Jonny here, right now I'm in Havana, and in this short film I'm going to explain a little about tourism in Cuba.
Most cultural holidays to Cuba will start in Havana, a city of magnificent decaying colonial architecture, monuments and parks, museums and galleries, music and bars and large old American cars.
But the first thing you'll probably notice wandering around Havana is the near total lack of consumerism. Cuba is still a communist country with no commercial influence from America, and as such there's almost no evidence at all of the large multinationals we're used to in the West; you won't find any Starbucks or McDonalds here. There are no billboards advertising Coca Cola, there are no glass fronted shopping malls. Which is actually really quite refreshing. The whole city gives you a sense of stepping back in time.
Here in Havana you should enjoy a tour of the cities main sites, an evening at the Bueno Vista Social Club, and trip to one of her many museums. You'll need at least a couple of days, its a very fun place.
In two weeks time Trinidad will celebrate its 500 anniversary. Founded only a few years after Christopher Columbus discovered the America's, the town shot to prominence in the 19th century as one of the world's largest exporters of sugar. With its fine plazas, palaces and churches, and its famous cobbled streets lined by colourful houses, it developed into masterpiece of colonial Caribbean architecture. So well preserved is the town that in 1988 it was awarded UNESCO World Heritage Status and today forms an important part of most cultural trips to the country.
From Trinidad you might continue east to visit the revolutionary centre of Santiago de Cuba, or head west to enjoy the amazing landscapes around Vinales. Or you might like to do something completely different.
Of course there are plenty of other things to enjoy in Cuba besides the cultural highlights Trinidad and Havana offer. Cuba is blessed with beautiful countryside through which to can go hiking, cycling and horse back riding. Right now I am at a government ranch called La Guabina, in Pinar del Rio province. Each year Wild Frontiers takes the place over to run a horse riding tour of the area and horse riding is primarily what I have come here to do. But if riding is not your thing, from here you can also go on wonderful walks, go fishing or boating on one of the regions many lakes, indulge in some bird watching, or just relax away from the more chaotic life urban Cuba has to offer.
And finally of course there are beaches. As an island over a 1000 kilometres in length, with the Gulf of Mexico on one side and the Caribbean Sea on the other, there are hundreds of wonderful beaches just waiting to be enjoyed. And in our experience, Cayo Levisa, where I am now, is one of the best.
Relatively close to Havana, and relatively small in size, Cayo Levisa offers all the usual activities you'd associate with a modern beach resort, like sailing, fishing snorkeling and diving, but is small enough to not have you feeling drowned by mass tourism. As with a number of other similar locations, Cayo Levisa offers a great way to round off your trip to Cuba.
Of course a cultural adventure to Cuba will not be for everyone. With luxury accommodation pretty much non-existent, transport pretty basic, the cuisine though in places surprisingly good, in others rather plain, and a service level that is at best eclectic, those looking for a high end experience will almost certainly be disappointed here.
But if you're the kind of traveller that is interested in seeing a country that hasn't really changed in the last 50 years, a place that has not been overwhelmed by all the trappings of modern consumerism, and are happy to go with the flow in one of the world's last remaining communist countries, then here in Cuba you will find one of the most friendly, authentic, historically interesting and culturally rich places in the whole of Latin America.
My advice is to come soon before it all changes.

