A shallow 6.4-magnitude earthquake struck southern Taiwan early Saturday morning. The quake toppled buildings, knocked out power and plunged thousands into darkness as rescue workers set out to evacuate the trapped and injured. In live broadcasts on local TV, rescuers could be seen shining spotlights into the windows of one of the collapsed buildings in the city of Tainan, and scaling the highest floors of another. One person was seen scrambling out of the wreckage as a firefighter looked on. China's state newspaper The People's Daily tweeted that "many people are said to be trapped in debris, shouting for help."

On Day 10 in Taipei, Taiwan, Ying and I decided to take a day trip to Jiufen (of Jiu Fen) and on to Keelung City and have a day of eating Taiwanese street food. I’m extremely happy we had a chance to briefly visit both Jiufen and Keelung City. I’ll just quickly go over where and how we went from Taipei to Jiufen and then on to Keelung City using timecodes so you can come back to a location in the video easily if you want to.
0:38 How to Get from Taipei to Jiufen by Bus
Using the directly I read off Wikipedia travel guide, we took the Taipei Metro to Zhongxiao Fuxing Station, then took exit 1 (Andong Street) and made an immediate u-turn, walked to the intersection and made a left, and then the bus stop was right there on the right hand side. We somehow arrived to the bus stop right as 1062 arrived and if Taiwan couldn’t make things any more easy and efficient we boarded the bus using our easy cards. The bus ride from Taipei central there to the small town of Jiufen took just over 1 hour, and we soon arrived in the touristy, but very beautiful and pleasant town of Jiufen - which is one of the biggest little tourist towns in Taiwan. You can choose to take a day trip to Jiufen from Taipei like we did, or you can even spend the night or a few nights there.
2:45 Taiwanese street food at Jiufen
Jiufen is a small little mountain town in Taiwan about 1 hour from Taipei with a great view of the ocean… and it’s turned into a major tourism destination. Although you can go there to do some shopping and buy some souvenirs, by far the main reason to go to Jiufen on a day trip is to eat as much Taiwanese street food and snacks as you can - and also there are plenty of sit-down restaurant you can eat at as well. Ying and I started our day of eating Taiwan street food by eating a plate of snails and a plate of grilled squid, both of which had quite a similar texture, and the flavor was delicious. After the snails and squid, I couldn’t resist having a Taiwanese tea egg, one of the most popular snacks. After walking around and taking loads of photos of the picturesque scenes around Jiufen, Ying and I stopped at a real restaurant to take a little break, cool down from the hot sun, and eat some more food - this time at a real restaurant. I tried a dish called three cup chicken, which was deliciously comforting. Another very famous food to eat in Jiufen is the sweet taro balls, which was pretty good.
12:24 How to get from Jiufen to Keelung City on Bus #788
After spending a few hours wandering around Jiufen, we took the bus from just up the road directly to Keelung City, one of the harbour towns in Taiwan, and about a 45 minute drive from Jiufen. The reason we wanted to go to Keelung City was to go to Keelung Miaokou Night Market, one of the most famous Taiwanese street food markets in Taiwan.
13:35 Street food at Keelung Miaokou Night Market
One of the most well known night markets in Taiwan is Keelung Miaokou Night Market, located right in Keelung City, and home to an abundance of delicious things to eat. I was actually still quite full from all the food we had already eaten in Jiufen, but I did manage to try a few things at the night market, and also I just really enjoyed the ambiance and atmosphere of the market. Ying and I luckily got a table and chairs at a small street food stall serving long finger sized dumplings, which were similar to gyoza. They were filled with minced pork and lots of green onions. Along with a plate of pickled cucumbers, and a plate of tofu, they were some of the best potsticker style dumplings I had on my entire trip to Taiwan. I also tried crab soup, and a famous street food called a Nutritious Sandwich.
Day 10 in Taiwan, and eating all sorts of Taiwanese street food snacks in both Jiufen and Keelung City was an excellent day trip.

