http://www.theworldlovefoundation.org/Ghana_Tour_2012.html One of the best ways to cross the country of Ghana is on the Yapei Queen. The cargo ship is the main artery connecting remote villages that are otherwise isolated from the rest of Ghana on the shores of Lake Volta. It leaves on Monday afternoon and arrives late Tuesday evening in the town of Yeji. It was one of the most interesting parts of our trip watching the market women return home from the Akosombo market.
This clip is of when I was travelling from Tamale to Mole National Park in January 2007. The clip starts just east of the town of Yapei, on the White Volta River. The car crosses the bridge, and then travels to the town of Fufulsu, where the car exits the main road, and begins to drive along the very bad road to Damongo, Larabanga, and Mole National Park.

This footage was taken from the bridge over the White Volta river at Yapei, in the Northern Region of Ghana. I was returning from Mole National Park to Tamale, and I stopped briefly here to take a break from the travel, and film some scenes from the river.
I caught some good footage of the locals washing their clothing along the river bank, and towards the end of the clip, some youths approach me with a football.

Shalom Children's Home and Development Center
Stichting SCHODEC is een organisatie die in het belang van de ontwikkeling van kinderen een weeshuis onderhoudt. Dit weeshuis bevindt zich in Yapei (in het centraal Gonja district) in Ghana, Afrika. Omdat er in het dorp en in de omgeving veel kinderen zijn die niet eens een thuis hebben, zijn wij in 2008 een weeshuis begonnen met de lokale bevolking en een klein start kapitaal uit Nederland. Er zijn een aantal initiatieven gestart, ofwel projecten, die er voor moeten gaan zorgen dat het weeshuis zichzelf, in de toekomst, financieel kan gaan bedruipen en minder afhankelijk wordt van sponsoring.

SCHODEC Foundation is an organization that maintains an orphanage, in the interest of the development of children. This orphanage is located in Yapei (in the Central Gonja district) in Ghana, Africa. In 2008 we started an orphanage with the local population and a small starting capital from the Netherlands, because in the village and in the vicinity there where many children who do not even had a home. To ensure that the orphanage itself, in the future, can go financially self-sustaining and will be less dependent on sponsorship, there have been started a number of initiatives or projects.

In Yapei, Ghana zijn er verschillende meestal vrouwelijke kleermakers waar vrouwen in de leer gaan om ook naaister of kleermaker te worden. SCHODEC Nederland heeft deze vrouwen benaderd om telefoonhoesjes te maken van originele Ghanese stoffen om deze vervolgens in Nederland te kunnen gaan verkopen. De stoffen worden daar gekocht. De vrouwen worden daar betaald voor het maken van deze hoesjes Van de opbrengsten van de hoesjes worden een deel van de kosten van het weeshuis van SCHODEC betaald.

Yapei or Bupei is a town in the Central Gonja District of the Northern Region of Ghana. The White Volta passes through the town; making it an important terminus point. There are few rapids on the eastern end of the river towards Akosombo. As a result navigation is possible; the Yapei Queen which is a cargo ship sails from Akosombo with petrol and other food stuffs up to the Yapei port.
The presence of limestone has attracted cement companies; SAVACEM, to set up cement production plants in Yapei. The BOST (Bulk Oil Storage and Transport) company of Ghana has also built petrol reservoirs in Yapei where petrol and other products are transported via pipes from Juapong up to Bupei and then carted by lorries to Bolgatanga, Wa and neighbouring Burkina Faso.

