A long time ago, when the Earth was green,
There was more kinds of animals than you've ever seen.
And they ran about and played while the Earth was being born,
And the loveliest of all was the unicorn.
There was green alligators and long-necked geese,
Some humpty backed camels and some chimpanzees.
Some cats and rats and elephants, but sure as you're born,
The loveliest of all was the unicorn.
The Lord seen some sinning and it caused Him pain.
And He said, 'Stand back, I'm going to make it rain!'
He said, 'Hey, Brother Noah, I'll tell you what to do,
Go and build me a floating zoo,'
'and take some'.......
'Green alligators and long-necked geese,
Some humpty backed camels and some chimpanzees.
Some cats and rats and elephants, but sure as you're born.
Don't you forget My unicorns.'
Old Noah was there to answer the call,
He finished up the ark just as the rain started to fall.
Then he marched in the animals two by two,
And he called out as they came through,
'Hey Lord,'
'I've got green alligators and long-necked geese,
Some humpty backed camels and some chimpanzees.
Some cats and rats and elephants, but Lord, I'm so forlorn,
I just can't find no unicorns!'
And Noah looked out through the driving rain,
Them unicorns were hiding, playing silly games.
Kicking and splashing while the rain was pourin',

Noah cried, 'Close the door because it's starting to storm,
And we just can't wait for those unicorns!'
The ark started moving, it drifted with the tide,
The unicorns looked up from the rocks and they cried.
And the waters came down and sort of floated them away,
That's why you never see unicorns to this very day.
You'll see some green alligators and long-necked geese,
Lots of humpty backed camels and some chimpanzees.
Some cats and rats and elephants, but sure as you're born,
You're never gonna see a unicorn!

This is the song that changed the lives of 5 young lads from Ireland, The Irish Rovers... and they changed the life of The Unicorn. As one of the most memorable songs in Canadian culture, it takes you back to a day when life was simpler. This video was taken at Waterfront Hall in Belfast during filming for the DVD, "Home in Ireland". This is a "Behind the Scenes" video.
On the DVD the lads are joined by special musical guests Foster and Allen, Cathal McConnell, The Gerry O'Connor Band, Patrick Davey and Morris Crum.

Dedicated to Colleen (Dabbs) Lewis (my mother) and Ruby Blampied (RubyDancingmoon's "Nan"); two wonderful ladies who we discovered both loved the classic "The Unicorn Song." The music is performed by The Brobdingnagian Bards and I have intermixed pictures to go with the music and lyrics. The main exercise for me in this production, technically speaking, was working with timing and coordination of the pictures to match the music. This is a tribute to my Irish ancestry. I was raised more "Cherokee" and sometimes I tend to forget my Irish ancestry, but ... not in this case! This was a very tricky video to create, involving some very complicated "timing" to get the images to coincide with the music... but it was GREAT fun!

The unicorn is a legendary animal from European folklore that resembles a white horse with a large, pointed, spiraling horn projecting from its forehead, and sometimes a goat's beard and cloven hooves. First mentioned by the ancient Greeks, it became the most important imaginary animal of the Middle Ages and Renaissance when it was commonly described as an extremely wild woodland creature, a symbol of purity and grace, which could only be captured by a virgin. In the encyclopedias its horn was said to have the power to render poisoned water potable and to heal sickness. Until the 19th century, belief in unicorns was widespread among historians, alchemists, writers, poets, naturalists, physicians, and theologians.[citation needed]

The Unicorn Song
Dedicated to Colleen (Dabbs) Lewis (my mother) and Ruby Blampied (RubyDancingmoon's "Nan"); two wonderful ladies who we discovered both loved the classic "The Unicorn Song." The music is performed by The Brobdingnagian Bards and I have intermixed pictures to go with the music and lyrics. The main exercise for me in this production, technically speaking, was working with timing and coordination of the pictures to match the music. This is a tribute to my Irish ancestry. I was raised more "Cherokee" and sometimes I tend to forget my Irish ancestry, but ... not in this case! This was a very tricky video to create, involving some very complicated "timing" to get the images to coincide with the music... but it was GREAT fun! -

Dedicated to Colleen (Dabbs) Lewis (my mother) and Ruby Blampied (RubyDancingmoon's "Nan"); two wonderful ladies who we discovered both loved the classic "The Unicorn Song." The ark started moving, and it drifted with the tide,