TAIPEI — Taiwanese hit the polls in force on Saturday to elect their next president as well as a new legislature.
Of the more than 18 million eligible voters, 40 percent of them this time around were under the age of 40.
This year's presidential election was a three-way race between the Democratic Progressive Party's Tsai Ying-wen, the Kuomintang's Eric Chu and the People First Party's James Soong.
Incumbent president Ma Ying-jeou, of the Kuomintang, has played nothing but the China card with promises of good times to come for Taiwan since getting in office.
Eight years on, the economy has shown no signs of improvement, while Taiwanese citizens are increasingly worried about putting all their eggs in the China basket.
Democracy may not be the most efficient form of government, but at least you can hit the reset button every once in awhile. Say hello to the first female president in Taiwan's history … Tsai Ing-wen.

wn.com/Taiwan Elections 2016 Tsai Ing Wen Wins Landslide Victory, Becomes 1St Taiwanese Female President

A young couple were seen having sex on a Taiwan Railway train last Friday. The couple covered themselves with a jacket, but everyone could see what they were doing.
|| Watch more ballsy couples doing the nasty in public: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL5_Zg40DC3OH7dCmkOGnHh3j6zy6p0xho
A female passenger sitting next to the couple was so shocked that she immediately left her seat. A passenger sitting on the other side put her head down and pretended to be asleep.
This isn't the first time something like this happened on public transportation in Taiwan. In April a teenage girl was seen performing oral sex on her boyfriend while he pretended to be immersed in his book.
Both couples were not prosecuted because they covered themselves. Police say that unless netizens could provide explicit pictures of the couple, they can do nothing.

SEOUL — A teenage Taiwanese K-pop singer made headlines in Taiwan and China over the weekend after China flipped its lid over a Taiwan flag waving incident.
Chou Tzu-yu, 16, was forced to film an apology after a controversy erupted over her holding of a flag in a South Korean television show that was filmed several months ago.
Chinese Internet users demanded that she and her band, Twice, be banned from performing in China. So what did Chou’s South Korean management company, JYP Entertainment, do in response? They made her film an apology video.
In the video Chou says, “Hello everyone, there’s something I want to tell you all. There is only one China. The two sides of the strait are one, and I have always felt proud to be Chinese. I feel extremely apologetic to my company and to Internet friends on both sides of the strait for the hurt I have caused, and I also feel very guilty. I have decided that I will halt all of my current activities in China, and will go through some serious reflection. Again, I apologize to everyone. Sorry.”
China’s plan to influence Taiwan’s election completely backfired and only sent more Taiwanese to the polls over the weekend when they elected the Democratic Progressive Party candidate Tsai Ing-wen as president and gave the DPP majority in the legislature for the first time ever in a landslide victory over the Kuomintang party.

From Japan to China to Taiwan, there are many different styles of hot pot to be enjoyed.
What seems like a dish you have to dine out for is actually really easy to make at home: It all starts with a rich bone broth, and once you add homemade sauces, lots of fresh vegetables, meat, and noodles, you're ready to throw a hot pot party.
Sue Chan shows us how to make this perfect winter dish in your very own kitchen. And let it be known, there's no party like a hot pot party.

ROBIN NOWACKI DISCOVERS MONKS, MOUNTAINS, AND A GIGANTIC DRAGON! – IN TAIWAN................Known throughout the world for its “Made in Taiwan” trade mark this Far East island state now hopes to lure travellers by offering a delightful sub-tropical fusion of friendly people mixed with a fascinating cultural heritage and fabulous food.
Essentially Taiwan is pure China – the government of the Republic of China deposed by the communist takeover on the Chinese mainland came to this offshore island in 1949 – creating an alternative capitalist state - and as a result the few million people who fled here at the time escaped the influences of Chairman Mao Zedong’s “Cultural Revolution”.
MONKS AND VEGETARIAN MEALS
My Taiwanese experience was to include fine hotels, wonderful dining, and lively cocktail bars, but first I was to purify both body and soul by entering into a spiritual world at the Fo Guang Shan Monastery.
I had been given the opportunity to spend the best part of 24 hours here, joining the Buddhist monks and nuns at dawn for lessons and then sharing with them a vegetarian breakfast eaten in total silence.
Upon entering the monastery one leaves behind many of the pleasures we enjoy - alcohol, meat, fish, coffee, tea, and even milk, to name but a few.
As a guest I could wear my normal casual clothes, but had to dress modestly covering arms and legs. The shaven headed monks and nuns wear long woven brown robes with light beige leggings and thick woven boots – for them not even leather sandals are allowed.
By day and during the vegetarian dinner in the evening the monks and nuns were quite outgoing and communicative, and the meal of noodle dishes and hotpots, Fo Guang Shan style, was quite unique and in some cases delicious.
Just before dawn however as the chants of the monks and nuns drifted from temples and dormitories it is the time for silence and serious prayer.
Along with a handful of other guests I made my way to the main shrine dominated by three magnificent 20 foot high bronze Buddha on the altar with an incredible 14,000 more little Buddha each illuminated in the high walls.
In this candle lit and incense smoked atmospheric setting it was quite moving to listen to the devout prayers and chants punctuated at times by the deep boom from a huge ceremonial drum.
No one could question the devotion of the monks and nuns to their god, etched as it was on all their faces during the ceremony, and shortly afterwards as they sat in long rows in total silence at the breakfast of steamed bread, spinach like leaves, and watered down soya milk.
A new day had dawned and I had experienced something I stall never forget!
The Fo Guang Shan Monastery is situated in the far south of Taiwan near the second city of Kaohsiung. Most guests make a donation towards their stay (www.fgs.org.tw).............
TAIPEI
One feature of Taiwanese cities are clean safe streets, and genuinely friendly people who are usually happy to talk to you and help without any thought of reward. This also applies to Taipei, the modern capital.
Here broad shopping boulevards featuring most of the world’s top brand names are to be found, however two attractions unique to the city stand out.
The National Palace Museum houses a very large part of China’s entire artistic heritage brought to Taiwan from the Chinese mainland by the troops of the Republic of China in 1949.
Guaranteed appeal to the erudite the exceptional collection of ancient paintings, scrolls, porcelain, and statues here, give a fascinating insight into just how advanced Chinese culture was – even thousands of years ago. www.npm.gov.tw
By contrast the other Taipei attraction is definitely of the modern age, and until 2010 it was the world’s tallest building.
The Taipei 101 Tower is still in a very respectable second place with 101 stories and reaching an overall height of 509.2 metres or 1,671 feet. Its elevator is capable of ascending an incredible 1010 metres in just one minute.

