The colony of just 6.5. sq km has been in British hands since the early 18th century. It was an important staging post for the Empire, and played a vital role in both world wars. On 14 occasions the rock has come under siege from Spain, but Britain has always clung on to its colony. "Spain has never liked the fact that they lost Gibraltar and have consequently made difficulties" says the Governor of Gibraltar. Now the strategic importance has declined, and with Britain and Spain partners in the EU, the British government views it as an anachronism. "There is enormous room for Anglo Spanish relations that for many years have been conditioned by the claim on Gibraltar, " says Alberto Aza. But as the politics rages it's the ordinary people in Gibraltar who most keenly feel a sense of desertion. " Tell Spain that you can't force people to become Spaniards" says one local resident. "Gibraltarians will not stand for it," says another. " We will fight to our deaths." With Britain set to cut their colony adrift, the Gibraltarians are steeling themselves for their toughest battle yet.

Gibraltar is a British Overseas Territory located on the southern end of the Iberian Peninsula at the entrance of the Mediterranean.
The most important places to visit in Gibraltar are: The Rock (the Rock of Gibraltar marks a gateway between the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean and between Europe and Africa), Barbary Apes (despite their mislabeling as apes, these tail-less monkeys have made a name for themselves on Gibraltar), St. Michael's Cave (the geological formations continue into the Earth, as this cave goes deep into the Rock of Gibraltar itself), Great Siege Tunnels (also in the Rock itself are tunnels used by the British in their defense against assailing Spaniards who sought to reclaim Gibraltar in the 18th century), Cable Car Ride (for under 10 Euros, tourists can ride a cable car to the top of the Rock where the Apes reside and other attractions await) and many more.
This video offers a lot of tips to help you plan the perfect vacation. If you want to save time and money, the most important Gibraltar travel tip is to compare prices before booking a hotel room or a flight. You can do this for free on http://bookinghunter.com, a site that searches through hundreds of other travel websites in real time for the best travel deals available.

Plot
The story begins with a dramatisation of the Italian manned torpedo raid on Alexandria (1941) in which two British battleships were sunk. The British are worried that this new Italian tactic will give the enemy naval supremacy in the Mediterranean. From Spain, an Italian expert on underwater operations is secretly watching the British base in Gibraltar and planning new attacks.
Maverick diver Lionel Crabb is brought in to head the British response. He creates a team of divers to intercept the Italian attacks and defuse the bombs. The Italians plan a major attack on a British convoy, but Crabb and another diver manage to infiltrate the Spanish docks from which the Italians are planning the attack, identifying the ship (the Olterra) which the Italians attack from. Crabb leads an unauthorised pre-emptive strike on the ship carrying the torpedoes and destroys it, winning the George Medal.
The British divers are shown as using Davis Submerged Escape Apparatus.
[edit]Inaccuracy
This film does not represent real events accurately:-
In particular, in the real world there was no attack on the Olterra, and no underwater hand-to-hand battle between Italian and British frogmen.
The breathing sets used by the film's actors representing the Italian frogmen are British naval type rebreathers (with fullface masks with oval windows like an eyes-and-nose mask's, and not with large rectangular windows as used by British frogmen and naval divers more recently) and not authentic Italian rebreathers, beause the Italian frogmen were acted by British naval divers, riding British-type manned torpedoes representing Italian maiali.
In the film Crabb dives on the wreck of a recently crashed B-24 Liberator that had gone into the sea just after taking off from Gibraltar Airport. This scene was based on the accident in 1943 in which Polish general Władysław Sikorski was killed. In the film the submerged wreck of an Avro Shackleton is used as a stand-in for the Liberator.
4. The part in the film showing the Liberator crashing into the sea is at Camp Bay. The crash actually happened off the eastern end of the runway crashing into the Mediterranean Sea.

It seems dark clouds are gathering over relations between the UK and Spain. Royal Navy war ships are also expected to drop by the straight, although it's claimed on scheduled exercises. Afshin Rattansi joins RT to share his opinion on this issue.

Gibraltar is a British overseas territory located on the southern end of the Iberian Peninsula at the entrance of the Mediterranean. It has an area of 6.8 square kilometres (2.6 sq mi) and a northern border with Andalusia, Spain. The Rock of Gibraltar is the major landmark of the region. At its foot is the densely populated city area, home to almost 30,000 Gibraltarians and other nationalities. An Anglo-Dutch force captured Gibraltar from Spain in 1704 during the War of the Spanish Succession. The territory was subsequently ceded to Britain "in perpetuity" under the Treaty of Utrecht in 1713. It was an important base for the Royal Navy; today its economy is based largely on tourism, financial services, and shipping.

Gibralter
In a place called Gibralter, well known as the rock,
Three I.R.A scumbags were counting thier stock,
When along came some soldiers, they are Britains best,
And thier known the whole world over as the proud S.A.S.
And the I.R.A, were blown away,
Three corpses were left in Gibralter that day.
Well Dublin she was angry, And so was the Doyle,
For the bomb in Gibralter the soldiers did foil,
For they planned to murder and leave many for dead,
But the brave S.A.S put thier gun to thier head.
And the I.R.A, were blown away,
Three corpses were left in Gibralter that day.
That wanker Gerry Adams what a wonderfull sight,
Behind an old Tombstone he cowered with fright,
The mad yellow provo didn't know what to do,
When faced with one Proddy so brave and so true.
And the I.R.A, were blown away,
Three corpses were left in old Milltown that day.
This strong loyal Proddy, He's called Micheal Stone,
Right in to the graveyard, he went on his own,
Five bombs they were thrown and yet only one missed,
But you couldn't see the fenians from the steam off thier piss.
And the I.R.A, were blown away,
Three corpses were left in old Milltown that day.
Yes the I.R.A, were blown away,