Travel video about destination Cuba.
Basking in the Caribbean sun, the island of Cuba lies between sun and socialism, rumba and revolution. Havana is the capital. In 1553, the Spanish conquerors designated Havana’s harbour as a collection point for ships loaded with gold and silver from the new Spanish colonies and named the settlement, San Cristobal De La Habana.La Bodeguita Del Medio was once Hemmingway`s local and nowhere else is the ‘Mojito’ mixed better: three year old white rum, lime juice, soda, sugar, ice and mint. Whether it be the Teatro Marti, the Old Tobacco Factory, the famous Bacardi house, or the Floridita Bar, everywhere there is a feeling of nostalgia. When the Daiquiri is served, one almost expects Fidel Castro to be sitting at the next table. Pinar Del Rio is a small but busy town in which the Red Star and portraits of Che Guevara are displayed for all to see. In the old town, colourful houses with beautiful pillared corridors demonstrate the former wealth of the country’s independent tobacco growers. Time means little here. While observing life on the streets, one begins to think in the same relaxed tempo of the leisurely-smoked cigars. A visit to a tobacco factory is a must. Cuba’s cigars are world famous. Together with sugar, tobacco is the country’s most important export. The oldest geological formation in Cuba are the Mogotes, well-weathered limestone peaks which, supported by pillars, once covered a large complex of caves. Over many decades, subterranean rivers flooded the earth below and thus created these gigantic grottos. On seven manmade islands in the centre of the Cienaga De Zapata National Park, is the Indian village of Guama. This swampy nature reserve with its dense mangrove forest vegetation offers an ideal sanctuary for many rare water birds. No Cuban town has changed as little in two hundred years than that of Trinidad. In the 18th century, the city experienced great wealth and recognition due to the cultivation of sugar cane and the luxurious palaces and villas of the sugar barons still leave their mark on the city. Rich green tropical forests, tobacco country at the foot of mysterious mountain caves, humid tropical swamps, history, cigars and rum. Cuba is a colourful cocktail

Have you checked out my Travelling to the Okanagan/Kelowna video?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=laNv3grsgwk&list;=UUpoM7wnBaemk-YfGGPHZyRA
We just got back from an amazing trip to Cuba for a wedding so I wanted to share with you a few things I think you should know if you are thinking about travelling to Cuba or if its been a while since you have been there!
#1) RESEARCH your hotel before you book it!! I cant stress this enough. I didnt the first time I went and we had a really bad experience!!
#2) You need to bring proof of travel insurance when you visit Cuba. We just kept ours with our passports
#3) Be weary of the food and water. There was a couple of uncooked burgers that my friends got and unsanitary handling of meat. As long as you are weary and careful, you will be fine. I was very careful as I did not want to risk being sick on my vacation!! With the water, I always made sure I could crack the bottle open to make sure it was bottled water and if we ran out, we just bought more at the store as it is not that expensive.
#4) Bring an insulated mug!! At all inclusive resorts, the drinks they give you are in very small cups. So to avoid going back and forth to the bar all day, bring a big mug!!
Here is the link to the resort we stayed at:
http://www.memoriesresorts.com/en/resort/varadero.aspx
Please let me know if you have any questions or comments at all! Would love to hear from you guys.

