Salve Regina - Les Chant des Templiers (Chant of The Templars)
Listen to this wonderful chant, so vivid and beautiful. Salve Regina is thought to have been written by Hermann of Reichenau, a German 11th-century scholar, composer, music theorist, mathematician and astronomer. This particular sequence is from the Medieval manuscript called Cambridge songbook (Carmina cantab

The Suontaka Viking sword is the finest of its kind. The elegantly carved knot-work on the guard and pommel reflect the height of Viking art.
Mirroring the dragon-prowed ships of the raiding Norsemen, the guard and pommel show the scrolling knots of dragons in interlocking loops. The blade has a deep, crisp fuller typical among Viking swords of the period, impeccably complimenting the intricate hilt design.
While working on the guard and pommel, considerable attention was given to the detailed knot work associated with the sword. The initial step in making this piece was to study original photographs of the medieval sword. We then magnified the photographs allowing our staff to recreate this beautiful piece.

Assassin's Creed Rogue Templar 11th Century Armour, Funny Big Mouth Cheat, Finishing Moves & Counter Kills
Great looking outfit, it's my favorite right now! My internet is back up again, the service provider has great costumer service. The big mouth cheat is very entertaining!
Assassin's Creed Rogue is a 2014 historical fiction action-adventure open world stealth video game developed by Ubisoft Sofia and published by Ubisoft. It is the seventh major installment in the Assassin's Creed series, and acts as a sequel to 2013's Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag and a prequel to 2012's Assassin's Creed III with its final mission being the prologue to 2014's Assassin's Creed Unity. The game was first released on the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 in November and December 2014, and will later be made available on Microsoft Windows on March 10, 2015.
The story is set in the mid-18th century during the Seven Years' War, and follows Shay Patrick Cormac, an Assassin-turned-Templar. Gameplay in Rogue is very similar to that of Black Flag with a mixture of ship-based naval exploration and third-person land-based exploration with some new features.
18th century, North America. Amidst the chaos and violence of the French and Indian War, Shay Patrick Cormac, a fearless young member of the Brotherhood of Assassin’s, undergoes a dark transformation that will forever shape the future of the American colonies. After a dangerous mission gone tragically wrong, Shay turns his back on the Assassins who, in response, attempt to end his life. Cast aside by those he once called brothers, Shay sets out on a mission to wipe out all who turned against him and ultimately become the most feared Assassin hunter in history.
Introducing Assassin’s Creed® Rogue, the darkest chapter in the Assassin’s Creed franchise yet. As Shay, you will experience the slow transformation from Assassin to Assassin Hunter. Follow your own creed and set off on an extraordinary journey through New York City, the wild river valley, and far away to the icy cold waters of the North Atlantic in pursuit of your ultimate goal - bringing down the Assassins for good.

