FILM DESCRIPTION:
Vulgar, crude, and occasionally scandalous in its racial humor, this hilarious bad-taste spoof of Westerns, co-written by Richard Pryor, features Cleavon Little as the first black sheriff of a stunned town scheduled for demolition by an encroaching railroad. Little and co-star Gene Wilder have great chemistry, and the delightful supporting cast includes Harvey Korman, Slim Pickens, and Madeline Kahn as a chanteuse modelled on Marlene Dietrich. As in Young Frankenstein (1974), Silent Movie (1976), and High Anxiety (1977), director/writer Mel Brooks gives a burlesque spin to a classic Hollywood movie genre; in his own manic, Borscht Belt way, Brooks was a central player in revising classic genres in light of Seventies values and attitudes, an effort most often associated with such directors as Robert Altman and Peter Bogdanovich . Some of this film's sequences, notably a gaseous bean dinner around a campfire, have become comedy classics.

Except for Charlie Sheen, this was the nadir of all my interviews: Mr. Little was appearing in "I'm Not Rappaport" was not alerted by the press agent he would be giving a half hour interview about his career. He gets a little testy in the middle of the interview and I never quite recover. I don't even think I aired this after we did it.

The railroad's got to run through the town of Rock Ridge. How do you drive out the townfolk in order to steal their land? Send in the toughest gang you've got... and name a new sheriff who'll last about 24 hours. But that's not really the plot of Blazing Saddles, just the pretext. Once Mel Brooks' lunatic film that many call his best gets started, logic is lost in a blizzard of gags, jokes, quips, puns, howlers, growlers and outrageous assaults upon good taste or any taste at all. Cleavon Little as the new lawman, Gene Wilder as the wacko Waco Kid, Brooks himself as a dim-witted politico and Madeline Kahn in her Marlene Dietrich send-up that earned an Academy Award nomination all give this sagebrush saga their lunatic best. And when Blazing Saddles can't contain itself at the finale, it just proves the Old West will never be the same! MPAA Rating: R (c) 1974 Warner Bros. All Rights Reserved.

Cleavon Jake Little (June 1, 1939 – October 22, 1992) was an American film and theatre actor.
Little was widely known for his lead role as Sheriff Bart in the 1974 Mel Brooks comedy Blazing Saddles. He also was the irreverent Dr. Jerry Noland in the early 1970s sitcom Temperatures Rising.
In 1978, he played "The Prince of Darkness" in the radio station comedy FM, previously having played the role of radio personality Super Soul in the 1971 action film Vanishing Point. His later work included the 1984 film Toy Soldiers.
Little was born in Chickasha, Oklahoma, and was the brother of singer DeEtta Little, best known for her performance of "Gonna Fly Now", the main theme to Rocky. He grew up in California and attended college initially at San Diego City College, and then at San Diego State University where he earned a bachelor's degree in dramatic arts. After receiving a full scholarship to graduate school at Juilliard he moved to New York. After completing studies at Juilliard, Little trained at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts.

Dear John is an American sitcom that aired on NBC from 1988 to 1992. The series was originally based on the British sitcom of the same name.
Dear John starred Judd Hirsch as easygoing Drake Prep high school teacher John Lacey who is dumped by his wife, Wendy, via a Dear John letter. Wendy ends up with everything in the divorce settlement, including custody of the couple's son, forcing John to move into an apartment in Ozone Park, Queens.
John soon joins the One-2-One Club, a self help group for divorced, widowed or lonely people. The group is led by Louise (Jane Carr), a sex-obsessed British woman. Other members of the group include Kate McCarron (Isabella Hofmann), a sweet divorcée; Kirk Morris (Jere Burns), a cocky ladies' man; Ralph Drang (Harry Groener), a shy and neurotic tollbooth collector; Bonnie Philbert (Billie Bird), a feisty senior citizen; and Tom, Mrs. Philbert's quiet boyfriend (Tom Willett).

Blazing Saddles: A Gritty Western
Cleavon Little plays Bart, a hardened sheriff born from a family of enslaved railway workers, who has gained a reputation for mercilessly hunting down criminals wrecking havoc among his townspeople. Bart enlists the help of Jim, a wandering gunslinger, to confront a corrupted Governor responsible for running Bart's town into hell. Will the pair save Rockridge in time? Or will the town swallow itself whole from a culmination of cowardice, ignorance, and Western greed.