Havana City is the capital city of Cuba, and one of the fourteen provinces of the Republic of Cuba.
Weather in Havana, Cuba
=======================
Cuba has a tropical climate, with warm, humid weather all year long, though cold temperatures have occured in the mountains before. Being surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean Sea, and the Gulf of Mexico, Cuba has warm water year round, with winter water temperatures at 75F, spring and fall temperatures at 78F and summer temperatures at 82F.
See in Havana, Cuba
=================
Museum of the Revolution and the Capitol Building.
Visit a live cigar factory. One offering tours is at the intersection of Peñalver and San Carlos (just 1 mile southwest of Old Havana La Habana Vieja), tickets can/should be bought in advance (10 CUC per person as of July 2014). English tours are available. Please note that there is no photography allowed. It is the place where you can also be sure to get the correct cigars in the shop - more expensive than 'street offers' - but the quality of these "street offers" is definitely questionable, . Note that the Partagas cigar factory just behind the Capitol Building has closed permanently since late 2011.
Havana Club Rum Factory. Go on a guided tour of Havana Club, one of Cuba's most famous rums. Most of the exhibits are subtitled in English and are fairly self-explanatory.
Walk along the Prado street in the evening. Great public space - unfortunately not illuminated at night. The Prado hums with street life, cafes and charm.
Walk along El Malecón. A favorite stroll for tourists and locals, a walk along the Malecon runs along the main streets of Havana and provides stunning views of the Bay.
Enjoy the glory of La Habana Vieja (The Old Town), some of it faded and crumbling - but there are many beautifully restored buildings as a result of the UNESCO World Heritage Site designation.
Plaza de la Revolución. Huge square dominated by a statue and monument of Jose Marti and the iconic image of Che Guevara adorning the Ministry of the Interior. Arrive either early or late, as it is often swamped by tourists and gets very hot during the day.
John Lennon Park in Vedado. Features the only statue of a western musician in Havana. Notable for the regularly stolen (and replaced) eyeglasses.
The US Special Interests building in Vedado, just off the Malecon. In the absence of a United States embassy in Cuba, this heavily fortified and guarded building is where Cuban citizens go to apply for US Visas. It was notable for displaying news which is unfiltered and not censored by the Cuban government on electronic billboards situated behind the windows of one of the floors, but these were switched off in 2009. It is also the focus for regularly staged protests.
Hotel Habana Libre in Vedado. The hotel housed Castro's soldiers for several days after they took Havana. It has an excellent selection of photos in the lobby along with one of the only 24 hour fast food restaurants in the city.
Enjoy extraordinary 360-degree views of the city using the large Camara Oscura in the old town.
The Catedral de San Cristobal in old Havana. Said to be the only example of a baroque construction that possesses asymmetrical features, one of the towers is wider than the other.
Plaza de Armas. Spacious and elegant, the square is surrounded by baroque constructions that give it a authentic colonial milieu.
Castillo de la Real Fuerza, Plaza des Armas. Castillo de La Real Fuerza is the oldest bastioned fortress in the New World and has now reopened as a Cuba’s premier maritime museum.
Do in Havana, Cuba
===============
Walk along the Malecón, the sea wall that runs along the Havana coastline. On weekends this is where the locals come to party, so bring a bottle and join in.
Latin American New Cinema Festival, [6] is a popular event held every December, screening international films and drawing around 500,000 people.
Tropicana Show — A cabaret show that costs 90CUC.
Take a tour in an old car — For around 20-30CUC an hour for up to four people, be driven around Havana in style. Choose a car you like near the Hotel Inglaterra or outside the Museum of the Revolution.
Go to the eastern beaches (Playas del Este) — There's a bus leaving from Hotel Inglaterra every 30 minutes. Price is 5 CUC for a roundtrip. The ride takes about 30 minutes.
Walk around Havana Vieja in the early mornings, or take a very long walking tour with "Havana Frans", a Dutch jazz photographer who lives in Havana.

[Travel World] Cuba Travel Guide
The colorful capital of Cuba, Havana is a mesmerizing city with beautiful colonial edifices and a dramatic coastline. The core of the city is the UNESCO World Heritage site of Old Havana. Known for it’s architecturally impressive plazas and outstanding series of fortifications, Old Havana displays Cuban Culture at it’s finest. Old Havana’s five plazas are home to churches, palaces, castles, monuments and markets that come together to create one of the most impressive historical city centers in the Caribbean basin. The complex defenses that once held off pirates are some of the oldest and largest colonial fortifications in the Americas, such as Castillo de la Real Fuerza which began construction in 1558.
The capital of Havana is far too interesting to see it all in just one day! We’ll spend our second day continuing to explore everything that makes Havana one of the greatest capitals in the Caribbean Basin. Catedral de San Cristóbal is one of the most beautiful churches in Havana. Plaza de Armas is where military drills once took place in the 16th century. Gran Teatro de la Havana, the Great Theater of Havana is famous for particularly for the acclaimed National Ballet of Cuba.

Anchor intro: In a new era of U.S.-Cuba relations - new waves of enthusiastic American tourists are expected to crash onto the island nation's shores. And that's causing some anxiety among Cuba's tropical neighbors- worried about the new competition for tourist dollars. Miami is no exception. As CCTV's Nitza Soledad Perez reported, officials there believe the answer to attracting more tourists, is right under their feet.

