Deadly Battles of World War I - Verdun the Nightmare
The Battle of Verdun was the longest and deadliest battle of the First World War, lasting ten months, with 700,000 killed and hundreds of thousands of others wounded. Verdun was a strongly fortified region on the eastern border of France and the Germans determined that if they could take it, France’s defenses would collapse. Europe Prior to World War I: Alliances and Enemies I PRELUDE TO WW1 - Part 1/3
To understand World War One completely, you need to understand what happened before. In 1914, Europe was on the verge of modernity. The German Reich, France, Great Britain and Austria-Hungary were fighting over influence and colonies. Russia was gaining more and more power while the Ottoman Empire was only a shadow of its former self. Meanwhile, smaller nations were striving towards independence t

Deadly Battles of World War I - Ypres the Gas Inferno
Poison gas killed 80,000 soldiers in World War I. Nearly a million more were victims who suffered its lingering effects. It's not the statistics, however, that make this a successful documentary. A surprising amount

In which John Green teaches you about the war that was supposed to end all wars. Instead, it solved nothing and set the stage for the world to be back at war just a couple of decades later. As an added bonus, World War I changed the way people look at the world, and normalized cynicism and irony. John will teach you how the assassination of an Austrian Archduke kicked off a new kind of war that involved more nations and more people than any war that came before. New technology like machine guns, airplanes, tanks, and poison gas made the killing more efficient than ever. Trench warfare and modern weapons led to battles in which tens of thousands of soldiers were killed in a day, with no ground gained for either side. World War I washed away the last vestiges of 19th century Romanticism and paved the way for the 20th century modernism that we all know and find to be cold and off-putting. While there may not be much upside to WWI, at least it inspired George M. Cohan to write the awesome song, "Over There."

Everything you need to know about the first year of World War One in a 12 minute video.
'World War One - 1914' is the first of a five-part series covering the Great War. This episode covers the rival alliances that dominated Europe in the build-up to war, the Triple Alliance and the Triple Entente, and the fatal gunshots at Sarajevo that led to the death of Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the throne of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
Imperial rivalries, the system of alliances and deep-seated animosities helped propel Europe into a general war. However Woodrow Wilson, the US President, ensured America stood apart from Europe's conflict. In August 1914, Germany invaded France and Belgium as part of the Schlieffen Plan. The tiny British Expeditionary Force could only hold up the German army for a few hours at the Battle of Mons, but later joined the French in saving Paris at the Battle of the Marne. The 'Race to the Sea' followed, leading to the First Battle of Ypres, as both sides tried to outflank each other to the north. Their failure led to a stalemate, in which the devastating power of machineguns and artillery forced infantry of both sides to take cover in deep trenches.
At sea, Britain's Royal Navy won the war's first naval battle at Heligoland Bight, and imposed a naval blockade on Germany, preventing war supplies (including, controversially, food) from reaching the country by sea. HMS Pathfinder was soon sunk by a German U-boat, revealing the potential of Germany's submarines to overturn Britain's long-held naval dominance.
On the Eastern Front, a Russian invasion of East Prussia ended in disaster at the Battle of Tannenberg, masterminded by German generals Paul von Hindenburg and Erich Ludendorff. A second victory at the Battle of Masurian Lakes sent the Russian army into retreat. Austria-Hungary's invasion of Serbia began badly, with defeat at the Battle of Cer. Things went even worse on the Russian front, as Austria's offensive against the Russians leads to heavy losses, and forced Germany to come to the rescue, by launching the Battle of Łódź.
In Africa, British, French and German colonial forces clashed in British East Africa (Kenya), Togoland (Togo), German South-West Africa (Namibia), and German Kamerun (Cameroon). German Colonel Paul von Lettow-Vorbek had notable success repelling the British at the Battle of Tanga.
In the Pacific, Japan honoured its alliance with Britain and seized the German naval base at Tsingtao in China. Task forces from Australia and New Zealand secured the German colonies of Samoa and New Guinea. German Admiral von Spee's East Asia Squadron won victory at the Battle of Coronel, off Chile, before sailing into catastrophe at the Battle of the Falkland Islands. In the Middle East, British troops occupied Basra, securing access to Persian oil for their fleet.
Winter 1914 saw the French launch their first major offensive to break the trench stalemate of the Western Front. But the First Battle of Champagne led to heavy losses for no real gains. Ottoman operations in the Caucasus Mountains also ended in disaster at the Battle of Sarikamish. The war's first Christmas was marked by games of football in No Man's Land on the Western Front, but early hopes of a short war had now been entirely quashed.

