Assam or Ahom was ancient kingdom in northeast India. Ahom language belong to Tai-Kadai language family and related to Thai and Laotian.
"Sue kaa pha" the kingdom founder, is a Shan prince who came from Shan state in Myanmar to northeast India (between Himalaya and Brahmaputra basin). Ahom community from Assam showcases Ahom dance during Rongali Bihu celebration organised by Assam Association Delhi at Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), Delhi.
The Ahom are the descendants of the ethnic Tai people that accompanied the Tai prince Sukaphaa into the Brahmaputra valley in 1228 and ruled the area for six centuries. Sukaphaa and his followers established the Ahom kingdom (1228–1826) and the Ahom dynasty ruled and expanded the kingdom until the British gained control of the region through the Treaty of Yandabo upon winning the First Anglo-Burmese War in 1826.
It was merriment time for the Assamese community in the capital who swayed to the reverberating tunes of bihu songs and dance at a mega celebration here in the capital.
The affluence and abundant endowment of nature in the Assam valley during this time of the year is rightly reflected in the spirit of Rongali Bihu, celebrated in the first Assamese month of Bohag.
At the celebrations, Assamese people both young and old, from neighbouring satellite cities of Ghaziabad, Gurgaon and Noida apart from Delhi poured in.

The Ahom are the descendants of the ethnic Tai people that accompanied the Tai prince Sukaphaa into the Brahmaputra valley in 1228 and ruled the area for six centuries. Sukaphaa and his followers established the Ahom kingdom (1228–1826) and the Ahom dynasty ruled and expanded the kingdom until the British gained control of the region through the Treaty of Yandabo upon winning the First Anglo-Burmese War in 1826.
It was merriment time for the Assamese community in the capital who swayed to the reverberating tunes of bihu songs and dance at a mega celebration here in the capital.
The affluence and abundant endowment of nature in the Assam valley during this time of the year is rightly reflected in the spirit of Rongali Bihu, celebrated in the first Assamese month of Bohag.
At the celebrations, Assamese people both young and old, from neighbouring satellite cities of Ghaziabad, Gurgaon and Noida apart from Delhi poured in.
