Nickey Maxwell "Nick" Van Exel (born November 27, 1971) is a former American professional basketball player who is currently the head coach for the Texas Legends in the NBA Development League. Van Exel played for six teams in the National Basketball Association (NBA) from 1993 through 2006, and is a former NBA All-Star.
Van Exel was raised primarily by his mother, Joyce. He attended St. Joseph High School, a private high school in Kenosha, Wisconsin. He played from 1987 to 1989 and scored 1,282 points, including 772 as a senior. He led the WISAA (private schools) state tournament in scoring as a junior and senior when his team lost in the finals both years. He was named to the Associated Press all-state team as a senior.
Van Exel wanted to play college basketball, but his grades weren't high enough to qualify for a top-flight program, so he went to junior college at Trinity Valley Community College for two years. He applied himself to his studies and qualified to enroll at the University of Cincinnati and play for coach Bob Huggins.

3-23-1994. Both teams in 1994 were in the lottery (Lakers would pick Eddie Jones 10th and Mavs got Jason Kidd 3rd). However, the 93 & 94 Mavs were the worst team in NBA history over 2 seasons (11 wins and 13 wins). Even the other lottery teams were afraid to lose to them. This is one of a number of games from 94 that show Van Exel being the only future player with potential. Nick Van Exel giving TNT's new sideline reporter, Jalen Rose, a hard time.
A Texas jury sentenced the son of former NBA player Nick Van Exel to 60 years in prison Friday in the shooting death of a longtime friend. Nickey Maxwell Van Exel, 22, received the punishment after his father wept on the witness stand and apologized to the family of the victim, Bradley Bassey Eyo. The same jury found the younger Van Exel guilty of murder on Thursday. Prosecutors had sought a capital murder conviction. Nickey Van Exel fatally shot Eyo in December 2010 and dumped his body at Lake Ray Hubbard on the eastern outskirts of Dallas. His attorney had said the two were playing with a shotgun at Nickey Van Exel's Garland home and that Van Exel didn't know the gun was loaded. January 18 1997: Healthy Grant Hill vs rookie Kobe and Shaq in double OT. Hill had 34pts 15reb 14ast! Check his hangtime and crossover! Kobe, whom Chick mistook as Eddie Jones a few times, was the leading scorer for the Lakers, tying his career-high 21pts, but it was Grant Hill's triple-double and buzzer beating 3 that sent the game into OT. Shaq, who assaulted Grant Hill multiple times this game, came up with a game saving block on Hill at the end of the 1st OT. The Pistons would win in double OT. A young and healthy Grant Hill, here in his 3rd season, could be a dominant playmaker like LeBron and when he had to score could do Jordan-esque things like that post-up on Eddie Jones at the end. This 1 minute edit does no justice to how good Grant Hill was in this game so go check out the glor...
