At the foot of Mt Nanga Parbat (8125m) in the Himalayas at an altitude of 4000-5000m in a landscape of mainly rock, ice and snow lives the snow grouse. How is she surviving in this environment that seems so hostile towards life? Shy and wild, we only get short glimpses of her as she flies past to disappear in the rocks again.

Shimmering skyscrapers and colourful heritage homes, culturally diverse neighbourhoods crammed with indie stores, cool eateries and nanobreweries, kayaking on the ocean and skiing in the mountains: this is Vancouver.
It's no wonder the successful host of the 2010 Winter Olympics features near the top of the world's most liveable cities surveys, with its meld of stylish 21st-century architecture, regenerated industrial districts and laid-back beachside neighbourhoods. Look down any street downtown and there's a strong chance you'll catch a glimpse of the North Shore Mountains, the sea or both.
The West End is chock-a-block full of juice bars and coffee shops, with colourful Davie Street home to a large gay community. In revitalised Yaletown, designer boutiques and trendy restaurants fill former warehouses, with diners spilling onto busy patios in summer. Historic Gastown and the adjacent Downtown Eastside are undergoing a stratospheric gentrification, with new condos, restaurants and high-end shops taking over decrepit or demolished buildings, sometimes controversially; hipsters and homeless rub shoulders in this rapidly evolving district.
Wave after wave of new immigrants have given Vancouver its cosmopolitan feel -- a whopping 40% of its population is foreign-born, meaning you can uncover an eclectic array of cuisines and cultures. In particular, arrivals from mainland China mean one in five of the city's residents is now of Chinese origin. Chinatown is jammed with noodle houses, bakeries, medicine shops and a lively market. Meanwhile, multicultural Commercial Drive is lined with Italian cafés and delis, and vibrant Punjabi Market is a bustling South Asian hub.
Vancouverites live for the outdoors. Year-round, hordes of joggers, in-line skaters and cyclists jostle for space on the seawall while hard-core runners pound up the lung-bustingly steep Grouse Grind trail. There are countless opportunities for rafting, mountain biking, camping and skiing; sports junkies can ski one of three local mountains and sail in English Bay on the same day.
Visitor attractions are world class too, whether you choose to edge your way round the vertigo-inducing Cliffwalk at Capilano Bridge Suspension Park, eye up ethereal jellyfish at the Vancouver Aquarium or take to the skies in a simulated helicopter ride at Flyover Canada.
Locals are known for being environmentally conscious. Vancouver has the smallest per capita carbon footprint of any North American city. Greenpeace was founded here, the public transit system is excellent and well used, bike routes are being created and improved, and the population embraces the culture of growing and buying locally. Through its Greenest City plan, Vancouver aims to become the greenest city in the world by 2020 with an ambitious vision for sustainability, zero waste and zero carbon.
All this does come at a cost to locals however: Vancouver is the most expensive place in Canada to buy a house. In 2013, the penthouse unit at the Fairmont Pacific Rim sold for a record C$25 million. Even the average detached house sells for over C$1 million. Fortunately, if you're here on holiday, you can forget about spending your life savings on a pied-à-terre and instead check in to one of Vancouver's many super-chic hotels.

This is a video from Global Traveller Lucy F. who has travelled to Canada, not only once but twice, with The Global Work & Travel Co.
Both times Lucy did a Working Holiday through us and had the time of her life. Lucy is currently still in Canada where The Global Work & Travel Co. placed her with an exciting job!
From Lucy:
"I had a fantastic experience with The Global Work & Travel Co. I had a job offer before I even arrived in Canada and was given assistance in all aspects of settling in. Travelling with The Global Work and Travel Co. gave me peace of mind and by having that, I had more time to relax and enjoy my holiday, leaving the boring things to Global. I would travel with them again and highly recommend then to other travellers. This video captures my favourite moments over the last 2 months. From departing Brisbane/ Snow boarding Grouse Mountain/ Feeding the squirrels in Stanley Park/ Ice Hockey- Vancouver Canucks V LA Kings/ Snowboarding Lake Louise Ski Area/ Red Bull Rail Jam/ Johnston's canyon Banff National Park/ Chopping Wood/ Snow Tubing/ Rooftop Spa/ Dog Sledding/ Ice skating.
In this film based on Japanese Butoh the snow grouse became the symbol for the quest of the possibility of dance in the austere spaces of the highest mountains of the world. How to meet the immense spaces with the dancer's body? The rocks? The snow? The precipices? The cold? The strain of altitude?
The glimpses of dance in this breath taking environment guide us to a poetic vision of the spring in the mountains with a strong contrast between the fragility of the living being and the power of the mountain nature.

