Korean History 1/8 Ancient Joseon or Gojoseon B.C 2333-108 (고대 조선 B.C 2333-108)

Gojoseon (Hangul: 고조선; Hanja: 古朝鮮, Korean pronunciation: [kodʑosʌn]) was an ancient Korean kingdom. Go (고, 古), meaning "ancient," distinguishes it from the later Joseon Dynasty; Joseon, as it is called in contemporaneous writings, is also romanized as Chosŏn.
According to the Samguk Yusa and other medieval-era records, Gojoseon is said to have been founded in 2333 BC by Dangun, who is said to be a Posterity of Heaven.
Archaeological evidence of a Gojoseon-era civilization is found in the transition from the Jeulmun pottery to the Mumun pottery around 1500 BC, when groups of semi-sedentary small-scale agriculturalists occupied most of the Korean Peninsula. Local bronze production began around the 8th century BC. Based on contemporaneous written records, modern historians generally believe it developed from a loose federation into a kingdom between the 8th and 4th centuries BC.
During its early phase, the capital of Gojoseon was supposedly located in Liaoning; around 400 BC, this was moved to Pyongyang, while in the south of the peninsula, the Jin state arose by the 3rd century BC.
Gojoseon was collapsed by Han Dynasty of China during the Gojoseon--Han War in 108 BC, and this led to emergence of small states, which said Proto--Three Kingdoms period in Korean history.
The people of Gojoseon are referred to in Chinese records as Dongyi ("eastern barbarians"). Their linguistic affiliation is uncertain. Their language was probably a predecessor of the equally prehistoric Buyeo languages, and perhaps a form of Proto-Korean.
※
Yemaek (Korean pronunciation: [jemɛk̚]) were an ethnic group who dwelt in Manchuria and the Korean Peninsula. They had ancestral ties to various Korean kingdoms including Gojoseon, Gori (고리; 藁離), Buyeo, Goguryeo, Baekje, Okjeo, Dongye, Yangmaek (양맥; 梁貊) and Sosumaek (소수맥; 小水貊), and is believed to be one of the ancient tribes that were formed into the Koreans.
Ye-Maek, also known as Yemaek and Maek, is an unclassified and arguably unattested language of Manchuria and eastern Korea north of Silla in the last few centuries BCE.
The Yemaek people had historical ties to later Korean kingdoms and may have been ancestral to several, such as Gojoseon; the Ye of Yemaek are reported to have been a synonym for Buyeo, and the Maek for Goguryeo. Their language may have been one of, or ancestral to, the Buyeo languages.
Evidence for the language is limited to toponyms, and its existence is questionable. Attempts at recovering Yemaek words from toponyms in the Samguk Sagi historical record are disputed

Next time you visit downtown Seoul, Korea, make sure you pay a visit to Cheonggyecheon Stream.
You won’t have to look hard to find it, as this lovely waterway runs through just over 6 miles of Seoul. The stream has quite a history; it existed centuries ago during the Joseon Dynasty, but was concealed by infrastructure in the 1950s. In 2003, as part of Seoul’s ongoing beautification and upgrade efforts, the freeway that concealed the Cheonggyecheon Stream was removed.
Today, no matter what part of Seoul you tour, Cheonggyecheon Stream and the unique, burbling sound the rushing water makes is sure to play a part. The city has created several parks where you can sit and enjoy a picnic next to the stream; additionally, it passes under more than 20 bridges as it moves through the many skyscrapers of modern Seoul. There are also numerous sculptures and other art installations scattered around Cheonggsecheon Stream, making the perfect backdrop for your photographs.
Don’t forget to cross over Gwantonggyo Bridge, a prominent fixture of Cheonggyecheon Stream sightseeing tours. This legendary bridge was constructed during the Joseon Dynasty, but was buried underground for decades as Korea sought to modernize itself. Thanks to a recent restoration, residents and visitors can once again cross this ancient structure.