The nightingale (Latin: philomela) is the quintessential creature of the hours before dawn, warning lovers, consoling the lonely and vexing the sleepless. Here, in the form of a sequence, the song of this little warbler is praised extravagantly and found to be better than all the instruments of man.
This particular sequence is from the Medieval manuscript called Cambridge songbook (Carmina cantabrigensia). The poem lyricizes Isidore of Seville's view on music, which divides sounding music (musica instrumentalis) into singing (musica armonica), wind music (organica) and that made by striking strings or percussion instruments (ritmica). In the central section of the poem, the narrator eulogizes the nightingale as having a song that is superior to the sounds of musical instruments. Only the diatonic monochord, says the narrator, can match its notes.
Aurea personet lyra
clara modulamina,
simplex chorda sit extensa
voce quindenaria.
Primum sonum mese reddat
lege hypodorica.
Philomelae demus laudes
in voce organica
dulce melos decantantes,
sicut docet musica,
sine cuius arte vera
nulla valent cantica.
Cum telluris vere novo
producuntur germina,
nemorosa circumcirca
frondescunt et bracchia,
flagrat odor quam suavis
florida per gramina.
Hilarescit philomela
dulcis vocis conscia
et extendens modulando
gutturis spiramina,
reddit voces ad aestivi
temporis indicia.
Instat noctis et diei
voce sub dulcisona
soporatis dans quietem
cantus per discrimina
nec non pulchra viatori
laboris solatia.
Vocis eius pulchritudo
clarior quam cithara
vincit omnes cantitando
volucrum catervulas
implens silvas atque cuncta
modulis arbustula.
Volitando scandit alta
arborum cacumina,
gloriosa valde facta
veris pro laetitia
ac festiva natis gliscit
sibilare carmina.
Felix tempus, cui resultat
talis consonantia!
Utinam per duodena
mensium curricula
dulcis philomela daret
suae vocis organa!
Sonos tuos vox non valet
imitari lirica,
Quibus nescit consentire
fistula clarisona,
Mira quia modularis
melorum tripudia.
O tu parva, numquam cessa
canere auicula.
Tuam decet symphoniam
monocordi musica
Que tuas laudes frequentas
voce diatonica.
Nolo nolo ut queiescas
temporis ad otia,
Sed ut letos des concentus
tua volo ligula,
Cuius laude memoreris
in regum palatia.
Cedit auceps ad frondosa
resonans umbracula,
Cedit cignus et suavis
ipsius melodia,
Cedit tibi timpanista
et sonora tibia.
Quamvis enim videaris
corpore premodica,
tamen te cuncti auscultant,
nemo dat iuvamina,
nisi solus rex celestis,
qui gubernat omnia.
Iam preclara tibi satis
dedimus obsequia,
que in voce sunt iocunda
et in verbis rithmica,
ad scolares et ad ludos
digne congruentia.
Tempus adest, ut solvatur
nostra vox armonica,
ne fatigent plectrum lingue
cantionum tedia
et pigrescat auris prompta
fidium ad crusmata.
Trinus Deus in personis,
unus in essentia,
nos conservet et gubernet
sua sub clementia,
et regnare nos concedat
cum ipso in gloria.
Amen.

attributed: Ultán of Árd-mBreccáin (St. Ultan of Ardbraccan) was the maternal uncle of St. Brigid, and collected a life of that great Irish saint for his pupil, St. Brogan Cloen of Rostuirc, on Ossory. There seems to be some difficulty in his chronology inasmuch as the assumption of his relation to St. Brigid must involve an extraordinary longevity, namely 180 years, because his death is not chronicled till 657. Windisch, however, explains away the seeming inconsistency. The Irish Annals describe St. Ultan as of the royal race of O'Connor, and he succeeded St. Breccan as Abbot-Bishop of Ardbraccan about the year 570. From O'Clery's "Irish Calendar" we learn that he educated and fed thousands of poor students from all parts of Ireland. Of his literary powers there are several specimens, among others, lives of St. Patrick and St. Brigid. His exquisite Latin hymn of the latter saint, commencing "Christus in nostra insula", is incorporated in the Solesmes Chant books. The exact year of his death is uncertain, the various annalists giving 653, 656, 657, and 662, but probably we are safe in following the "Annals of Ulster", wherein his obit is recorded under the year 657. He died on 4 September, on which day his feast has always been celebrated. St. Ultan's Well is still at Ardbraccan.
Brigit, ever good woman
a sparkling golden flame
may she lead us to the eternal realm
the shining bright sun
Save us Brigit
from hordes of demons
may she win for us
battles of every hardship
Destroy within us
the sins of our flesh
The branch with flowers
The mother of Jesus
Beloves pure virgin
of great honour which vanquishes
I will all-times be free
with my Leinster saint
Half pillar of the kingdom
with supreme Patrick
a beauty beyond splendours
the noble royal queen
May after old age our bodies be in coarse-cloth
may she rain her grace upon us
Save us, Brighid.

