This was a project that I did this year with a group of friends from university of Leeds for our module in Design and Manufacture.
The aim of the project was to build a car that would be capable of accelerating after the one meter from been released , this specific task was not an easy as it had to powered with a maximum of four elastic bands that would had to be wound around a axle .
My group was made of seven people and each of us came up with idea that was developed using a 3D modeling software "solidworks".We then had a few meeting where we all shared our points of view of each others buggies and made a final decision to go for the one with gears as it gave us a tremendous amount of torque in the rear axles making the be rear driven , the problem with this was that we had to compensate the wheelie that we were getting once that rubber bands were wound , so to solve this problem we used some aluminium weights that I made and we added them as needed for each race as this had a very good advantage over the rest of teams .
This car was made to last round after round and believe it or not we came up with a conclusion that the buggy preformed better with three rubber bands rather than four . The reason been was that the buggy did a time of 2.9 s for the 10 meters with 3 rubber bands rather that 9.3 s for the same distance with 4 rubber bands, the overall weight of the buggy was 253g as we added some weights to it but the original one was 230g .
This project was out of my comfort zone as I have never built something that would need such amount of calibration to make sure it went in a straight line and not to outside the track .
Thank you very much for supporting my videos . please feel free to share them , download or use in your projects as long as it is reference to me as copyright that is fine with me .

University of Leeds Language Centre and Languages at Leeds Metropolitan University joined forces again to organise the third Languages Festival, as part of the national 'Speak to the Future' campaign.
The 5-year 'Speak to the Future' campaign, launched in February 2011, aims to promote the learning of foreign languages in the UK from primary school to university level as well as in society as a whole and in employment.
More than 60 sixth-form pupils from schools around Yorkshire were given the opportunity to mix with speakers of other languages, students and tutors from both universities, and talk about the cultures and customs behind the languages. There were A-level conversation classes in French, German and Spanish as well as taster sessions in a range of other languages (Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, Italian and Russian). Again, one of the most popular sessions was a presentation from four students about their experience of Year Abroad. There were exhibitions of origami and calligraphy and information stands on Study Abroad and Admissions. The event took place in the Rose Bowl at Leeds Metropolitan University.
The festival was called "Leeds Loves Languages", which will be used as the title for other events organized by the two universities.

Award-winning bicycle tour company, ExperiencePlus!, will host an interactive Google+ Hangout on Air, "Why Take a Bike Tour?". This lively conversation focuses on the rising global popularity in cycling together with the ABCs of bicycle touring. The discussion will also clearly define the terms used to describe the vast array of bicycle tours: self-supported, self-guided, road, mountain, hybrid, guided, racing and training -- with the goal of creating a common definition that can assist travelers in selecting the right bike tour for them.
About the speakers:
Maria Elena Malpezzi-Price
Maria Elena Price is co-owner of ExperiencePlus! bicycle touring company together with her sister, Monica Malpezzi-Price. In 2008 the sisters teamed up to follow their own passion for travel, bicycles and people by purchasing the business founded by their parents in 1972. Today Maria Elena is likely one of the most experienced bicycle tour guides and managers out there (for her age!). She started her bicycle tour leading role as a 5-year-old translator of ice cream flavors for clients on their early Venice to Pisa tours. Since then, she has led tours in more than 10 countries and together with Monica was honored in 2011 as one of the Top 10 Guides in the world by National Geographic Traveler. With a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and International Affairs and an MBA from the Leeds School of Business at University of Colorado, Boulder Maria Elena currently manages the business and its development at the Fort Collins office in Colorado. Her love for going on tour to meet new clients is matched by her active involvement in her local bike community where she hosts a festive annual spring ride. ExperiencePlus! advocates bike touring as the best way to experience a country and its culture. Maria Elena can be reached by email at: mariaelena@experienceplus.com.

H&I; Adventures offers mountain bike tours to suit all levels of ability and fitness. As Euan is keen to point out, "Traveling with your mountain bike is one of the best ways to experience the world. It's not about pushing yourself to the limits of human endurance, as some people seem to think! Entry from: Varkala, India
Entry Title: "Cliff hangers in Varkala"
Entry:
"After a nightmarish train journey (10:30am til 2:30am urggghhh) characterised by sore bottoms from sitting too much, sore eyes from reading too much, and feeling very very grumpy, we finally arrived in Varkala. We quickly realised that arriving in the middle of the night was not ideal, as everything closes fairly early and India is difficult enough to negotiate at the best of times, let alone in the pitch black cover of night. Therefore, our tedious 18 hour journey was followed by a stressful 45 minutes, during which we tried aimlessly to haggle with a rip-off merchant rickshaw driver who was charging an extortionate amount to take us from the station to the accommodation near to the beach (he was one of few drivers out at that time, and the only one that was prepared to wake up so we had little choice!), coupled with the rapid realisation that we were never going to be able to find the hotel with whom we made a reservation (we still haven't found it) or indeed, any hotel at all that was open! Eventually we found a nice place and woke up the watchman to let us in, but not before we had driven around the cliff front multiple times, cursing the lonely planet for its rubbish directions (admittedly Al got his own back on the LP as he managed to drown it in a puddle of muddy water when the rickshaw bounced over a pothole).
Anyway, after a good night's sleep and a shower our second impression of Varkala was decidedly more positive. Described by the (now soiled) Lonely Planet as the "new Goa", benefiting from just enough commercialism to make it relaxing and enjoyable, but not so much as to ruin the beauty of the resort, the guide claims (a bit cheesily) that "long-termers love this place". After four days here we can add that short-termers think it's not bad either. The bars, restaurants and guesthouses line the steep cliff front that gives way to a fairly small stretch of beach - a beach that perhaps does not compete with its Thai equivalents, but for us represented the resort that we have been looking for. Varkala (and India in general) seems to attract a much more diverse crowd of travellers of different ages and nationalities, so it was refreshing to share the beach with someone other than Leeds University graduates and groups of lads from North London. Additionally, Indian tourists and locals also spend time on the beach (albeit fully clothed in saris and trousers and shirts), which gives the sense that it has retained its authenticity.
Another positive to Varkala has been the food, particularly the seafood, which has been amazing. We have indulged in barracuda and swordfish curries so far (which just about beat the frozen sausage curries we were knocking up at home last year) - and all for a couple of quid - it would be rude not to really,
Today is our final day on the beach (but out of the sun - factor 30 and sun brollies do not seem to have much of an impact here). Tomorrow morning we are taking the train to Kollam to take a boat through the Keralan backwaters - the reported highlight of a trip to this region.
Until then, byeeee xx"