Travel video about destination South-Korea.
South Korea is a land of ancient tradition and contemporary life, a fascinating world…with five thousand years of history. Seoul is the country’s economic and cultural centre, a metropolis of twelve million inhabitants who are proud of their ancient culture. The War Museum is a reminder of the Forgotten War when the United States of America and twenty other countries took part in a United Nations military operation to support South Korea against the forces North Korea and China. Thirty kilometres south of Seoul is the fortress town of Suwon where at the end of the eighteenth century the Hwaseong Fortress was built, now a World Heritage Sight. South Korea’s most famous monastery is located in the Gaya-San National Park. Today the complex and its ninety buildings have become one of the main Buddhist centres in the East.. Tumuli Park is situated in the centre of Kyong Ju, former capital of the Silla Kingdom and contains twenty three royal tombs that look from the outside like large green hills. A huge number of valuable finds were made here thus the National Museum was created in which more than a hundred and fifty thousand exhibits from prehistoric times right up to the Joseon Dynasty are on display. Jeju island is a unique holiday paradise, a volcanic island with temples, waterfalls, tea plantations and several leisure facilities. For Koreans as well as the Japanese, Jeju Island has, due to its tropical climate, become a very popular honeymoon destination. When during dinner a volcano erupts and laser gods battle against each other, the Korean people are reminded of the fact that they have withstood invasion by the Mongols, Chinese and Japanese. At the climax of the show a fiery dragon appears: his sole task to protect glorious South Korea!

South Korea Travel Video Guide: South Korea, formally the Republic of Korea is a country in East Asia. South Korea occupies the southern half of the Korean Peninsula, with North Korea to the north, China across the sea to the west and Japan a short ferry ride to the southeast.
Archeological finds of prehistoric toolmaking on the Korean Peninsula date back to 70,000 BC, and the first pottery is found around 8000 BC. Comb-pattern pottery culture peaked around 3500-2000 BC.
Legend has it that Korea began with the founding of Gojoseon (also called Ancient Chosun) by the legendary Dangun in 2333 BC. Archeological and contemporaneous written records of Gojoseon as a kingdom date back to around 7th-4th century BC. Gojoseon was eventually defeated by the Chinese Han Dynasty and its territories were governed by four Chinese commanderies. The political chaos following the fall of the Han Dynasty in China allowed native tribes to regain control of Korea and led to the emergence of the Three Kingdoms of Korea, namely Goguryeo, Silla and Baekje. Despite repeated attempts by China, namely the Sui Dynasty and later the Tang Dynasty, to conquer the Korean Peninsula, northern-based Goguryeo managed to repel them. Eventually, Goguryeo fell to a Silla-Tang alliance, which had earlier defeated Baekje. This unified Korea under the Silla dynasty. Even though Tang later invaded, Silla forces managed to drive them out, thus maintaining Korea's independence.
Unified Silla was replaced by the Goryeo (also called Koryo) dynasty, from which the modern name "Korea" derives. One highlight of the Goryeo dynasty was that in 1234 the world's first metal movable type was invented by a Korean named Choe Yun-ui (200 years before Gutenberg's printing press). Goryeo was replaced by the Joseon (also called Chosun) dynasty, after a coup by one of its generals. The Joseon dynasty ruled Korea from 1392 to 1910, being one of the longest actively ruling dynasties in world history. It was during the early part of the Joseon dynasty that Korean technological inventions such as the world's first water clock, ironclad ship, and other innovations took place. During the rule of King Sejong the Great, the world's first rain gauge was invented and the Korean alphabet known as hangul was created.

