Justinian the Great
My tribute to the Byzantine Emperor Justinian
Justinian was born in Tauresium in the Roman province of Dardania in AD 483. His Latin-speaking peasant family is believed to have been of Thraco-Roman or Illyro-Roman origins.
The cognomen Iustinianus which he took later is indicative of adoption by his uncle Justin. During his reign, he founded Justiniana Prima not far from his birthplace, today

The Plague of Justinian I
Justinian I (c. 482 – 14 Nov. 565), traditionally known as Justinian the Great and also Saint Justinian the Great in the Eastern Orthodox Church, was a Byzantine (East Roman) emperor from 527 to 565.
During his reign, Justinian sought to revive the empire's greatness and reconquer the lost western half of the historical Roman Empire. One of the most important figures of late antiquity and possib

Dark Ages - The Plague of Justinian
By the middle of the 6th century, the Emperor Justinian had spread his Byzantine Empire around the rim of the Mediterranean and throughout Europe, laying the groundwork for what he hoped would be a long-lived dynasty.
His dreams were shattered when disease-bearing mice from lower Egypt reached the harbor town of Pelusium in AD 540. From there, the devastating disease spread to Alexandria and, b

Justinian arose from humble roots, the nephew of an illiterate pig farmer named Justin. Justin joined the army and rose to become leader of the palace guard, then took his nephew under his wing and made sure that he was well educated. When Emperor Anastasius died, Justin used his position (and his standing army inside Constantinople) to claim the crown for himself. His nephew guided the early years of his reign, helping Justin secure support both in the capitol and abroad. When Justin died, rule of the Byzantine Empire passed to the young Justinian, who had grand ambitions to restore its waning glory. It also freed him to marry Theodora, a famous actress who was far beneath his social station, and who would also rise from her humble beginnings to become a revered empress.

Justinian wanted to restore the glory of Rome, but many obstacles stood in his way. He brought on talented advisors to help him reform the tax system, the law code, and the military might of the empire. With them he made great strides, but these advisors had very human flaws. His tax collector, John the Cappadocian, centralized tax collection and crushed corruption in his agents, greatly increasing the revenue to the empire - but he also skimmed money off the top to feed his private corruption. Meanwhile, a lawyer named Tribonian took centuries of confusing and even conflicting legal precedents and resolved them into a single code, the Corpis Juris Civilis, which remains the foundation of modern law today. He even made a textbook for students to learn from. But he was also a practicing pagan during an era when Justinian was trying to crack down on pagan rituals. And last, Justinian's chief military commander Belisarius helped the Empire recover its military glory. He defeated the Sassanid Persians in the Battle of Dara, crushing a force of 50,000 men with only 25,000 of his own through clever strategy: he dug a trench to halt their infantry's advance, then baited the Persian cavalry into overextending and sprang a surprise attack on them with Hun mercenaries. Although Belisarius seems to have been an upstanding person, his personal historian Procopius tainted even his clean record. Procopius wrote glowing official histories of the reign of Justinian, but his long lost secret history depicted Justinian as a literal headless demon and Theodora as a debauched monster.

Mediolanum had fallen. Belisarius wrote a furious letter to Justinian explaining what happened, and the emperor immediately recalled Narses and reaffirmed Belisarius's leadership. His army tore through the Ostrogothic territory and soon laid siege to Ravenna, which they brought to the brink of surrender. But the Ostrogothic King Vitiges had written to the Persian Empire urging them to take advantage of Rome's distraction. Sure enough, Justinian found himself faced with a Persian army in the East, and he sent orders to Belisarius to leave Ravenna and return to defend Constantinople. Belisarius hated seeing his victory snatched from him, however, and almost refused to do it. Hearing of his displeasure, the Ostrogoths reached out to him and offered to make him their new king - no surrender necessary. Belisarius accepted their proposal, then immediately turned on them and declared the city for Justinian. Still, his greed cost the empire time. Justinian was furious that Belisarius had disobeyed his orders to return and wasted precious months solidifying control over the Ostrogoths while Persia threatened to overrun the heart of the empire. He could no longer trust his most valued general.

