The Navy's new subsurface vessel will be ready and launched soon to enhance the Army's power," Salehi told reporters in the Southern province of Bushehr.
"The subsurface vessel has been optimized by the Army's capable forces with the help of old and new achievements and equipment," he added.
Also in December, Salehi praised the high capabilities of Iranian Navy forces and experts, underlining that the country could overhaul and build different types of surface and subsurface vessels.
"Our capabilities are growing each day and we have managed to promote and improve what we have, thanks to Iranian experts' powerful hands," Salehi said on the sidelines of a ceremony held in the Southern province of Bushehr to display the Navy's new achievements.
"In the very near future we will witness the building, renovation and innovation of surface and subsurface vessels by the Navy," he added.
Meantime, Salehi emphasized that Iran's knowledge and capabilities to build different military tools and equipment had no message to the other world nations, but peace and friendship.

Ministry of Defense and Logistics of the Iranian Armed Forces has launched a full scale production facility for a new fully automatic 35 mm anti aircraft cannon dubbed "Samavat سماوات".
The fully automatic anti aircraft cannon is equipped with advanced radar and fire control systems and it's able to target warplanes, helicopters and various types of missiles with its short range targeting system. The anti aircraft cannon is also equipped with a modern satellite system which is able to identify aerial targets carefully and open fire on the selected target right away.
Attending the inaugural ceremony of the launch of the new 35x228 mm anti aircraft cannon system, Iran's minister of defense, Major General Mostafa Mohammad Najjar سرلشگر مصطفي محمد نجار said speed, precision and quality are three basic characteristics of the anti aircraft cannon and since countries possessing this technology refused to provide Iran with this system, Iranian experts decided to produce a prototype first and in a short period of time thereafter full scale mass production was launched.

Kowsar (or Kosar كوثر) is a short-range, land-based & missile craft anti-ship missile made by Iran. It can defeat electronic jamming systems and "cannot be thrown off course", according to Iranian officials.
The Kowsar designation apparently (Missile Defense Advocacy Alliance 2006) is used to refer to two different missiles: Iranian-produced versions of the PRC C-701 and the TL-10A.
Some news reports indicate that this was the missile used on July 14, 2006 in the 2006 Lebanon War when Hezbollah fired two at Israeli warships. One of the missiles hit the corvette INS Hanit, causing heavy damage and the deaths of four Israeli servicemen. The other missile hit an Egyptian merchant ship causing heavy damage; it is reported that all the crew survived.

Operation Morvarid (Operation Pearl عملیات مروارید) was an operation launched by the Iranian Navy and Iranian Air Force against the Iraqi Navy and Air Force on 28 November 1980 in response to Iraq positioning radar and monitoring equipment on the Al-Bakr and Khor-al-Amaya oil rigs to counter Iranian air operations. The operation resulted in a victory for Iran, which managed to destroy both oil rigs as well as much of the Iraqi Navy and inflicted significant damage to Iraqi ports and airfields.
On 28 November 1980, after Iranian technicians prepared as many aircraft and helicopters as possible, Iranian F-4 Phantoms and F-5 Tiger IIs attacked Iraqi airfields around Basra. They managed to destroy one Iraqi MiG-21 Fishbed on the ground.
During the night of 29 November, six ships of the Islamic Republic of Iran Navy's Task Force 421 deployed Iranian marines on the Iraqi oil terminals at Mina al Bakr and Khor-al-Amaya. The marines, supported by AH-1J Sea Cobras, Bell 214s and CH-47C Chinooks, gunned down most Iraqi defenders during a short firefight, then deployed a large number of bombs and mines. They were then evacuated by helicopter and left the Iraqi oil installations and early warning bases in flames.
At the same time, two Iranian Kaman class (La Combattante IIa missile boats) (Paykan and Joshan) blocked the ports of Al Faw and Umm Qasr, blocking 60 foreign ships and shelling both facilities.
In response the Iraqi Navy deployed P-6 torpedo boats and Osa II class fast-attack craft for a counter-attack. The boats engaged the two Iranian missile boats which managed to sink two Osas with Harpoon missiles. The remaining three Osa class missile boats continued to attack the missile boat Paykan. The crew of the "Paykan" called IRIAF for help which sent two F-4s (each armed with six AGM-65 Maverick missiles). By the time they arrived, however, the Paykan had been sunk after being hit by two Iraqi P-15 Termit missiles. In response, the F-4s targeted the remaining Iraqi ships and sunk three Osa IIs and four P-6s.
Soon another four Iranian F-4s arrived from Shiraz, bombed the port of Al Faw, and, together with F-5s, destroyed the surrounding Iraqi SAM sites. One Iranian F-4 was hit by an Iraqi SA-7 surface-to-air missile but managed to return to base.
Now Iranian F-14 Tomcat formations joined the battle and, together with several F-4s, covered the withdrawal of Task Force 421 and bombed the Iraqi oil rigs, destroying an Iraqi Aérospatiale Super Frelon helicopter. After this, they attacked the Mina al Bakr terminal. The Iraqis scrambled seven MiG-23 Floggers to defend the terminal. Iranian F-4s then engaged the Iraqi MiG-23MSs and downed three. One Iranian F-4 was downed during the battle. Four Iraqi MiG-23BNs attacked the Joshan, which managed to shoot two down with SA-7 missiles. Shortly after, an Iranian F-14 downed one of the two surviving MiGs, forcing the last one to flee.
The day of that naval victory 1359/9/7 (28 November 1980) is celebrated in Iran as Navy Day.

