The trip involved high-grade free climbing on Surveiller et Punir and Pichenibule that Lambert had envisioned since her early training days in the American deep south and one that forced Caroline George to face her alpinist’s fear of falling on the atmospheric rock routes that made the towering cliffs famous in international climbing circles. Monique Forestier first visited the Verdon Gorge, France, in 2007. Gazing across at the far side of the gorge she became captivated by an extraordinary line which follows a single "tufa" line for most of the 60-metre route. It is called "Tom et je Ris" (8b+). Time and conditions didn't allow her to seriously try it that trip but it gave her plenty to dream about for the next few years. She finally returned in October 2011 and as her daughter would say, "I did it!".

Une équipe de choc avec 2 caméras GoPro pour filmer tout ça mais malheureusement, nous avons eu des problèmes de SD et de batterie sur la fin...
Filmé en R3, 720p 60fps pour un rendu grand angle parfait !

The Verdon Gorge (in French: Gorges du Verdon or Grand canyon du Verdon), in south-eastern France (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence), is a river canyon that is often considered to be one of Europe's most beautiful. It is about 25 kilometres long and up to 700 metres deep. It was formed by the Verdon River, which is named after its startling turquoise-green colour, one of the canyon's most distinguishing characteristics. The most impressive part lies between the towns of Castellane and Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, where the river has cut a ravine up to 700 metres down through the limestone mass. At the end of the canyon, the Verdon river flows into the artificial lake of Sainte-Croix-du-Verdon (in French: Lac de Sainte-Croix).
Because of its proximity to the French Riviera, the canyon is very popular with tourists, who can drive around its rim, rent kayaks or hike. The limestone walls, which are several hundreds of metres high, attract many rock climbers. It is considered an outstanding destination for multi-pitch climbing. There are routes encompassing cracks, pillars and seemingly endless walls. The climbing is generally of a technical nature, and there are over 1,500 routes, ranging from 20m to over 400m.

Time and conditions didn't allow her to seriously try it that trip but it gave her plenty to dream about for the next few years. She finally returned in October 2011 and as her daughter would say, "I did it!".

The Gorge du Verdon is a 25 kilometer (15 miles) long canyon and rises a spectacular 700 meters (2,300 feet) from the Verdon river below. The river, which is named after its startling green emerald color, is one of the Gorge du Verdon’s most beautiful features. Water sport opportunities here include rafting, kayaking, sailing and water skiing.
The Verdon Gorge (in French: Gorges du Verdon or Grand canyon du Verdon), in south-eastern France (Alpes-de-Haute-Provence), is a river canyon that is often considered to be one of Europe's most beautiful. It is about 25 kilometres long and up to 700 metres deep. It was formed by the Verdon River, which is named for its startling turquoise-green colour, one of the location's distinguishing characteristics. The most impressive part lies between the towns of Castellane and Moustiers-Sainte-Marie, where the river has cut a ravine to a depth of 700 metres through the limestone mass. At the end of the canyon, the Verdon River flows into the artificial lake of Sainte-Croix-du-Verdon (in French: Lac de Sainte-Croix).

GIORNO2 Secondo video della vacanza in Provenza. Oggi abbiamo deciso di fare colazione in riva al lago e farci sorprendere dal paesaggio mozzafiato delle gole piu' profonde d'Europa, le gole del Verdon! Nel video dico che stiamo andando verso Riez per visitare la casa dell'Ape e la distilleria della lavanda, in realta' abbiamo trovato chiuso entrambi i posti (la casa dell'ape non esiste neanche piu'!) We take a scenic drive through the 'Grand Canyon of Europe', also known as the Gorges Du Verdon. This is the largest canyon in all of Europe!

This rough area with wild rivers and naturally famous ravines is nothing less than Frances Grand Canyon: the Gorge du Verdon. The Gorge is one of the most spectacular natural phenomena in France and has a breathtaking beauty.
The Gorge du Verdon is well over 20 kilometres long and at its widest is 1.5 kilometres.
In 1905 a French caver led an expedition through the gorge for the first time. The trip took a little less than four days and the expedition concluded that the area was definitely inaccessible to humans. In the meantime we know better than that.
The ravine is 700 metres deep in some places and offers unique impressions to the tourist who takes the trouble to descend into it. If you travel by car a visit to the Gorge takes up an entire day.
There are two roads along the top of the gorge with numerous lookouts - such as Point Sublime, La Palud sur Verdon and Pont de Lártuby - for visitors to gaze at the wonderful rock formations and glittering waters deep down below. Footpaths take you to the banks of the rivers.
Bird-watchers are delighted to see the griffon vultures lazily circling in the thermals. These impressive birds of prey nearly died out here but thanks to efforts of nature activists they obtained protected status and a new opportunity to survive and multiply.