Belisarius had broken the siege around Rome. Now he wanted to push on to the Ostrogothic capital in Ravenna, so Justinian sent fresh troops with new commanders: Narses and John. Belisarius ordered John to take his cavalry north and secure the route the Ravenna, but John bypassed several cities that seemed too difficult until he was offered a willing surrender by the people of Ariminum. When Belisarius ordered him to return to the main army, John refused, and soon found himself surrounded by the same forces he'd declined to fight earlier. Narses insisted that they rescue him, so Belisarius devised a plan and tricked the Ostrogoths into thinking his force was larger than it really was, so they fled without joining battle. John gave all the credit for his rescue to Narses, and a divide grew between the old guard loyal to Belisarius and the new troops loyal to Narses. Even though Belisarius had a letter from Justinian giving him sole control of the army, Narses argued over the semantics of the order and continued to do as he liked. He roped Belisarius into besieging Urbinus, then decided to abandon his own plan and return to Ariminum. Belisarius took Urbinus by a stroke of luck and wanted to send reinforcements to the Ostrogoth-besieged city of Mediolanum, supposedly under Roman protection, but John would only accept orders from Narses and stalled until after the city fell. When Roman troops finally arrived in Mediolanum, they found the entire city butchered and burned to the ground.

During his reign, he founded Justiniana Prima not far from his birthplace, today in South East Serbia. His mother was Vigilantia, the sister of Justin. Justin, who was in the imperial guard (the Excubitors) before he became emperor, adopted Justinian, brought him to Constantinople, and ensured the boy's education. As a result, Justinian was well educated in jurisprudence, theology and Roman history. Justinian served for some time with the Excubitors but the details of his early career are unknown.
When Emperor Anastasius died in 518, Justin was proclaimed the new Emperor, with significant help from Justinian. During Justin's reign (518--527), Justinian was the Emperor's close confidant. Justinian showed much ambition, and it has been thought that he was functioning as virtual regent long before Justin made him associate Emperor on 1 April 527, although there is no conclusive evidence for this. As Justin became senile near the end of his reign, Justinian became the de facto ruler. Justinian was appointed consul in 521, and later commander of the army of the east. Upon Justin I's death on 1 August 527, Justinian became the sole sovereign.
As a ruler, Justinian showed great energy. He was known as "the Emperor who never sleeps" on account of his work habits. Nevertheless, he seems to have been amenable and easy to approach. Justinian's family came from a lowly and provincial background, and therefore he had no power base in the traditional aristocracy of Constantinople. Instead, he surrounded himself with men and women of extraordinary talent, whom he selected not on the basis of aristocratic origin, but on the basis of merit.
Around 525 he married in Constantinople Theodora, who was by profession a courtesan about 20 years his junior. Justinian would have, in earlier times, been unable to marry her because of her class, but his uncle Emperor Justin I had passed a law allowing intermarriage between social classes. Theodora would become very influential in the politics of the Empire, and later emperors would follow Justinian's precedent in marrying outside the aristocratic class. The marriage caused a scandal, but Theodora would prove to be very intelligent, "street smart", a good judge of character and Justinian's greatest supporter. Other talented individuals included Tribonian, his legal adviser; Peter the Patrician, the diplomat and longtime head of the palace bureaucracy; his finance ministers John the Cappadocian and Peter Barsymes, who managed to collect taxes more efficiently than any before, thereby funding Justinian's wars; and finally, his prodigiously talented general Belisarius.
Justinian's rule was not universally popular; early in his reign he almost lost his throne during the Nika riots, and a conspiracy against the Emperor's life by dissatisfied businessmen was discovered as late as 562.
Justinian was struck by the plague in the early 540s but recovered. Theodora died in 548, perhaps of cancer, at a relatively young age; Justinian outlived her by almost twenty years. Justinian, who had always had a keen interest in theological matters and actively participated in debates on Christian doctrine, became even more devoted to religion during the later years of his life. When he died, on the night of November 13--14 of the year 565, he left no children. He was succeeded by Justin II, who was the son of his sister Vigilantia, and married to Sophia, the niece of Empress Theodora. Justinian's body was entombed in a specially built mausoleum in the Church of the Holy Apostles.