When you arrive in Deoksugung Palace, you’re leaving the busy streets of Seoul, Korea, and entering a tranquil world defined by ancient tradition. The palace has long been a fixture for locals and visitors alike, thanks to its extraordinary architecture, rich history, and colorful guardsmen.
A tour of Deoksugung Palace will reveal its origins. Built during the Joseon Dynasty, Deoksugung Palace did not actually start out as a proper palace. It was originally constructed as the residence of a royal relative, but in 1592 it became a haven for King Seonju after all his other palaces in Seoul were destroyed by the Japanese. Over the centuries, Deoksugung Palace has been inhabited sporadically; starting in the 1600s, it was largely abandoned until 1897, when it was again utilized full-time by the royal family.
A major part of Deoksugung Palace sightseeing is the Changing of the Guard Ceremony. Guards glad in brilliant gold and purple uniforms perform this ceremony as they switch shifts three times a day. This coincides with the opening and shutting of the Daehanmun Gate, and is also accompanied by performances on musical instruments. Once the Changing of the Guard Ceremony is complete, guards will often pose for photographs with visitors, so make sure you’ve got your camera handy.

This coincides with the opening and shutting of the Daehanmun Gate, and is also accompanied by performances on musical instruments. Once the Changing of the Guard Ceremony is complete, guards will often pose for photographs with visitors, so make sure you’ve got your camera handy.

Moments in Seoul: Travel and Shopping Guide (Petite France, Nami Island, Seoul)
Namisum is a tiny half-moon shaped island located in Chuncheon, South Korea, formed as it was inundated by the rising water of the North Han River as the result of the construction of Cheongpyeong Dam (청평댐) in 1944. Its name originated from General Nami (남이장군),[1] who died at the age of 28 after being falsely accused of treason during the reign of King Sejo, the seventh king of the Joseon Dynasty of Korea. Although his grave wasn't discovered, there were a pile of stones where his body was supposed to be buried. It was believed that if someone took even one stone from there, it would bring misfortune to their house. A tour company arranged the grave with soil and then developed Namisum into an amusement park.

South Korea (한국, 韓國), formally the Republic of Korea (대한민국, 大韓民國) is a country in East Asia. South Korea occupies the southern half of the Korean Peninsula, with North Korea to the north, China across the sea to the west and Japan a short ferry ride to the southeast.
[

Street Food Around The World - Seoul Ep 9
Seoul is the capital of Korea for about 600 years, from the time of Joseon (Korea) (1392-1910). Seoul is known as the "Han Yang" (Hanyang) during the Joseon Dynasty, but after liberation from Japan in 1945, the new Republic of Korea was established officially changed its name to the capital Seoul. Seoul now has developed into a bustling metropolis, is the focus of political events, economic, social and cultural. Han River runs through the center of the city. The river divides the city into two parts; northern part of the city is the center of culture and history, while the southern part is known for the shopping district. Seoul has hosted many international events such as the Asian Olympics 1986 Olympics 1988 security card and FIFA World Cup Korea / Japan 2002. Success of this event was to show people that Seoul is really an international city. In Seoul you can find ancient palaces and the Royal Tombs of the Joseon Dynasty, as well as Seoul World Cup Stadium, 63 CITY building, Lotte World, Han River, National Park Bukkhansan (North Korea's Son), Namsan (South Son), Daehangno (University road), Insa-dong (ward Insa), Itaewon (Itaewon), Myeong-dong (Myeong ward), (ward Apgujeong), Namdaemun and Dongdaemun Market. On the outskirts of Seoul, you can find Seoul Land, Everland, Caribbean Bay, Korean Folk Village, Hwaseong City (Member States) in Suwon (Thuy Nguyen), and The Namhansan (South Han Son).

Jogyesa is the chief temple of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, becoming so in 1936. It thus plays a leading role in the current state of Seon Buddhism in South Korea. The temple was first established in 1395, at the dawn of the Joseon Dynasty; the modern temple was founded in 1910 and initially called "Hwanggaksa." The name was changed to "Taegosa" during the period of Japanese rule, and then to the present name in 1954.
Jogyesa is located in Gyeonji-dong, Jongno-gu, in central Seoul. Natural monument 9, an ancient white pine tree, is located within the temple grounds.