In which John Green teaches you about American involvement in World War I, which at the time was called the Great War. They didn't know there was going to be a second one, though they probably should have guessed, 'cause this one didn't wrap up very neatly. So, the United States stayed out of World War I at first, because Americans were in an isolationist mood in the early 20th century. That didn't last though, as the affronts piled up and drew the US into the war. Spoiler alert: the Lusitania was sunk two years before we joined the war, so that wasn't the sole cause for our jumping in. It was part of it though, as was the Zimmerman telegram, unrestricted submarine warfare, and our affinity for the Brits. You'll learn the war's effects on the home front, some of Woodrow Wilson's XIV Points, and just how the war ended up expanding the power of the government in Americans' lives.

German strategists realized it would be an extremely costly undertaking but calculated that it would be worth the lives of thousands of soldiers to achieve their objectives. The fact that the French were likely to defend the fortress with all available men was looked upon as an opportunity to killed tens of thousands of Frenchmen as efficiently as possible.

Meanwhile, smaller nations were striving towards independence to fulfil their dream of being an sovereign state. In our first special episode about the prelude to World War 1, Indy explains what Europe was like in 1914.

From the summer of 1914 to November 1918, the Great War cost over 14 million lives, devastated entire countries and destroyed countless architectural landmarks. The war also led to important developments in literature, technology, music and social equality that have shaped the culture of 21st century America. Monuments and dedications to World War I veterans surround Americans today as a tribute to their service and sacrifice.
Charles Whittlesey of the Lost Battalion and Father Duffy of the Fighting 69th became famous for surviving against impossible odds. Pilots Victor Chapman and Quentin Roosevelt and ambulance drivers like Richard Hall made the supreme sacrifice

Poison gas killed 80,000 soldiers in World War I. Nearly a million more were victims who suffered its lingering effects. Initially the wind distributed chlorine gas across the battlefields of the western front but an arms race quickly developed until one in three shells contained some form of toxic gas.
It's not the statistics, however, that make this a successful documentary. A surprising amount of black-and-white footage and interviews with survivors and relatives of key players tell a compelling tale of motivations and consequences. For those who adhere to the maxim that history repeats itself, it's worth noting that despite an international convention banning chemical weapons, both sides of the Great War deployed poison gases with few reservations. As one interviewee puts it, patriotism defeated morality.

None of the soldiers wore metal helmets in 1914. The French were the first to introduce them in 1915. Future prime minister Winston Churchill wore a French one during his time on the front in 1916.
Famous people who served include the writers A. A. Milne, creator of Winnie the Pooh, Lord of The Rings author JRR Tolkien, sculptor Henry Moore, and the actor Basil Rathbone.
The Germans were the first to use flamethrowers in WWI. Their flamethrowers could fire jets of flame as far as 130 feet (40 m).
The Eiffel Tower intercepted German radio messages leading to the execution of Dutch exotic dancer and arguably the most famous female spy in history: Mata Hari. Though she always denied being a spy, the French executed her in 1917.
France, not Germany, was the first country to use gas against enemy troops in WWI. In August 1914, they fired the first tear gas grenades (xylyl bromide) against the Germans. In January 1915, Germany first used tear gas against Russian armies, but the gas turned to liquid in the cold air. In April 1915, the Germans were the first to use poisonous chlorine gas.
Initially the only protection against gas attacks was a cloth soaked in a soldier’s own urine. British officer Edward Harrison invented the first practical gas mask, saving thousands of lives.

Did the fault lie with Austria-Hungary? Germany? Russia? Julius Caesar? One thing we can say for sure is that you can't blame the United States of America for this one. Woohoo! This summer marks the centennial of the outbreak of World War I, perhaps the most transformative war in history. While the wars of the French Revolution and the Napoleonic wars harnessed national populations to the war effort in a way not previously seen since the emergence of the modern states system, WWI combined the mobilization of both populations and industrial power, enhanced by technology, to produce a most lethal form of warfare. WWI also redrew the map of Europe and created the modern Middle East, as it led to the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, the Russian Empire, and the Ottoman Empire, thereby unleashing nationalism the disruptive characteristics of which still plague us today. It also paved the way for the great ideological conflicts of the 20th century by unleashing the forces of state-based communism and fascism. To commemorate the outbreak of The Great War, FPRI and ROA will present a workshop offering presentations by three eminent scholars of the war. Michael Neiberg of the US Army War College will discuss the factors that led to the outbreak of the war. John Schindler of the US Naval War College will discuss the often overlooked role of Austria-Hungary in the war and the Eastern and Italian fronts. Kate Epstein of Rutgers University-Camden will discuss the role of pre-war British defense policy in the outbreak of the conflict. Mac Owens, editor of Orbis and professor at the Naval War College, will moderate the panel.

What if Germany in 1914 would have focused on Russia in the opening days of the conflict while keeping weaker forces in the West against France, would have not invaded Belgium, would have accepted a quick armistice with Russia, what if Austria would have granted Trento and Gorizia to Italy, with Italy joining the Central Empires?? And what would have happened in the following years, if Triple Entente would have lost the First World War?

