About EMD Locomotives

The EMD GT46PAC is a passenger-hauling diesel-electric locomotive with AC electric transmission designed by General Motors Electro-Motive Division and built by both GM-EMD and under license by Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW) of Varanasi, India for Indian Railways as their classes WDP-4, WDP-4B and WDP-4D. The GT46PAC is a passenger version of the previous Indian Railways EMD GT46MAC freight locomotive. The locomotive has a 16 cylinder 710G3B diesel engine with a maximum speed of 904 RPM.

The WDP4D Locomotive:-
Newer editions with 4500 hp have been produced which have been named with the sub class WDP-4B /WDP-4D which have different traction control with six traction motors and are Co-Co bogie equipped (more similar to WDG-4), unlike the original which has a Bo-1-1-Bo arrangement with four traction motors. Due to some visibility hindrances faced by loco pilots in driving long hood front, the basic WDP-4B model has been modified to dual cab to eliminate any such possibility. The other features of the WDP-4B and the WDP-4D are the same. The newer cabs have slightly wider profiles to improve visibility & LCD instrument display.

Connects Thiruvananthapuram and Nizamuddin, covering a distance of 3149 km in about 41.25 hrs and 17 halts. Belongs to Northern Railway.
12432 does NZM KOTA non stop 458 km in 4.30 hrs, average 102 km/hr. Until July 1999, TVC Rajdhani had no intermediate passenger halts in its 986 km run between Vadodara and Hazrat Nizamuddin.

The interiors of the First AC Coach of 12951 BCT-NDLS Rajdhani Express.
The first half of the video is shot when the train was stationed at BCT platform no-1. The other half of the video is shot on board 12953 BCT-NZM August Kranti Rajdhani Express. When I was traveling on it. 12951/52 has a RSA with 12953-54.This video shows the interiors of the First AC coach and the toilets. The coach was neat and clean even the toilets were pretty decent. The coach was 2004 made coach.

Inspired by many journey compilation experts in my YT friends list, a small attempt to make a journey compilation of my travel on-board the Rajdhani class train on 29th and 30th January, 2016. I generally prefer sitting back and enjoying the journey or prefer speaking with my co-passengers. But in this case, there were just 4 people in my 2- AC coach!! Just 4!!! Phew! The train attenders were more in number than the passengers. Hence to kill the boredom, decided to take few videos and have stuffed all of them in the compilation.

"An Epic Moment for Indian Railways - Gatimaan vs Rajdhani"
Speed King Gatimaan Express overtakes the late running Madgaon Radhjani.
As heavily delayed 22413 Madgaon - Nizamuddin Rajdhani express lead by BRC WAP-5#30073 is looped at Palwal,
30007 hauled Agra - Delhi Gatimaan Express, Train#12049 overtakes the Rajdhani with no mercy.
It happened because Goa rajdhani faced a Loco power failure near Ratnagiri, with another incident overboard.
Gatimaan Express is the latest and the Fastest Train of Indian Railways runs at the MPS of 160 kmph. It covers a dist of 187kms between Agra Cantt. to Delhi H.Nizamuddin in 1hr 40min.
Madgaon Rajdhani is the newest Rajdhani Train plying between Madgaon to Delhi, covering a distance of 2093 kms in 29hr 55min(for monsoon period).

Along with the Trivandrum Rajdhani, the Chennai Rajdhani has one of the most aggressive schedules on Indian Railways, given the distance it covers. The train travels for 2,175 kilometres, in a little over 28 hours, which include at least two stretches where the train is restricted to a top speed of 110 kmph. Regardless, the train maintains a fine tempo, as the Lallaguda WAP7 leads it across 6 states into the national capital of Delhi.
This collection documents the major station skips undertaken by the 12433 Chennai Rajdhani Express. A large number of skips occur in the 431 km non-stop run from Chennai to Vijayawada. We initially have three slow skips of Gudur, Nellore and Bitragunta in Andhra Pradesh, before picking up some good speed through Kavali. Ongole is covered at a sedate pace but we are again at our best through Chirala. Post Vijayawada, the Chennai Rajdhani really opens up in 120 kmph territory. The train simply flies through the relatively large stations of Khammam, Dornakal, Ramagundam and Manchiriyal, hitting 115-120 kmph in each case. At Sirpur Kaghaznagar, we overtake the Kerala Express. As evening fell, we entered the Bhusaval-Nagpur stretch through the magnificent Sewagram curve.
I was rather tired after being on high alert through the day and went to sleep early, missing the night time skips of Betul, Amla, Narkher, Itarsi, Vidisha, Bina and Lalitpur. That was however made up by the Chennai Rajdhani's blitz post Jhansi. We were around 15-20 minutes delayed at Jhansi, and the Rajdhani went on a rampage through the rugged terrain of Madhya Pradesh. The skip of Morena at 130 kmph marks one of the fastest passages which I have witnessed on Indian Railways. There was a restriction at Dhaulpur and we cruised through Mathura: our last major skip enroute Delhi.