When my good friend Hyunwoo called me a few months ago mentioning a trip with Hana Tour, I had no idea it would end up happening so soon, and I had no idea it would be so awesome! We spent three days all over the south of Korea. We went to JeonJu, Mokpo, Boseong, Namhae, Suncheon, and the last stop was conveniently Jinju.
If my mom comes to Korea to visit me, which I imagine she will before the end of my time here, I know she would love traveling with Hana Tour. I just kept thinking how great it would be for her. She loves visiting small places, and doing little activities like paper making, and she also loves eating delicious foods. Since I'm a vegetarian, our travel hosts made a good effort to find suitable meals for me though most of the main dishes were fish and meat. My mom can't eat spicy food, but I'd feel comfortable putting her in the hands of our guides.
Now, most of you know I've been in Korea for three years now, and my Korean skills are good enough to travel around without a translator. But, if my mom was to come visit me, she would have a lot of difficulty knowing where to go, what to do, where to go to eat and what the special local dishes are. Our sweet Hana Tour guides took amazing care of us, and explained the significance of the places we went, as well as the activities we did and foods we ate.
The accommodations were just amazing. As some of you might know by some of my travel videos, I'm pretty much a budget traveler wherever I go. I usually stay in the cheapest rooms I can find, so for me, a night in the Hotel Hyundai in Mokpo was like a night sleeping in heaven. The beds were like perfect marshmallows and I slept like a baby on the soft sheets. It was first class comfort and service all around. I know my mom would love spending the night there.
This trip is good for anyone who wants to see a lot of Korea in a short time. In three days we visited more cities than I visited in my whole first year in Korea. Also, for Clara who's lived in Korea for 3 years now, it was her first time out of Seoul. Hana Tour introduced us to fantastically rich naturally beautiful places, which produced amazing pictures. In those three short days, we were able to create a lot of lasting memories and have a lot of culturally enlightening experiences while also having the freedom to wander off and have our own free time when we wanted it.
I love that Hana Tour operates their tours even if there is only one guest. I've never heard of a tour company offering tours for one. These tours truly are luxurious, and they really put their guests first, and we were absolutely their number one priority at each moment.
Now that I'm back in Jinju, after this whirlwind southerly adventure, I feel really grateful to have had the chance to explore some new places in Korea. I'm also grateful to have met our awesome tour guides Jason and Billy. Their warm passion for Korean history and culture made the places we visited even more meaningful and special. Without them, I never would have known that Suncheon has one of the top five largest wetlands in the world, or that people still live in the old style grass huts of the Joseon dynasty. I also never would have known that the Hilton in Namhae has the best sauna facilities I've ever seen in all of Korea (and I've been to a lot of saunas...). Overall, the experience was exhilarating, exhausting, exciting and exactly what a satisfying trip should be. Thank you so much again to all the amazing staff at Hana Tour for making this trip possible, thanks to our guides Billy and Jason for all the laughs, thanks to Steve, Hyunwoo, Jenna, Jaime and Clara for making so many awesome memories with me, and thank you to YOU, all 2000 of you subscribers for supporting my videos, and allowing me the opportunity to share my travels with you!
Happy travels kids!

Gyeongbokgung, also known as Gyeongbokgung Palace or Gyeongbok Palace, is a royal palace located in northern Seoul, South Korea. First constructed in 1394 and reconstructed in 1867, it was the main and largest palace of the Five Grand Palaces built by the Joseon Dynasty. The name of the palace, Gyeongbokgung, translates in English as "Palace Greatly Blessed by Heaven."
A highlight of this video is the changing of the guard ceremony. Shot in High Definition with a Canon 7D and 10-22mm lens and the opteka steadyvid pro steadicam. I wish I had a merlin2 but this steadicam is much cheaper and the results aren't too bad. A little troublesome in windy conditions though.