He explains how the fall of The Berlin Wall was nothing more than a false flag and how this ties into the Hegelian Dialectic, Victoria Nuland’s use of profanity towards the European Union, Henry Kissinger, The Bilderberg Group, Barak Obama, The Council on Foreign Relations, ISIS, The War on Terror, Svoboda, and how all right wing racist movements are run by the CIA, our march towards World War 3 and when we can expect the WAR to start, how to prepare, what to do, and the implications towards yourself and your children. June 6 marks the anniversary of D-Day. Mr. Sergio Moirano, a United States veteran of World War II living in Belgium, talks about his experience before and during the allied landing on the beaches of Normandy, France on June 6, 1944 in this interview taped by the U.S. Embassy to Belgium in 2010 (http://belgium.usembassy.gov).
The following are excerpts from President Obama's speech at the D-Day 65th Anniversary Ceremony:
[...] It was unknowable then, but so much of the progress that would define the 20th century, on both sides of the Atlantic, came down to the battle for a slice of beach only six miles long and two miles wide. More particularly, it came down to the men who landed here -- those who now rest in this place for eternity, and those who are with us here today. Perhaps more than any other reason, you, the veterans of that landing, are why we still remember what happened on D-Day. You're why we keep coming back.
For you remind us that in the end, human destiny is not determined by forces beyond our control. You remind us that our future is not shaped by mere chance or circumstance. Our history has always been the sum total of the choices made and the actions taken by each individual man and woman. It has always been up to us.
[...] Friends and veterans, we cannot forget. What we must not forget is that D-Day was a time and a place where the bravery and the selflessness of a few was able to change the course of an entire century. At an hour of maximum danger, amid the bleakest of circumstances, men who thought themselves ordinary found within themselves the ability to do something extraordinary. They fought for their moms and sweethearts back home, for the fellow warriors they came to know as brothers. And they fought out of a simple sense of duty -- a duty sustained by the same ideals for which their countrymen had once fought and bled for over two centuries.

Antony C Sutton gave an interview back in 1980 discussing his research on the funding of World War II, when American and European financiers were funding both the Nazi party and the communists.
Sutton was an economics professor at California State University, Los Angeles and a research fellow at Stanford University's Hoover Institution from 1968 to 1973.
In 1973, Sutton published a popularized, condensed version of the three volumes called National Suicide: Military Aid to the Soviet Union and was thereby forced out of the Hoover Institution. His conclusion from his research on the issue was that the conflicts of the Cold War were "not fought to restrain communism", since the United States, through financing the Soviet Union "directly or indirectly armed both sides in at least Korea and Vietnam"; rather, these wars were organised in order "to generate multibillion-dollar armaments contracts"
For impressive evidence of Western participation in the early phase of Soviet economic growth, see Antony C. Sutton's Western Technology and Soviet Economic Development: 1917--1930, which argues that 'Soviet economic development for 1917--1930 was essentially dependent on Western technological aid' (p.283), and that 'at least 95 per cent of the industrial structure received this assistance.' (p. 348).
Sutton died June 17, 2002 at the age of 77.

Charles Dukes enlisted in the Army in October, 1943, during his sophomore year at Indiana University. He was shipped overseas 80 days after D-day, entering battle in the Cherbourg Peninsula. He fought through Belgium, Holland and Germany. Dukes was captured Nov. 23, 1944, spending six months in Runddorf, a labor camp near the Czech border. He escaped several different times, finally making it to the Elbe River where Americans were being exchanged one-for-one for Russians.

Sam Weldon grew up in Champaign, Ill., a Midwestern college town. He was drafted and became a member of the 4th Marines Division at 18. Following a shortened training session, he and his fellow Marines were put on ships and sent to the Pacific. He was part of the second wave to land on Iwo Jima. His stories of the days and nights of battles there are amazing and touching and very human. He became a Corporal when the officers ranked above him were killed. Weldon talks about friendships made and friends lost and those who survived during the fights on Iwo Jima and afterward. His stories of being discharged and celebrating in Chicago add another picture. Looking back over it all, he can still say he would do it all again.

