Naseeruddin Shah (born 20 July 1950) is an Indian / Bollywood film actor and director. He is widely considered to be one of the best actors produced by India. In 2003, the Government of India honored him with the Padma Bhushan for his contributions towards Indian cinema.

Shah was born on 20 July 1950 in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh, India where his father was a Navy Officer. Shah's family hails from Sardhana in District Meerut (Uttar Pradesh).He is a descendant of the 19th-century Afghan warlord Jan Fishan Khan. Naseeruddin Shah did his schooling at St. Anselm's Ajmer and St Joseph's College, Nainital. He graduated in arts from Aligarh Muslim University in 1971 and attended National School of Drama in Delhi. He has been successful in mainstream Bollywood cinema as well as in Parallel Cinema. He has also appeared in international films, notably playing Captain Nemo in the Hollywood comic book adaptation The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. His elder brother is Lt. General Zameerud-din Shah PVSM, SM, VSM, recently appointed as the Vice-Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University.

Khan Saheb (Naseeruddin Shah) is a Muslim classical vocalist, who is very happy with his music and does not worry about what is happening. His servant, Karim Mian (Raghubir Yadav) constantly tries to alert him with the riots, but Khan Saheb realises the extent of the trauma only after witnessing the destruction of a shrine dedicated to the Sufi saint, Wali Gujarati. Aarti (Deepti Naval) a Hindu house-wife, residing with her husband, Sanjay (Paresh Rawal) and his brother, Deven (Dilip Joshi) is in trauma with the guilt that she did not help a Muslim lady, who was being chased by the cops. In order to pay for her sins, she finds a Muslim boy, Mohsin, who is wandering in search of his father, and gives him shelter at her house. On the other hand, Aarti's husband, who is not bothered about her being in trauma, is trying to bribe the police to set free Deven, who is on charge for raping a woman. He is known for his unorthodox methods of apprehending smugglers, and it is these methods that land him in trouble with the Shikari brothers. Bharat decides to oppose them, and as a result the Shikari brothers recruit false eyewitnesses, pay them to give false testimonies and get the complaint dismissed. When Bharat persists, his family is abducted and subsequently killed. Bharat manages to kill some of the culprits, however, is arrested, found guilty and sentenced to life imprisonment. On the way to prison, the vehicle meets with an accident, killing everyone on board. Relieved at the death of their nemesis, the Shikari brothers celebrate - only to find out that they now have a new unknown enemy - an enemy who will kill them one by one - for an unknown reason.

The movie story deals with General Dong an evil dictator of a kingdom called Dongrila. He has kidnapped dozens of school girls and plans to use them as suicide bombers to bomb populated areas in India. One of his hostages is Dolly who is the daughter of Major Krishna Rao. Krishna Rao recruits the best Indian army officers Captain Ranvir, Captain Aditya, Captain Javed, Captain Anju and former disgraced Major Dharam Singh. Together they go on a perilous journey between the borders of China and India to rescue Dolly as well as dozens of school girls held in Dong's captive and destroy Dong's kingdom of Dongrila.

Despite the objections of Indu, who is devastated to learn of her husband's infidelity, the boy comes to stay with them in Delhi for some time. Rahul is never told that DK is his father. Rahul bonds with DK and his daughters. But Indu can't bear to look at him, who is a tangible reminder of DK's betrayal. DK, worried by the effect that Rahul is having on his family, decides to put him in a boarding school in St. Joseph's College, Nainital; Rahul accepts with reluctance. After gaining admission at the school and returning to Delhi before his permanent move to Nainital, Rahul figures out that DK is his father and runs away from home. After he is escorted home by a police officer, Rahul confesses his awareness of the identity of his father to Indu. Indu is unable to bear the heartbreak of the young child and intercepts Rahul before he is put onto the train to Nainital, thereby accepting him into the family and wholeheartedly forgiving DK. He has a friend in Karan (Inder Kumar) who helps him in every situation. Suraj subsequently falls in love with Naina (Ayesha Jhulka) but in reality he only acts like that for a bet. When Naina also starts loving him he leaves her. Naina goes to the police and lodges a complaint. Suraj is then arrested by Vishal. However, Naina is forced to take back her complaint and Suraj is left free. Suraj decides to take revenge. He plans a set - up by which some money is placed in Vishal's house, through Karan. Vishal is suspended, but when Vishal comes to know about this he tells Karan that he has done a wrong this. In the middle of this, the police commissioner also dies. Karan then tells Suraj to turn over a new leaf and marry Naina. However, Karan is then abducted by Bahkelal's men and Vishal comes to save him. In the end Bankelal dies and Suraj accepts Naina as his wife.

