In 1554 the Lady Elizabeth (who would become Elizabeth I) was taken to the Tower of London and imprisoned, accused of being involved with the Wyatt rebellion of the same year. According to popular history, Elizabeth entered through Traitors Gate; however we now know that it was most likely the entrance at the By

Planning a trip to London? Check out these tips on what you'll see on a visit to the Tower of London, also known as the Bloody Tower. If you like haunted houses, don't miss the ghost tour!
The Tower of London is also known as the Bloody Tower, and it’s earned the name. Since 1066, when William the Conqueror had it built to frighten his subjects into submission and to threaten those who wanted to invade his kingdom, it has seen the death and imprisonment of royalty–along with a lot of other people. This is where the former queens Catherine Howard and Anne Boleyn were executed. Prince Edward V was kept prisoner in the Tower before he vanished, as were bishops, kings, dukes, and more. The Tower of London is such an imposing fortress, it’s where the Crown Jewels are kept safe. With all that bloodshed, it’s no wonder some believe the Tower of London is haunted; you can even take a ghost tour. If that’s not your thing, check out the medieval palace inside the Tower instead. See the Yeoman Warders–or the “Beefeaters”–to learn about the old Royal Bodyguard. Search for the resident ravens; it’s said that England will fall if they leave the Tower. The Tower of London has so much history, you can’t

He said that the apparition hovered over the shoulder of his wife, leading her to exclaim: "Oh, Christ! It has seized me!" Other nameless and formless terrors have been reported, more recently, by night staff at the Tower.

Tower Bridge London ~ History Of London Bridge [Full Documentary] NEW HD
Tower Bridge (built 1886–1894) is a combined bascule and suspension bridge in London which crosses the River Thames. It is close to the Tower of London, from which it takes its name, and has become an iconic symbol of London.
The bridge consists of two towers tied together at the upper level by means of two horizontal walkways, designed to withstand the horizontal forces exerted by the suspended sections of the bridge on the landward sides of the towers. The vertical component of the forces in the suspended sections and the vertical reactions of the two walkways are carried by the two robust towers. The bascule pivots and operating machinery are housed in the base of each tower. The bridge's present colour scheme dates from 1977, when it was painted red, white and blue for Queen Elizabeth II's silver jubilee. Originally it was painted a mid greenish-blue colour.
The nearest London Underground tube stations are Tower Hill on the Circle and District line, London Bridge and Bermondsey, and the nearest Docklands Light Railway station is Tower Gateway.

True Scary Ghost Stories Part 1; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPk0Y9ggJAM
The Tower of London was built by William the Conqueror in 1078.
The Tower of London has been besieged many times in the past. During the 15th century, the castle was used as a prison.
There have been many reports in the past of a headless ghost, which many believe to be Anne Boleyn roaming around corridors of the White Tower, She was one of two wives that were ordered for execution by their husband, King Henry VIII, the other being Catherine Howard who has been seen & heard screaming behind the door of the room she was kept in before her execution.
The Bloody Tower is well known for a very evil past, there is a story of two young princes, one name Edward & the other named Richard, they were declared illegitimate by Parliament & then both sent to the tower, they were often seen playing around in the grounds but suddenly both vanished & were never ever seen again. It was believed that they were both murdered by order of their uncle who was the Duke of Gloucestershire, two skeletons, which are believed to be Edward & Richards were actually unearthed beneath a staircase in the White Tower in 1674. The ghosts of Edward & Richard are often seen wearing nightgowns & holding each other tightly in terror in the rooms of the castle. They are also heard throughout the Tower crying & screaming.
Lord Guildford Dudley, who was the husband to lady Jane Grey were both condemned to death for high treason in November 1553, there have been many reported sightings of Lady Jane Grey & also Lord Guildford Dudley who is said to appear in this tower, with tears running down his face.
For years after his execution, Guy Fawkes' screams and cries could be heard coming from the room where he was prepared for the end.
Henry Percy was locked up inside the Tower for sixteen years; his ghost has been reportedly seen along the battlements at Martin Tower. Some also say Henry Percy tries to push visitors and guards down the steps by the tower.
Around 1817 Edmund Swifte, who was the Keeper of the Crown Jewels, lived in the tower with his family. One Sunday he and his family were terrified by a tall, strange column of what looked like liquid, which drifted through their room. Swifte's wife panicked & said it tried to grab her as it passed. It disappeared after Swifte threw a chair at it - the item passed clean through without impact.
During World War 2 a guard on duty reported seeing a group of people in old uniforms walking towards the entrance to the tower carrying a stretcher containing a headless body. The guard was in shock & suddenly the figures faded away just before they reached the soldier.
It's said that 22 executions took place within the Tower of London, Executions by beheading were considered the least brutal of execution methods.
The last person to be executed at the Tower of London was a German spy Josef Jakobs on August 15th 1941 after being caught parachuting into England. He was seated in a chair when he was shot.