I'm Not Rappaport is a play by Herb Gardner, originally staged by Seattle Repertory Theatre in 1984. Its Broadway debut production—directed by Daniel Sullivan, and starring Judd Hirsch, Cleavon Little, Jace Alexander, and Mercedes Ruehl—opened on November 19, 1985 at the Booth Theatre, where it ran for 891 performances. The production received Tony Awards for Best Play, Best Lighting Design, and Best Actor (for Hirsch's performance). In 2002, after 15 previews, a revival re-opened at the Booth on 25 July, where it ran for an additional 53 performances. Again directed by Sullivan, Hirsch reprised his role and was joined by Ben Vereen. Blazing Saddles is a 1974 satirical Western comedy film directed by Mel Brooks. Starring Cleavon Little and Gene Wilder, the film was written by Brooks, Andrew Bergman, Richard Pryor, Norman Steinberg, and Al Uger, and was based on Bergman's story and draft. The movie was nominated for three Academy Awards, and is ranked No. 6 on the American Film Institute's 100 Years...100 Laughs list.
Comedian Richard Pryor, co-writer of the film, was originally supposed to have played the role of the black sheriff, Black Bart, before the role eventually went to actor Cleavon Little. Mel Brooks appears in two supporting roles, Governor William J. Le Petomane and a Yiddish-speaking Indian chief; he also dubs lines for one of Lili von Shtupp's backing troupe. The supporting cast includes Slim Pickens, Alex Karras, and David Huddleston, as well as Brooks regulars Dom DeLuise, Madeline Kahn, and Harvey Korman. Bandleader Count Basie has a cameo as himself.
The film satirizes the racism obscured by myth-making Hollywood accounts of the American West, with the hero being a black sheriff in an all-white town. The film is full of deliberate anachronisms, from the Count Basie Orchestra playing "April in Paris" in the Wild West, to Slim Pickens referring to the Wide World of Sports, to the German army of World War II.

Blazing Saddles is a 1974 satirical Western comedy film directed by Mel Brooks. Starring Cleavon Little and Gene Wilder, the film was written by Brooks, Andrew Bergman, Richard Pryor, Norman Steinberg, and Al Uger, and was based on Bergman's story and draft. The movie was nominated for three Academy Awards, and is ranked No. 6 on the American Film Institute's 100 Years...100 Laughs list.
Comedian Richard Pryor, co-writer of the film, was originally supposed to have played the role of the black sheriff, Black Bart, before the role eventually went to actor Cleavon Little. Mel Brooks appears in two supporting roles, Governor William J. Le Petomane and a Yiddish-speaking Indian chief; he also dubs lines for one of Lili von Shtupp's backing troupe. The supporting cast includes Slim Pickens, Alex Karras, and David Huddleston, as well as Brooks regulars Dom DeLuise, Madeline Kahn, and Harvey Korman. Bandleader Count Basie has a cameo as himself.
The film satirizes the racism obscured by myth-making Hollywood accounts of the American West, with the hero being a black sheriff in an all-white town. The film is full of deliberate anachronisms, from the Count Basie Orchestra playing "April in Paris" in the Wild West, to Slim Pickens referring to the Wide World of Sports, to the German army of World War II.

In an attempt to boost the show's ratings (it aired opposite MAUDE) the entire cast except for Little was dropped for the second season and Paul Lynde added in along with a new group of supporting players. In this one the latest scheme of Dr. Nolan (Little) is to raise money for the hospital is to have staff members and patients (one played by Charlotte Rae) make bets to guess the combined weight of all babies born in one day. In the meantime, gruff but lovable Dr. Campanelli (Whitmore) has been offered the position of director of the United States Public Health Service. To keep him from accepting this position, Nolan and nurses Carlisle (Van Ark), MacInerney (Rose), and Turner (Fox) persuade one of the hospital's janitors (David Huddleston) to pose as Campanelli's potential replacement.
My apologies for the less-than-stellar quality. The series has never been commercially released on DVD and is now extremely hard to find. I think you will enjoy it nonetheless.