God Declares World War 3 Prophecy #77A Feb 3 2016

What you are about to hear is another prophecy from the prophet who prophesied Japan's judgments of God...SIXTEEN years PRIOR to March 11 2011! http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x2ljam4_prophecy-to-japan-16-years-prior-to-2011-tsunami_news
JESUS DECLARES WORLD WAR 3 On Sinners Worldwide ! God is pissed off at sinners worldwide! Therefore, He has officially declared the start of WW3 on Earth. It is NOT being started by Russia, ISIS, Israel, or any other Khazarian Mafia breed of greed and genocide regimes, but by GOD ALMIGHTY, ie Jesus Christ...who is the sinner's/hypocrite's greatest TERRORIST. The world is ignoring His worldwide call and command to repent of sinning. This call began November 19 2013, twenty-five months ago. God has no more options of general mercy and patience with sinners on Earth. Therefore, He resorts to getting the BIG STICK out, and beating sinners (to death in most cases) ... in hopes that some may finally cave in and repent.
Deuteronomy 25
V2... then if the guilty man deserves to be beaten, the judge shall cause him to lie down and be beaten in his presence with a number of stripes in proportion to his offense.
Revelation 19
V11... Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war.
Jesus is NOT all love and hugs, as false preachers like Joel Osteen have been lying to you. He is a MAN OF WAR- Exodus 15:3.
Repent or perish!! Luke 13:3-5

I makin it rain terror durka you ain't fuckin ready
I set down my AK I'm gonna use the machete
So I can carve like a sculpture on display at the Getty
Before I spill your brains out and make em look like spaghetti
I'm the number 1 Don, I am the Ayatollah
So you betta think twice yeah you betta hold up
If you fuck with me, man I thought I told ya
I'll hit you with the force of a Jedi soldier!
I'm a fuckin sorcerer, yeah they call me Jafar
And I like to torture, I should be on 24.
Hit you with my Dragonov to take you out from afar
Bin Laden up my arsenal and now I'm ready for war!
So if you a gambling man come to my fuckin ghetto
Where you can lose a hand if you a fuckin clepto
Removing jokers from the pack like they is Charlie Hebdo,
But you don't need that poker face after you lose your head though.
When I ride on enemies, expect me to be homicidal
People asking me why my tendencies suicidal
If they catch me alive, you think I'm gonna get a trial?
Then you must be Egyptian cause you in fuckin denial
But the West can't never catch me cause I'm too elusive
Like a rebel from Ciara, always ahead two-steps
Beat the shit out TSA because I'm Abu Yusef
And now I always fly for free I get that all-inclusive
[Chorus x2] I don't wanna passover before I pass this message on,
I could rhyme all day yeah I could Babylon and on,
It's time for World War Ji and we about to have some fun!
Fast and furious that's why we call this Rhyme-adan
They called me terrorist Islamic fundamentalist
After I blew up a Subway cause they gave me a six-inch,
So I became a stowaway on a train direct to Madrid
And now I'm wearing a torero runnin from the bullshit!
But I'm an Ottoman so I hijacked a German Panzer
Took it on the Autobahn with a tank full of belly dancers
So many jäger bombs I started growin fuckin antlers,
But I got asylum directly from the German chancelor
I'm told I'm the shiite cause the way Iraq the mic,
And Iran from the police cause theres nowhere to fuckin hide
From Big Brothers prying eyes, but I'll still live and let ya die,
Like 007 beat Octopussy like a spy
Or hide under a cloak like an Arab Harry Potter
Made your girl shave her pussy so she'd be a box cutter
Now its so smooth I can't believe it's not butter
But I still came in her mouth and now she g-g-gotta a stutter
Met a virgin in Japan turned her into a nympho
Now she suck a dick like Yoshi from Nintendo
Swallowed a 1UP said "domo arigato"
And then I roundhoused her out my house like an ISIS ninja!
Like a soviet, invade pussy like Ukraine
Putin my dick in they mouth, so they know how my dictate,
You scared motherfucker yeah I see that Euphrates,
That we gon' bring this party back to USA!!!
[Chorus x2]

13. The Origins of World War I
France Since 1871 (HIST 276)
The traditional, diplomatic history of World War I is helpful in understanding how a series of hitherto improbable alliances come to be formed in the early years of the twentieth century. In the case of France and Russia, this involves a significant ideological compromise. Along with the history of imperial machinations, however, World War I should be understood in

Using 3D images that were taken at the time Tony connects with the men that were killed and the landscapes in which they fell. He explores the stalemate of trench warfare through 1915 and 1916 and examines the cutting edge technologies that were used to try and make breakthroughs. France Since 1871 (HIST 276)
The traditional, diplomatic history of World War I is helpful in understanding how a series of hitherto improbable alliances come to be formed in the early years of the twentieth century. In the case of France and Russia, this involves a significant ideological compromise. Along with the history of imperial machinations, however, World War I should be understood in the context of the popular imagination and the growth of nationalist sentiment in Europe.

This feature-length documentary Blood and Oil: The Middle East in World War I exposes the Western greed and political intrigue which laid the foundation for wars, coups, revolts, oppressive dictators and military interventions in today's Middle East. Palestine, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Iraq, modern Turkey and other hot spots are born as the British and French divide the "fruits of victory" in World War I. Written and produced by Marty Callaghan, this film follows conflict from the Ottoman Empire's entry into the Great War in October 1914 to the Allied victory and declaration of the new Turkish Republic in 1923, and the hostilities that have plagued the region since.