Verdon Gorge is popular with those from all nationalities who love the outdoors, but the best way to explore and appreciate Europe’s most impressive canyon is surely by trekking into the canyon itself.
This video takes you into the canyon to show some of the highlights of trekking in the Verdon Gorge, following stunning paths like the Bastidon trail taking you to the very top of the limestone cliffs and the Sentier Martel trail taking you down to the turquoise-blue river below.
Outside of the canyon there are other trails to be explored. A walk up the highest point in the Verdon region, Mourre de Chanier 1,930m/6,332ft, provides beautiful far-reaching views of the southern Alps and Verdon Gorge. On a clear day you can also see the peaks of the Haute Savoir and the Cevennes.
The Verdon Gorge really is an incredible trekking destination, but the area has many other charms to add to its attractions. Characteristic Provençale villages like Rougon, Trigance and La Palud provide a welcome respite in between trekking, allowing time to explore these charming towns at a leisurely pace. Delicious food, delectable wine, wonderful scenery, and aromas of wild thyme and lavender which grow everywhere in profusion make this part of France the ideal destination for your next adventure.

Bird-watchers are delighted to see the griffon vultures lazily circling in the thermals. These impressive birds of prey nearly died out here in France but thanks to efforts of nature activists they were reintroduced in Gorge du Verdon and obtained protected status and a new opportunity to survive and multiply. The ravine is 700 metres deep in some places and offers unique impressions to the tourist who takes the trouble to descend into it. If you travel by car a visit to the Gorge takes up an entire day.
There are two roads along the top of the gorge with numerous lookouts - such as Point Sublime, La Palud sur Verdon and Pont de Lártuby - for visitors to gaze at the wonderful rock formations and glittering waters deep down below. Footpaths take you to the banks of the rivers.
De vale gier komt in Europa voor in Portugal, Frankrijk en Spanje, onder andere in de Pyreneeën. Hij is ook geherintroduceerd in centraal Frankrijk, zoals hier in de Gorge du Verdon. De gier heeft een groot verspreidingsgebied van ongeveer 10 miljoen vierkante kilometer. Zn leefgebied bestaat uit bergachtige gebieden in kale, dorre streken zonder veel bomen. De vale gier rust en broedt langs steile kliffen. Hij legt maar één ei per jaar, dat door beide ouders wordt uitgebroed,
De vale gier behoort tot de roofvogels maar is een aaseter en zoekt al vliegend naar karkassen van dieren. Die kunnen ze opsporen vanwege hun uitstekende gezichtsvermogen. De gier kan zelf geen karkassen openscheuren en moet eerst wachten op andere aaseters,die het karkas aanvreten.

Oggi abbiamo deciso di fare colazione in riva al lago e farci sorprendere dal paesaggio mozzafiato delle gole piu' profonde d'Europa, le gole del Verdon!
Nel video dico che stiamo andando verso Riez per visitare la casa dell'Ape e la distilleria della lavanda, in realta' abbiamo trovato chiuso entrambi i posti (la casa dell'ape non esiste neanche piu'!)
Siamo stati li' a pranzo e quando siamo arrivati a Valensole eravamo un po' provati dal caldo...quindi non abbiamo ripreso molto ma il paesaggio era davvero incantevole!
La serata si conclude ad Apt, il ristorante dove abbiamo mangiato (che consigliamo) e':

A former undercover CIA officer will be extradited to Italy to face charges over the 2003 extraordinary rendition of a terror suspect to Egypt, according to Raw Story quoting a UK Guardian story.Sabrina De Sousa, who holds US and Portuguese citizenship, was arrested in Portugal last October and has lost three appeals against being handed over to Italian authorities, the report said. Her extradition is scheduled for May 4....