Rescuers pulled hundreds of survivors from the rubble in the worst-hit city of Tainan. More than 1,200 firefighters scrambled with ladders, cranes and other equipment to the ruins of a 17-floor residential building that folded like an accordion onto its side.
Taiwan's Emergency Management Information center says that nine of the victims were found at the residential building, and that the two others were killed by falling objects elsewhere in the city of Tainan.
Local media said the building included a care center for newborns and mothers, and a newborn was among the dead in the disaster. The quake came two days before the start of Lunar New Year celebrations that mark the most important family holiday in the Chinese calendar.
Most people were caught asleep when the magnitude-6.4 earthquake occurred at about 4 a.m., 22 miles southeast of Yujing. It struck only 6 miles underground, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
"It first starting shaking horizontally, then up and down, then a big shake right to left," said Tainan resident Lin Bao-gui, a second-hand car salesman whose cars were smashed when the residential complex across the street from him collapsed.
"I stayed in my bed but jumped up when I heard the big bang that was the sound of the building falling," he said.
The Taiwanese news website ET Today reported that a mother and daughter were among the survivors from the Wei Guan residential complex, and that the girl drank her urine while waiting to be rescued, which happened sooner than expected.
Rescuers went apartment to apartment, drawing red circles near windows of apartments they already had searched.
"I went to the top floors of the middle part of the building, where we found five people, one of whom was in bed and already dead," said Liu Wen-bin, a 50-year-old rescuer from Taichung. "Some people were found in the shower, some in the bedroom."
Elsewhere in Tainan, dozens more people were rescued or safely evacuated from a market and a seven-floor building that was badly damaged, the official China Central News Agency reported. A bank building also careened, but no injuries were reported, it said.
As dawn broke, Taiwanese TV showed survivors being brought gingerly from the high-rise, including an elderly woman in a neck brace and others wrapped in blankets. The trappings of daily life — a partially crushed air conditioner, pieces of a metal balcony, windows — lay twisted in rubble.

An earthquake has toppled buildings in the south Taiwanese city of Tainan, killing at least five people.
Rescue teams have been trying to reach people trapped in rubble since the magnitude 6.4 quake struck just before 04:00 (20:00 GMT Friday).
A baby was among four people killed when a high-rise block collapsed. At least 155 people have been injured.
President Ma Ying-jeou promised an "all-out effort" to rescue people when he arrived in the city.Shelters would be set up for those who had lost their homes in the city of two million people, he said.
The fifth death was caused by objects falling from a water tower, officials said.
The quake was shallow, meaning its effects would have been amplified, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said.
There have also been at least five aftershocks.
Beijing has offered assistance although at the moment at least, given the relatively limited scale of the disaster, it does not look as if much outside help is needed, the BBC's John Sudworth reports from the Chinese capital.
Back in 1999, when a 7.6 magnitude quake killed more than 2,300 people in central Taiwan, a similar offer of help from the mainland became embroiled in political wrangling, with Taiwan accusing China of exploiting the situation for its own political ends, our correspondent adds.
Leaning ruins
Although the damage does not appear to be widespread, a number of tall buildings have been left leaning precariously.
Television pictures showed rescue workers frantically trying to reach people trapped in collapsed buildings, using ladders to climb over piles of rubble.
More than 220 people have been rescued.
But Interior Minister Chen Wei-jen said he feared more people may have been in the fallen apartment block than usual as families gathered to celebrate Chinese New Year.
He said investigators would examine whether the building's construction met requirements.