____________
A group of monks declared sanctuary for two hooligans from the demes (Constantinople's fanatical chariot racing factions) who had miraculously survived a hanging. The public wanted them pardoned for their crimes, so when Justinian made his public appearance at the next chariot race, they begged him to have mercy. When Justinian refused, the crowd turned on him and became a rioting mob that tore through the streets of Constantinople. During the Nika Riots, they burned down neighborhoods and even the Hagia Sophia cathedral, rampaging until Justinian agreed to pardon the two men from the demes. Now, however, the mob would not accept that. They demanded that he fire his advisors. Then they decided to appoint their own emperor, a man named Hypatius who was related to the previous emperor Anastasius. Assaulted on all sides, Justinian made plans to flee, only to be confronted by Theodora. She gave a now famous speech asking whether he would rather live a failure or die an emperor, announcing that she would choose the latter. Justinian followed her lead and made new plans to retake his city. He called Belisarius and Mundus, his best generals, to marshal a force. He also sent the eunuch Narses to bribe one faction of the demes and begin dismantling their leadership. Then he ordered his forces to invade the Hippodrome, where they cut down some thirty thousand civilians and executed the false emperor Hypatius. Justinian's reign was once again secure.

____________
The conquest of Carthage and the North African provinces was just the beginning for Justinian's ambition. He must have Rome. But like Carthage, he must find a reason to attack the Ostrogoths who now hold it. And like Carthage, this reason is given to him when the Ostrogothic Queen Amalsuntha, his ally, is murdered. But unlike Carthage, Belisarius now has only 7500 men, barely half of what he had for North Africa. He sails out anyway, making his first stop at the island of Sicily. All the cities except Panormus surrender to him, and Panormus he takes quickly by seizing their harbor with his ships. Meanwhile, Justinian has bribed the Franks to invade Italy from the north while another his generals marches from the east. But just when the Ostrogothic king is on the verge of surrender, disaster strikes. The other Byzantine general dies, and Belisarius is forced to return to Carthage to quell a revolt. The conquest loses its momentum and the Ostrogothic king imprisons the Roman ambassador. Justinian will not be stopped, and orders Belisarius to return to Italy once North Africa is secure. Alone, Belisarius marches up the coast of Italy until he meets resistance at Neapolis. With his forces too thinned to mount a siege, he engineers a sneak attack by invading through the pipe of a dried, broken aqueduct. Neapolis falls and the way now lies open to Rome.

Belisarius has only just taken Neapolis when the king of the Ostrogoths is overthrown. The new king, Vitiges, withdraws from Rome entirely to consolidate his power, allowing Belisarius to take Rome without a fight. But after Vitiges gathers his troops, he marches to retake Rome. He springs a surprise attack on Belisarius at the Salarian Bridge, which the Roman general barely escapes. Now he must survive in a city under siege, invening ship mills to continue producing the grain that feeds the city and training the civilians as soldiers. He holds off the Ostrogoths until reinforcements from Justinian arrive. After an indecisive battle, he agrees to a truce with Vitiges, which gives him time to position his troops. When the Ostrogoths break the truce, Belisarius is ready for them and crushes their force to drive them finally out of Rome.

____________
Thirty-nine days after the disastrous Nika Riots ended with the slaughter of 30,000 civilians, Justinian directed the city to rebuild the Hagia Sophia. Together, they built an even greater cathedral - but Justinian was not satisfied. He was called a Roman emperor, but he did not rule Rome itself. He resolved to reconquer the west, starting with Carthage in Africa, which had been conquered by Vandal tribes and turned into the seat of their budding empire. When the cousin of the Vandal king overthrew him for being pro-Roman and a follower of Rome's orthodox Christianity, Justinian had his excuse for war. He stirred up rebellion in the Vandal colonies, creating a distraction while he sent his general Belisarius to Carthage with a small army of men. Belisarius landed successfully and moved on Carthage, winning the support of the local people on his way. Gelimer teamed up with his brothers in two separate attempts to crush Belisarius and drive him out of Carthage, but after both of his brothers died, Gelimer lost his will to fight. He broke, and the Vandal resistance broke with him. Justinian awarded Belisarius a triumph, the greatest honor a Roman general could receive, but it would turn out to be the last formal triumph Rome would ever see.

