"Majaz" or "Majaz Lakhnawi" who's original name was Asrar-ul-Haq, was the poet who composed the unforgettable Aligarh Tarana and music has been composed by Khan Ishtiaque. The Chief guest of 58th annual convocation was the former President of India, APJ Abdul Kalam. Wipro Technologies Limited chairman, Azim Premji was also invited to grace the occasion. Both of them were conferred with an honorary degree of Doctor of Science (honoris causa).

Tahil gained national recognition across the UK when he won the role of Dan Ferreira in the iconic BBC1 soap opera EastEnders in 2003, appearing in over 60 episodes. He made his last appearance in the episode aired on 30 December 2003. As a result of an insufficient work permit application, Dalip had to exit the series which compelled him to appeal to the Secretary of State in the UK. Dalip was subsequently granted indefinite leave to remain in the UK in 2005.

This week BollywoodPataka Editor Denzil give us his point of view on Aligarh Movie Review. Director Hansal Mehta of Shahid fame brings out the very sensitive subject of homosexuality through the eyes of the gaunt and fragile 65 year old college professor Dr Siras played by Manoj Bajpayee
The Aligarh film looms over us and is larger than the character of the Aligarh Muslim University professor Dr Siras. Hansal Mehta treats this taboo subject with a subtlety that is at once starkness and real but never once does it make you the viewer uncomfortable with the subject. Yet it questions society and how we look at subjects like privacy and social labeling.
The lead character by Manoj Bajpayee lead character in the film Aligrah is weak delicate and fragile and almost shy, and that comes through in the acting of the master craftsman Manoj Bajpayee. He comes across as human, there is a certain gentleness and loneliness that is disarming and very delicate evoking a certain empathy from the viewer. He is the lover who refuses to label his love. I shall use fantastic and awesome her for Manoj Bajpayee here and after you watch the film you will know why
Rajkummar Rao who plays a Delhi-based reporter of a daily too is strong in his act matching Bajpai’s act action for action has put on a good very believable act in the film. There are flaws too few for us to mention and therefore we give Aligarh 4 patakas Go watch for rich storytelling and a brilliant completely thought provoking act by Manoj Bajpayee

A Hansal Mehta movie is always hard to ignore and his latest offering Aligarh has much the same impact as his hard hitting Shahid did. Here’s what the film is all about.
Aligarh is based on the true story of Professor Shrinivas Ramchandra Siras of the Aligarh Muslim University. He was suspended for having consensual sex with a man in his room. Siras then took the case to the Allahabad high court and won. However, the whole thing still resulted in a tragedy. Manoj Bajpayee plays the role of the professor in Aligarh with Rajkummar Rao playing the role of a journalist who documents the entire incident.
As usual, Hansal Mehta manages to cut right to the heart of the matter and once again delivers a film that focuses on hard facts. The film delivers the message of freedom and equality without getting over-dramatic or resorting to Bollywood cliches in any way. This means that Aligarh is by no means an easy watch since it does not pull any punches.
Manoj Bajpayee brilliantly portrays the role of a 64 year old man and manages to get into the skin of the character with remarkable ease. He is strong yet sensitive and almost meek at times. Rajkummar Rao is at his usual best in the film ensuring we have fantastic performances across the board.
Overall, Hansal Mehta brings us yet another brilliant feature that needs to be watched by everyone. We shall go with three and a half stars for Aligarh.