An earthquake has toppled buildings in the south Taiwanese city of Tainan, killing at least 11 people.
The magnitude 6.4 quake struck just before 04:00 (20:00 GMT Friday) when most people were at home asleep.
A baby was among at least four people killed when a high-rise building, containing 100 homes, collapsed.
At least 30 people remain missing. Tainan's mayor said people were alive but trapped under the rubble and all means would be used to rescue them.
President Ma Ying-jeou, who toured the city of two million, said shelters would be set up for those who had lost their homes.
Leaning ruins
Television pictures showed rescue workers frantically trying to reach people trapped in collapsed buildings, using ladders to climb over piles of rubble.
One of the worst affected was the 17-storey Wei Kuan apartment complex, home to at least 256 people.
More than 200 people were rescued, but a baby, young girl and two adult men did not survive, officials said. At least 70 people were taken to hospital.
Interior Minister Chen Wei-jen said he feared more people may have been in the fallen apartment block than usual as families gathered to celebrate Chinese New Year.
He said investigators would examine whether the building's construction met requirements.
Residents told how they were able to escape from their homes in the block, using their own tools and ladders.
"I used a hammer to break the door of my home which was twisted and locked, and managed to climb out," one woman told local TV.
Another man tied clothes together to make a rope and lowered himself from the ninth floor to the sixth floor below, Apple Daily reports.
One Tainan resident said his bed turned over as the wall collapsed. "My home completely turned into debris. I didn't know what was happening. I was really frightened as I have never seen such an earthquake," he said.
A 35-year-old woman described how she and her two children were pulled from the rubble.
"Rescue workers broke through (the building) layer by layer. And they asked us to climb out but I said my children are too small to climb. So they dug a bigger hole. Then one rescue worker tried his best to climb in and take the children out. Then I slowly climbed out myself," she said.
The quake was shallow, meaning its effects would have been amplified, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said.
There have also been at least five aftershocks. The quake was felt in the capital Taipei, 300 km away.
Although the damage does not appear to be widespread, a number of tall buildings have been left leaning precariously.
There are also reports of power outages, and transport links have been disrupted on what is one of the busiest travelling days of the year ahead of the Chinese New Year holiday.
Taiwan lies near the junction of two tectonic plates and often sees tremors.

Ye Xianglun (Jay Chou), a music student majoring in piano, transfers to Tamkang (Danjiang) Secondary School. It is a school famous for musically talented students, especially in piano. On the first day of school, as he wanders through the piano building, he hears a mysterious melody being played that leads him to Lu Xiaoyu (Gwei Lun-mei), another piano major. When he asks her about the song she was playing, she tells him that it is a secret that cannot be told. The two develop a relationship that is clouded in mystery. When Xianglun tells Xiaoyu about the demolition of the piano building on graduation day, she teaches him the mysterious song.
However, when a mis-passed note leads to Xianglun accidentally kissing another student Qing Yi (Alice Tzeng), Xiaoyu disappears for five months, only to return on graduation day and mysteriously disappear again. Xianglun asks around and discovers from Xiaoyu's mother and his father (Anthony Wong Chau-sang) that Xiaoyu was actually a student from the class of 1979, who graduated 20 years ago. His father tells him she claimed she traveled forward in time to the present with the help of a piano piece called "Secret" that she played on an old piano in the piano building. She had fallen in love with Xianglun, but the only barrier is that, in the present, the first person she sees on each trip is the only person that can see her.
When Xiaoyu saw Qing Yi kiss Xianglun, she returned to her normal time. During her absence at home, her story spread and everyone believed that she was mentally ill. Remembering that the piano room would be destroyed on graduation day of 1999, she tried time traveling to see Xianglun one last time, but she spotted Xianglun wearing Qing Yi's bracelet. Believing that Xianglun now belonged to Qing Yi, Xiaoyu returns to her own time with a heavy heart. Due to an asthma attack, while writing on her desk trying to leave a message to the boy she loves, Xiaoyu dies. The message formulates in the present due to the fact that Xiaoyu would not have written the message if she had not seen Xianglun wearing Qing Yi's bracelet. Xianglun sees the writing on the desk and desperately tries to write back using white out but when he gets no response he rushes to Xiaoyu's house only to find her room empty. Xiaoyu's mother finally recognises Xianglun as the boy her daughter had drawn a picture of twenty years before and Xianglun learns the truth about her time travels.
After finally learning of Xiaoyu's story, Xianglun realizes that the piece that she taught him was "Secret", which had the power to take the pianist forward or backward in time depending on the tempo at which it is played. He rushes off to the piano room, which is about to be torn down. Xianglun's father retrieves the manuscript of the musical piece that Xiaoyu had given to him for safekeeping, then realises that Xiaoyu had written a secret message for Xianglun. Meanwhile, Xianglun enters the piano building and as the demolition begins, Xianglun starts to play "Secret" from memory, recalling something Xiaoyu told him while teaching him the piece: "I always play it that fast when I go back". Just before the piano room is completely destroyed, Xianglun travels back to 1979. Because the time traveled backwards is dependent on how fast the user plays "Secret," it is likely that Xianglun was able to travel to a time before Xiaoyu found "Secret" due to the fact that he was one of the best pianists in the school and most likely could have played the piece faster than Xiaoyu. He sees Xiaoyu, and she sees him and smiles. The last scene is when the 1979 Tamkang (Danjiang) Secondary School graduation picture is taken, in which Xianglun and Xiaoyu are present. As the old piano and the piano building have been destroyed, Xianglun stays forever in the past with Xiaoyu. The magic that the time machine possessed was destroyed when Xianglun traveled back in time at the moment the piano was destroyed.