The Early Middle Ages, 284--1000 (HIST 210)
Professor Freedman opens by discussing why historians use the writings of Procopius and Gregory of Tours, a sixth century bishop whose history of the Merovingian kings is discussed the following week. Procopius's three works -- The Wars, the adulatory Buildings, and the invective Secret History -- are the best sources on the reign of the Emperor Justinian. Under Justinian and his wife Theodora, the Roman Empire reached its height as it reclaimed territories in North Africa and Europe previously lost to the Vandals, Visigoths and Ostrogoths.. However, defeats in war accompanied by heavy taxation led to civil unrest. In addition to the wars, Justinian commissioned a number of large projects like the building of the Hagia Sophia and the organization of Roman law in the Corpus Iuris Civilis.

One of the most important figures of late antiquity and possibly the last Roman emperor to speak Latin as a first language, Justinian's rule constitutes a distinct epoch in the history of the Later Roman empire. The impact of his administration extended far beyond the boundaries of his time and domain. Justinian's reign is marked by the ambitious but only partly realized renovatio imperii, or "restoration of the Empire".
Because of his restoration activities, Justinian has sometimes been called the "last Roman" in modern historiography. This ambition was expressed by the partial recovery of the territories of the defunct western Roman empire. His general, Belisarius, swiftly conquered the Vandal kingdom in North Africa, re-extending Roman control to the Atlantic Ocean. Subsequently Belisarius, Narses, and other generals conquered the Ostrogothic kingdom, restoring Dalmatia, Sicily, Italy, and Rome to the empire after more than half a century of rule by the Ostrogoths. The prefect Liberius reclaimed most of southern Iberia, establishing the province of Spania. These campaigns re-established Roman control over the western Mediterranean, increasing the Empire's annual revenue by over a million solidi. During his reign Justinian also subdued the Tzani, a people on the east coast of the Black Sea that had never been under Roman rule before.
A still more resonant aspect of his legacy was the uniform rewriting of Roman law, the Corpus Juris Civilis, which is still the basis of civil law in many modern states. This work was carried out primarily by his quaestor Tribonian. His reign also marked a blossoming of Byzantine culture, and his building program yielded such masterpieces as the church of Hagia Sophia, which was to be the center of Eastern Orthodox Christianity for many centuries. A devastating outbreak of bubonic plague in the early 540s marked the end of an age of splendour. The Empire entered a period of territorial decline not to be reversed until the 9th century.
Procopius provides the primary source for the history of Justinian's reign. The Syriac chronicle of John of Ephesus, which does not survive, was used as a source for later chronicles, contributing many additional details of value. Both historians became very bitter towards Justinian and his empress, Theodora. Other sources include the histories of Agathias, Menander Protector, John Malalas, the Paschal Chronicle, the chronicles of Marcellinus Comes and Victor of Tunnuna.

From there, the devastating disease spread to Alexandria and, by ship, to Constantinople, Justinian's capital, before surging throughout his empire.
By the time Justinian's plague had run its course in AD 590, it had killed as many as 100 million people -- half the population of Europe -- brought trade to a near halt, destroyed an empire and, perhaps, brought on the Dark Ages.
Most historians consider the reign of Justinian (527-565) as marking a significant break with the Roman past. This is difficult to support—Justinian not only considered himself the emperor of all of Rome, including the territories occupied by the Goths, but also spoke Latin as his primary language.
After the fall of Rome, the Byzantine emperors never gave over the idea of reconquering Rome. They did, however, take a lesson from the fall of Rome and all throughout the fifth century, the Byzantine emperors wrought a series of administrative and financial reforms. They produced the single most extensive corpus of Roman law in 425 and reformed taxation dramatically. Most importantly, however, they did not entrust their military to German generals—this had been the downfall of the Latin portion of the empire. They could not, however, maintain a powerful military—the loss of territory in the west had dramatically shrunk their financial resources.
Justinian was perhaps the last emperor that seriously entertained notions of reconquering the west—the institution of the western emperor fell permanently vacant in 476 and the Byzantine emperors claimed as theirs. His expeditions against Italy, however, failed. Although he conquered North Africa and retook Italy from the Ostrogoths, this Gothic War drained the Byzantine Empire of much-needed resources. Most importantly, the Gothic War devestated Italy economically. The economic destruction of Italy was so total that it destroyed Italian urban culture for centuries. The great cities of Rome and her allies would be abandoned as Italy would fall into a long period of backwardness. The impoverishment of Italy and the drain on Byzantium made it impossible for the Byzantines to hold Italy—only three years after the death of Justinian, the Italian territories fell into the hands of another Germanic tribe, the "Long Beards," or Langobardi (Lombards).