"This great musical meditation, probably from the Gallican repertoire, confronts us with the political reality which led to the death of Jesus. A combination of wordplay with very refined musical gesture is used to evoke the image of 'the Romans'."
Sequentia (Benjamin Bagby, director) and Dialogos (Katarina Livljanić, director) perform "Collegerunt pontifices" (processional antiphon).
Collegerunt pontifices (Io. 11, 47-50, 53)
Collegerunt pontifices et pharisei concilium, et dicebant:
"Quid facimus, quia hic homo multa signa facit?
Si dimittimus eum sic, omnes credent in eum:
Ne forte veniant Romani, et tollant nostrum locum,
et gentum."
V. Unus autem ex ipsis, Cayphas nomine, cum esset pontifex, anni illius, prophetavit, dicens:
"Expedit vobis, ut unus moriatur homo pro propulo, et non tota gens pereat."
Ab illo ergo die cogitaverunt interficere eum, dicentes:
"Ne forte veniant Romani, et tollant nostrum locum,
et gentem."
Collegerunt pontifices (John 11, 47-50, 53)
The chief priests and Pharisees assembled a meeting and said:
"What shall we do, since this man is working many signs?
If we leave him free to do this, everyone will believe in him,
and the Romans may well come and take away our home
and our nation."
Vs. But one of them, called Caiaphas, since he was high priest that year, prophesied, saying:
"It is best for you that one man shall die for the sake of the people, lest the whole nation perish."
So from that day they plotted to kill him, saying:
"Lest perhaps the Romans come and take away our home
and our nation."

Ely Cathedral (in full, The Cathedral Church of the Holy and Undivided Trinity of Ely) is the principal church of the Diocese of Ely, in Cambridgeshire, England, and is the seat of the Bishop of Ely. It is known locally as "the ship of the Fens" because of its prominent shape that towers above the surrounding flat landscape.
The present building was started by Abbot Simeon in 1083 during the reign of William I, and completed by about 1140.
Trivia about the Cathedral:
*The cathedral appears on the horizon in the cover photo of Pink Floyd's 1994 album The Division Bell.
*A section of the film Elizabeth: The Golden Age was filmed at the cathedral.
*Filming for The Other Boleyn Girl took place at the cathedral in August 2007.
*A week's filming took place in November 2009 at the cathedral, when it substituted for Westminster Abbey in The King's Speech
*In April 2013, Mila Kunis was at the cathedral filming Jupiter Ascending.
*The film Macbeth used the cathedral for filming in February and March 2014

Lyrics:
Victimæ paschali laudes immolent Christiani.
Agnus redemit oves: Christus innocens Patri reconciliavit peccatores.
Mors et Vita duello conflixere mirando: Dux Vitæ mortuus, regnat vivus.
Dic nobis, Maria, quid vidisti in via?
Sepulcrum Christi viventis, et gloriam vidi resurgentis,
angelicos testes, sudarium et vestes.
Surrexit Christus spes mea: præcedet suos in Galilaeam.
Scimus Christum surrexisse a mortuis vere: Tu nobis, victor Rex, miserere.
Amen. Alleluia.
English translation:
Christians, to the Paschal victim
offer your thankful praises!
A lamb the sheep redeemeth:
Christ, who only is sinless,
reconcileth sinners to the Father.
Death and life have contended
in that combat stupendous:
the Prince of life, who died,
reigns immortal.
Speak, Mary, declaring
what thou sawest, wayfaring:
"The tomb of Christ, who is living,
the glory of Jesus' resurrection;
"Bright angels attesting,
the shroud and napkin resting.
"Yea, Christ my hope is arisen;
to Galilee he will go before you."
[Happy they who bear the witness
Mary's word believing
above the tales of Jewry deceiving.]
Christ indeed from death is risen,
our new life obtaining;
have mercy, victor King, ever reigning!
Amen.
Translation from 'The English Hymnal', 1906

Skyrim's main story revolves around the player character and their effort to defeat Alduin the World-Eater, a dragon who is prophesied to destroy the world. The game is set two hundred years after the events of Oblivion and takes place in the fictional province of Skyrim. Over the course of the game, the player completes quests and develops the character by improving skills. Skyrim continues the open world tradition of its predecessors by allowing the player to travel anywhere in the game world at any time, and to ignore or postpone the main storyline indefinitely.

