Recorded June 20, 2007.
This video is of my Glacier Discovery tour by Temsco Helicopters in Skagway, Alaska. We left all traces of civilization behind us and experienced the infinite beauty of Alaskas remote glaciers. We lifted off from the historic Skagway waterfront and headed into a rugged region of sheer mountains, majestic valleys and massive glaciers. Our landing site was the spectacular river of ice known as the Meade Glacier. After stepping off the helicopter onto Meade Glacier we were able walk around and peer into deep crevasses. After 40 minutes on the ice our helicopters returned to take us back to Skagway. Our return journey took us across Meade Glacier and then down the Lynn Canal before landing back at the Skagway waterfront.

Shot on June 20, 2007. The video begins as we watch the helicopters arrive in Skagway. We then take to the skies and fly over the many cruise ships docked in Skagway. There are towering snowcapped mountains and glaciers all around us as we fly into British Columbia, Canada. We then land on Meade Glacier. We walk around the glacier admiring the deep crevasses. Our helicopters then return for us and we fly out across the glacier and over to Lyn Canal. We then fly along the canal back to Skagway.

* Re-board your helicopter for another approximate 20-minutes of bird's eye discovery, where you will understand why Alaska is a "must see from the sky" destination.

The Chilkat River is a river in British Columbia and southeastern Alaska that flows southward from the Coast Range to the Chilkat Inlet and ultimately Lynn Canal. It is about 80 kilometres (50 mi) long. It begins at Chilkat Glacier, in Alaska, flows west and south in British Columbia for 27 kilometres (17 mi), enters Alaska and continues southwest for another 60 kilometres (37 mi). It reaches the ocean at the abandoned area of Wells, Alaska and deposits into a long delta area.
The river was named by the Russians for the Chilkat group of Tlingit, called /Ǯiɬqut/ in their own language, who lived in the region. The name means "salmon storehouse".
Near the Chilkat River is the Alaska Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve, where thousands of bald eaglesappear between October and February, to take advantage of late salmon runs. Nearby Haines, the nearest town, is the most common organization spot for birdwatchers.

This video is of my Glacier Discovery tour by Temsco Helicopters in Skagway, Alaska. We left all traces of civilization behind us and experienced the infinite beauty of Alaskas remote glaciers. We lifted off from the historic Skagway waterfront and headed into a rugged region of sheer mountains, majestic valleys and massive glaciers. Our landing site was the spectacular river of ice known as the Meade Glacier. After stepping off the helicopter onto Meade Glacier we were able walk around and peer into deep crevasses. After 40 minutes on the ice our helicopters returned to take us back to Skagway. Our return journey took us across Meade Glacier and then down the Lynn Canal before landing back at the Skagway waterfront.

* Land on your glacial destination and have the rare opportunity to explore one of Mother Nature's greatest marvels.
* Enjoy a walking exploration of the river of ice. Experienced glacier guides answer your questions and explain the awesome forces at work below your feet during your approximate 40-minutes on the glacier.
* Re-board your helicopter for another approximate 20-minutes of bird's eye discovery, where you will understand why Alaska is a "must see from the sky" destination.
* Arrive at the base and travel back to the pier and your Alaska cruise.
* Duration: Tour includes approximately 40-minutes of helicopter time and approximately 40-minutes spent on the glacier.
The Chilkat River is a river in British Columbia and southeastern Alaska that flows southward from the Coast Range to the Chilkat Inlet and ultimately Lynn Canal. It is about 80 kilometres (50 mi) long. It begins at Chilkat Glacier, in Alaska, flows west and south in British Columbia for 27 kilometres (17 mi), enters Alaska and continues southwest for another 60 kilometres (37 mi). It reaches the ocean at the abandoned area of Wells, Alaska and deposits into a long delta area.
The river was named by the Russians for the Chilkat group of Tlingit, called /Ǯiɬqut/ in their own language, who lived in the region. The name means "salmon storehouse".
Near the Chilkat River is the Alaska Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve, where thousands of bald eaglesappear between October and February, to take advantage of late salmon runs. Nearby Haines, the nearest town, is the most common organization spot for birdwatchers.

In the video couple ships get sunk. My video is created so you never have to visit the Tracy Arm Fjord glacier after seeing this slide show and videos. I have saved you 200 dollars per person. WARNING In the Holland Cruise Catalog it appears you will get to view the Sawyer Glacier. The brochure advertises Cruise to Tracy Arm and Sawyer Glacier It even shows a picture of a glacier as if you will see the glacier from the ship. It has no mention that seeing Sawyer glacier would be a option thats cost extra money. It sure appears by the brochure that you will be seeing Sawyer Glacier near Juneau. Warning to ... -

Protruding nearly 115 feet over a cliff edge, Glacier Skywalk dangles 918 feet above Sunwapta Canyon. The skywalk officially opened on May 1st, but it's been a time consuming project.
It took about 5 years just to design it and 2 years of seasonal construction to make it a reality. In order to stand on the skywalk and experience the breathtaking views, visitors must take a five-minute bus transfer from the Columbia Icefield Glacier Discovery Centre.
Guests then walk down an over 13 hundred foot long Discovery Trail cliff-edge walkway which leads them up to the Skywalk. Along that route, visitors get to witness interpretive exhibits inspired by nature.
Although local environmentalists weren't in favor of the commercial construction involving the Skywalk, the glass trail serves as an additional, subtle piece of beauty that blends effortlessly into the ecosystem.