The first Rajdhani Express was inaugurated in 1969, to link Kolkata with New Delhi. Back then, it revolutionized train travel between the two cities, cutting down travel time by 25 per cent and hitting speeds of 130 kmph, when other trains were restricted to 100 kmph. Soon, a second Rajdhani connecting Mumbai and Delhi followed, after which there was a hiatus, and starting in 1994 with the Bangalore Rajdhani, an effort was made to have a Rajdhani to each of India’s state capitals (barring the ones too close to Delhi such as Chandigarh, Jaipur, Dehradun, Bhopal and Lucknow – all of which got a Shatabdi in return).
The Rajdhanis are fully air-conditioned rakes, often receiving the highest priorities on the routes they travel. On-board catering provides passengers with meals at regular intervals and the trains almost invariably are faster than most other trains on the routes they travel.
In this compilation, I attempt to present all the Rajdhanis in a single video. Missing are the Secunderabad and Jammu Rajdhanis, which unfortunately I have never had a chance to capture. Aside, the compilation features some high speed crossings of the Howrah, Sealdah, Chennai and Bangalore Rajdhanis, and a rather unique clip from the Bilaspur Rajdhani in its ICF era, when it left Delhi at 2040 and traveled across the Bhopal-Nagpur stretch in broad daylight.

Rajdhani Express
The Rajdhani Express is a series of express passenger train services in India operated by Indian Railways connecting New Delhi with other important destinations (mostly capital cities of other states). Rajdhani means "The Capital" in many Indian languages. The Rajdhanis are among the fastest trains in India along with Shatabdi Express and Duronto Express and get the highest priority on the Indian railway network.
History
Rajdhani Express was introduced in 1969, for providing fast connections (up to 140 km/h or 87 mph, speed variation depending upon the particular track section) from New Delhi to the capital cities of various states in India. The first Rajdhani Express left New Delhi station for Howrah station to cover a distance of 1,445 km in 17 hours 20 mins.
About
Rajdhani express get highest priority on the Indian railway network. They are fully air-conditioned. Passengers are served complimentary meals during the journey. Depending on the duration and timings of the journey, these could include morning tea, breakfast, lunch, high tea and dinner. All Rajdhani Express trains offer three classes of accommodation: AC First Class with 2-berth and 4-berth lockable bedrooms, AC 2-tier with open berths (bays of 4 berths + 2 berths on the other side of the corridor) with curtains for privacy, and AC 3-tier (bays of 6 berths + 2 berths on the side) without curtains. Currently there are 22 pairs of trains, connecting New Delhi to important cities across the country. These trains have fewer stops than other express trains and halt only at prominent stations. The Indian Railways has also introduced free wi-fi facility in Rajdhani Express trains.

Indian Railways (reporting mark IR) is an Indian state-owned enterprise, owned and operated by the Government of India through the Ministry of Railways. Chennai Rajdhani Express
The Chennai Rajdhani Express (12433/34) is an important train connecting Chennai to New Delhi. It was first introduced in 1993 and runs twice a week from Delhi and twice from Chennai. The Chennai Rajdhani is a fast alternative to the classic Grand Trunk Express and the modern superfast Tamil Nadu Express. The Chennai Rajdhani covers a distance of 2176 kilometers in 28 hours 10 minutes as compared to 33 hours covered by Tamil Nadu Express and 35 hours taken by Grand Trunk Express. It gets WAP7/WAP4 from SCR's LALLAGUDA electric shed. It shares the record of being the fastest train between Hazrat Nizamuddin and Chennai Central with the Chennai Duronto covering the 2174 km journey in 28 hours and 20 minutes.