The Roman Empire continued through the 400s and 500s – at Constantinople.
A sub-Roman order settled on the West, presided over by Theodoricus in Italy, with Goths forming the ruling élite in Spain and Franks that of Gaul. A new Roman emperor, Justinian, launched a great war to reunite the West to Constantinople, which largely succeeded.
But the Black Death and the struggle with the great power of Parthia in the east undermined the Roman state’s hold on Italy, where its allies the Lombards descended and took half of the peninsula. The Goths in Spain and the Franks in Gaul took over Roman territories and underwent a process of political consolidation, forming the kernel of a future European political paradigm that differed from the Roman one.
In 613 the Sassanids launched an invasion of the Roman Empire, taking Syria and Egypt. A Great War ensued, in which the Roman Emperor Heraclius was ultimately triumphant.
But both the civilized great powers, Roman and Persian, had exhausted one another. To their south in the deserts of Arabia, their Nemesis was stirring – Islam.

Also known by the name Flavicus Anicius Justinianus (483 - 565) and "The Emperor who never sleeps", Justinian I made his mark in history as the man who made it his mission to rekindle the greatness of the Roman Empire, and who compressed and organized the outdated laws of the Roman government. Justinian was also the last emperor to speak Latin as a first language, and he was said to have spoken Greek with a barbarian accent. Justinian's hallmark quality was his high energy, compulsive work habits. He showed a remarkable stamina for being able to go without much food or sleep for extended periods whenever he was working on a project, which was almost constant.
His dreams of rebuilding Rome to its former glory was crippled by the first well-documented pandemic of 541 known as the "Plague of Justinian", which killed 10,000 people a day in Constantinople during its first outbreak, and over the span of the next 200 years wiped out nearly half of Europe's population.
*Justinian was a great architect, and the largest of his commissions, The Eye of Sophia, still stands today as an everlasting monument to the church, himself, and his wife Theodora.
*Justinian was also deeply religious, though in his later life began to turn to heresy.
*Justinian never produced any heirs with his wife Theodora, and so upon his death in 565 his crown was passed down to his nephew, Justin II.
*Justinian I's appearance is variously described as "fair skinned with a ruddy complexion, curly haired, round faced, and handsome with an eagle-like nose. Some sources claim he bore a resemblance to Emperor Domitian, which could either have referred to the possibility of Justinian being blonde or simply that he shared similar facial features.

Admiral Ramon Leon del Mar, in one of his more bizarre disguises, interviews Emperor Justinian and Baron von Lahey. Emperor Justinian of the Red Fork Empire explains how he and the giant metal hand powered by the will of the people wage war on the boring and the dull and encourage people to find within themselves the path to creativity and imagination which make the multi-verse a much more fun place to be! Baron von Lahey, of the Wandering Legion of Thomas Tew, traveled thousands of leagues to bring us the message of hope and inspiration, not to mention his fleet of "Entertainment and Pleasure" focused Airships, so as to ensure the victory over the boring, dull, and mundane at Clockwork Con in Austin, Texas 2012.

This interview is part of our first dKapture series about inspiration!
We are gathering inspirational testimonials from all over the world to spread enthusiasm and share this common emotion we have that pushes us to do great things.
Join us and let us know what inspires you, what fills you with emotion, what makes you feel alive, what reveals the real you! Ask people you love. Ask people you are curious about. Ask people you admire what inspires them.
As simple as it sounds, we understand it requires humanity and generosity, it involves opening ourselves to others, creating vulnerable moments that frighten us. And that is the point because going beyond our fears helps us reveal the best in us.
"The value of emotions comes not from simply having them, but sharing them." Simon Sinek
Thank you for your participation and let us know if we can help in any way.