A mass number of long-range anti-warship cruise missiles dubbed ‘Ghadir قدير’ have been delivered to Iranian navy on the occasion of National Navy Day on November 28.
On the occasion of the National Navy Day on November 28, a mass number of long-range anti-warship cruise missiles dubbed ‘Ghadir’ were deployed to the navy during a ceremony attended by Iran’s Minister of Defense Hossein Dehghan and Commander of Iran's Navy Habibbollah Sayyari حبيب الله سياري.
“The anti-warship cruise missile 'Ghadir' has been designed and developed by highly-skilled and efficient Iranian scientists and experts at Aerospace Industries Organization (AIO) and has been delivered to the navy for the very first time today,” said Defense Minister Dehghan دهقان.
He went on to add that the homegrown long-range missile features great precision, high destructive power, the ability to fly at low altitudes and is equipped with highly advanced radar, as well as anti-jamming and anti-electronic warfare systems.
'Ghadir' cruise missile has a range of 300 Kilometers (186.5 Mile) or (162 Nautical Mile) and can be launched from different types of vessels, even helicopters.
“Our Armed Forces are constantly boosting their capabilities and skills to counter enemy’s potential threats by strategic monitoring of regional developments and taking any measures necessary for the country’s national security,” added Dehghan.
The defense minister noted that the world today is of the opinion that the Islamic Republic is a key player in maintaining stability, security and order in the region as well as the security situation in the world.
Commander of Iran's Navy Sayyari also asserted that the newly-developed missiles by the Ministry of Defense will greatly increase the country’s military power and missions will be carried out with more confidence.

October 19, 2015 (Persian calendar 1394/7/27)
An Iranian Navy fleet has docked at the southern Russian port city of Astrakhan in a bid to boost friendly maritime ties between the two countries.
The naval fleet, comprised of the domestically-built Damavand destroyer and two missile-armed vessels, dubbed Peykan and Joshan, anchored in Astrakhan on Thursday after three days of sailing.
The fleet aims to convey a message of peace and friendship and boost mutual cooperation aimed at maintaining security in the Caspian Sea.
The Iranian naval forces onboard the fleet plan to meet Russian commanders.
The Iranian fleet will then leave Astrakhan for the port city of Baku in Azerbaijan.
This is the first foreign mission by the Damavand destroyer. It is also the second trip of an Iranian naval fleet to Russia since 2013. Iran’s Navy sent two warships to Russia in June 2013 to consolidate maritime relations between Tehran and Moscow.
In August, two Russian warships "Volgodonsk and Mahachkala" also arrived in the northern Iranian port city of Anzali for a three-day stay with around 130 personnel on board in a bid to boost friendly maritime ties between the two countries.
Iran’s domestically-built Damavand destroyer
The state-of-the-art Damavand destroyer, equipped with modern radar, electronic and reconnaissance systems, was delivered to the Iranian naval forces stationed in Anzali in March.
In recent years, Iran has made major breakthroughs in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing important military equipment and systems.
The Iranian Navy launched its first domestically-built destroyer, Jamaran, in the Persian Gulf in February 2010. The 1,420-ton destroyer is equipped with modern radar systems and other electronic warfare capabilities. It also features highly-advanced anti-aircraft, anti-surface and anti-subsurface systems.

Plasmapheresis is the removal, treatment, and return of (components of) blood plasma from blood circulation. It is thus an extracorporeal therapy (a medical procedure performed outside the body). The method is also used during plasma donation: blood is removed from the body, blood cells and plasma are separated, the blood cells are returned while the plasma is collected and frozen to preserve it for eventual use in the manufacture of a variety of medications.
The procedure is used to treat a variety of disorders, including those of the immune system, such as Goodpasture's syndrome, myasthenia gravis, Guillain-Barré syndrome, lupus, and thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura.