The Republic of Genoa was established in the early 11th century out of the ruins of the Kingdom of Italy of late, which in part was a member of the Holy Roman Empire. As a participant in the First Crusade (1096-1099), the Genoese fleet transported and provided naval support to the crusaders, mainly during the siege of Antioch in 1098, when the Genoese fleet blockaded the city while the troops provided support during the siege, and in the siege of Jerusalem in 1099. The Republic's role as a maritime power in the region secured many favorable commercial treaties for Genoese merchants, especially lucrative trading rights with the Byzantine Empire and within the Levant. Over the course of the 11th and particularly the 12th centuries, Genoa came to be the dominant force in the Western Mediterranean, as its erstwhile rivals Pisa and Amalfi declined in importance. Genoa (along with Venice) was able to gain a central position in the Mediterranean slave trade at this time. This left it with only one major rival in the Mediterranean: Venice.

After the fall of Rome, Italy slowly fell into a dark sleep. It wasn't until the 11th century when the Holy Roman Empire loosened its grip on Italy, that it reawakened. Autonomous city-states emerged, and though ravaged by waves of the plague, these tiny republics began to revitalize their cities and build on a massive level not witnessed since the rise of the Rome.

Top Documentary Films // HISTORY OF THE DARK AGES - COLLAPSE OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE. The Dark Ages is a historical periodization used for the Middle Ages, which emphasizes the cultural and economic deterioration that supposedly occurred in Western Europe following the decline of the Roman Empire. Top Documentary Films // HISTORY OF THE DARK AGES - COLLAPSE OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE.
The label employs traditional light-versus-darkness imagery to contrast the "darkness" of the period with earlier and later periods of "light". The period is characterized by a relative scarcity of historical and other written records at least for some areas of Europe, rendering it obscure to historians. The term "Dark Age" itself derives from the Latin saeculum obscurum, originally applied by Caesar Baronius in 1602 to a tumultuous period in the 10th and 11th centuries. Top Documentary Films // HISTORY OF THE DARK AGES - COLLAPSE OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE.
Originally the term characterized the bulk of the Middle Ages, or roughly the 6th to 13th centuries, as a period of intellectual darkness between extinguishing the "light of Rome" after the end of Late Antiquity, and the rise of the Italian Renaissance in the 14th century. This definition is still found in popular usage, but increased recognition of the accomplishments of the Middle Ages has led to the label being restricted in application. Since the 20th century, it is frequently applied to the earlier part of the era, the Early Middle Ages (c. 5th--10th century). However, many modern scholars who study the era tend to avoid the term altogether for its negative connotations, finding it misleading and inaccurate for any part of the Middle Ages. Top Documentary Films // HISTORY OF THE DARK AGES - COLLAPSE OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE.
The concept of a Dark Age originated with the Italian scholar Petrarch (Francesco Petrarca) in the 1330s, and was originally intended as a sweeping criticism of the character of Late Latin literature.Petrarch regarded the post-Roman centuries as "dark" compared to the light of classical antiquity. Later historians expanded the term to refer to the transitional period between Roman times and the High Middle Ages (c. 11th--13th century), including the lack of Latin literature, and a lack of contemporary written history, general demographic decline, limited building activity and material cultural achievements in general. Later historians and writers picked up the concept, and popular culture has further expanded on it as a vehicle to depict the Middle Ages as a time of backwardness, extending its pejorative use and expanding its scope. This Ancient Warfare Documentary shows the Vikings were remembered by their contemporaries as fierce, pagan raiders who threatened the Christian world. The Vikings were seafaring north Germanic people who raided, traded, explored, and settled in wide areas of Europe, Asia, and the North Atlantic islands from the late 8th to the mid-11th centuries.
The second part of this Ancient Warfare Documentary starts at 23:40 and focuses on Midsummer Day, 1314, the exiled Scottish king led an army against an English force three times as large. Pikemen in dense formation routed the English, restoring Scotland to the kingdoms of Europe. Warfare in Medieval Scotland includes all military activity in the modern borders of Scotland, or by forces originating in the region, between the departure of the Romans in the fifth century and the adoption of the innovations of the Renaissance in the early sixteenth century.
These Ancient Warfare Documentaries explain Ancient Warfare is is war as conducted from the beginnings of recorded history to the end of the ancient period. In Europe and the Near East, the end of antiquity is often equated with the Fall of Rome in 476, the wars of the Eastern Roman Empire on its Southwestern Asian and North African borders, and the beginnings of the Muslim conquests in the 7th century. In China, it can also be seen as ending with the growing role of mounted warriors needed to counter the ever-growing threat from the north in the 5th century and the beginning of the Tang Dynasty in 618. In India, the ancient period ends with the decline of the Gupta Empire (6th century) and the beginning of the Muslim conquests there from the 8th century. In Japan, the ancient period can be taken to end with the rise of feudalism in the Kamakura period in the 12-13th century.

