L.L.Bean, Inc., branded as L.L.Bean, is an American, privately held, mail-order, online, and retail company founded in 1912 by Leon Leonwood Bean. The company is currently based in Freeport, Maine, United States. It specializes in clothing and outdoor recreation equipment. Its annual sales were USD $1.56 billion in 2013.
The company L.L.Bean was founded in 1912 by its namesake, avid hunter and fisherman Leon Leonwood Bean in Freeport, Maine. The company began as a one-room operation selling a single product, the Maine Hunting Shoe (known currently as the L.L.Bean Boot). Bean had developed a waterproof boot, which is a combination of lightweight leather uppers and rubber bottoms, that he sold to hunters. He obtained a list of nonresident Maine hunting license holders, prepared a descriptive mail order circular, set up a shop in his brother's basement in Freeport, Maine, and started a nationwide mail order business. By 1912, he was selling the "Bean Boot", or Maine Hunting Shoe, through a four-page mail-order catalog, and the boot remains a staple of the company's outdoor image. Defects in the initial design led to 90% of the original production run being returned: Bean made good on his money-back guarantee, corrected the design, and continued selling them.
Bean (/ˈbiːn/) is a common name for large plant seeds of several genera of the family Fabaceae (alternately Leguminosae) which are used for human or animal food.
The term bean originally referred to the seed of the broad or fava bean, but was later expanded to include members of the New World genus Phaseolus, such as the common bean and the runner bean, and the related genus Vigna. The term is now applied generally to many other related plants such as Old World soybeans, peas, chickpeas (garbanzo beans), vetches, and lupins.
Bean is sometimes used as a synonym of pulse, an edible legume, though the term pulses is more correctly reserved for leguminous crops harvested for their dry grain. The term bean usually excludes crops used mainly for oil extraction (such as soy-beans and pea-nuts), as well as those used exclusively for sowing purposes (such as clover and alfalfa). Leguminous crops harvested green for food, such as snap peas, snow peas, and so on, are not considered beans, and are classified as vegetable crops. According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization the term bean should include only species of Phaseolus; however, a strict consensus definition has proven difficult because in the past, several species such as Vigna angularis (azuki bean), mungo (black gram), radiata (green gram), aconitifolia (moth bean)) were classified as Phaseolus and later reclassified. The use of the term bean to refer to species other than Phaseolus thus remains. In some countries, the term bean can mean a host of different species.

L.L. Bean Board Member and Co-Owner Linda Bean on calls for a boycott of the company because of her support for President-elect Donald Trump and the state of the U.S. economy.
L.L.Bean The name has become a household word, but the retail empire known to millions today all started with one simple idea: the Maine Hunting Shoe. And that idea sprang from the mind of none other than L.L. himself, Leon Leonwood Bean. Born into a solid Maine family of humble circumstances, L.L. and his little store in Freeport would come to symbolize Yankee ingenuity, integrity, and the Maine way of life. He believed in the beauty of the outdoors and in treating people fairly in business. "Sell good merchandise at a reasonable profit, treat customers like human beings, and they will always come back for more." That was L.L.'s Golden Rule. His journey -- from orphaned boyhood to his design of the famous hunting shoe and the development of his retail philosophy -- is the stuff American l...

My dog, friend and i went to check out a local potential camping spot. I also went up to test out some of my new gear i got. Great little hike, nothing too challenging, not too steep, not too far and it should be more interesting in the summer with full foliage. Feet stayed dry, my pants on my popliteal fossa (kneepit, back of the knee i had to google that..) area did get went, my pants stayed in close to constant contact with my warm probably sweaty leg. Other than that i stated dry and warm. I stepped in the river by accident completely submerging my foot above my ankles but my L.L. Bean boots kept me completely dry as well. It was great to see how well everything worked out.