Cuba has just about everything you could imagine...
Cuba is among the most exciting islands in the caribbean. Whereas other islands have one or two major attractions: the beach, say, and perhaps one or two historic monuments.
There are dramatic mountainous landscapes, wild and unspoilt valleys, sweeping vistas of sugar cane, tobacco plantations glowing emerald green against the vermilion earth of the fields, seven exquisite cities dating from the mid-fifteenth century, an amazing variety of flora and fauna, some of the world’s most beautiful beaches and above all, Cuba’s greatest asset: her people. We are (though we say it ourselves) welcoming, enthusiastic, polite and alot of fun - and that’s putting it mildly.
Come and see for yourselves...

Jardines del Rey
Dubbed ‘the Cuban keys,’ the tiny islands of Jardines del Rey [the King’s Gardens], strung off Cuba’s Atlantic coast, are immortalized in Ernest Hemingway’s novel, Islands in the Stream. Mangroves and everglades, flamingos and roseate spoonbills, sun-bleached sand and turquoise waters make this little corner the perfect retreat.
Linked to the mainland by a causeway, Cayo Coco is Cuba’s most popular beach destination after Varadero. The cay boasts 22km of white-sand beaches, the perfect backdrop for water sports such as windsurfing, sailing, snorkeling and fishing.
Much smaller, Cayo Guillermo is famous for its sand dunes, which are among the tallest in the Caribbean, its deep-sea fishing and its connection to Ernest Hemingway. Here, you can fish where Papa Hemingway fished, and see his boat docked at its namesake beach.
The keys are in the province of Ciego de Ávila, Cuba’s fruit bowl thanks to its rich red soil. The provincial capital of the same name is a friendly ‘city of porches’ and home to one of Cuba’s best municipal museums. Recommended activities include freshwater fishing at Laguna Redonda or Laguna de la Leche, Cuba’s largest natural lake; and excursions to the historic military route, La Trocha, and weekend the rodeo on Isla Turiguanó.
Villa Clara
Villa Clara is a land of beaches, tobacco fields and lakes brimming with fish. It is home to the Buenavista Biosphere Reserve, which contains protected ecosystems that include mangroves, coral reefs, active dune zones, keys and reproductive zones for aquatic birds. On its northern coast, the 48 km el pedraplén causeway connects Villa Clara to the Cayerías del Norte, a series of tropical offshore islets, where the popular resort destinations of Cayo las Brujas and Cayo Santa María are located.
In the capital city, Santa Clara, you’ll find fascinating and historically significant sites commemorating the exploits of revolutionary Ernesto Che Guevara, among them the mausoleum containing Che Guevara’s remains, as well as several museums documenting his life.
To the west lies Remedios, a charming colonial town that hosts the famous Parrandas de Remedios, a festival featuring fireworks, floats and dancing in the streets each December.
Outdoor enthusiasts head south to Embalse Hanabanilla, one of Cuba’s largest lakes, noted for excellent bass fishing; and to the mighty Escambray Mountains beyond.
------------------------------------------
Pinar Del Rio
Not many regions in Cuba have the natural beauty of Pinar del Río. Blessed by nature, it treasures two of the six World Biosphere Reserves in the island. The charm of its flora and fauna is the main attraction of the province, so much so that it defines the characteristics of the tourism there: the land of the best tobacco in the world. Pinar del Río is a very interesting destination, for those who find in the contact with nature a good reason to travel.

