I completed a traditional four-year undergraduate degree on campus. While I had a lot of fun, knowing some things ahead of time would have made my experience even better. Here’s a look at some of the things that I wish I had known before attending Point Park University. I chose to commute throughout my college education. It was affordable to rent an apartment, plus I ended up working off-campus. I enjoyed having my own space and own life outside of school, but sometimes commuting made it challenging to participate in campus life. For example, many school clubs and activities were held much later in the evening, so I would have to wait around for a few hours for them to start, or I would miss an activity because I needed to be at work.

While I enjoyed most of my everyday experiences at this school, there were some things that I wish I had known to avoid! Here are some things that you should avoid while attending PPU so that you can have an amazing experience. One of the expenses that come with driving to campus is parking. Since Point Park University is located in downtown Pittsburgh, the parking costs can get very high! Make sure that you learn more about the prices of area garages as soon as possible so that you can avoid over paying. The Wood-Allies parking garage, which is a short walk away from campus offers 24 hour parking for $12. Other garages charge up to $18 for the same timeframe! If you’re looking for something to do in the evenings, don’t plan to stay downtown unless you’ll be staying on campus. Most everything shuts down very early in downtown Pittsburgh. After dinnertime, it’s extremely difficult to find somewhere to hang out. If you do want to do something fun, consider hanging with friends on campus or spending time in nearby locations such as Southside or Oakland. Here you can find plenty to do late into the night.

Point Park University
Point Park University is a liberal arts university in downtown Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Formerly known as Point Park College, the school name was revised in 2004 to reflect the number of graduate programs being offered.
Point Park University is a comprehensive doctoral-level university with a strong liberal arts tradition, and is located in the heart of Downtown Pittsburgh. Point Park enrolls more than 3,800 full-and part-time students in 82 undergraduate programs and 18 graduate programs offered through its School of Arts and Sciences, School of Business, School of Communication and the Conservatory of Performing Arts.
History
Beginnings
The University began in 1933 as a one-room business school called Business Training College with an initial enrollment of 50 students, under the direction of Dorothy Finkelhor, a New York native, and her husband, L. Herbert Finkelhor. At the time, it was notable for a woman to found such an institution. Finkelhor provided her students with business and secretarial skills. At the same time, she served in multiple roles as teacher, the dean of women, social chairman, janitor, telephone operator, admissions and finance director, and registrar.

Park University
Park University is an independent, non-profit private institution of higher education based in Parkville, Missouri and has 41 campus center locations in 20 states and online. Established in 1875 as a small religiously-affiliated college, it has now expanded into a comprehensive master level institution and one of the top providers of education courses for the U.S. military.
Park is regionally accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA).
Locations
The flagship campus of Park University is located in the city of Parkville, Missouri. The Park University Graduate School is located in downtown Kansas City, Missouri. There are 40 campuses in 21 U.S. states including three campuses in the Kansas City area (Downtown Kansas City, Independence and Parkville) and a campus center in Austin, Texas. Most of the satellite campuses are on or near United States Air Force bases and share quarters with other businesses/organizations.

Park
A park is an area of natural, semi-natural, or planted space set aside for human enjoyment and recreation or for the protection of wildlife or natural habitats. A university (Latin: universitas, "a whole") is an institution of higher (or tertiary) education and research which grants academic degrees in various subjects and typically provides undergraduate education and postgraduate education. The word "university" is derived from the Latin universitas magistrorum et scholarium, which roughly means "community of teachers and scholars."
History
Definition
The original Latin word "universitas" refers in general to "a number of persons associated into one body, a society, company, community, guild, corporation, etc." At the time of the emergence of urban town life and medieval guilds, specialised "associations of students and teachers with collective legal rights usually guaranteed by charters issued by princes, prelates, or the towns in which they were located" came to be denominated by this general term. Like other guilds, they were self-regulating and determined the qualifications of their members.
In modern usage the word has come to mean "An institution of higher education offering tuition in mainly non-vocational subjects and typically having the power to confer degrees," with the earlier emphasis on its corporate organization considered as applying historically to Medieval universities.

