In it's time, Camp Floyd was one of the United States most strategically important military outposts. The Largest Military base in the country and the second largest city in Utah, Camp Floyd's legacy is now little more than a single commissary building. This documentary brings to light the story of Camp Floyd through the eyes of soldiers, immigrants, slaves and Mormons.

This documentary is a project developed in conjunction with the UVU History Department and the UVU Digital Media Department, giving history and film students an opportunity to gain hands on experience within a production environment.

Camp Floyd History Camps for kids are a fun-filled educational experience about how soldiers lived at Camp Floyd in 1861, and how the Utah War served pre-Civil War objectives. Campers will meet costumed interpreters, play 19th Century games, drill, march and set up a soldier's camp, fire an 1860's period firearm, make and take home soldier craft activities. Other activities include conducting a full-scale military exercise; and observing muskets and a cannon fired. Participants will receive a history camp tee shirt, kepi, replica rifle, canteen, haversack, yo-yo, and more. Campers will return home each day with furlough papers. The park may be able to provide carpooling information with others in your area. These programs are for both boys and girls, 8-11 years of age. Each camp is limited to 26 participants and will run from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. each day. Reservations and $95 camp fee are required. Registration will begin on March 3, 2014.

Johnston's Army Adventure Camp is designed for Boy Scouts age 11 and up and offers an authentic and unique hands-on adventure! Scouts travel back in time to 1858 - 1861 and enter the world of a soldier with Johnston's Army at Camp Floyd in the Utah Territory. New recruits are processed, mustered into the army and issued uniforms. As a new enlisted private, scouts will shoulder their musket, and march off to a new adventure! Leaving modern possessions behind, the call of bugles and officers' commands will replace the daily routine of 21st century life. The camp curriculum is based on the history of Johnston's Army at Camp Floyd, Utah Territory, and is designed to complete the requirements for the American Heritage Merit Badge and the National Historic Trails Award. The camp size is limited to 30 scouts and leaders. Camp fees are $25 per boy/adult, which includes all camp material, breakfast, and a Camp Floyd State Park patch. This two-day program includes a stay over night with sleeping accommodations in recreated military tents. Scouts will need to provide their own sleeping gear.

Camp Floyd's first Archeology Field Day is designed to allow visitors the opportunity to learn more about the archeological digs performed at Camp Floyd by Brigham Young University from 1982 to 1993. Most of the artifacts in Camp Floyd's collection were discovered in these excavations.
Participate in a mock archeological dig, etch your own petroglyph, view Camp Floyd artifacts which are usually in storage, make adobe bricks, participate in a scavenger hunt, and more! Archaeology day will be June 15, 2013, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All activities will be continuous during that time. A re-enactor will tell the story of Camp Floyd at 11 a.m. and 1p.m. These activities also fulfill requirements 8c and 9b of the Archeology Merit Badge for Boy Scouts. All activities outside the museums are free of charge. Standard museum entrance fees of $2 per person or $6 per family still apply. Food concession will be available to purchase at the event.
Established in 1858, Camp Floyd housed the largest concentration of U.S. troops then in the United State. The army was sent to Utah to suppress a rumored Mormon rebellion which never took place. The army was recalled back east in 1861 for the Civil War. Today, the park museum houses artifacts and exhibits from this historic event.
Camp Floyd State Park is located in the town of Fairfield, 22 miles southwest of Lehi on State Highway 73. For more information about the event or park, please contact the park at 801-768-8932.

The date is 1859 in one of the many saloons in Fairfield. Be your own detective at Camp Floyd's first Soldier's Games and Murder Mystery afternoon on February 1, 2014 at 1pm. Start by playing the same games played by soldiers in Fairfield like Faro, Chuck-a-luck, and three-card monte to win chocolate Double Eagle coins. After a fake murder occurs, become part of the history at Camp Floyd as you are given a character to portray with certain knowledge and objectives. Talk to others and try to uncover the mystery of who did it. The afternoon will end as the mystery is revealed.
This event is appropriate for all ages, but those over the age of 12 will enjoy the event most. Period attire is recommended, but not required. The cost is $10 per person.
Each participant receives:
A chance to be part of a mystery role playing experience
Double Eagle chocolate coins and the chance to win more playing the soldier's games
A bottle of "Valley Tan" Root Beer and snacks
A photo of yourself in period attire

Camp Floyd History Camps for kids are a fun-filled educational experience about how soldiers lived at Camp Floyd in 1861, and how the Utah War served pre-Civil War objectives. Campers will meet costumed interpreters, play 19th Century games, drill, march and set up a soldier's camp, fire an 1860's period firearm, make and take home soldier craft activities. Other activities include conducting a full-scale military exercise; and observing muskets and a cannon fired. Participants will receive a history camp tee shirt, kepi, replica rifle, canteen, haversack, yo-yo, and more. Campers will return home each day with furlough papers. The park may be able to provide carpooling information with others in your area. These programs are for both boys and girls, 8-11 years of age. Each camp is limited to 26 participants and will run from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. each day. Reservations and $95 camp fee are required. Registration will begin on March 3, 2014.

New recruits are processed, mustered into the army and issued uniforms. As a new enlisted private, scouts will shoulder their musket, and march off to a new adventure! Leaving modern possessions behind, the call of bugles and officers' commands will replace the daily routine of 21st century life. The camp curriculum is based on the history of Johnston's Army at Camp Floyd, Utah Territory, and is designed to complete the requirements for the American Heritage Merit Badge and the National Historic Trails Award. The camp size is limited to 30 scouts and leaders. Camp fees are $25 per boy/adult, which includes all camp material, breakfast, and a Camp Floyd State Park patch. This two-day program includes a stay over night with sleeping accommodations in recreated military tents. Scouts will need to provide their own sleeping gear.

Camp Floyd's first Archeology Field Day is designed to allow visitors the opportunity to learn more about the archeological digs performed at Camp Floyd by Brigham Young University from 1982 to 1993. Most of the artifacts in Camp Floyd's collection were discovered in these excavations.
Participate in a mock archeological dig, etch your own petroglyph, view Camp Floyd artifacts which are usually in storage, make adobe bricks, participate in a scavenger hunt, and more! Archaeology day will be June 15, 2013, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All activities will be continuous during that time. A re-enactor will tell the story of Camp Floyd at 11 a.m. and 1p.m. These activities also fulfill requirements 8c and 9b of the Archeology Merit Badge for Boy Scouts. All activities outside the museums are free of charge. Standard museum entrance fees of $2 per person or $6 per family still apply. Food concession will be available to purchase at the event.
Established in 1858, Camp Floyd housed the largest concentration of U.S. troops then in the United State. The army was sent to Utah to suppress a rumored Mormon rebellion which never took place. The army was recalled back east in 1861 for the Civil War. Today, the park museum houses artifacts and exhibits from this historic event.
Camp Floyd State Park is located in the town of Fairfield, 22 miles southwest of Lehi on State Highway 73. For more information about the event or park, please contact the park at 801-768-8932.
Archeology Day has received funding from the Utah Humanities Council (UHC). UHC offers funding to empower individuals and groups in Utah to improve their communities through active engagement in the humanities

Start by playing the same games played by soldiers in Fairfield like Faro, Chuck-a-luck, and three-card monte to win chocolate Double Eagle coins. After a fake murder occurs, become part of the history at Camp Floyd as you are given a character to portray with certain knowledge and objectives.