In 1554 the Lady Elizabeth (who would become Elizabeth I) was taken to the Tower of London and imprisoned, accused of being involved with the Wyatt rebellion of the same year. The experience must have been horrendous considering her Mother's death at the Tower. According to popular history, Elizabeth entered through Traitors Gate; however we now know that it was most likely the entrance at the Byward Poston that Elizabeth would have brought through.
I have used some clips from Elizabeth R, one of my favourite dramas regarding the life of Elizabeth, to demonstrate the historical notion of her entrance through 'Traitors Gate'. I own nothing, no copyright infringement intended. Hope you enjoy!

In 2014 the Tower of London will be commemorating the centenary anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War through a major art installation, in collaboration with ceramic artist Paul Cummins.
The Tower's dry moat will be filled with 888,246 ceramic poppies -- one for each British fatality during the war.
This first film documents the making of the ceramic poppies in Derby. Paul Cummins talks through process of turning blocks of clay into ceramic poppies which will fill the moat at the Tower of London.

Travel video about destination Tower of London & tower Bridge in England.
The Tower Of London is the home of the Crown Jewels and one of the many historical sights of the United Kingdom’s capital city. Just as with the British Empire, the Tower has a colourful and dramatic past and it was originally designed as a fortress by William The Conqueror. Not far from the Tower’s original main entrance prisoners were taken through Traitors’ Gate into the notorious dungeons. In1843 the moat dried up but the old fortress and its towers have survived to the present day. It must have been a terrifying experience to be imprisoned there and few prisoners lived to tell the tale of the rigours of the Tower. Many members of the English royal family were executed in the Tower but there were times when official execution was replaced by cold-blooded murder. Anne Boleyn, the second wife of King Henry The Eighth, was the most famous of those who fell victim to the Tower. Tower Bridge is a masterpiece of Victorian technology and construction. Its drawbridge once allowed large sailing ships to travel to the centre of the city. Today, however, the majority of large ships dock downstream and now the famous old bridge is raised around nine hundred times each year to facilitate the passage of numerous vessels that travel along the Thames. Even today the River Thames is ruled by this majestic bridge and the spectacular view from the Bridge’s 50 metre high walkway is truly fascinating. Tower Bridge and the Tower Of London are without any doubt two of London’s most striking and fascinating landmarks.

A trip to London might as well be a trip through history. This city has long been a hub for finance, education, and culture, and is full of modern construction mixed with ancient buildings.
Your London tour must include St. Paul’s Cathedral, one of its most well-known churches. You’ll also want to see the Tower of London, the Palace of Westminster, and Westminster Abbey for exquisite examples of the city’s famous architectural landmarks. Walk or jog through numerous green spaces, among them Hyde Park and Green Park, in the center of London.
Continue your London sightseeing in the West End, where you’ll find ancient buildings converted into modern shops, restaurants, bars, and shows. You’ll find one of the largest theatre districts in the world here, and can take in a different play almost every night of the week.
For a real treat, climb aboard the London Eye, a giant, rotating Ferris wheel, and see the old and new parts of the city all at once.