While I enjoyed most of my everyday experiences at this school, there were some things that I wish I had known to avoid! Here are some things that you should avoid while attending PPU so that you can have an amazing experience. One of the expenses that come with driving to campus is parking. Since Point Park University is located in downtown Pittsburgh, the parking costs can get very high! Make sure that you learn more about the prices of area garages as soon as possible so that you can avoid over paying. The Wood-Allies parking garage, which is a short walk away from campus offers 24 hour parking for $12. Other garages charge up to $18 for the same timeframe! If you’re looking for something to do in the evenings, don’t plan to stay downtown unless you’ll be staying on campus. Most everything shuts down very early in downtown Pittsburgh. After dinnertime, it’s extremely difficult to find somewhere to hang out. If you do want to do something fun, consider hanging with friends on campus or spending time in nearby locations such as Southside or Oakland. Here you can find plenty to do late into the night.

This is my last day unfortunately and go about the business that people usually do before the leave somewhere cool and affordable. Stock up on stuff, eat lots of good food and further explore the area. Tirana has a bad rep like most of Albania and from what I experienced, it's totally unwarranted. I had a fantastic time trying a bit of living in Tirana and living in Albania in general. I say living in as opposed to visiting because I didn't really do much touristy stuff compared to just go about my day to day life while I was there. So this week we're excited to be exploring Dublin and we're planning to spend an entire week here. This video is going to highlight 25 things to do around the city. Dublin is where most trips in Ireland begin, so before seeing the rest of the country, Audrey and I spent a whole week getting to know the capital. Inhabited since the Paleolithic era, Tirana has a long history that has included communities started by the Illyrians (who coined the name Tërana, which eventually became Tirana), Romans, Byzantines, and the Ottomans. Proclaimed the temporary capital of the newly independent capital of the country of Albania in 1920, it was deemed to be the permanent capital in 1925, which served to accelerate its growth. Falling under the Soviet sphere of influence following the outcome of the Second World War, its architecture mirrored the Brutalist style of building found elsewhere throughout the rest of Russia and Eastern Europe. Since then though, renovation efforts and new construction since the end of Communism in the 1990's has freshened things up, and its young population has lifted the spirits of this place in recent years. The nightlife scene is hot, cafes are full following the conclusion of the work day, and rising economic prosperity has given rise to a sense of optimism everywhere you go. Combined with significantly lower prices compared with their Italian neighbors across the Adriatic, and you have an excellent urban escape that will get your Albanian trip off to the right start.
Places to visit
Start your tour of Tirana in Skanderbeg Square. A popular public gathering place for residents, its centrepiece is a monument to Albania's greatest hero, and with numerous restaurants and cafes ringing its periphery, it is also a great place to watch people stroll by. Et'hem Bey Mosque should be next on your list, as its long history that dates back to the 19th century, as well as its central role in helping the people defy Communist authorities in the early 1990's, when 10,000 worshipers streamed into the prayer hall after having been shut down by the totalitarian government for almost 50 years. The Islamic art inside is magnificent, but be sure to dress respectfully. The National Historical Museum will help visitors understand the challenges the country face during Communist times, as well as how life was during the days of Ottomans, Byzantines, Romans, and in earlier eras. Additionally, there is also a pavilion that profiles the life and times of Mother Teresa, who was born and raised in Albania. Finally, cruise through the National Art Gallery of Albania, as it contains visual art from nationally famous creatives, which includes Socialist Realism paintings from this nation's Communist days.
Things to do
Those looking for a break from the city, and a great vantage point from which to photograph Tirana from above will want to ascend Mount Dajti. Serviced by a cable car, visitors can go hiking, horse riding, and skiing in the winter. More urbane-minded travelers will want to have fun at the Taiwan Complex instead. An entertainment centre located in a park in downtown Tirana, it is home to restaurants, bars, a casino, a bowling alley, and many other attractions. If the sun is shining, it is a wonderful place to be. Those looking to chill or seek out a great dinner will enjoy having a coffee or a meal on Murat Toptani Street. A pedestrian only street in the car dominated core, the relaxing atmosphere has given rise to some of this city's trendiest spots, so be sure to walk through here first when looking for a place to eat. Once the sun sets, don't forget to sample the nightlife in Tirana. Radio Bar is a good spot to start the night, as its quieter yet hip atmosphere makes it easy to meet locals, who tend to be university students at this venue. When the time comes to rock out for the rest of the night, Alfa Bar is an awesome place to go, as it stays open late, and often host great local bands.

