    Thread that all politicians need to read...

    A new round of data from Australian Energy Statistics was released to day and the Minister is keen to let you know that gas use grew. Putting aside the fact that 2% growth isn't really 'strong' by any measure (renewables grew by 16%) this is misleading. (A thread)

    The gas being sent overseas overseas and the gas that the gas industry is burning to send Australian gas overseas is enough to meet Australia's entire gas needs three times over. What gas shortage?

    An example of how to mislead with words & a fantastic debunking thread. Gas use in electricity shrunk 5%. Gas use in manufacturing shrunk 3%. Renewables grew 16%. Now read the press release. Then read the thread. A gas-led recovery? 🙈 (h/t 👏🏻)

    This it's outrageous the Otway basin is under threat from offshore gas drilling . The coastline is already being eroded by sea level rise, a problem burning fossil fuels only makes worse.

    Because there are fewer than 300 left in SE Australia. Come on Vic, it's not too late to show environmental leadership and scrap the gas drilling in Vic waters.