#Fábrica de Arte Cubano #FAC #Cubawanderer #FortuneTraveller #Havana #Cuba
FAC Fábrica de Arte Cubano
Fábrica de Arte Cubano (F.A.C) holds a very special place in my heart, I love this venue and spend at least one night a week there. Why? because there is nowhere else like it, whether it’s London, New York, Rome or Paris, maybe, just maybe, Berlin could compete but that would be stretch, a shot in the dark. Located at the west end of Vedado before crossing the river into Miramar, don’t let that deter you from checking this place out. Not yet a tourist attraction, the real deal authentic contemporary cuban cultural scene.
A modern cultural Nirvana - a place of perfect peace and happiness. The concept of this venue beats any other venue because it is all done without any pretension that would accompany cities like Rome, London, NY and Paris. expression.
La Fabrica is and has many possibilities, both indoor and outdoor, theatre, exhibits, drama acts, cinema, nightclub, live music, art gallery, fashion & design, café & contemporary Bars. You’re not just visiting FAC it is a life changing experience as it’s buzzing with excitement, creativity and with spirit.
I enjoy a cheap killer strong Cuba Libre as I stroll around the white-wallled exhibitions and galleries, a maze-like area, whilst stumbling across small rooms on my way. A huge cinema screen upstairs, and downstairs the back hall, where I’ve listened to live bands play jazz, reggae/pop, junk, rock. I remember the night when I was the only British member of the audience at a tribute to the Beatles performed by over 10 different bands, that was just one Monday night in 2014, every night is different! We sit on furniture made from recycled materials watching a play or re-enactment of why Celia Cruz left Cuba, a warts and all no censorship performance, either in the script or no fear from the actors, or we gather outdoors under the night sky or within a variety of intimate indoor spaces.
If it were not for Cuba I would never have found the jazz pianist Roberto Fonseca, if it were not for F.A.C I would never have witnessed the brilliant ability of percussionist Yissy Garcia and her band. At the age of 25 Yissy Garcia had already become a leading iconic female figure in percussion in Cuba. Deciding to launch her solo career as a bandleader of a new musical project that encompasses latin jazz, funk and electronic music. Her session left me without words and a new identity with jazz.
For Director X Alfonso F.A.C is a labor of love with extremely talented curators and programming connoisseurs, a lifetime in the planning brings a quintessential multi-purpose factory of the arts experimental, culture, music, even poetry.
Part contemporary art space, part nightclub, mostly crowded, in a completely unique environment, experimental moments shared with cubans young and old, mostly young. Encounter works of artists of the future and witness contemporary dance and musical concerts which the rest of the world will have missed.
Now only open Thursday to Sunday, from 9pm with live events not starting until 11pm.
Best arrival by Collectivo/Maquina and get there for just 10 Cuban Pesos. On Linea just before the tunnel (Calle 18 - 20) to Miramar and cross over Linea towards Calle 11 away from the Malecoń and turn right onto Calle 11 (towards Puente de Hierro) then walk a few blocks down to Calle 26.
There is a small cover charge on the way in $2CUC or 50CUP, and you get a “card”, as you consume drink and food your card is stamped. Don't lose the card! The maximum the card can hold is $30 before been directed to pay and replacing your card. You pay for everything upon exiting the establishment. If you lose your card you pay the maximum, which is 30 CUC.

A fresh alternative to the mainstream guides. For new kind of “traveller” who is concerned with sharing, making and listening rather than consuming and judging.
Best Night Life in Havana
Looking for a local place on Saturday or Thursday night in Havana, Cuba. Then head to what locals know as El Diablo, Tun Tun and known to tourists as the piano bar, oh wait, no, tourist don’t go here.
Saturday’s night is live rock music and the crowd is young, highly educated, bright and very happy. Music in Cuba does not have limited or definite by the age of those listening, but the quality on what’s been played. Remember all cuban ears have perfect pitch registers built-in, therefore only the best music and voices are recognised, appreciated and played. Cubans instinctually only listen to the best music.
The musical genre as moves from I’m walking on sunshine, followed by rage against the machine and then Metallica. Only our own conceptual understanding of music, that limits us and not cubans. Now I’m dancing to Jive Bunny with a room full of 20s something old years, who not only think they are cool or hip by jiving and doing the twist, they are too, as they can really jive better than people in the 1960s, like my parents, its almost frustrating how good they are.
The crowd, are so energetic, so positive, completely captivate and in the control of the rock gods bands playing in front of us. In El Diablo there are no limits on music its only you that holds back.
Literally right upstarts from Casa de la Música in Miramar, between avenida 33 y 33.