50 Things to do in London Travel Guide | Top Attractions London City Guide Transcript:
So Hello from London! Time for a new destination. This is a city that I haven't visited in almost 4 years and it is actually Sam's very first time here. So we're both very excited to be in London. And we're going to be making a little video guide. Actually a really big video guide because we plan on showing you 50 different things to do around London. So let's get started.
Our first stop was Trafalgar Square. This square leads to a lot of central attractions, so it's a nice place to people watch, get your bearings, and plan out where you want to go in the city.
The London Eye is a giant Ferris wheel on the South Bank of the Thames. It offers a bird's eye view of the city - just make sure you don't go on a foggy day.
Buckingham Palace has served as the official London residence for Britain's sovereigns since 1837. The State Rooms at Buckingham Palace are open to visitors every year, however, that's something that you need to plan months in advance.
The Palace of Westminster, also known as the Houses of Parliament, is the meeting place of the House of Commons and the House of Lords. The Palace along with Big Ben are two of the top London attractions that dot the city-scape.
The Tower of London sits on the north bank of the River Thames. Though this castle served many purposes, it's mainly remembered for its use as a prison in the 16th and 17th centuries.
And that's a wrap for London! Like with any mega city, it's impossible to cover all the sights and attractions you can enjoy here, but hopefully this video will give you an idea of what London has to offer. As always, if you have any other suggestions of things to do in London that you'd like to share with other travellers, feel free to include those in the comments below.
This is part of our Travel in England series. We're making a series of videos showcasing English culture, English arts, English foods, English religion, English cuisine and English people.

The Tower of London is visited by two-million tourists each year. William the Conquer built the White Tower fortress on the River Thames shortly after being crowned King of England in 1066. Over the centuries the Tower has served as a royal residence and prision. The Tower has played a bloody role in English history. Thousands were executed on nearby Tower Hill and some, including three Queens of England, were beheaded on the Tower Green. Two young prinices were taken to the Tower and never seen alive again. The bodies of two children were found years later sealed in a wall - a murder mystery from a time long gone by. Today, Yeoman Warders, also known as "Beefeaters" lead guided tours offering a dynamic and often humorous version of the history of this special place. The Crown Jewels are kept in the Tower. See the Traitors Gate, The Bloody Tower and the Chapel Royal. Take Time to Travel to the Tower of London, it's a living embodiment of English history and well worth a visit. Special thanks to Yoeman Warder Mitch for a great tour.

The Tower of London is the oldest palace, fortress and prison in Europe. History has it that King Edward of England backed down on his promise to give the throne to William, Duke of Normandy and ended up giving the throne to Harold Godwinson, his English brother in law.
Discover the priceless Crown Jewels newly displayed in 2012, join an iconic Beefeater on a tour and hear their bloody tales, stand where famous heads have rolled, learn the legend of the Tower's ravens, storm the battlements and get to grips with swords and armour and much more!
The Tower began its life as a simple timber and stone enclosure. The original structure was completed by the addition of a ditch and palisade along the north and west sides. This enclosure then received a structure of stone, which came to be called The Great Tower and eventually The White Tower, as we know it today.
Despite the Tower of London's grim reputation as a place of torture and death, within these walls you will also discover the history of a royal palace, an armoury and a powerful fortress. Don’t miss Royal Beasts and learn about the wild and wonderous animals that have inhabited the Tower, making it the first London Zoo.