A slice of life living in Tirana, Albania. This is my last day unfortunately and go about the business that people usually do before the leave somewhere cool and affordable. Stock up on stuff, eat lots of good food and further explore the area. Tirana has a bad rep like most of Albania and from what I experienced, it's totally unwarranted. I had a fantastic time trying a bit of living in Tirana and living in Albania in general.
I say living in as opposed to visiting because I didn't really do much touristy stuff compared to just go about my day to day life while I was there. Tirana and Albania in general are places I'd like to return to one day during the summer to get another taste; cool spot.

So this week we're excited to be exploring Dublin and we're planning to spend an entire week here. This video is going to highlight 25 things to do around the city. Dublin is where most trips in Ireland begin, so before seeing the rest of the country, Audrey and I spent a whole week getting to know the capital. When the weather cooperated we walked around the city, toured Trinity College, and visited the botanical gardens, and when it poured rain as it often does in this part of the world, we just popped into a pub for some Irish stew and a pint of Guinness. The following video will show you a few of the different things to do in Dublin, Ireland.

Trinity College was founded in 1592 and it is the oldest university in Ireland. The campus is open to visitors interested in touring the grounds, and you'll also get to hear some fascinating stories of famous students, including the likes of Oscar Wilde, Jonathan Swift, and Bram Stoker.
The Guinness Storehouse is Dublin's most popular attraction, and it's a must-visit for beer lovers. The Storehouse covers seven floors surrounding a glass atrium shaped like a pint of Guinness. Inside you'll also find a copy of the 9,000 year lease signed by Arthur Guinness on the brewery site - they won't be going anywhere for a while!
Grafton Street is one of the main shopping areas in Dublin. You're likely to find lots of musicians, buskers, and performers along here, plus you get a good vantage point of The Spire.
Prior to the establishment of Glasnevin Cemetery, Irish Catholics had no place of their own to bury their dead. This burial ground gave both Irish Catholics and Protestants a place where they could give their dead dignified burial, and it has since become the resting place for people of all religions and non religions.
Experience Gaelic Games is a place where you can come and try traditional Irish sports like hurling and Gaelic football.
The Old Jameson Distillery is the original site where Jameson Irish Whiskey was distilled until 1971. It is now a visitor centre that offers both guided tours and whiskey tastings.
Temple Bar is an area known for its lively nightlife. Located on the southbank of the River Liffey, you'll find all sorts of pubs playing live music once the sun goes down. There's also one pub in Temple Bar, called The Temple Bar, but don't let that confuse you.

Day 9: Istanbul, Turkey - This was a day of sightseeing at some of the most famous attractions in Istanbul that I’ve wanted to visit my entire life including the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sophia. And the read highlight of the day for me was the incredible Turkish food, especially the kebabs.
Museum Pass Istanbul - 85 TRY ($28.88) - Before getting started with the things we did in this video, I purchased a Museum Pass for Istanbul, which granted me access to a few of the attractions without having to stand in line. I’m not sure if I really saved much money, but it did save time.
2:00 Sultan Ahmet Camii (Blue Mosque) - Our first stop of the day in this attractions in Istanbul video was the Sultan Ahmet Camii, which is commonly known as the Blue Mosque due to its blue tiles on the inside. We actually arrived a little too early in the morning, so they were not open yet, so we walked around the Hippodrome of Constantinople for a few minutes. When the Blue Mosque opened, we went inside. Both inside and outside are incredible to see.
5:37 Hagia Sophia - One of the most famous pieces of architecture in all of Istanbul and one of the most famous attractions is Hagia Sophia. It started off as a church, later became a mosque, and now it’s an official museum. After entering, you can walk around the main room, but the highlight of visiting Hagia Sophia for me was walking up to the upper galleries for some amazing views from above.
8:24 Topkapi Palace - Finally, one more of the most famous attractions in Istanbul, and located right in the same area as Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque is Topkapi Palace, which was an Ottoman Palace. You can walk around the gardens and palace structures, which are now galleries. I especially enjoyed the Imperial Harem, which was a section of the palace reserved for women, and the best preserved area of the palace.
11:25 Sehzade Erzurum Cag Kebab (Şehzade Cağ Kebap) - There are many different types of Turkish food, and cag kebab is a type of kebab from Erzurum in Eastern Turkey. According some some men I met while eating the amazing kebabs, this is the best restaurant for cag kebab in all of Istanbul. The type of kebab is made from lamb, and instead of being on a vertical skewer like other types of kebabs, it’s grilled on a horizontal skewer. The meat is cooked with wood fire, and slice off onto smaller skewers to be served. If you get a chance to try cag kebab, it’s an absolutely stunning Turkish food. The entire meal was delicious, but the best part was meeting the owner of Sehzade Erzurum Cag Kebab and eating a slice of the meat right off the roll hot and fresh. Out entire meal cost 85 TL ($28.88).
20:34 Basilica Cistern - 20 TRY ($6.80) - Arter the amazing Turkish food lunch, we headed over to see the Basilica cistern, one of many underground cisterns in Istanbul. It was interesting to see. We then headed to the hotel for a rest, and then went out again for dinner.
23:27 Dinner at Balkan Lokantasi - Beşiktaş is a neighborhood in Istanbul and we walked over to a restaurant for dinner in that neighborhood called Balkan Lokantasi. It was an extremely busy restaurant serving all sorts of different Turkish food in a cafeteria like style. You walk through the line, choose whatever dishes you want, and pay for what you get. You can eat a serious feast for a pretty good price. I got a little confused and didn’t really know what I was doing, so ended up ordering what was way too much food. But that’s alright, it was all really delicious.
It was fantastic day of Turkish food and visiting some attractions in Istanbul that I had wanted to visit my entire life.

