A (very) quick video showing how I've tackled the nice corduroy suit jacket on Rustin Cohle from True Detective.
It's quite a repetitive process for me as I like to build up a lot of tones through making lines, rubbing and smudging, highlighting and repeating. For more information, see my blog at blog.lauraeddy.com.au.

History of Clothing
During the pre historic era, people did not have clothes to wear. To cover themselves, they used leaves, animal skins and furs.
Later, people started making strands by twisting vines and animal fleece to weave them into fabrics.
People draped fabrics of cotton which grew in the ganga regions.
Flax, a natural fibre produced from flax plant was used for making fabrics.
When sewing needle was invented, people started stitching fabrics to make clothes.
Still, we use many clothes that are not stitched like sarees, and dhotis.
There are many varieties of fabrics available in the market today.
Fabrics are made from yarns of fibre.
Spinning of Cotton
Spinning is the process of making yarn from fibres. Fibres from a heap of cotton are drawn out and twisted.
The spinning of cotton is done by a spindle and a charkha. In industries, spinning machines are used to spin large amounts of yarns.
Fabrics are then made from the yarns.
MAKING FABRICS
Weaving is the process to make fabric by arranging two sets of yarns together.
Lets try weaving to see how it works.
Take 5 strips of red ribbon and 5 strips of white ribbon.
Now, start weaving the ribbons by interlocking them with each other.

There are many different fabric glue brands and types on the market for use on DIY projects. Beacon felt glue adhesive works great on all types of fabrics, not only felt [http://peepmysteelo.blogspot.com/2015/12/best-fabric-glue.html]. This glue is washable and permanent for attachment of felt on cloth and other clothing material to each other. The bottle says that it bonds glitter, pom poms and of course, felt. It's non-toxic and dries clear. Easy water clean-up is another feature of this adhesive.
[Project in which this glue was used: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I63WOMpsJg4]
The bottle is a 4 oz.container which was enough for the stocking project it was bought for. This was a personalized Christmas stocking with 3 letters. This fabric glue bonded really well. It would've been nice if it was sold in a smaller bottle for smaller DIY projects. But, since the glue is useful, it's good to have around. These can be found over at the local fabric store like Joann's or Michael's. The glue bottle comes with directions and helpful hints for proper use. If you need a great multi-purpose fabric glue, check out this one by Beacon.

Ultra-Ever Dry - Part 2: The sequel to the smash hit and viral sensation! http://youtu.be/IPM8OR6W6WE
Ultra-Ever Dry is a superhydrophobic (water) and oleophobic (hydrocarbons) coating that will repel most water-based and some oil-based liquids. Ultra-Ever Dry uses proprietary omniphobic technology to coat an object and create a surface chemistry and texture with patterns of geometric shapes that have "peaks" or "high points". These high points repel water, some oils, wet concrete, and other liquids unlike any other coating.
Ultra-Ever Dry has vastly improved adhesion and abrasion resistance, compared to previous superhydrophobic technologies, allowing it to be used in applications where greater durability is required. Keep your stuff Ever Dry and neverwet!

Researchers in Japan have invented an incredible invisibility cloak.
The technology comes from 2003, but it's developers say the Harry Potter-like invisibility cloak is just the beginning. The team, led by Dr. Susumu Tachi, from Keio University, is now adapting their findings to help pilots, drivers, doctors and others.
Retro-reflective projection technology uses a computer, a video camera and projector to shine background images onto the front of a subject wearing specialised clothing, creating the illusion of invisibility.
What makes the technology unique is a fabric made of glass beads only 50 microns wide, which can reflect light directly back at the source, much like the screen in a cinema.
Viewed from near the light source, the projection is bright even in broad daylight, and researchers say the material can be applied to almost anything. In the short term, the team sees usage in car interiors, airplanes and helicopters.
They say blind spots could be eliminated and accidents and hard landings avoided by making walls seemingly transparent.
The eventual goal though is to create an "augmented reality" that allows anyone to easily see information on real world objects.
[Dr. Susumu Tachi, Keio University]:
"Looking to the future, instead of glasses, people could wear this and it would act as a navigation system. It could also tell you who someone is, if you meet them around town."
In the few years since the technology's invention, the price of the material, as well as that of computing, has come down, opening the door for smaller yet more powerful applications.
Whether used to increase safety or to create a whole new form of computer-human interaction, the world is likely to see, or possibly not see, more of this technology in the future.

Taylor Momsen becomes the face of a new clothing line. Keep watching.
Welcome back to ClevverTV. Coming to you from Beverly Hills, I'm Dana Ward with the story. So it looks like Taylor Momsen's cool, unique rocker style has paid off and now this celeb is the main model for the new juniors line, Material Girl. It's a perfect fit for the Gossip Girl star as the designs were all created by the original Material Girl herself, Madonna, and her daughter Lourdes. This official announcement came shortly after cool sketches got revealed to the public as well as sweet behind-the-scenes vids of Madonna and Lourdes working away got released. Basically, we've been hearing about the clothes for months - the mini dresses, skinny jeans, studded leather jackets and funky accessories - but it's finally time to see the actual fashions for yourself. Material Girl hits select Macy's exclusively on August 3rd. Make sure you subscribe to ClevverTV on YouTube for all of your fashion news. Remember that we still need to amp up our subscriber numbers before we can start-up the Fashion Faceoff again... Thanks for watching the show, I'm Dana Ward and we'll see you next time.

Meet the Izikhotane—a subculture among black youths in South Africa's townships who buy expensive designer clothes they cannot afford and then engage in elaborate dance-offs with rival gangs to demonstrate who is the most extravagant. Often, this involves destroying their clothing and setting fire to money.
It's not easy being an Izikhotane. In the twenty years since the first democratic elections, a strong black middle class has emerged in South Africa but the gap between rich and poor, already one of the widest in the world, has grown. Izikhotane are mostly teenagers from working class families who are obsessed with appearing wealthy despite their modest means. Some observers believe it's a way to escape the poverty around them. Others say it simply reflects a "culture of bling."
Vocativ recently went to Soweto to hang out with some Izikhotane as they prepared for a weekend showdown in the township.

How to Draw Fabric after a drawing by Leonardo da Vinci

Circle Line Art School
Leonardo da Vinci was born in 1452 in Vinci in Italy and loved to draw. He kept notebooks which are full of his thoughts and observations in words and sketches.
Leonardo is famous for painting the Mona Lisa, perhaps the most famous painting in the world. It is now in The Louvre in Paris. There are only around fifteen of his paintings that have survived, but there are many of his notebooks and drawings.
He drew whatever he was interested in and drawing was a way for him to understand what he was seeing. Sometimes his drawings are preparatory studies for parts of paintings.
The Drawing in this art video is from 'Drapery Study for a Seated Figure" by Leonardo da Vinci, ca. 1470-75. It is now in The Louvre, Paris.
The materials da Vinci used were a brush and gray tempera highlighted with white on a gray prepared linen canvas. The size of the original is 26.5 x 25.3 cm.
In this drawing you can see Leonardo da Vinci's obsession with how light falls on fabric. The cloth he drew from would have been made wet and then placed on a clay sculpture or mannequin and allowed to dry.
Leonardo da Vinci thought that all artists should keep a notebook or sketchbook to record what they see and notice before they forgot it.
Leonardo da Vinci died in 1519 in Amboise in France.