In the late 15th and 16th centuries, alliances among various city-states continually shifted as foreign superpowers tried to sink their claws into Italy. France, Spain, and the Holy Roman Empire fought out their battles with each other on Italian soil, while the threat of the Turks lurked off the shores of Venice. The masters who are most known for creating the works of art and architecture of the Renaissance, were also the greatest military and civil engineers of the time. With a knowledge of the ancients and a thirst for new invention, engineering rose to heights not seen since the Roman Empire - advancing methods in everything from civilian projects, to architecture, and finally - to war.
Some of the epoch's greatest feats of engineering were: The creation of a vast underground aqueduct system in Siena. The Building of the cupola of Santa Maria del Fiore by Brunelleschi
The advancement of fortification and firepower by engineers like Sangallo and di Giorgio. And, the renewal of Rome's glory as a city - from the repairing of the Roman aqueducts to the moving of St. Peters' mammoth obelisk.

On December 4, 2015, India's ZeeNews TV Network hosted a discussion on the French government's decision to shut down 160 mosques in France in the wake of the Paris and San Bernardino jihadi terror attacks.
The guests included Maulana Ansar Raza, a Islamic cleric who passes himself off as opposed to Islamic terrorism, but during the discussion with Canadian author Tarek Fatah, the Indian cleric let his guard down and admitted that he considered the Arab and other Islamic generals who invaded India from the 8th to the 11th century, most notably, the Umayyad General Mohammad Bin Qasim who invaded India via Sind, and Mahmood Ghazni who raided India 17 times in the 11th century, bringing large scale devastation to India and is best know to have destroyed the Somnath Hindu Temple in Gujarat State and looted tonnes of gold from these temples.
The Indian cleric also revealed that he considered the mass murdering Mogul Emperor Aurangzeb of the 18th century as a hero of India's Muslims. In fact the cleric referred to the Mogul who beheaded his own brothers and family in the name of Islam, as a 'Wali', a word in Arabic meaning leader representing Allah's rule on earth.
Here is an edited version of the 46 minute debate, highlighting the views expressed by Maulana Ansar Raza that have shocked ordinary Indians.

Battambang is the capital city of Battambang province in north western Cambodia.
Founded in the 11th century by the Khmer Empire, Battambang is well known for being the leading rice-producing province of the country. For nearly 100 years, it was a major commercial hub and provincial capital of Siamese province of Inner Cambodia (1795-1907), though it was always populated by Khmer with a mix of ethnic Vietnamese, Lao, Thai and Chinese. Still today Battambang is the main hub of the Northwest connecting the entire region with Phnom Penh and Thailand, and as such it’s a vital link to Cambodia.
The city is situated by the Sangkae River, a tranquil, small body of water that winds its way through Battambang Province providing its nice picturesque setting. As with much of Cambodia, the French Colonial architecture is an attractive bonus of the city. It is home to some of the best preserved French colonial architecture in the country.