What's up guys...first of all, wanna apologize for the delay of this video, but decided it was for the better not to drop it on a holiday...and line it up with the day JT performs in Chicago, the city of my birth, & the city this very video was produced in.
Before I get to the meaning of this video I just want to say I'm so excited to be lucky enough to share this final product with you guys...I have worked so painfully hard on it getting to this point and I am so proud of what I have created not only with the video but for the first time in a long time of choreography pieces I am really proud of how much I feel like I'm just "DANCING" again in this video...now down to the serious business...lol.
---
This video to me is about a lot of things & nothing all at the same time, I know that may not make sense but I'll try to make sense of it. haha. To me this video (even though it was incredibly planned out) is my representation of the joy of spotanaeity and simple summer fun without a care in the world. I've really been trying to live by a phrase lately that my mother grew up telling me..."Joie de vivre" its a french phrase meaning: "the joy of life". It's really simple yet so effective and thats what I went for when I created this dance, envisioned this concept, and created the video to follow it all up. You all know I am definitely a sap for the books, and I create emotional piece after emotional piece...but sometimes...like this time... it doesn't have to be so deep and you can just ENJOY yourself. That's what I'm learning in my life lately and it has led me to become much happier...I'm young and have so much time for the things I want in my life to come to fruition and by realizing that now, instead of fabricating and force fitting happiness & and joy into my stress... they have been finding their own way to ME. It may seem like such a simple thing...happiness... but life makes it seem so complex & that is why it's so hard to achieve. My advice, and the purpose for this video...stop thinking so hard...step back and smell the roses once in awhile...if you are a good person and you do good things... every thing you want out of life will find its way to you.
If you enjoy choreographing-do it, if you like the way people dance-use them, if you enjoy someones company, presence, and all around energy-put them in your video...in a bathing suit, (haha), if you like your friends' work ethic and final products-use them to produce your vision, if you love your hometown- fly & film there, if you miss your hometown friends-invite them, if your proud of your city's beauty-show it off, if you love your family-let them be there for you.
Those are the reasons behind every decision I made behind this video & I hope it comes through loud and clear.
Thank you all for your continued support... I wake up so many mornings shocked at the life I've been able to build for myself... there are so many things that have got me to where I am today but one that I cannot forget is the love & support of every single viewer to date. I uploaded my first video to youtube over 7 years ago when I was still 12 years old...100 videos later here I am. Thank you. I love you all.

A plague doctor was a special medical physician who treated those who had the plague. They were specifically hired by towns that had many plague victims in times of epidemics. However, some plague doctors were known for charging patients and their families extra for special treatments and/or false cures. They were not normally professionally trained experienced physicians or surgeons, and often were second-rate doctors unable to otherwise run a successful medical business or young physicians trying to establish themselves.
Plague doctors by their covenant treated plague patients and were known as municipal or "community plague doctors", whereas "general practitioners" were separate doctors and both might be in the same European city or town at the same time. In France and the Netherlands plague doctors often lacked medical training and were referred to as "empirics". In one case a plague doctor had been a fruit salesman before his employment as a physician.
Some doctors wore a beak-like mask which was filled with aromatic items. The masks were designed to protect them from putrid air, which (according to the miasmatic theory of disease) was seen as the cause of infection.
The first epidemic of bubonic plague dates back to the mid 6th century, known as the Plague of Justinian. The largest epidemic was the Black Death of Europe in the 14th century. In medieval times the large loss of people due to the bubonic plague in a town created an economic disaster. Community plague doctors were quite valuable and were given special privileges. For example, plague doctors were freely allowed to perform autopsies, which were otherwise generally forbidden in Medieval Europe, to research a cure for the plague.