Cuba without Fidel (Documentary of 2013 from the series "I Love Democracy")

A journey made at a key moment, as the debate surrounding post-Castro Cuba is more prevalent than ever before; Raul Castro himself has declared, “The country must change to avoid sinking.” It ha

Travel video about destination Trinidad.
Located to the south of the Caribbean island of Cuba, Trinidad was founded by the Spaniard, Velazquez and in the 18th century the city experienced great wealth and recognition through the cultivation of sugar cane. The exclusive palaces and villas of the sugar barons still leave their mark on the city with tall wooden gates, barred windows and original roof tiles that characterise the style of bygone days. The Palacio Padron is located on the Plaza Mayor, the centre of the city. A few years ago the palace was lovingly restored in painstaking detail and transformed into an archaeological museum. Around the main square the most beautiful palaces stand in rows and are an impressive indicator of the colonial lifestyle enjoyed by the former sugar aristocracy. The slave trade and the cultivation of sugar cane made the island’s inhabitants incredibly wealthy and Trinidad became the most important cultural and trade centre in the whole of Cuba. The former palace of the Cantero sugar barons now houses the Museo De Historia, an impressive building in the Calle Bolivar in which visitors can marvel at old timepieces, porcelain, furniture and valuable crystal chandeliers. The seven storey Torre De Iznaga rises menacingly into the sky, the bells of which once summoned the plantation slaves to work while watchmen surveyed the valley from above because of the fears of the plantation owners who believed that one day the slaves would rebel against them. Splendid exotic beauty in a land situated between sun and socialism, sugar and cigars, rumba and revolution. In Trinidad it is as though everything is in a state of suspended animation waiting to be kissed awake.

WORLD TRAVEL (EUROPE, ASIA, AFRICA, AMERICAS...)
Cuba, officially the Republic of Cuba, is an island country in the Caribbean. The nation of Cuba comprises the main island of Cuba, the Isla de la Juventud and several archipelagos. Havana is the capital of Cuba and its largest city. The second-largest city is Santiago de Cuba.[13][14][15] To the north of Cuba lies the United States (150 km (93 mi) away), the Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands are to the northeast, Mexico is to the west (210 km (130 mi) away), the Cayman Islands and Jamaica are to the south and Haiti and the Dominican Republic are to the southeast.
The island of Cuba was inhabited by numerous Mesoamerican Indian tribes prior to the landing of explorer Christopher Columbus in 1492, who claimed it for the Kingdom of Spain. Cuba remained a colony of Spain until the Spanish–American War of 1898, after which it gained nominal independence as a de facto U.S. protectorate in 1902. The fragile republic endured increasingly radical politics and social strife, and despite efforts to strengthen its democratic system, Cuba came under the dictatorship of former president Fulgencio Batista in 1952.[16][17][18] Growing unrest and instability led to Batista's ousting in January 1959 by the July 26 movement, which afterwards established a government under the leadership of Fidel Castro. Since 1965 the country has been governed as a single-party state by the Communist Party.
Cuba is the largest island in the Caribbean, and with over 11 million inhabitants, is the second-most populous after Hispaniola, albeit with a much lower population density for the region. It is a multiethnic country whose people, culture and customs derive from diverse origins, including the aboriginal Taíno and Ciboney peoples, the long period of Spanish colonialism, the introduction of African slaves, a close relationship with the Soviet Union during the Cold War, and proximity to the United States.
Cuba today is the only remaining communist state to receive a "very high" human development ranking from the United Nations, and ranks well in measures of health and education.