It started off as a church, later became a mosque, and now it’s an official museum. After entering, you can walk around the main room, but the highlight of visiting Hagia Sophia for me was walking up to the upper galleries for some amazing views from above.
8:24 Topkapi Palace - Finally, one more of the most famous attractions in Istanbul, and located right in the same area as Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque is Topkapi Palace, which was an Ottoman Palace. You can walk around the gardens and palace structures, which are now galleries. I especially enjoyed the Imperial Harem, which was a section of the palace reserved for women, and the best preserved area of the palace.
11:25 Sehzade Erzurum Cag Kebab (Şehzade Cağ Kebap) - There are many different types of Turkish food, and cag kebab is a type of kebab from Erzurum in Eastern Turkey. According some some men I met while eating the amazing kebabs, this is the best restaurant for cag kebab in all of Istanbul. The type of kebab is made from lamb, and instead of being on a vertical skewer like other types of kebabs, it’s grilled on a horizontal skewer. The meat is cooked with wood fire, and slice off onto smaller skewers to be served. If you get a chance to try cag kebab, it’s an absolutely stunning Turkish food. The entire meal was delicious, but the best part was meeting the owner of Sehzade Erzurum Cag Kebab and eating a slice of the meat right off the roll hot and fresh. Out entire meal cost 85 TL ($28.88).
20:34 Basilica Cistern - 20 TRY ($6.80) - Arter the amazing Turkish food lunch, we headed over to see the Basilica cistern, one of many underground cisterns in Istanbul. It was interesting to see. We then headed to the hotel for a rest, and then went out again for dinner.
23:27 Dinner at Balkan Lokantasi - Beşiktaş is a neighborhood in Istanbul and we walked over to a restaurant for dinner in that neighborhood called Balkan Lokantasi. It was an extremely busy restaurant serving all sorts of different Turkish food in a cafeteria like style. You walk through the line, choose whatever dishes you want, and pay for what you get. You can eat a serious feast for a pretty good price. I got a little confused and didn’t really know what I was doing, so ended up ordering what was way too much food. But that’s alright, it was all really delicious.
It was fantastic day of Turkish food and visiting some attractions in Istanbul that I had wanted to visit my entire life.

While I enjoyed most of my everyday experiences at this school, there were some things that I wish I had known to avoid! Here are some things that you should avoid while attending PPU so that you can have an amazing experience. One of the expenses that come with driving to campus is parking. Since Point Park University is located in downtown Pittsburgh, the parking costs can get very high! Make sure that you learn more about the prices of area garages as soon as possible so that you can avoid over paying. The Wood-Allies parking garage, which is a short walk away from campus offers 24 hour parking for $12. Other garages charge up to $18 for the same timeframe! If you’re looking for something to do in the evenings, don’t plan to stay downtown unless you’ll be staying on campus. Most everything shuts down very early in downtown Pittsburgh. After dinnertime, it’s extremely difficult to find somewhere to hang out. If you do want to do something fun, consider hanging with friends on campus or spending time in nearby locations such as Southside or Oakland. Here you can find plenty to do late into the night.
