Close up of a woman watching chinese car displayed STORYLINE: Ailing world automakers showcased their new designs in this year's Shanghai Auto Show that opened on Monday hoping a quick survival in Chinese market, while Chinese home-grown automakers were eager to go "bottom fishing" in the auto industry for self-upgrades during the crisis. Thousands of new designs from world automakers including auto giants Ford and GM were showcased in Shanghai's biannual auto show. As the whole auto industry is suffering from world financial crisis, some auto companies are expecting the performance in Chinese market can help for a quick revival. "It's a key market for us and we are intent to do well in this market," said Nigel Harris, the General Manager of Changan Ford Automobile Company. Chinese auto market is the only major market that is still growing. Auto sales in China hit a monthly record of 1.11 million (m) vehicles in March, exceeding US sales for the third month in a row, as tax cuts and rebates for small car purchases lured buyers back into showrooms. Meanwhile, some domestic brands who have seen continuous sales increase in Chinese auto market do not hide their ambitions to go "bottom fishing" when their foreign competitors are suffering from huge loss due to world financial crisis.