This clip is of when I was travelling from Tamale to Mole National Park in January 2007. The clip starts just east of the town of Yapei, on the White Volta River. The car crosses the bridge, and then travels to the town of Fufulsu, where the car exits the main road, and begins to drive along the very bad road to Damongo, Larabanga, and Mole National Park. -

White Volta River (Tamale/Yapei) - Northern Region, Ghana
This footage was taken from the bridge over the White Volta river at Yapei, in the Northern Region of Ghana. I was returning from Mole National Park to Tamale, and I stopped briefly here to take a break from the travel, and film some scenes from the river. I caught some good footage of the locals washing their clothing along the river bank, and towards the end of the clip, some youths approach me with a football. -

In Yapei, Ghana zijn er verschillende meestal vrouwelijke kleermakers waar vrouwen in de leer gaan om ook naaister of kleermaker te worden. SCHODEC Nederland heeft deze vrouwen benaderd om telefoonhoesjes te maken van originele Ghanese stoffen om deze vervolgens in Nederland te kunnen gaan verkopen. De stoffen worden daar gekocht. The cargo ship is the main artery connecting remote villages that are otherwise isolated from the rest of Ghana on the shores of Lake Volta. It leaves on Monday afternoon and arrives late Tuesday evening in the town of Yeji. It was one of the most interesting parts of our trip watching the market women return home from the Akosombo market.

SCHODEC Nederland heeft deze vrouwen benaderd om telefoonhoesjes te maken van originele Ghanese stoffen om deze vervolgens in Nederland te kunnen gaan verkopen. De stoffen worden daar gekocht. De vrouwen worden daar betaald voor het maken van deze hoesjes Van de opbrengsten van de hoesjes worden een deel van de kosten van het weeshuis van SCHODEC betaald.

Omdat er in het dorp en in de omgeving veel kinderen zijn die niet eens een thuis hebben, zijn wij in 2008 een weeshuis begonnen met de lokale bevolking en een klein start kapitaal uit Nederland. Er zijn een aantal initiatieven gestart, ofwel projecten, die er voor moeten gaan zorgen dat het weeshuis zichzelf, in de toekomst, financieel kan gaan bedruipen en minder afhankelijk wordt van sponsoring.

The bodies of eight women, including a pregnant woman, who perished when a boat on which they were travelling capsized in the Oti River in the Krachi East District of the Volta Region last Monday evening, have been retrieved.
The women were part of 19 passengers travelling on board the boat named, Oti Transport, last Monday around 6:30pm when it capsized.
The eight women unfortunately got drowned.
The Volta Regional Public Relations Officer of Zoomlion, Francis Tawiah, who confirmed this to Daily Guide, noted that the passengers were returning from Wulembo to Dambai after going to harvest tubers of yam and rice that day from their farms.
When they were about reaching Dambai, the boat, filled with over 3000 tubers of yam and 15 sacks of rice, hit a tree stump in the river causing the boat to capsize.
A rescue team comprising the Ghana Navy and Zoil Lifeguards stationed at Dambai rushed in to save the situation, but the boat sunk faster.
Mr. Tawiah, who commiserated with the families of the victims, was incensed at the fact that the women and girls who were more vulnerable died a preventable death.
The men, however, survived the storm.
He stressed that "if they were in lifejackets, their lives would have been saved." Apparently, the Boat Owner, Yaw Anasenchor, had been given 45 life jackets by ZOIL on July 15 and 21, 2013, just a month ago.
However, not even one was found in the boat which was being operated by one Ayuba.
Some months ago, it came to the attention of Daily Guide that passengers on the Volta Lake across the region had developed a phobia for lifejackets meant to save them. As a result, they prefer to travel unprotected, at the peril of their lives.
The trend had become a headache for Navy operatives, lifeguards and other safety workers along the Volta Lake who feared it could one day lead to a major boat disaster.
Francis Tawiah, therefore, prayed that boat owners would give the life jackets to their operators who would also ensure its use.
ZOIL, as of July, had distributed about 4000 lifejackets across the region.

Two British teenagers accused of battering an alcoholic woman to death in 2014 have been sentenced to life in prison. The two girls, now 15, were convicted of murdering 39-year-old Angela Wrightson on April 5 after an eight-week crown court trail in Leeds, England, the Guardian reported.
