This editing tutorial is all about the anamorphic format also known as cinemascope. The aspect ration is between 2.35:1 and 2.40:1. It's easy to get your 16:9 (1920x1080) video in such an format and today I show you how to do that! And that’s exactly what I am going to show you how to achieve in today’s video. The effect is simple and can be achieved in a couple of different ways, the first and probably the easiest way to get the effect is to just put black bars on top of the clip. This technique is called Letter Boxing, you can create the boxes yourself, or download the ones provided with the tutorial for free, you’ll find instructions on how to do that down in the description. The other way you can achieve the same effect is by cropping your project to a resolution which is in the aspect ratio of 1:2.35. This means if you want 1080p full HD, but instead of the typical 16x9 aspect ratio going with the Anamorphic aspect ratio will the pixel count be 1920x817. If you want 720p in the anamorphic aspect ratio, you’ll get a pixel count of 1280x545. You get these numbers by taking the horizontal pixel count 1920 for example and then dividing it by 2.35. It is simple to crop your projects; all you have to do in after effects is to right click on your composition and chose composition settings. What you need to do now is to fix the resolution to your desired number, make sure to uncheck the lock aspect ratio. For premiere pro, it’s a little different but the technique is mostly the same. When you create your sequence use your normal preset, but before you hit create, go into the settings tab, and fix the resolution to your desired number… Just remember to do the same when you export the file to get the cropped effect when you’re playing it back on a standard 16:9 monitor.