Travel Guide Spain /// Gibraltar
Red pillar boxes, fish-and-chip shops and creaky 1970s seaside hotels; Gibraltar – as British writer Laurie Lee once commented – is a piece of Portsmouth sliced off and towed 500 miles south. As with many colonial outposts, ‘the Rock’ overstates its Britishness, a bonus for pub-grub and afternoon-tea lovers, but a confusing double-take for modern Brits who thought their country had moved on since the days of Lord Nelson memorabilia. Poised strategically at the jaws of Europe and Africa, Gibraltar, with its Palladian architecture and camera-hogging Barbary macaques, makes for an interesting break from Cádiz province's white towns and tapas. Playing an admirable supporting role is the swashbuckling local history; lest we forget, the Rock has been British longer than the United States has been American.
This towering 5km-long limestone ridge rises to 426m, with dramatic cliffs on its northern and eastern sides. Gibraltarians speak English, Spanish, and a curiously accented, sing-song mix of the two, swapping back and forth midsentence. Signs are in English.

Gibraltar. Travel / Tourism.
Gibraltar is a British Overseas Territory located on the southern end of the Iberian Peninsula at the entrance of the Mediterranean. It has an area of 6.0 km2 (2.3 sq mi) and shares its northern border with the Province of Cádiz in Andalusia, Spain. The Rock of Gibraltar is the major landmark of the region. At its foot is a densely populated city area, home to almost 30,000 Gibraltarians and other nationalities.
An Anglo-Dutch force captured Gibraltar from Spain in 1704 during the War of the Spanish Succession on behalf of the Habsburg pretender to the Spanish throne. The territory was subsequently ceded to Britain "in perpetuity" under the Treaty of Utrecht in 1713. It was an important base for the Royal Navy; today its economy is based largely on tourism, online gambling, financial services, and shipping.
The sovereignty of Gibraltar is a major point of contention in Anglo-Spanish relations as Spain asserts a claim to the territory. Gibraltarians overwhelmingly rejected proposals for Spanish sovereignty in a 1967 referendum and again in 2002. Under the Gibraltar constitution of 2006, Gibraltar governs its own affairs, though some powers, such as defence and foreign relations, remain the responsibility of the UK Government.
Tourism in Gibraltar constitutes one of the British Overseas Territory's most important economic pillars, alongside financial services and shipping. Gibraltar's main attractions are the Rock of Gibraltar and its resident population of Barbary macaques (or "apes"), the territory's military heritage, duty-free shopping, casinos and marinas. Although the population of Gibraltar numbers only some 30,000 people, the territory recorded nearly 12 million visits in 2011, giving it one of the highest tourist-to-resident ratios in the world.
The Government of Gibraltar has sought to develop the tourism sector to replace Gibraltar's former dependence on the British military, its chief economic mainstay until cuts in the UK's Ministry of Defence budget led to the gradual run-down in the military presence after the 1980s. Gibraltar's marinas – one of which was the first to have been built in the region – have made Gibraltar an important hub for sea transport for over 50 years. A tourist boom began in the mid-1980s but stalled by the end of the decade before being boosted again in the mid-1990s by a programme of Government investment and marketing. The building of the new Gibraltar Cruise Terminal, a new airport terminal, pedestrianisation of key streets, redevelopment of historic buildings in the city centre and improvements to tourist attractions elsewhere on the peninsula have helped to increase tourist numbers considerably since the turn of the 21st century.

Malaga is located in southern Spain, on the Costa del Sol (Coast of the Sun) on the northern side of the Mediterranean Sea. It lies at the feet of the Montes de Malaga, about 100 km east of the Strait of Gibraltar and about 130 km east of Tarifa (the southernmost point of continental Europe) and about 130 km on north of Africa.
The most important places to visit in Malaga are: Malaga's Cathedral (is established on the former Great Mosque, after the reconquest in 1528), The Picasso Museum (Malaga is the birth place of the painter Pablo Picasso, he was born in 1881), Roman Theatre (located close to the Alcazaba Fortress, the theatre was used for entertainment for about four centuries now, even though the Moors used some of the remains of the theatre to build some fortresses nearby), La Alcazaba of Málaga (one of most popular tourist attractions in Malaga, witnessed the passage of Arab civilization in Andalusia) and many more.
This video offers a lot of tips to help you plan the perfect vacation. Travel video about destination Helsinki in Finland.
Helsinki, the Daughter of the Baltic, the Gibraltar of the North, a dividing line between east and west and a modern and liberal minded metropolis. Founded in 1550 by Swedish king Gustav I as a as a trading centre and in 1812, Csar Alexander I made it the capital of the Principality of Finland.
The Senaatintori is located in the centre of the city. The square is dominated by a monument and surrounded by a number of fine Neo-Classical buildings. Csar Alexander II included public, ecclesiastical and academic buildings in the square, including government offices, a cathedral and university.
Uspenski Cathedral is situated at the city's southern harbor and is the largest Russian Orthodox church in both western and northern Europe. Built in 1868 according to traditional Russian design its exterior is of red brick and it is crowned by 13 gilded domes.
The Finlandia Talo is Helsinki's concert and congress centre, a work of art that encapsulates the building and design philosophy of Alvar Aalto, one of Finland's most prominent architects of the 20th century. The white-colored opera house was completed in 1993. It was a daring project as the city's treasury was empty! But music reigned supreme and today the building is an important part of the city's cultural life.
Helsinki is a captivating city and has rightly been declared Europe's capital of culture.