Rihaee (Devnagari: रिहाई, English: Liberation) is a 1988 Hindi film directed by Aruna Raje, starring Vinod Khanna, Hema Malini, Naseeruddin Shah and Mohan Agashe in lead roles. The film dealt with the promiscuity of male migrant workers to urban India, and also the sexuality of women, left behind the rural regions. Hema Malini received a nomination for the Filmfare Best Actress Award for her role in the film The story is set in a remote village in Gujarat. Menfolk here, like in many other villages across India go to the cities to work, leaving behind their families.[4] Mansukh (Naseeruddin Shah) after working for a long time in Dubai, returns to his native village. This is the village where all the men have gone to work in the cities. The lonely women of the village are all excited with the arrival of Mansukh and many are after him. Especially Sukhi (Neena Gupta) and Reema Lagoo. Taku (Hema Malini) wife of Amarji (Vinod Khanna) is a woman with an attitude. She is an independent and strong women who is different from the group. Mansukh becomes interested in her and he goes after her. After his persistent attempts he succeeds & they start having a relationship. After a while Mansukh leaves the village. The women Sukhi and Taku later find out that they are both pregnant. How they deal with their pregnancies is the movie. This is a staggering movie that shakes some of the fundamental rules of Indian society. It talks about equal opportunity to females on all aspects. Unlike many directors who advocate for equal opportunity without much alteration of the current social setup, Aruna talks about giving those opportunity, even if it means changing the basic rules of the current social setup. The movie starts almost like a soft porn. I was wondering how a women director like aruna raje has taken a movie like this, the movie turned around and became a strong women's liberation voice. The movie starts with the introduction of the village characters through a postman (Harish Patel). Later,the movie targeting the men folks on their attitude towards women, hooks them with a common man's dream story. A man in a village filled with longing women. Then it slowly turns and constructs through various threads to tell how women is differentiated in the eyes of the society, what a baby means to a woman and what is real manliness. The movie has many small threads and uses many characters. But none of the characters are unimportant, every small character deals with different issues to tell the plight of the women. Aruna's screenplay should be commended for the way it integrates all the issues with Takku's problem as the central point. Jhumkhu(Ila arun) for example loses her son in a fire accident and is forced to do the funeral without her husband, as he is not able to come to the village. She goes through that trauma all alone. She almost becomes insane on that loss, this character is later used to convey the message that whether it is an accident or an abortion, the trauma of losing a child for a woman is the same. Like Jhumku there is a story behind every female character, and they have one problem or the other because of the fact that they are a woman. The movie clearly puts the double standard followed for men and women through various village characters. Mansukh's father in the panchayat blames the women of the village to be punished, without saying anything about his son who was responsible for everything. The movie also points out the hypocrisy of the society which says it is ok to hide the truth rather than reveal it openly. The tranquility of their life is shattered when DK receives word that he has a son from a short-term affair with Bhavana (played by Supriya Pathak) during his visit to Nainital when his wife Indu was about to give birth to their first child Rinky. Bhavana did not tell DK about this since she did not want to disturb his life. Now that she is dead, her guardian Masterji sends word to DK in Delhi saying that the boy, Rahul (played by Jugal Hansraj), who is eight years old, needs a home. Despite the objections of Indu, who is devastated to learn of her husband's infidelity, the boy comes to stay with them in Delhi for some time. Rahul is never told that DK is his father. Rahul bonds with DK and his daughters. But Indu can't bear to look at him, who is a tangible reminder of DK's betrayal. DK, worried by the effect that Rahul is having on his family, decides to put him in a boarding school in St. Joseph's College, Nainital; Rahul accepts with reluctance. After gaining admission at the school and returning to Delhi before his permanent move to Nainital, Rahul figures out that DK is his father and runs away from home. After he is escorted home by a police officer, Rahul confesses his awareness of the identity of his father to Indu. Indu is unable to bear the heartbreak of the young child and intercepts Rahul before he is put onto the train to Nainital, thereby accepting him into the family and wholeheartedly forgiving DK. He has a friend in Karan (Inder Kumar) who helps him in every situation. Suraj subsequently falls in love with Naina (Ayesha Jhulka) but in reality he only acts like that for a bet. When Naina also starts loving him he leaves her. Naina goes to the police and lodges a complaint. Suraj is then arrested by Vishal. However, Naina is forced to take back her complaint and Suraj is left free. Suraj decides to take revenge. He plans a set - up by which some money is placed in Vishal's house, through Karan. Vishal is suspended, but when Vishal comes to know about this he tells Karan that he has done a wrong this. In the middle of this, the police commissioner also dies. Karan then tells Suraj to turn over a new leaf and marry Naina. However, Karan is then abducted by Bahkelal's men and Vishal comes to save him. In the end Bankelal dies and Suraj accepts Naina as his wife.