Shepherd Entertainment takes you on a tour of the London Tower, a piece of history in the present, surrounded by a wall that
has served just a residence of kings, as a fortress, a prison and arsenal, as a mint and it even as a zoo. Today, it functions as a museum and treasury.
Visit the London Tower in the United Kingdom
The tower is a piece of history in the present, surrounded by a wall that has served just a residence of kings, as a fortress, a prison and arsenal, as a mint and it even as a zoo. Today, it functions as a museum and treasury. The Royal crown jewels are guarded here. The first king to take residence here was William the Conqueror, the last James I.
As prisoners, such illustrious guests enjoyed the hospitality of the tower as the bishop of Durham, Henry VI, Tomas Morris and the wives of Henry VIII. The last prisoner to live here was Rudolf Hess during World War II. The terrorist brought directly in the bank of the Thames. The concentric walls are more or less pentagonal in shape, and partially include the ancient Roman city wall from the times of Julius Caesar.
The entrance to the building complex is through the middle tower. The towers of the interior wall system each have very revealing names, Bloody Tower, Flint Tower, Broad Arrow Tower, and governor tower. The history of the tower is entwined with a long and exciting history of London in England from the conquest of the Romans to the Norman invasions to the War of the Roses. There are two significant buildings within the fort walls, the white tower which served as a residence of kings and the garrison which now serves as the royal treasury.
According to legend, with the black ravens that lived here leave the tower, it means the fall of the British Empire. The lively presentations by tour guides and period customs help us understand the events of the past.
"Well, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, welcome to her majesty's palace who portrays the tower of London. I'm dressed in the clothes of a man who has just returned from hunting in the 13th century. I supposed the heyday of the tower of London."
There are of course those who do not don their uniforms as mere customs. We're familiar with these Beefeaters from the labels of Jean Badels. They are the selected few who make up the elite guards in men unit of her majesty, officially known as Yeomen Warders, the Beefeaters and the guards keep a watchful eye over the world treasury whether Royal jewels or cat.
The collection includes St. Edwards and Queen Victoria's crown as well as the state sword, the royal orb and the world's largest diamond, the 530 karat star of Africa which is encased in the Royal scepter.
The crown of Queen Elizabeth, the imperial state ground was made for her father in 1937 and is adorned with 2868 diamonds, 17 sapphires, eleven emeralds and five rubies. Looking down from Tower Bridge, we can see that the white tower is actually round in shape and that its four towerettes are different from each other. The Norman Fryer Gundulf built the tower on orders of King William on the ruins of the small ford of the Saxon king offered. The walls of the white tower are four meters thick. But the stocking is optically masked by the white stone inlays found at the corner edges of the tower.
Many of ruler made an appearance here, some willingly and some not so. Some departed from here to their coronation ceremony and some to their own executions. When such executions scaffold they're still visible today and the museum just placed the blocked in hatchet used for decapitations.
The weapons exhibit also displays the armored kings as well as life sized models of their horses. King Richard III with Shakespeare later portrayed as the wretched soul main character and one of his famous works had as two nephews killed in the bloody tower.
The remains of the two little princes were found two centuries later, and laid to rest in Westminster Abbey. The museum in exhibit set up in the towers and buildings of the tower are not at all like those where historic items are encased in glass showcases away from dust and curious hands.
Like most museums in London, here too, the collection comes alive with hands-on interactive and informative exhibits that challenged the mind. In front of the building complex known as the Queen's house just in front of Buckingham Palace, bare skin had at centuries around duty though the changing of the guards here at the house is less spectacular than the one at the palace.

This is the free tour that is given at the Tower of London. It's led by a real Beefeater and is filled with information. I missed the first 5 minutes of the tour where they were talking about how traders to the crown were taken to the court yard and beheaded. Their head would then be taken, on a stick, to London Bridge so that it is displayed for all to see who come to London. It was a reminder to outsiders and insiders alike of what would happen if they betrayed the crown.

Travel video about destination London in England.
London is an exciting and pulsating metropolis of the new millennium, a melting pot of both people and culture and a fascinating city of diverse contrasts.
The City Of London contains the Tower, an historic landmark with a remarkable history. A mighty medieval fortress with 13 towers that throughout its 900 years, has served many functions and from the Middle Ages, it was a heavily fortified prison.
After the medieval St. Paul's Cathedral was destroyed by a devastating fire in 1666, Christopher Wren was ordered to re-build it with a dome. During the 36 years of its construction, its design was frequently altered until finally a wonderful masterpiece of church architecture was created.
The Monument is the city's tallest freestanding stone column and a reminder of the Great Fire of London that destroyed 80 percent of the city. In four days, more than 13,000 buildings were destroyed and the Monument was built on the site of the bakery in which the fire began.
Since the reign of Queen Victoria, Buckingham Palace has served as London's royal residence. A garden of mulberry trees once grew on the site of today's palace and the Duke of Buckingham subsequently added a simple brick built residence. Around 60 years later, George II purchased the site for his wife and George IV eventually began to design an extensive palace complex.
The highlight of any holiday in London must be the largest Ferris wheel in the world, the London Eye. Situated on the banks of the Thames, it rises high into the sky, opposite the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben.
The former centre of the largest empire in the world, London is still a city of superlatives that attracts millions of visitors each year. Exciting both day and night, London is a modern city with age old traditions and a long and colorful history.
