Bomê County

Bomê County (Tibetan: སྤོ་མེས་རྫོང།སྤོ་སྨད་རྫོང་, Wylie: sPo mes rDzong , Chinese: 波密县; Pinyin: Bōmì Xiàn) is a county of the Nyingchi Prefecture in the south-east of the Tibet Autonomous Region.

The population was 27,169 in 1999.

Bomai (sPo smad) or Boyü (sPo yul) (Pome or Poyul in Western accounts) was the seat of a quasi-independent kingdom until the early 20th century when troops of the Dalai Lama's Lhasa government integrated it forcefully into the central Tibetan realm.

The kingdom of sPo bo, or sPo yul (“country of sPo”) was an offshoot of the ancient dynasty of the first Tibetan kings of the Yarlung Valley. Its inhabitants had a reputation as fearsome savages which meant most travellers kept clear of it and so it was one of the least known areas in the Tibetan traditional feudal establishment.

Its isolation was also enhanced by the belief by a great number of Tibetans that in its borders was one of the 'hidden lands' or beyul (Standard Tibetan: sbas-yul) referred to in the prophecies of Guru Rinpoche. sPo ba’s area of control far exceeded the boundaries of Bomê County. The kingdom acted as a protecting power from the Klo pa tribes for the streams of Tibetan pilgrims searching for this Promised Land in the East Himalayas from the mid-seventeenth century. Its power extended south over the Doshong La pass, to include the location of one of these earthly paradises called Padma bkod (written variously Pema köd, Pemakö and Pemako), literally 'Lotus Array', a region in the North-Eastern Province of Upper Siang of Arunachal Pradesh. Accounts of this terrestrial paradise influenced James Hilton's Shangri-La. A period of instability overtook the kingdom after Chinese incursions in 1905 and 1911. By 1931 the Lhasa government had expelled the last Ka gnam sde pa ('king') and established two garrisons.

BOM (file format)

BOM is a computer file format used by the Mac OS X installer. BOM stands for "Bill Of Materials" and is used to determine which files to install, remove, or upgrade. A bill of materials, "BOM", contains all the files within a directory, along with some information about each file. File information includes: the file's Unix file permissions, its owner and group, its size, its time of last modification, and so on. Also included are a checksum of each file and information about hard links.

BOM (psychedelic)

BOM, or 3,4,5,beta-tetramethoxyphenethylamine, is a lesser-known psychedelic drug. It is the beta-methoxy analog of Mescaline. BOM was first synthesized by Alexander Shulgin. In his book PiHKAL (Phenethylamines i Have Known And Loved), the minimum dosage is listed as 200 mg, and the duration unknown. BOM produces few to no effects. Very little data exists about its pharmacological properties, metabolism, and toxicity.

Ritmo

Ritmo is the title of the fifth album by the British singer-songwriter Judie Tzuke, released in September 1983. The album peaked at number 26 in the UK.

The album was Tzuke's second and final studio album to be released during her contract with Chrysalis Records. Originally only released on vinyl album and cassette, it was remastered and released on compact disc in 1994 by BGO Records.

Nebiolo Printech

Nebiolo Printech S.p.A. is a manufacturer of printing presses and paper and formerly a type foundry. Nebiolo & Co. was created when Giovanni Nebiolo bought out the type foundry of G. Narizzano in Turin, Italy, in 1852. In 1908 the company merged with the Urania Company and operated under the name Augustea and began to buy out many smaller foundries. In 1916 it was again renamed Società Nebiolo. Fiat bought the press manufacturing business in 1978, turning the type business over to Italiana Caratteri. In 1992 it became Nebiolo Printech S.p.A. and continues to manufacture presses under that name today.

Type Foundry

Nebiolo created a large library of typefaces, which remain popular today, although the company never entered photocomposition. It also built a type caster that competed with the Ludlow Typograph. Nebiolo types were distributed in the United States by Continental Type Founders Association. The designer Aldo Novarese became art director in 1952. The matrices for Nebiolo types are still being used by Schriften-Service D. Stempel GmbH.

Uptown (film)

Uptown is a 2009 independent drama film written and directed by Brian Ackley as his debut feature film, and the second film in the One Way or Another Productions' "Naked Series".

Production

Uptown was shot in an 8 day period with 2 cameras, using only available light and "stolen" Manhattan locations, including scenes that take place in Central Park. After a 2-week production hiatus, it was discovered that one of the cameras had been damaged, rendering everything that was shot on it as unusable. Only a few of those "lost" scenes were reshot.

Actor Chris Riquinha states that he previously worked with producer Princeton Holt on Holt's earlier film Cookies & Cream and that it was Holt who recommended him to writer/director Brian Ackley.

According to the production company, after Uptown won several festival awards, and while the film was still in the festival circuit, the film was picked up for distribution.

Plot

Ben (Chris Riquinha), an aspiring filmmaker, is an unmarried man living in New York. He enjoys the single life but feels his life is missing something. He meets Isabel (Meissa Hampton), a woman unhappy in her marriage who is seeking intimacy. The bond between the two grows as they have repeated liaisons "uptown".

Uptown (song)

"Uptown" was the lead single in the U.S. to Prince's third album, Dirty Mind. Beginning with a lone drum intro, the track explodes into the keyboards of the chorus. The verses feature a more prominent funk guitar. The song breaks down to a more instrumental section toward the end that mainly consists of guitar, bass and drums with an occasional keyboard riff. The minimalist style of the song is representative of most of the Dirty Mind album. The song addresses the Uptown neighborhood of Minneapolis that was the city's hang-out spot for artists.

Background

The song addresses prejudices and racism, referring to "Uptown" as a metaphor for an ideal place that is free of such things. Prince sings in the first person, and the song opens describing a chance meeting with an attractive woman who then asks in an offensive way if he is gay. The lyrics then rail against prejudice and racism as narrow minded, and exalt in an attitude and spirit that is free of such negativity. It is one of Prince's earliest efforts to blend political statements into his art.