Samesun Hostel Vancouver : www.samesun.com
friendly, clean and cheap hostel in an awesome location
Smokes Poutinerie Granville Street: smokespoutinerie.com
Tasty, unique canadian fries
YWCA Vancouver: www.ywcahotel.com
A range of choices in rooms which decrease the price. We stayed in a two bedroom room with no bathroom which decreased the price significantly. We had a "shared" hall bathroom which we never had to wait for. The hotel was quiet, clean and had shared kitchen and lounge areas. Each room also has its own TV and fridge. Highly recommend whether you are travelling on a budget or not.
Shangri La: Shangri-la.com
We were wanting to experience luxury in Vancouver and we absolutely chose the right place. From the moment you arrive the staff treat you like a star. They treated us with perfect mixture of professionalism and personalisation, suggesting places for us to shop for an outfit for the U2 concert, offering us hot chicken soup in the morning when we were feeling under the weather. Nothing was too much for this hotel. And the rooms are perfection!
Capilano Suspension Bridge: www.capbridge.com
An awesome adventure across a huge swing bridge and then over to the treetop adventure. The park has a no smoking rule and they are doing everything they can to keep the park pure and free from litter. Staff are dressed in old fashioned clothes and entertain the customers with performances. 100% check it out. They also have a free bus from downtown Vancouver over to the park.
Stanley Park: http://vancouver.ca/parks-recreation-culture/stanley-park.aspx
Walk, run or bike. There is heaps to see here. As well as the seawall there are inland tracks where you can climb up higher for a different view. Inside the park you can also find the "totem poles"
We rented our bikes from Spokes (http://www.spokesbicyclerentals.com/) they are located right by the entrance to the park, on our bikes we managed to bike around the entire perimeter of the park.
Grouse Mountain https://www.grousemountain.com/
Possibly my favourite part of the trip, grouse mountain offers a lot of selection and your bound to find something here for everyone. For those who are extra keen you can do the "Grouse Grind" where instead of catching the Skyride to the top you can actually walk it. There is an app you can even get on your phone to record your time. On average it takes around 2 hours, and I hear there are ALOT of steps. I didn't do it myself, but I saw the climbers arriving at the top and they were SWEATY.
On grouse you can have breakfast with bears, see bird shows, go up a giant wind turbine, have a mountain BBQ, catch ski lifts, see bird shows, watch movies, visit gift shops... the list goes on. My favourite part was the Zip Line!!

Planning a trip to Vancouver? Learn about the top seven places to visit and what makes them special in this travel video. If you're brave enough, walk across the Capilano Suspension Bridge, which hangs over two hundred feet above the Capilano River.
Vancouver is a city for people who like to be out and about, whether for relaxation, shopping, or exercise. In the summer, Kitsilano Beach is where Vancouverites go to unwind. It’s a little too cold for serious swimming, but the heated saltwater Kitsilano Pool makes up for that. For shopping, Robson Street is where you’ll find the best grouping of high end labels and chain stores, but Vancouver has a lot more variety to offer as well. Visit Granville Island for the eclectic charm and the Granville Island Public Market, where you’ll find the best in local art, crafts, and food. Vancouver is also a nature-lover’s paradise, with the North Shore offering easy access to hiking and skiing on Grouse Mountain. Or if you’re brave enough, walk across the Capilano Suspension Bridge, which hangs over two hundred feet above the Capilano River. If you’d rather stay closer to the city, get your nature fix in Stanley Park, which is minutes from the downtown and offers amazing views from the seawall and Prospect Point. Stanley Park is massive, but it’s far from the only place to see some greenery in Vancouver. Take a tour of the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Chinese Garden, the first Ming Dynasty-style garden to be built outside of China. Or explore the Nitobe Memorial Garden, which is considered one of the most authentic Japanese gardens outside of Japan. Whatever you do in Vancouver, you’re sure to leave feeling refreshed and re-energized.

Hi GUYS! Please do read the description, I have a number people to thank for making this vlog possible as well as the list of songs down here :3
First of all, thank you Marintan for posting this on Forum Pramugari ( forumpramugari.wordpress.com ), despite your busy schedule, prepping yourself to become an air stewardess! And for making a big deal out of this little video blog of mine, I can't thank you enough. xx
Alright, in my previous vlog, I mentioned that I was going to LA with Doni. As you can tell, it didn't happen because my swap was disapproved and so I had to fly to London, which was my original roster. A little bummed, but then I get to meet two of my old Uni friends, Mama Rozanna and the Quirky Qila, as well as Rozanna's little precious..Violet! They agreed to help me with this vlog by taking me around Notting Hill. YAY, thank you girls for the lovely day trip!
Thank you guys for watching Emma's travel vlog. Please do leave your comments and suggestions for future vlogs. I will be going to New York and Disney World soon, so psyched to make more videos for you guys.
If you guys would like to know more about the random things in my life, here are the links:

Okay, to end this little message..here are the list of songs featured in this video:
Flowers in your hair - The Lumineers
On top the world - Imagine Dragons
Sail into the sun - Gentlemen Hall
You and I - Ingrid Michaelson
Love,
Emma