Chantel Jeffries Speaks Out ►►http://bit.ly/1mO6Bb8
Will new videos released of Justin Bieber behind bars help... or hurt his DUI case? Let's count down all the memorable moments caught on police and paparazzi tape and decide for ourselves. Let's start at the beginning. 1) Moments before Justin is pulled over, TMZ photogs capture swarms of fans stalking the singer as he attempts to drive down a Miami Beach road. 2) Minutes later... at least 3 cop cars have pulled over the yellow lambo in what is the beginning of what will be his worst night ever. Upon entering the police station, the arresting officer fills out this form explaining why he arrested Bieber. Allegedly the report says Bieber failed " sustaining a horizontal gaze," "the Romberg balance test" "walk and turn," "finger to nose" and "one-leg stand" tests. He states he smelled of alcohol, had slow deliberate movements, and said quote "what the fuck did I do... I ain't got no fucking weapons... why do you have to search me?" That's when the officer arrested Bieber. Bieber is asked to remove his jewelry. He complies. 4) A minute later Bieber expresses concerns regarding someone in an adjacent room. The cop seems to dismiss it. 5) the first layer of clothing is removed, as Bieber takes off his red sneakers.. Then socks. 6) 2:49 Bieber is then forced to remove his hoodie. 7) 2:59, The cop struggles during the pat down and proceeds to pull Bieber's infamously low pants WAY up to properly search all the pockets. Justin Bieber displays no resistance whatsoever. 8)This might be my favorite moment as soon as the cop lets go of him, Justin pulls his pants right back down. The waist line is now back at adequate lowness. 9) Justin is then asked to perform the walk-a-straight-line test. Before walking a straight line, the cop at the bottom of the screen seems to smirk as he texts on his cell phone during Bieb's test. 10) Justin begins the test and immediately loses balance. He gives it a second try and suceeds. 10) After being taken into a jail cell, Justin proceeds to do 23 push ups in 28 seconds to help pass the time. Which is pretty impressive if you ask me. 11) Despite all the drama, Justin smiles in his mug shot. 12) However his smile is gone by the time he appears before a court dressed in this orange jumpsuit.
13)The Bail is effortlessly paid. Justin is finally released from jail and waves to fans in solidarity.
So what do you guys think? Do these videos help or hurt his cause? Did you witness a drunken cocky star dealing with a DUI arrest or a lost pop star humbly accepting his consequences? You decide! Vote below. I'm Miriam Isa, tweet me your thoughts. And the girl who was with him the night of his arrest, Chantel Jeffries, speaks to e! Click right here for highlights of this provocative interview. Thanks for watching, and see you next time!

Ο Μονογενὴς Υιός - Only Begotten Son
‘Only Begotten Son’, is a hymn written by St (Emperor) Justinian. By the ninth century the hymn formed a regular part of the liturgy being chanted after the second antiphon at each Divine Liturgy in the Orthodox Church. It is based in second mode, chromatic scale. This mode is described as sad but harmonious, inspiring, solemn and contemplative.

On the 27th December 537, Hagia Sophia was inaugurated by Byzantine Emperor Justinian I and Patriarch Menas of Constantinople. The current building is the third church of Holy Wisdom to be built on the site, after the first two were destroyed in separate riots and revolts. However the third church’s long history saw it serve as both a Greek Orthodox cathedral and a Roman Catholic cathedral, before Constantinople was conquered by the Ottoman Turks under Sultan Mehmed II in 1453. He ordered it be converted into a mosque, which it remained until being secularised and reopened as a museum on the 1st February 1935.
The architects of the enormous basilica were the physicist Isidoros of Miletos and mathematician Anthemios of Tralles who, as the first to put together a comprehensive compilation of the mathematical theories of Archimedes, was clearly heavily influenced by the Greek academic. The two architects devised a series of complex vaults and semi-domes surrounding a high central dome with a diameter of over 31 meters. Supported by four marble-clad arches, this dome is probably the most immediately recognisable part of the building although it is not the original structure. The first dome collapsed during an earthquake on the 7th May 558, and was rebuilt over the next four years.
After Mehmed II was victorious in what became known in the west as the Fall of Constantinople in 1453, he ordered the basilica be converted into a mosque. This involved stripping it of Christian iconography but also building the four minarets that surround the central dome and are now a major part of the Istanbul skyline.
wn.com/27Th December 537 Hagia Sophia Basilica Inaugurated

Today in Rock of Ages I play the singleplayer level against Justinian. Who isn't acting very christian like as he rolls a rock over my face repeatedly. Which is funny cause it's christmas!
Rock of Ages involves rolling a rock down a large slope to bash the opponents gate. It contains RTS elements where the enemy is trying to bash your gate and you put up defenses to slow the rolling of the boulder. After repeated tries, one team destroys the others gate and squishes their commander. Also the humor here is strong.

