Around 500 protesters marched to mark the anniversary of the death of La Falange party founder Jose Antonio Primo de Rivera in Madrid on Saturday.
Protesters, who performed the Roman Salute, marched from de Rivera's place of birth (Calle de Genova) to Madrid's Moncloa region. The march then concluded at the Valle de los Caidos (Valley of the Fallen) where both de Rivera and General Francisco Franco are buried.
November 20 marks the death of both Jose Primo de Rivera (1936) and General Franco (1975). Police presence on the streets of Madrid was high in anticipation of clashes.

Spain: Falangists follow Franco's anti-abortion line
Members of Spain's extreme-right Falange party staged an anti-abortion protest in Zaragoza's Plaza del Pilar on Wednesday. The Falange Espanola de la JONS is a small far-right party descended from the Falangist party which bloomed under Franco after he included them in the Falange Espanola Tradicionalista y de las Juntas de Ofensiva Nacional-Sindicalista in 1937. The original Falange party was founded in 1933 by Jose Antonio Primo de Rivera, son of former nationalistic leader Miguel Primo de Rivera.
The heavily Catholic country is under pressure from conservatives to reform the current abortion laws put into place by the former Socialist government in 2010, allowing abortion on demand up to 14 weeks and 22 weeks in cases of medical risk. Until 1985, abortion was illegal in Spain in all cases aside from when a woman's life was sufficiently endangered to allow an abortion under general criminal law principles.

Falangism
Falangism (Spanish: Falangismo) is the political ideology of the Falange Española Tradicionalista y de las Juntas de Ofensiva Nacional Sindicalista ("Falange") as well as derivatives of it in other countries. In its original form, Falangism is widely considered a fascist ideology. Under the leadership of Francisco Franco, many of the radical elements of Falangism considered to be fascist were diluted and it largely became an authoritarian, conservative ideology connected with Francoist Spain. Opponents of Franco's changes to the party include former Falange leader Manuel Hedilla. Falangism places a strong emphasis on Catholic religious identity, though it has held some secular views on the Church's direct influence in society, as it believed that the state should have the supreme authority over the nation. Falangism emphasized the need for authority, hierarchy, and order in society. Falangism is anti-capitalist, anti-democratic, and anti-liberal.

Spanish Civil War
The Spanish Civil War (Spanish: Guerra Civil Española), widely known in Spain simply as The Civil War (Spanish: Guerra Civil) or The War (Spanish: La Guerra), took place from 1936 to 1939 and was fought between the Republicans, who were loyal to the democratic, left-leaning Second Spanish Republic, and the Nationalists, a falangist group led by General Francisco Franco. The Nationalists won, and Franco then ruled Spain for the next 36 years, from April 1939 until his death in November 1975.
The war began after a pronunciamiento (declaration of opposition) by a group of generals of the Spanish Republican Armed Forces, originally under the leadership of José Sanjurjo, against the elected, leftist government of the Second Spanish Republic, at the time under the leadership of President Manuel Azaña. The Nationalist group was supported by a number of conservative groups, including the Spanish Confederation of Autonomous Right-wing Groups (Confederación Española de Derechas Autónomas, or CEDA), monarchists such as the religious conservative (Catholic) Carlists, and the Falange Española Tradicionalista y de las Juntas de Ofensiva Nacional Sindicalista, a fascist group. Sanjurjo was killed in an aircraft accident while attempting to return from exile in Portugal, whereupon Franco emerged as the leader of the Nationalists.

Around 500 protesters marched to mark the anniversary of the death of La Falange party founder Jose Antonio Primo de Rivera in Madrid on Saturday.
Protesters, who performed the Roman Salute, marched from de Rivera's place of birth (Calle de Genova) to Madrid's Moncloa region. The march then concluded at the Valle de los Caidos (Valley of the Fallen) where both de Rivera and General Francisco Franco are buried.
November 20 marks the death of both Jose Primo de Rivera (1936) and General Franco (1975). Police presence on the streets of Madrid was high in anticipation of clashes.

Spain: Falangists follow Franco's anti-abortion line
Members of Spain's extreme-right Falange party staged an anti-abortion protest in Zaragoza's Plaza del Pilar on Wednesday. The Falange Espanola de la JONS is a small far-right party descended from the Falangist party which bloomed under Franco after he included them in the Falange Espanola Tradicionalista y de las Juntas de Ofensiva Nacional-Sindicalista in 1937. The original Falange party was founded in 1933 by Jose Antonio Primo de Rivera, son of former nationalistic leader Miguel Primo de Rivera.
The heavily Catholic country is under pressure from conservatives to reform the current abortion laws put into place by the former Socialist government in 2010, allowing abortion on demand up to 14 weeks and 22 weeks in cases of medical risk. Until 1985, abortion was illegal in Spain in all cases aside from when a woman's life was sufficiently endangered to allow an abortion under general criminal law principles.