In the Holland Cruise Catalog it appears you will get to view the Sawyer Glacier. The brochure advertises Cruise to Tracy Arm and Sawyer Glacier It even shows a picture of a glacier as if you will see the glacier from the ship. It has no mention that seeing Sawyer glacier would be a option thats cost extra money. It sure appears by the brochure that you will be seeing Sawyer Glacier near Juneau.
Warning to who ever designed the brochure, False advertising! The Captain of the ship even lied, he said over the intercom that it was too dangerous, too much ice for him to take ship up tracy arm. He has arranged a smaller boat service. I feel this is a money making trick Holland plays on ever cruise.
If you want to see the Glacier it costs 200 dollars extra for each person! and it's really not worth it, most of time the glacier and fjord Mts are covered with fog, you constantly are wet and cold on small boat. When you do get to the Glacier, the ice only breaks off once or twice a day and thats if you are lucky.
A MUCH BETTER DEAL
If you have the time in Anchorage.
A much better bargain is to sign up for the Gray line Bus Alaska 5.5 Portage Glacier tour cruise out of Anchorage and you get to see a zoo and ski resort at the same time for less 79 dollars.

Ever since I was a kid I had always dreamed of going to Alaska and eventually I made it, what inspired me? since I was four I remember I found a Pentrex video on VHS in the library that had a documentary on the Alaska Railroad I own the same video now on DVD. Ever since I was a kid I had always dreamed of going to Alaska and eventually I made it, what inspired me? since I was four I remember I found a Pentrex video on VHS in the library that had a documentary on the Alaska Railroad I own the same video now on DVD. I made it with very hard work, dedication, and a much needed vacation I made the reservation to go "North to Alaska" as the song says. Videos of the trains and the train ride are included on two different classes on the Alaska Railroad, Goldstar, for first time visitors this class of service offers a car that is a coach, dome, and a dining car all in one you also have access throughout the whole train. Then there is adventure class it's more economical, but there is a Dome car you can ride as well as a bistro car where you can grab a quick bite. Goldstar includes meals and free beverages all the way with the price of the ticket. I'd say the scenery is well worth it, perfect vacation for an entire family to enjoy.

In the summer of 2012, one of the most vital ecosystems on earth, the Greenland ice sheet, experienced a meltdown that alarmed scientists the world over. Greenland is an island encased in ice and it's the world's second largest ice sheet after Antarctica. That summer, ninety-seven percent of the surface ice melted. "Melting Point" is a comprehensive examination of this event. Videographer Snorre Wik shot the footage under tough conditions—hauling around 1,000 pounds of gear by helicopter, by SUV (on Greenland's mostly dirt roads) and out on a thinning ice sheet made treacherous by the sun. Wik improvised to get the shots he needed—lying on helicopter floors to steady his camera without a gyro-stabilized mount, or holding his DSLR by hand on the dashboard of SUVs. His efforts were both breathtaking and disturbing.
Additionally, Jens Christiansson is responsible for filming the destruction of the Watson River bridge. Marco Tedesco and his team of researchers filmed the moulins and ice cap during the record meltoff.

Under the Antarctic Ice - Beauty of The Nature
The Antarctic ice sheet is one of the two polar ice caps of the Earth. It covers about 98% of the Antarctic continent and is the largest single mass of ice on Earth. It covers an area of almost 14 million square km and contains 26.5 million cubic km of ice.[2] That is, approximately 61 percent of all fresh water on the Earth is held in the Antarctic ice sheet, an amount equivalent to 70 m of water in the world's oceans. In East Antarctica, the ice sheet rests on a major land mass, but in West Antarctica the bed can extend to more than 2,500 m below sea level. The land in this area would be seabed if the ice sheet were not there.
The icing of Antarctica began with ice-rafting from middle Eocene times about 45.5 million years ago[3] and escalated inland widely during the Eocene--Oligocene extinction event about 34 million years ago. CO2 levels were then about 760 ppm[4] and had been decreasing from earlier levels in the thousands of ppm. Carbon dioxide decrease, with a tipping point of 600 ppm, was the primary agent forcing Antarctic glaciation.[5] The glaciation was favored by an interval when the Earth's orbit favored cool summers but Oxygen isotope ratio cycle marker changes were too large to be explained by Antarctic ice-sheet growth alone indicating an ice age of some size.[6] The opening of the Drake Passage may have played a role as well[7] though models of the changes suggest declining CO2 levels to have been more important.[8]
Ice enters the sheet through precipitation as snow. This snow is then compacted to form glacier ice which moves under gravity towards the coast. Most of it is carried to the coast by fast moving ice streams. The ice then passes into the ocean, often forming vast floating ice shelves. These shelves then melt or calve off to give icebergs that eventually melt.
If the transfer of the ice from the land to the sea is balanced by snow falling back on the land then there will be no net contribution to global sea levels. A 2002 analysis of NASA satellite data from 1979--1999 showed that while overall the land ice is decreasing, areas of Antarctica where sea ice was increasing outnumbered areas of decreasing sea ice roughly 2:1.[9] The general trend shows that a warming climate in the southern hemisphere would transport more moisture to Antarctica, causing the interior ice sheets to grow, while calving events along the coast will increase, causing these areas to shrink. A 2006 paper derived from satellite data, measures changes in the gravity of the ice mass, suggests that the total amount of ice in Antarctica has begun decreasing in the past few years.[10] Another recent study compared the ice leaving the ice sheet, by measuring the ice velocity and thickness along the coast, to the amount of snow accumulation over the continent. This found that the East Antarctic Ice Sheet was in balance but the West Antarctic Ice Sheet was losing mass. This was largely due to acceleration of ice streams such as Pine Island Glacier. These results agree closely with the gravity changes.[11][12] The estimate published in November 2012 and based on the GRACE data as well as on an improved glacial isostatic adjustment model indicates that an average yearly mass loss was 69 ± 18 Gt/y from 2002 to 2010. The West Antarctic Ice Sheet was approximately in balance while the East Antarctic Ice Sheet gained mass. The mass loss was mainly concentrated along the Amundsen Sea coast.[13]