September 22, 1980 (Persian calendar 1359/6/31)
Iraq launched a full-scale invasion of Iran on 22 September 1980. The Iraqi Air Force launched surprise air strikes on ten Iranian airfields with the objective of destroying the Iranian Air Force. The attack damaged some of Iran's airbase infrastructure, but failed to destroy a significant number of aircraft: the Iraqi Air Force was only able to strike in depth with a few MiG-23BN, Tu-22, and Su-20 aircraft. Three MiG-23s managed to attack Tehran, striking its airport but destroyed only a few aircraft.
The next day, Iraq launched a ground invasion of Iran along a front measuring 644 km (400 mi) in three simultaneous attacks. The invasion's purpose, according to Saddam, was to blunt the edge of Khomeini's movement and to thwart his attempts to export his Islamic revolution to Iraq and the Persian Gulf states. Saddam hoped that by annexing Khuzestan, he would send such a blow to Iran's prestige that it would lead to the new government's downfall, or, at very least, end Iran's calls for his overthrow.
Of Iraq's six divisions that were invading by ground, four were sent to Khuzestan, which was located near the border's southern end, to cut off the Arvand Roud from the rest of Iran and to establish a territorial security zone. The other two divisions invaded across the northern and central part of the border to prevent an Iranian counter-attack. Two of the four Iraqi divisions, one mechanized and one armored, operated near the southern end and began a siege of the strategically important port cities of Abadan and Khorramshahr.
The other two divisions, both armored, secured the territory bounded by the cities of Khorramshahr, Ahvaz, Susangerd, and Musian. On the central front, the Iraqis occupied Mehran, advanced towards the foothills of the Zagros Mountains, and were able to block the traditional Tehran–Baghdad invasion route by securing territory forward of Qasr-e Shirin, Iran. On the northern front, the Iraqis attempted to establish a strong defensive position opposite Suleimaniya to protect the Iraqi Kirkuk oil complex. Iraqi hopes of an uprising by the ethnic Arabs of Khuzestan failed to materialize, as most of the ethnic Arabs remained loyal to Iran. The Iraqi troops advancing into Iran in 1980 were described by Patrick Brogan as "badly led and lacking in offensive spirit". The first known chemical weapons attack by Iraq on Iran probably took place during the fighting around Susangerd.
Though the Iraqi air invasion surprised the Iranians, the Iranian air force retaliated with an attack against Iraqi military bases and infrastructure in Operation Kaman 99 (Bow 99). Groups of F-4 Phantom and F-5 Tiger fighter jets attacked targets throughout Iraq, such as oil facilities, dams, petrochemical plants, and oil refineries, and included Mosul Airbase, Baghdad, and the Kirkuk oil refinery. Iraq was taken by surprise at the strength of the retaliation, as Iran took few losses while the Iraqis took heavy defeats and economic disruptions.
The Iranian force of AH-1 Cobra helicopter gunships began attacks on the advancing Iraqi divisions, along with F-4 Phantoms armed with Maverick missiles; they destroyed numerous armored vehicles and impeded the Iraqi advance, though not completely halting it. Iran had discovered that a group of two or three low-flying F-4 Phantoms could hit targets almost anywhere in Iraq. Meanwhile, Iraqi air attacks on Iran were repulsed by Iran's F-14 Tomcat interceptor fighter jets, using Phoenix missiles, which downed a dozen of Iraq's Soviet-built fighters in the first two days of battle.
The Iranian regular military, police forces, volunteer Basij, and Revolutionary Guards all conducted their operations separately; thus, the Iraqi invading forces did not face coordinated resistance. However, on 24 September, the Iranian Navy attacked Basra, Iraq, destroying two oil terminals near the Iraqi port Faw, which reduced Iraq's ability to export oil. The Iranian ground forces (primarily consisting of the Revolutionary Guard) retreated to the cities, where they set up defenses against the invaders.
On 30 September, Iran's air force launched Operation Scorch Sword, striking and badly damaging the Osirak nuclear reactor near Baghdad.
By 1 October, Baghdad had been subjected to eight air attacks. In response, Iraq launched aerial strikes against Iranian targets.

