Alan Stanford (born 1949) is an English born actor, director and writer.
Though originally from Liverpool, Alan Stanford's childhood was spent on the Isle of Wight in the South of England. He was an only child. He trained as an actor at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Stanford moved to Ireland 1969 after touring there and eventually became an Irish citizen. As of 2011 became resident in the USA and is based in Pittsburgh.
Stanford's parents were John Stanford and Anne Kirkpatrick who raised him for most of his childhood in the Isle of Wight, however in 2010, at the age of 61, Stanford discovered that he had been adopted and that he shared a biological mother with six younger children.
He has been married twice and has two sons from his second marriage.
As a director Stanford began his career in Ireland at the Project Arts Centre where his productions included works by Shaw, Arbuzov, Graham Greene, Brecht, Dürrenmatt and Shakespeare. He is Artistic Director of Second Age Theatre Company for whom he has directed many productions, most recently King Lear, Othello and Philadelphia Here I Come.
Robert Allen Stanford (born March 24, 1950) is a former prominent financier and sponsor of professional sports who is serving a 110-year prison sentence, having been convicted of charges that his investment company was a massive Ponzi scheme and fraud. Stanford was the chairman of the now defunct Stanford Financial Group of Companies. A fifth-generation Texan who once resided in Saint Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, he holds dual citizenship, being a citizen of Antigua and Barbuda and the United States. He contributed millions of dollars to politicians in both Antigua and the United States amongst other countries.
In early 2009, Stanford became the subject of several fraud investigations, and on February 17, 2009, was charged by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) with fraud and multiple violations of U.S. securities laws for alleged "massive ongoing fraud" involving $7 billion in certificates of deposits. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) raided Stanford's offices in Houston, Texas; Memphis, Tennessee; and Tupelo, Mississippi. On February 27, 2009, the SEC amended its complaint to describe the alleged fraud as a "massive Ponzi scheme". He "voluntarily surrendered" to authorities on June 18, 2009. On March 6, 2012, Stanford was convicted on all charges except a single count of wire fraud. He is serving his 110-year sentence at United States Penitentiary, Coleman in Coleman, Florida. In September 2014, Stanford appealed his conviction however federal judges rejected the appeal in October 2015.
Stanford University, officially Leland Stanford Junior University, is a private research university in Stanford, California, and one of the world's most prestigious institutions.
Stanford was founded in 1885 by Leland Stanford, former Governor of and U.S. Senator from California and leading railroad tycoon, and his wife, Jane Lathrop Stanford, in memory of their only child, Leland Stanford, Jr., who had died of typhoid fever at age 15 the previous year. Stanford admitted its first students on October 1, 1891 as a coeducational and non-denominational institution. Tuition was free until 1920. The university struggled financially after Leland Stanford's 1893 death and again after much of the campus was damaged by the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. Following World War II, Provost Frederick Terman supported faculty and graduates' entrepreneurialism to build self-sufficient local industry in what would later be known as Silicon Valley. By 1970, Stanford was home to a linear accelerator, and was one of the original four ARPANET nodes (precursor to the Internet).

Brutal Assault is an extreme metal open-air music festival that takes place in an 18th-century army fortress (Josefov Fortress) in Jaroměř, Czech Republic. It takes place each August, traditionally on a Thursday, Friday and Saturday, at the beginning of the month. The festival was started in 1996, originally featuring mostly grindcore music. For many years, it was a small show with mainly local Czech and Slovak bands performing. It changed location several times and grew into a major event in 2006, when over 7,000 people came to that year's event in Svojšice. After moving to Josefov, the attendances grew further to 15,000 in 2012. Brutal Assault currently operates a two-stage system. The festival motto is: "Against violence and intolerance".
Brutal Assault takes place in Josefov, an imperial army fortress built from 1780 to 1787 by Emperor Joseph II on the left bank of the Elbe and Mettau rivers near Jaroměř. The two concert stages are built against the outer walls of this huge fortress.

http://wwcricket.blogspot.com/ Update 14 June 2012 HOUSTON—R. Allen Stanford, the once-highflying financier convicted of masterminding a $7 billion Ponzi scheme, was sentenced Thursday to 110 years in federal prison. The punishment amounts to an effective life sentence for Mr. Stanford, who is 62 years old and used to live extravagantly aboard yachts, jets and homes around the world. "I didn't run a Ponzi scheme, I didn't defraud anybody, and there was never any intent to defraud anybody," Mr. Stanford, wearing a green prison jumpsuit, told U.S. District Court Judge David Hittner before he was sentenced. In a rambling statement, marked with long pauses as he choked up and wiped away tears, Mr. Stanford accused the government of using "Gestapo tactics" and blamed it for the billions of...

More at cnbc.com September 2008 Stanford: It's Fun Being A Billionaire Last fall Sir Allen went on CNBC for a brief segment. Most of the attention has been focused on him saying it was fun being a billionaire, but I find the rest of the interview -- where's he's bragging about how they didn't get killed in the subprime debacle because they never felt like they could properly assess the "risk" -- far more entertaining and ironic. From Oscar Wilde to Harold Pinter and back to Pittsburgh's own PICT Classic Theatre, Artistic & Executive Director Alan Stanford spares no philosophy (or whisker) in delighting his patrons in the art and appeal of theatrical classics. As a promise to PICT donors, Alan agreed to shave his legendary beard if the company raised over $15k during Pittsburgh's "Day of Giving" - which it did. And this man-of-his-word upholds his end of the bargain with a live shaving on this very episode of 'Burgh Vivant! Listen to "The Full Martini"- the complete unedited interview in audio podcast to hear more of Alan's expert insight on Oscar Wilde, directing Harold Pinter, and the intriguing depths of WAITING FOR GODOT, playing June 5th through June 21st at PICT Classic Theatre.