Rihaee (Devnagari: रिहाई, English: Liberation) is a 1988 Hindi film directed by Aruna Raje, starring Vinod Khanna, Hema Malini, Naseeruddin Shah and Mohan Agashe in lead roles. The film dealt with the promiscuity of male migrant workers to urban India, and also the sexuality of women, left behind the rural regions. Hema Malini received a nomination for the Filmfare Best Actress Award for her role in the film The story is set in a remote village in Gujarat. Menfolk here, like in many other villages across India go to the cities to work, leaving behind their families.[4] Mansukh (Naseeruddin Shah) after working for a long time in Dubai, returns to his native village. This is the village where all the men have gone to work in the cities. The lonely women of the village are all excited with the arrival of Mansukh and many are after him. Especially Sukhi (Neena Gupta) and Reema Lagoo. Taku (Hema Malini) wife of Amarji (Vinod Khanna) is a woman with an attitude. She is an independent and strong women who is different from the group. Mansukh becomes interested in her and he goes after her. After his persistent attempts he succeeds & they start having a relationship. After a while Mansukh leaves the village. The women Sukhi and Taku later find out that they are both pregnant. How they deal with their pregnancies is the movie. This is a staggering movie that shakes some of the fundamental rules of Indian society. It talks about equal opportunity to females on all aspects. Unlike many directors who advocate for equal opportunity without much alteration of the current social setup, Aruna talks about giving those opportunity, even if it means changing the basic rules of the current social setup. The movie starts almost like a soft porn. I was wondering how a women director like aruna raje has taken a movie like this, the movie turned around and became a strong women's liberation voice. The movie starts with the introduction of the village characters through a postman (Harish Patel). Later,the movie targeting the men folks on their attitude towards women, hooks them with a common man's dream story. A man in a village filled with longing women. Then it slowly turns and constructs through various threads to tell how women is differentiated in the eyes of the society, what a baby means to a woman and what is real manliness. The movie has many small threads and uses many characters. But none of the characters are unimportant, every small character deals with different issues to tell the plight of the women. Aruna's screenplay should be commended for the way it integrates all the issues with Takku's problem as the central point. Jhumkhu(Ila arun) for example loses her son in a fire accident and is forced to do the funeral without her husband, as he is not able to come to the village. She goes through that trauma all alone. She almost becomes insane on that loss, this character is later used to convey the message that whether it is an accident or an abortion, the trauma of losing a child for a woman is the same. Like Jhumku there is a story behind every female character, and they have one problem or the other because of the fact that they are a woman. The movie clearly puts the double standard followed for men and women through various village characters. Mansukh's father in the panchayat blames the women of the village to be punished, without saying anything about his son who was responsible for everything. The movie also points out the hypocrisy of the society which says it is ok to hide the truth rather than reveal it openly.
