Christopher Hein's, an assistant professor in the Department of Physical Science at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS), College of William and Mary, seminar entitled The Roll of Geomorphology on the Susceptibility of the Costal Zone to Climate Change given at the Fundamentals of Coastal Adaption Workshop held at Northeastern University on Sept 8, 2015. The workshop's website offers the follow description for this seminar: "Sea level is rising across much of the globe at rates not seen in over 5000 years, long before the development of permanent human settlement of the coast that we know today. Coastal populations, infrastructure and ecological communities will be directly affected over the next decades by this rising sea level, as well as by changes in the frequency and intensity of coastal storms and variability in sediment-supply rates. The response of coastal barrier islands and their associated backbarrier marshes, tidal flats, and lagoon systems to these changes will be driven by the interactions of climate change and sedimentary processes. This talk will address the complexities of coastal evolution and the importance of our ability to respond to interrelated changes in each of these drivers in forecasting the impact of future climate change on coastal evolution."