Of Cuba, we often only show its capital city, Havana, or its folklore. As the country’s general elections are heating up, this film, in the shape of a road movie, will allow us to travel across the island. A journey made at a key moment, as the debate surrounding post-Castro Cuba is more prevalent than ever before; Raul Castro himself has declared, “The country must change to avoid sinking.” It has indeed been a year since Cubans started being able to work for their own bread. Another proof of the “revolution” prompted by Raul Castro, Fidel’s brother and heir to his throne, is enabling his fellow citizens to legally acquire and sell their homes or even their vehicles. What impact does that hold upon the daily lives of Cubans? From Santiago de Cuba, the nation’s second most important city and starting point to its “revolutionary pathway”, we’ll be meeting a hairdresser who has just began working independently, a state-employed single mother from a backwoods town in the mountains who is struggling to make ends meet, a former administration executive who left his job to try his hand at agriculture, and even a priest whose celebration of the Virgin Mary equals that of the nation’s flag. Our journey across the sugarcane fields towards the nation’s capital will help understand the inner workings of a worn-out socialist system desperately attempting to jam its unavoidable decline, at least economically, by visiting a factory that has long been shut down and whose reopening is awaited like the Messiah. Our narrative will also include striking videos recorded by dissidents as well as archival footage. Beyond the revolutionary fables, what of the school and health systems still considered brands of the regime? What are a 20-year-old’s dreams made up of in Cuba? From a former barracks converted into a school, to the hospitals’ interiors, the film demonstrates the gap between reality and bygone revolutionary fantasies. As we go through shops, marketplaces, we witness firsthand the Kafkaesque effects of the dual currency system the Cubans must deal with to satisfy their most basic needs. And all along our journey, as we also decipher what went on behind the scenes of the shoot, what with our local guide who was as much an assistant as he was a censor, we draw as close as possible to the complex reality of a political system clinging to its last breath… Our road movie broadens its reach through the interviews led by Daniel Leconte with important political figures, intellectuals such as the Eduardo Manet, or even the Cuban journalist Julio Cesar Galvez Rodriguez.

Travel video about destination The Caribbean.
Haiti is the starting point of this journey in the Caribbean. Since the time of Columbus it has been the European idyll of paradise set amid a distant ocean. But beyond the dream is the fact that its original inhabitants were wiped out and replaced with African slaves. Now independent states have gradually emerged from the dark shadows of an inglorious past.Jamaica is another Caribbean paradise and its second largest city, Montego Bay, is the starting point for tourists from all over the world. One of its attractions is Harmony Hall, a fine manor house situated on a turn of the century plantation. Kingston is the capital of Jamaica and the island’s political, economic and cultural centre, a former pirate stronghold that is a lively mixture of joie de vivre and reggae. Nassau is the capital of New Providence Island and is one of more than seven hundred islands in the Bahamas archipelago. Paradise Island is the most modern and spectacular resort in the Bahamas with Atlantis the largest entertainment oasis in the world. It was created by South African hotel tycoon whose mega luxury resort boasts an array of amazing LA-style casinos and entertainment facilities. Havana is a Caribbean metropolis that for many years has become somewhat run down and neglected but nowhere else are the cocktails mixed better! Whether it be the Teatro Marti, the Old Tobacco Factory, the famous Bacardi house or the Floridita Bar, everywhere there is a feeling of nostalgia and when the Daiquiri is served one almost expects Fidel Castro or Ernest Hemmingway to be seated at the next table. Cuba and the Caribbean are a melting pot of colonial culture and an overgrown and abundant Garden of Eden!

Travel video about destination Bahamas.
Nassau is the capital of the island of New Providence which is one of the many islands of the Bahaman archipelago that extends for almost a thousand kilometres between Cuba and Florida in the Atlantic Ocean. New Providence is the commercial and political centre and is more commonly known as the Bahamas.Built between 1805 and 1813 in typical American southern style, the pink-coloured buildings of Parliament Square are the headquarters of the Bahamian government. In front of the white columned Neo-Classical parliament building is a noble statue of the English queen, Victoria, as a young girl. The colourful Caribbean Straw Market is a lively place. There are lots of fascinating things to see including skilful craftsmen who carve traditional objects from mahogany. Bags, baskets and hats made of straw are offered as souvenirs. Along the coast there are several caves in which pirates once hid their ill-gotten gains or argued over buried treasure. Cable Beach boasts a multitude of exquisite modern hotel complexes that cater for every need and several of them possess a casino. Naturally, each has its own lavish bathing areas and a vast choice of exciting entertainment. On a small hill on the western outskirts of Nassau is Fort Charlotte, today a popular tourist destination on the periphery of the city The Bahamas: the very name conjures up remote sandy beaches and turquoise blue water, romantic sunsets and tropical nights. A place where fantastic dreams become wonderful reality.