This is my personal collection of Teresa Teng's songs in Taiwanese. All these 25 songs have previously been uploaded in my other YT channels since December, 2007. This has been the first time that I present all 25 individual songs in one long video, with improved editing and photo/picture selections. My omission of the song 愛人呀你去叨位 is an oversight of mine, as it is in my personal collection of "The Golden Tripod Awards Vol. 2, song #11"
I respectfully dedicate this entire video to Melodydamor, whose hard work and cooperation have made this upload possible. Melodydamor has done the majority of the Taiwanese lyric authentication, along with suggestions in the proper translations of this language medium into English. Many songs in this collection have been jointly translated by me and Melodydamor.
Some beautiful background materials and pictures have been contributed by eddiefoosn (photos in 丟丟銅 Dieu Dieu Dang, 碎心花 Broken-Hearted Flower and 天黑黑 Sky Black Black) and cat001001 (Teresa Teng's picture clips in 思相枝 Memories and 緣投囝仔 Good-Looking Boy), in addition to the background clip of 走馬燈 Carousel Lamp (at 32:53) from AaABabyvideo (http://youtu.be/-hwFHDtVd0A), to whom I am extremely grateful.
苦海女神龍 Lady Dragon Of The Bitter Sea (at 48:47) - has an original Japanese melody. The Mandarin song with the same melody is 誰來愛我 Who Will Love Me. The Japanese original is 港町ブルース. Masami43A has uploaded that at /watch?v=0c0sVO0RhP4
According to Masami43, 快楽的出航 (at 51:23) was also originated from a Japanese song 初めての出航 (Hajimete no shukkou, meaning "the first sailing") originally sung by 曽根史郎 (Sone Shirou) in 1958. He is still active now (84 years old).
The following was sung by a Taiwanese singer.
江蕙-初めての出航 (快樂的出帆)日語
初めての出航 曽根史郎 台:快樂的出帆 カラオケ(カラ)
Time marks have been provided preceding each song for "individual song selections", if preferred:

This project was supposed of being included in part 2 of "I want to kiss Joe Cheng" but as there were many sequences I didn't want to cut and the length exceeded greatly, I decided to gather them in a special of the drama "The Rose", which is based in the manga "Bara no Tameni". It is a really nice drama and if you haven´t watched yet I recommend to do so before having a look to this video thus reveals many key sequences and might spoil the plot for you.
Note: I don't own the rights for the music. This is a fan made video and all songs are part of the "The Rose" Ost.
Music:
Titles: Hua Dou Kai Hao Le (spring version- instrumental)
1- "Hua Dou Kai Hao Le" (The Flowers Bloomed) by S.H.E.
2- "Yao Lan Qu" by Power Station
3- "Yao Lan Qu" instrumental
4- "Ye Xu You Yi Tian" (Maybe one day) by JS
5- "Shang Kou" by Zhang Zhi Cheng
6- "Forever" by Z-Chen
7- "Ye Zi" by Ah Sang
8- "Ye Zi" instrumental