Nowrūz (Persian: نوروز, IPA: [nouˈɾuːz], "New Day", originally "New Light") is the name of the New Year in Iranian calendars and the corresponding traditional celebrations. Nowruz is also widely referred to as the Persian New Year.
Nowruz is celebrated and observed by Iranian peoples and the related cultural continent and has spread in many other parts of the world, including parts of Central Asia, South Asia, Northwestern China, the Crimea and some groups in the Balkans.
Nowruz marks the first day of spring and the beginning of the year in Iranian calendar. It is celebrated on the day of the astronomical vernal equinox, which usually occurs on March 21 or the previous/following day depending on where it is observed. As well as being a Zoroastrian holiday and having significance amongst the Zoroastrian ancestors of modern Iranians, the same time is celebrated in parts of the South Asian sub-continent as the new year. The moment the Sun crosses the celestial equator and equalizes night and day is calculated exactly every year and Iranian families gather together to observe the rituals.
Originally being a Zoroastrian festival, and the holiest of them all, Nowruz is believed to have been invented by Zoroaster himself, although there is no clear date of origin. Since the Achaemenid era the official year has begun with the New Day when the Sun leaves the zodiac of Pisces and enters the zodiacal sign of Aries, signifying the Spring Equinox.
The Jewish festival of Purim is probably adopted from the Persian New Year. It is also a holy day for Sufis, Ismailis, Alawites, Alevis, and adherents of the Bahá'í Faith.
The term Nowruz in writing, first appeared in Persian records in the 2nd century AD, but it was also an important day during the time of the Achaemenids (c. 648-330 BC), where kings from different nations under the Persian empire used to bring gifts to the Emperor, also called King of Kings (Shahanshah), of Persia on Nowruz. The significance of Nowruz in the Achaemenid empire was such that the great Persian king Cambyses II's appointing as the king of Babylon was legitimized only after his participation in the New Year festival (Nowruz).
The UN's General Assembly in 2010 recognized the International Day of Nowruz, describing it a spring festival of Persian origin which has been celebrated for over 3,000 years. During the meeting of The Inter-governmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Heritage of the United Nations, held between 28 September -- 2 October 2009 in Abu Dhabi, Nowrūz was officially registered on the UNESCO List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity

Yalda Shabe Cheleh یلدا شب چله
Yalda (Persian: یلدا), Shab-e Yalda (Persian: شب یلدا), "Night of Birth", or Zayeshmehr (Persian: زایش مهر) "Birth of Mithra"...
Yalda Shabe Cheleh یلدا شب چله
Yalda (Persian: یلدا), Shab-e Yalda (Persian: شب یلدا), "Night of Birth", or Zayeshmehr (Persian: زایش مهر) "Birth of Mithra", or Shab-e Chelleh (Persian: شب چلّه, Azerbaijani: چیلله گئجهسی; lit. "Night of Forty") is the Persian winter solstice celebration which has been popular since ancient times. Yalda is celebrated on the Northern Hemisphere's longest night of the year, that is, on the eve of the Winter Solstice. Depending on the shift of the calendar, Yalda is celebrated on or around December 20 or 21 each year.
Yalda has a history as long as the religion of Mithraism. The Mithraists believed that this night is the night of the birth of Mithra, Persian angel of light and truth. At the morning of the longest night of the year the Mithra was born.
Following the fall of the Sassanid Empire and the subsequent rise of Islam in Persia/Iran, the religious significance of the event was lost, and like other Zoroastrian festivals, Yalda became a social occasion when family and close friends would get together. Nonetheless, the obligatory serving of fresh fruit during mid-winter is reminiscent of the ancient customs of invoking the divinities to request protection of the winter crop.
The 13th century Persian poet Sa'di wrote in his Bustan:
"The true morning will not come, until the Yalda Night is gone".
Yalda Night has been officially added to Iran's List of National Treasures in a special ceremony in 2008.
Iranian Azerbaijanis call it Chilla Gejasi, which means the beginning of the first 40 days of winter

Twenty five centuries ago, when savagery was the dominant factor in human societies, a civilized and compassionate declaration was written on clay and issued to the “four corners of the world” that dealt with important issues relevant to the rights of humans, the same issues that not only in those days but even today can inspire those who believe in human dignity and rights.
This document, known as “The Declaration of Cyrus the Great,” emphasized on the removal of all racial, national discrimination and slavery, bestowing to the people, freedom to choose their places of residence, faith and religion and giving prominence to the perpetual peace amongst the nations. This Declaration could actually be considered as a present from the Iranian people, expressed through the words of Cyrus, their political leader and the founder of the first empire in the world, to the whole humanity. In 1971, the general assembly of the United Nations recognized it as the first Declaration of Human Rights, thus, registering such an honor to the name of Iran as the cradle of this first historical attempt to establish the recognition of human rights.
