"The Verdict" with Paul Newman is a great movie.
Paul Newman plays a down and out trial lawyer who has become an alcoholic and hit rock bottom. Things have gotten so bad for the character he portrays that the lawyer is actually seen trolling for cases in funeral homes.
Talk about ambulance chasing!
The most interesting part of this entire medical malpractice story occurs during two pivotal courtroom scenes.
The first involves Paul Newman's cross-examination of a prominent Boston doctor. The doctor is condescending, arrogant and pompous. He is appalled that anyone could accuse him of violating the basic standards of medical care.
The second pivotal courtroom scene involves the direct examination of a nurse who has been hidden away by the defense in an attempt to prevent vital information from coming out at trial.
The movie clearly portrays the injustice Paul Newman's clients have suffered as a result of improper medical care by a prominent Boston physician and prominent hospital.

The legal thriller is a sub-genre of thriller and crime fiction in which the major characters are lawyers and their employees. The system of justice itself is always a major part of these works, at times almost functioning as one of the characters. In this way, the legal system provides the framework for the legal thriller much as the system of modern police work does for the police procedural.
Usually, crusading lawyers become involved in proving their cases (usually their client's innocence of the crime of which he is accused, or the culpability of a corrupt corporation which has covered up its malfeasance until this point) to such an extent that they imperil their own interpersonal relationships and frequently, their own lives.

Kaffee generally plea bargains for his clients rather than bring them to trial, which is probably why he was assigned this potentially embarassing case, but when Lt. Commander JoAnne Galloway (Demi Moore) is assigned to assist Kaffee, she is convinced that there's more to the matter than they've been led to believe and convinces her colleague that the case should go to court.

"The Verdict" with Paul Newman is a great movie.
Paul Newman plays a down and out trial lawyer who has become an alcoholic and hit rock bottom. Things have gotten so bad for the character he portrays that the lawyer is actually seen trolling for cases in funeral homes.
Talk about ambulance chasing!
The most interesting part of this entire medical malpractice story occurs during two pivotal courtroom scenes.
The first involves Paul Newman's cross-examination of a prominent Boston doctor. The doctor is condescending, arrogant and pompous. He is appalled that anyone could accuse him of violating the basic standards of medical care.
The second pivotal courtroom scene involves the direct examination of a nurse who has been hidden away by the defense in an attempt to prevent vital information from coming out at trial.
The movie clearly portrays the injustice Paul Newman's clients have suffered as a result of improper medical care by a prominent Boston physician and prominent hospital.

Karen Andre è accusata dell'omicidio di Bjorn Faulkner, facoltoso magnate dell'industria svedese, per il quale ha svolto le mansioni di segretaria e... forse qualcosa in più.
Man mano che la storia si dipana ci troviamo di fronte alla personalità di un uomo spregiudicato, che, con la sua gestione disinvolta dei meccanismi della finanza, ha ridotto sul lastrico molti piccoli e grandi investitori: Karen Andre è solo sua complice, ma tanto spregiudicata da assassinarlo? Oppure è una donna profondamente innamorata del suo uomo, disposta a seguirlo in ogni caso?
Il suo comportamento è comunque moralmente discutibile e quindi condannabile?
Nel corso del processo 11 testimoni daranno la loro versione dei fatti. Ognuno di loro ha una precisa caratterizzazione che non manca di spunti gustosi e divertenti. Mai messo in scena in Italia (ha riscosso negli anni molteplici consensi di pubblico e critica in tutta Europa), quanto mai attuale per le sue analogie con la crisi economico-finanziaria mondiale odierna (nei primi anni Trenta si respirava l'atmosfera della più grande crisi economica del Novecento, proveniente, proprio come questa volta, dagli Stati Uniti d'America), il testo ci racconta gli eventi in maniera scanzonata e ironica, con la convinzione che si possa uscire dalla crisi solo grazie al "pensiero positivo".
