Honda HSC

The Honda HSC (Honda Sports Concept) is a concept sports car that was initially unveiled at the 2003 Tokyo Motor Show. Most of the automotive media immediately speculated that it was designed to be a replacement for the Honda NSX, although this was never confirmed by Honda. It was also branded as an Acura.

The HSC featured a lightweight, mid-mounted aluminum 3.5 L (210 cu in) i-VTEC V6 engine with a 6-speed transmission controlled by either an F1-style paddle shifter on the steering wheel or a unique dial shifter on the center console. When shifted into reverse, the navigation system's adjustable flat-panel screen in the center console becomes a display for a rear-mounted camera. Abundant leather and aluminum trim pieces round out the interior, an all-aluminum frame with carbon fiber body panels keep it light, and swan doors affirm its sports car status.

The development of this car into a production sports car appeared to stall for two years. However, the July 2005 announcement by Honda CEO Takeo Fukui indicated the HSC was only a test concept for a pure sports car.

Honda Motor Co., Ltd. (本田技研工業株式会社, Honda Giken Kōgyō KK, IPA: [hoɴda]; /ˈhɒndə/) is a Japanese public multinational corporation primarily known as a manufacturer of automobiles, motorcycles and power equipment.

Honda has been the world's largest motorcycle manufacturer since 1959, as well as the world's largest manufacturer of internal combustion engines measured by volume, producing more than 14 million internal combustion engines each year. Honda became the second-largest Japanese automobile manufacturer in 2001. Honda was the eighth largest automobile manufacturer in the world behind General Motors, Volkswagen Group, Toyota, Hyundai Motor Group, Ford, Nissan, and PSA Peugeot Citroën in 2011.

Honda was the first Japanese automobile manufacturer to release a dedicated luxury brand, Acura, in 1986. Aside from their core automobile and motorcycle businesses, Honda also manufactures garden equipment, marine engines, personal watercraft and power generators, and other products. Since 1986, Honda has been involved with artificial intelligence/robotics research and released their ASIMO robot in 2000. They have also ventured into aerospace with the establishment of GE Honda Aero Engines in 2004 and the Honda HA-420 HondaJet, which began production in 2012. Honda has three joint-ventures in China (Honda China, Dongfeng Honda, and Guangqi Honda).

Honda Indy 200

The Honda Indy 200 is an Indy Racing League IndyCar Series race held at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.

The U.S. Formula 5000 series ran open wheel races at Mid-Ohio beginning in 1970. The race transferred to the revived Can-Am series in 1977.

The CART series debuted at the track in 1980, and continued to race there from 1983–2003. In 2007, American open wheel racing returned to the venue, when the Indy Racing League IndyCar Series held an event. The race used to be part of a doubleheader with the American Le Mans Series, however in ALMS chose not to return to the track during its final year, 2013. On November 21, 2006, it was announced that weekend of racing secured the sponsorship of Honda.

The history of open-wheel races has a unique footnote. The race has been won consecutively on six occasions, including four times in a row from 1991–1997. It is also one of only a few Indy car races to be won by two sets of fathers & sons. (Mario & Michael Andretti and Bobby & Graham Rahal).

Honda NC700 series

The Honda NC700 series is a family of motorcycles produced by Honda since 2012. NC700 series was a 'new concept' bike designed for commuters, new or veteran riders. The series also includes the motorcycle/scooter hybrid NC700D Integra. The NC700 series is classed as a commuter model bike which has incorporated design and mechanical elements from various motorcycle types. The riding position is similar to standard bike styles. There is a helmet-sized internal storage in place of the traditional fuel tank, which in turn is located under the seat. The series is often marketed as fun to ride, easy to handle and very fuel efficient.

NC700S

Basic model with naked bike styling. The NC700SA model is also available with the addition of a combined antilock braking system. The NC700SD has a dual-clutch transmission, which allows the rider to switch between manual gear shifts or automatic shifts.

NC700X

Styling of NC700X has reference to road and dual-sport motorcycles. It was released in late 2011 in Europe. The NC700XA model adds the combined antilock braking system.

Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron TWO (HELSEACOMBATRON TWO or HSC-2) (previously Helicopter Combat Support Squadron TWO (HC-2)), also known as the "Fleet Angels" (previously the "Circuit Riders"), is a helicopter squadron of the United States Navy based at Naval Station Norfolk operating the Sikorsky MH-60S Knighthawk. The Fleet Angels are a Fleet Replacement Squadron providing trained MH-60S crew to units on the East Coast.

History

The squadron was established as Helicopter Combat Support Squadron TWO (HC-2) on 1 April 1987 from components of several helicopter squadrons, including HC-6, HM-12, and HS-3. They originally were nicknamed the "Circuit Riders" but adopted the name Fleet Angels from the previous the earlier HC-2, the lineal predecessor of HU-2, one of the U.S. Navy's first two helicopter squadrons, which had been disestablished on 30 September 1977 after thirty years of service. In the early days of the squadron, they operated the Sikorsky SH-3 Sea King in UH-3H and UH-3H(ET) versions, as well as the Sikorsky MH-53E Sea Dragon.

HSC-6

Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 6 (HSC-6), also known as Indians is a helicopter squadron of the United States Navy established in 1956. The squadron was commissioned as Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron 6 (HS-6) and completed transition to Helicopter Sea Combat on 8 July 2011. Based at Naval Air Station North Island, HSC-6 is part of Carrier Air Wing 11 and deploys aboard the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN-68).

History

Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron 6 (HS-6) was established on 1 June 1956 aboard USS Princeton (CVS-37) midway between the islands of Formosa and Okinawa. Initially, the squadron flew the Sikorsky HO4S, but two years later transitioned to the Sikorsky HSS-1N Seabat and gained a new mission, anti-submarine warfare (ASW).

In April 1960, the squadron joined Carrier Anti-Submarine Group 53 aboard USS Kearsarge (CVS-33). In March 1962 the squadron again changed aircraft when the Sikorsky SH-3A Sea King entered the fleet. The Sea King, incorporating upgrades over the years, would take HS-6 into the 1990s. HS-6 recovered Mercury Program astronauts Wally Schirra in 1962 and Gordon Cooper in 1963. In 1966, during U.S. strikes into Vietnam, the Indians rescued 16 downed aviators, for which the squadron received the Navy Unit Commendation. A 7th Fleet Commendation followed in 1969 for services provided following the collision at sea between USS Frank E. Evans (DD-754) and HMAS Melbourne (R21). In 1971, the Indians recovered the crew of Apollo 14 returning from the moon. Later that year, the squadron deployed to the east coast to join Carrier Air Wing 7 aboard USS Independence (CVA-62) to conduct an evaluation of the emerging CV concept.
