Maine (
i/ˈmeɪn/) is a state in the New England region of the northeastern United States, bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the east and south, New Hampshire to the west, and the Canadian provinces of Quebec to the northwest and New Brunswick to the northeast. Maine is both the northernmost and easternmost portion of New England. It is known for its scenery—its jagged, mostly rocky coastline, its low, rolling mountains, its heavily forested interior and picturesque waterways—as well as for its seafood cuisine, especially lobsters and clams.
For thousands of years, indigenous peoples were the only inhabitants of the territory that is now Maine. At the time of European encounter, several Algonquian-speaking peoples inhabited the area. The first European settlement in Maine was by the French in 1604 on Saint Croix Island, by Pierre Dugua, Sieur de Mons. The first English settlement in Maine, the short-lived Popham Colony, was established by the Plymouth Company in 1607. A number of English settlements were established along the coast of Maine in the 1620s, although the rugged climate, deprivations, and conflict with the local peoples caused many to fail over the years. As Maine entered the 18th century, only a half dozen European settlements survived. Patriot and British forces contended for Maine's territory during the American Revolution and the War of 1812. Maine was part of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts until 1820, when it voted to secede from Massachusetts. On March 15, 1820, it was admitted to the Union as the 23rd state under the Missouri Compromise. Maine is the 39th most extensive and the 41st most populous of the 50 United States.

Maine-Soroa (Mainé-Soroa, Maïné-Soroa) is a town in southeastern Niger, the capital of the Maine-soroa Department, and is in turn part of Diffa Region. Population 10,176 (2001).
Situated in an agropastoral zone, most of Maine-Soroa's population survive by farming and stockraising. As much of the sahel region Niger, Maine-Soroa farmers work under the threat of desertification.
The town is also known as the birthplace of the former President of Niger, Tanja Mamadou.
The town has an airport, international code DRZM, with an unpaved 3900ft/1189m runway.

La repressione, lanciata a metà maggio, prende di mira i Boko Haram e altri gruppi islamisti, divenuti la minaccia più grande per la stabilità in Nigeria.
Hamid Ibrahim, rifugiato nigeriano, dice che i suoi parenti sono stati uccisi in attacchi con artiglieria pesante, bombe e mitragliate, e i cadaveri erano sparsi ovunque.
È fuggito dalla Nigeria con la sua famiglia con niente a parte i vestiti sulle spalle.

Moussa è stata separata da suo marito e tre bambini durante il macello.
Un'altra giovane madre è fuggita in Niger col suo bambino dopo che suo marito era stato ucciso dagli islamisti.

«Mio marito si recava alla scuola dove insegnava. Sul tragitto, i ribelli Boko Haram l'hanno ucciso. Hanno riportato il suo corpo a casa ore più tardi».

From the steep cliffs of New England’s coast to the north of the State of Maine the power of the sea manifests itself. The region is home to the Acadia National Park whose magnificent forests have made it a popular sightseeing destination.Wealthy entrepreneurs were once attracted to the captivating town of Bar Harbour and had their summer homes there. Since then the region has become a little less glamorous but idyllic scenery and picturesque areas such as Jordan Pond are still exceptionally beautiful. As the name Indian Summer suggests, New England’s most well known season dates back to the golden years of the Native American Indian. The warm days at the beginning of autumn were once the most important time of the year for hunting because it was then that the region’s animals grazed prior to the onset of winter. According to legend the strong dark red colour of the leaves symbolized the blood of slaughtered bears. The ‘autumn summer’ was thus closely associated with the Native Indian hunters of old. Even today the Acadia National Park combines all the natural beauty of Maine in a unique way that captivates all those who experience its irresistible charm.