The 11th century was a time of knighthood, when the medieval monarchs were waning due to feuding lords and knights. Two of the courageous knights fighting during this period were Leon Belmont and Mathias Cronqvist, who together with Leon's exceptional combat experience and Mathias' skills as a tactician led one of the strongest companies in the realm. Walter Bernhard was a powerful vampire who lived in a castle within a forest covered in eternal darkness. One day, Leon's fiance, Sara, is kidnapped by this very vampire. Leon renounces his loyalty to the Church in order to save her.

When nine-year-old Rob Cole felt the life force slipping from his mother's hand he could not foresee that this terrifying awareness of impending death was a gift that would lead him from the familiar life of 11th-century London to small villages throughout England and finally to the medical school at Ispahan. Though apprenticed to an itinerant barber surgeon, it is the dazzling surgery of a Jewish physician trained by the legendary Persian physician Avicenna that inspires him to accept his gift and to commit his life to healing by studying at Avicenna's school. Despite the ban on Christian students, Rob goes there, disguising himself as a Jew to gain admission. Gordon has written an adventurous and inspiring tale of a quest for medical knowledge pursued in a violent world full of superstition and prejudice.

Fiona Bruce visits Windsor Castle, the world's oldest and largest inhabited castle, dating back to the 11th century. Taking more than a thousand years to reach its familiar look, it has been a fortress, a home to medieval chivalry, a baroque palace, and finally a romantic fantasy.
From the bowels of the Castle to the heights of the battlements, Fiona encounters all manner of royal treasures - from the musket ball that killed a naval hero to table decorations in gold and silver and encrusted with jewels; from the triple-headed portrait of a king who lost his head to Queen Mary's Dolls' House with running taps, and a secret garden hidden in a drawer. All of this was almost lost in the disastrous fire of 1992.

(26 October, 2012, Palampur, Himachal Pradesh) In an unprecedented three-day event, His Holiness the 17thKarmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje, is granting initiation and teachings on Chöd. A spiritual practice developed by Machig Labdron, a Tibetan yogini in the 11th century, Chöd is practiced by nearly all sects of Tibetan Buddhism to this day. Approximately 1,000 people from across the Himalayan region and around the world are here to attend this historic Dharma transmission, which is being conferred for the first time by His Holiness in response to a supplication made by a western Buddhist woman, Lama Tsultrim Allione, on behalf of all women practitioners. Lama Tsultrim was ordained in 1970 as a Buddhist nun by His Holiness the 16th Karmapa, and later pursued the path as a lay practitioner.
The teachings and empowerment are taking place through 28 October and hosted at Dorzong Monastic Institute (Jangchub Jong) in Kangra Valley, Himachal Pradesh, by His Eminence the 8th Dorzong Rinpoche, a highly respected senior lineage holder within the Drugpa Kagyu lineage of Tibetan Buddhism. The Dharma transmission is reserved for serious practitioners, while a long-life initiation to be offered to the general public on 29 October at Dorzong Institute. Apart from several hundred Buddhist nuns from around the Himalayas, the event has attracted disciples from dozens of different countries.
Expressing his delight regarding the occasion, His Holiness the Karmapa said: "Since the time of the 3rd Karmapa who wrote the first commentary on Chöd, the Karmapas have maintained a close connection to this practice. I myself feel a deep bond with these teachings coming from Machig Labdrön. She is the perfect embodiment of wisdom and compassion and has inspired Buddhist practitioners for many centuries. I am especially pleased that I can offer this encouragement and support to female practitioners from around the Himalayan region and the world, and pray that the good merit from this event generates peace."
The Gyalwang Karmapas are the historical holders of the direct lineage of Chöd, which is based on the Indian Buddhist deity Prajnaparamita, the Mother of all the Buddhas, embodiment of wisdom. Of the eight practice lineages of the Tibetan Buddhist tradition, Chöd is the only lineage established by a woman.