This mode is described as sad but harmonious, inspiring, solemn and contemplative.
Ο Μονογενής Υιός - Only Begotten Son
‘Only Begotten Son’, is a hymn written by St (Emperor) Justinian. By the ninth century the hymn formed a regular part of the liturgy being chanted after the second antiphon at each Divine Liturgy in the Orthodox Church. It is based in second mode, chromatic scale. This mode is described as sad but harmonious, inspiring, solemn and contemplative.
The hymn is innately theological. It serves to respond to multiple heresies that plagued the Church such as the meaning of the Incarnation, changelessness of God, the resurrection and Trinitarian theology. It sets forth the Orthodox teaching on the Second Person of the Trinity. He, the Only-begotten Son and Word of God, being immortal, became man without ceasing to be God, and accepted a human body from the Holy Theotokos and ever virgin Mary. By his crucifixion, He conquered death, "trampling down death by death”, and is glorified equally with the Father and the Holy Spirit. The hymn thus praises the true God as he revealed himself to be, and as he has offered salvation to mankind.
The sixth century had seen the rise of many heresies which had strong impacts on the presentation of Orthodox doctrine. ‘Only begotten Son’ counters two specific heresies, that of Origenism and Monophysitism. Against these, Justinian, as a chalcedonian supporter, had three specific uncertainties to clear the church of; (1) whether Christ may be called ‘one of the Trinity’, (2) whether Christ suffered as God in the flesh, and (3) whether Mary may be truly named the mother of God and mother of the God-Logos who became flesh from her.
The hymn itself, contains six articles of faith. The seventh canon of the fifth ecumenical council in 553 similarly, contains six anathemas or conversely six truths, each of which, not explicitly stated are insinuated or alluded to within the hymn. Emperor Justinian, on composing a response to the disorder, one that corresponded with the teachings of the first four ecumenical councils, commanded that the hymn be sung in all churches. Placed together with the second antiphon which speaks on the Son of God to further its description, the hymn with its depth of theology, reinforces that the liturgy is pedagogical in its presentation, formation and purpose.
‘Only Begotten Son’ also uses a variety of poetic devices. These are used in order to create a euphony within the accentual rhythm of the byzantine ecclesiastical music. The hymn thus, on account of its poetic nature, draws in and allows the audience to contemplate the meanings and significance of the words. This successfully serves the purpose of hymnody, to have an internal effect on the listener where the expression and presentation of the hymn remains in the person’s mind and as a result, teaches the theology of the church.
The hymn ‘Only Begotten Son’ shows a deep theological interest in the incarnation of Jesus Christ, the Son of God in response to the heresies of the sixth century. The formation of the hymn along with its poetic nature expresses the true beliefs of the Orthodox Church rightly earning its position in the liturgy. With the statements of faith made and their pedagogical components, one can say that the hymn expresses the identity and motive of the Orthodox Church, to instruct and educate its people towards a knowledge, love and relationship with God.

The fourth installment in the Ancient Symmetria series by Ruth Dwyer. This presentation expands on Emperor Justinian's interest in Boethius' writings, investigating the link between the Consolation of Philosophy and the mosaics in the churches of Ravenna, Italy. With the return of relative calm after the reign's turbulent beginnings, Justinian could turn to his most ambitious project, the reconquest of the Western Empire. For this, his most cherished goal, he looked to one man, the young, promising general, Belisarius. Justinian was rewarded with unswerving loyalty and unquestioned brilliance, and yet the road to reconquest was to be a difficult and tragic one for both men. Join Lars Brownworth as the story of Justinian's reconquest of Africa and Italy unfolds.

With the reconquest of Italy seemingly complete and the Persian threat momentarily neutralized by the plague, Justinian could at last afford to rest. But the empire's enemies were everywhere- the plague abated and a charismatic new Gothic king arose in Italy. The empire could ill afford to keep its greatest general in disgrace, and Justinian would once again turn to the man he could never quite bring himself to trust. The final decade of his life would see the fruition of his epic dreams of reconquest, as well as the restoration of the building that still stands as the greatest testament to his reign. It would be the final act of a cast of characters the likes of whom the empire would never see again. Join Lars Brownworth for the conclusion of the reign of Justinian, the last of the Roman Emperors.

Welcome to our Let's Play of the recent DLC Campaign for Attila Total War: The Last Roman. In this campaign you take the Role of Justinian's I faithful general Belisarius in a quest to retake the lost lands of the Western Roman Empire.
In the campaign, Stalin controls the Roman Expedition, a horde faction, as it makes a bid to reclaim Italy and beyond. He must contend with the demands of Justinian and his nagging wife (also Belisarius's nagging wife, a surprising amount of nagging takes place in this campaign.)
Will the Western Roman Empire be rebuilt? Find out by watching the glorious let's play.