The train has a high priority at signals, on the Indian railway network, and is fully air-conditioned. Passengers are provided with complimentary meals during the journey. Back then, it revolutionized train travel between the two cities, cutting down travel time by 25 per cent and hitting speeds of 130 kmph, when other trains were restricted to 100 kmph. Soon, a second Rajdhani connecting Mumbai and Delhi followed, after which there was a hiatus, and starting in 1994 with the Bangalore Rajdhani, an effort was made to have a Rajdhani to each of India’s state capitals (barring the ones too close to Delhi such as Chandigarh, Jaipur, Dehradun, Bhopal and Lucknow – all of which got a Shatabdi in return). The Rajdhanis are fully air-conditioned rakes, often receiving the highest priorities on the routes they travel. On-board catering provides passengers with meals at regular intervals and the trains almost invariably are faster than most other trains on the routes they travel. In this compilation, I attempt to present all the Rajdhanis in a single video. Missing are the Secunderabad and Jammu Rajdhanis, which unfortunately I have never had a chance to capture. Aside, the compilation features some high speed crossings of the Howrah, Sealdah, Chennai and Bangalore Rajdhanis, and a rather unique clip from the Bilaspur Rajdhani in its ICF era, when it left Delhi at 2040 and traveled across the Bhopal-Nagpur stretch in broad daylight.

Inspired by many journey compilation experts in my YT friends list, a small attempt to make a journey compilation of my travel on-board the Rajdhani class train on 29th and 30th January, 2016. I generally prefer sitting back and enjoying the journey or prefer speaking with my co-passengers. But in this case, there were just 4 people in my 2- AC coach!! Just 4!!! Phew! The train attenders were more in number than the passengers. Hence to kill the boredom, decided to take few videos and have stuffed all of them in the compilation. Along with the Trivandrum Rajdhani, the Chennai Rajdhani has one of the most aggressive schedules on Indian Railways, given the distance it covers. The train travels for 2,175 kilometres, in a little over 28 hours, which include at least two stretches where the train is restricted to a top speed of 110 kmph. Regardless, the train maintains a fine tempo, as the Lallaguda WAP7 leads it across 6 states into the national capital of Delhi. The train simply flies through the relatively large stations of Khammam, Dornakal, Ramagundam and Manchiriyal, hitting 115-120 kmph in each case. At Sirpur Kaghaznagar, we overtake the Kerala Express. As evening fell, we entered the Bhusaval-Nagpur stretch through the magnificent Sewagram curve.
I was rather tired after being on high alert through the day and went to sleep early, missing the night time skips of Betul, Amla, Narkher, Itarsi, Vidisha, Bina and Lalitpur. That was however made up by the Chennai Rajdhani's blitz post Jhansi. We were around 15-20 minutes delayed at Jhansi, and the Rajdhani went on a rampage through the rugged terrain of Madhya Pradesh. The skip of Morena at 130 kmph marks one of the fastest passages which I have witnessed on Indian Railways. There was a restriction at Dhaulpur and we cruised through Mathura: our last major skip enroute Delhi.

The train simply flies through the relatively large stations of Khammam, Dornakal, Ramagundam and Manchiriyal, hitting 115-120 kmph in each case. At Sirpur Kaghaznagar, we overtake the Kerala Express. As evening fell, we entered the Bhusaval-Nagpur stretch through the magnificent Sewagram curve.
I was rather tired after being on high alert through the day and went to sleep early, missing the night time skips of Betul, Amla, Narkher, Itarsi, Vidisha, Bina and Lalitpur. That was however made up by the Chennai Rajdhani's blitz post Jhansi. We were around 15-20 minutes delayed at Jhansi, and the Rajdhani went on a rampage through the rugged terrain of Madhya Pradesh. The skip of Morena at 130 kmph marks one of the fastest passages which I have witnessed on Indian Railways. There was a restriction at Dhaulpur and we cruised through Mathura: our last major skip enroute Delhi.

The first Rajdhani Express was inaugurated in 1969, to link Kolkata with New Delhi. Back then, it revolutionized train travel between the two cities, cutting down travel time by 25 per cent and hitting speeds of 130 kmph, when other trains were restricted to 100 kmph. Soon, a second Rajdhani connecting Mumbai and Delhi followed, after which there was a hiatus, and starting in 1994 with the Bangalore Rajdhani, an effort was made to have a Rajdhani to each of India’s state capitals (barring the ones too close to Delhi such as Chandigarh, Jaipur, Dehradun, Bhopal and Lucknow – all of which got a Shatabdi in return).
The Rajdhanis are fully air-conditioned rakes, often receiving the highest priorities on the routes they travel. On-board catering provides passengers with meals at regular intervals and the trains almost invariably are faster than most other trains on the routes they travel.
In this compilation, I attempt to present all the Rajdhanis in a single video. Missing are the Secunderabad and Jammu Rajdhanis, which unfortunately I have never had a chance to capture. Aside, the compilation features some high speed crossings of the Howrah, Sealdah, Chennai and Bangalore Rajdhanis, and a rather unique clip from the Bilaspur Rajdhani in its ICF era, when it left Delhi at 2040 and traveled across the Bhopal-Nagpur stretch in broad daylight.
